Hello again! The editing process is pretty slow at the moment, as I'm pretty busy.
"We should move on the the more pressing matters," said the Spy, preventing Scout from giving him a comeback.
"Namely?" returned the Engineer.
"Mademoiselle's lodgings,"
"Oh, yeah. About that..." I began to say.
"I have beds in the Medibay, and you could use them for the moment," suggested Medic.
Everyone thought it was a superb idea. It was time for lights out, so everyone decided to call it a day. They all returned to their own dorm rooms, with the exception of Medic.
"Now, young Frau Zelda, allow me to show you the Medibay," he said, beckoning me to follow him.
There were numerous facilities in this lodging house, it seemed. No wonder everyone was fine living here, it had almost every residential luxury a person could ever wish for. This is Teufort, the mystery town no one dares to approach. Now that I have learned the truth of this place, the rumours were pretty amusing.
A series of walking later, we faced a pair of blue doors usually seen in hospitals. Medic pushed it open, revealing a pristine infirmary room. Three beds were aligned on each side of the room. Drawn curtains were placed between the beds, presumably to isolate the beds in the event of an examination. There was a wooden desk in the end of said room, piled with a mountain of papers. It looked sturdy. A bookshelf sat adjacent to the desk, containing files and quite a number of books. Most of the books were in German, as expected, and they were probably related to medical science.
"Frau Zelda, you may select a bed to your liking,"
I chose the bed closest to the desk, so that I would get to use the desk whenever I need it while saving energy to walk there. "May I choose this bed, then?" I asked.
"Yes, you may," said the doctor. "Pardon my intrusion, but I would have to use the desk for a while,"
"Sure, I don't see any problems there," I nodded.
He took a seat on the chair, taking a piece of paper while I began to unpack.
"Then again, what do you need to do?" I asked as he began to make drafts on the paper.
"Oh, I am writing a report for the Administrator. She requires them every day to monitor our progress, I believe," explained Medic.
"I see. I won't disturb you, then," I said, picking up the book I was currently in the progress of reading.
"Do you enjoy reading, Frau Zelda?" he asked, without looking up.
"Yeah, I do. There are many interesting books out there, and we can explore each and every one of them, provided that we find the good ones. I'd be cooped up for days trying to finish the books,"
He chuckled. "Would you go as far as to skip meals?"
"If it's really good, then yes. I'd do it occasionally," I answered honestly. Then, I noticed that I'm telling a doctor that I don't eat properly. "Wait, don't yell at me about skipping meals, I'm sorry, okay?"
"That is good if you notice that you're talking a out skipping meals with a doctor. You also have to rest your eyes after long hours of reading, as it will ruin your eyesight, do you understand that?"
"Yes, mother," I grinned.
"You may read some of the books in the shelf, if you like. It's mostly in German, but there are some English books too. I believe I have some novels in there," Medic offered.
"Thanks," I nodded. "I can understand German too, you know," Just then, a white bird with red stuff splattered all over it flew in. It seemed to be familiar with its surroundings, and landed on Medic's desk.
"Ah, Guten Abend, Archimedes. How was your day?" Medic took a bowl from one of the drawers in the desk, filled it with birdseed and water before putting it in front of the bird.
It was probably a dove or a pigeon, and the red stuff so abundantly present on its feathers... it's not blood, isn't it? I don't want to dwell on such things.
"Frau Zelda, meet Archimedes, my pet dove," introduced Medic. "He likes to explore the insides of my patients' bodies during operations, hence the blood splatters,"
'Remind me to never be so injured I need to go through surgery here,' I told myself silently.
The bird pecked at the food, cooing with content. I didn't want to interrupt Medic while he has to finish up his report, so I resumed my book reading. I wondered what would happen tomorrow. What kind of mission would we get? Is it dangerous? Besides, the entire Respawn system sounded fishy to me. What if I'd actually died?
As as though he read my mind, Medic smiled. "Don't worry, Frau Zelda, the Respawn system may seem scary, but I assure you, it's completely safe,"
I felt a little assured. Despite the fact that I'd only met him for a couple of hours, Medic was capable of making me feel safe. I guess doctors are supposed to be a reassuring presence for their patients.
"What kind of mission are we doing tomorrow?" I needed a briefing.
"Oh, if you run fast, you should join Herr Scout to acquire the intelligence briefcase. But be careful, the enemy is going to shoot you, but the Respawn system will revive you if you die," explained Medic. "Don't worry about killing the enemies, too. They will be respawned too. The amount of people you kill will also be recorded."
"Well, I guess I should sleep now. Good night, Medic. And to you too, Archimedes," I yawned. This is a pretty scary revelation. I don't know if I can actually do this.
Archimedes cooed. "Gute Nacht, Frau Zelda," said the Medic.
I guess I shall remove the accent for Medic, since some people have a hard time trying to read that.
