Enjoy :D

Chapter 16 " Detention"

Peeta's POV

Finnick and I are the first to arrive to detention. Finnick complains to me about how unfair it is that Cato didn't get detention too. Mr. Abernathy just had to walk in at the wrong time and I got in trouble too. All I was doing was getting Cato off of Finnick and it just so happened to look like I was holding him for Finnick to punch. That explains my reason for being here. Finnick on the other hand, I'm not sure about.

Cato ditched last period and Cinna's substitute had Finnick take the attendance to the office. Finnick was taking way too long so I went to go find him. Long story short, they fought and Finnick and I got blamed for everything and Finnick won't tell me anything.

Gloss and Cashmere come in together silently. They sit near each other and don't take a second look at us.

"Cato should be in here," Finnick mumbles bitterly. "So unfair."

"Hey, I'm here and I did nothing. You don't hear me complaining."

"You shouldn't have gotten involved in the first place," Finnick snaps at me.

"Well it seemed like you could use some help since Cato was clearly kicking your ass," I throw back at him. I know he's upset, but I don't need his attitude.

I hear Cashmere and Gloss snicker behind me. Finnick rolls his eyes at the sound.

"Say, Peeta," Cashmere says sweetly, and I turn to her. "What exactly happened?"

I'm about to answer, but Finnick beats me to it.

"None of your fucking business. So shut up."

My eyes widen at how cold Finnick was. I understand that he's upset, but Cashmere asked politely. There was no need to snap at her like that.

Now Cashmere is offended and by the look on Gloss' face he's pissed.

"Okay," Cashmere says bitterly. "First of all—"

"She asked Peeta, not you." Gloss says for her.

"Second of all—"

"We're cool with Cato. So we're going to know what happened anyway, at least his version of it. And also my sweet sister asked you fucking nicely."

Oh shit. He's mad.

"There was no need for that tone. So why don't you answer her question before I kick your ass."

Finnick rolls his eyes, but doesn't respond.

Thank fucking God.

"I found them fighting in the hall," I tell Cashmere like I was going to in the first place. "I tried to get Cato off of Finnick, 'cause honestly Cato was winning, and ended up here."

"Well that sucks. You shouldn't be here." Cashmere actually sounds sorry for me. "Do you know what they were fighting about?"

I don't know, but if I had to take a guess… "Probably about Clove."

"That would make sense," Gloss says. "Cato does get bitchy when Clove talks about Odair. She doesn't talk about him often, but when she does, stay away from Cato."

"He's the jealous type," Cashmere says. "Which is understandable because he is dating Clove. The girl is hot. Isn't she, Finnick?"

"I hadn't noticed."

"Sure you haven't."

After a moment the door creaks open and we all turn to see Annie and Johanna walking in.

I complete forgot that they have detention too. The six of us are going to be stuck in this room for about four hours. Johanna, who hates Cashmere with a passion, Cashmere who hates everyone but Gloss and maybe me, Annie, who doesn't like Cashmere and may or may not be speaking to Gloss, Gloss who hates Finnick, Finnick who hates Gloss, and then there's me. Won't this be fun?

"What the hell are you guys doing there?" Johanna asks, shocked to see us. "I know what the blonde demon is doing here, and I could careless about her other half, but what about you two?"

Annie and Johanna take a seat by Finn and I.

"It's stupid," Finnick mumbles. "Not important."

It was just some stupid fight and he is avoiding telling her. Maybe the fight was about Clove. Why else would Finnick not want to tell Annie about it?

"Just tell her," Gloss shouts. "Grow a pair and just do it."

Annie glares at Gloss before standing and walking over to him.

"Since you can't shut up for two seconds why don't you tell me what you're doing here?" Annie's voice has an angry tone that I've never heard from her. "Did you get caught stealing the homeroom key? Or did you do something even lamer to get in here?"

"Well that depends," Gloss stand up and moves closer to Annie. He runs his hand through some strands of her hair. "Do you like bad boys?"

"Oh, hell no," Finnick mumbles beside me. He rushes over and pushes Gloss away from Annie.

"Don't you fucking touching her," Finnick shouts. "Don't even look at her."

"Funny, I didn't hear Annie complaining," Gloss shouts right back at Finnick. "How about you stop being a controlling boyfriend and let her see who she wants? Afraid of some competition?"

"Hardly."

"Gloss, just shut the fuck up," Johanna gets up from her seat as well. "Annie obviously isn't interested. Which makes sense because what girl would want you?"

"Hey!" Cashmere shouts and stands. "Why don't you shut up, Johanna. You don't know a thing about my brother so fuck off."

"I was I talking to your ugly ass? I don't think so."

Cashmere smirks. "Funny, Gale told me I had a pretty hot ass, but whatever."

Johanna and Cashmere are about to jump on each other, but Gloss and Finnick stop them. Gloss is holding his sister back and Finnick is holding Johanna back. Annie and I stand by watching, unsure of what to do really.

Suddenly the door slams open and we all freeze.

Mr. Abernathy is at the door and groans.

"You six can't stay out of trouble for five minutes? Good God, what happened to the youth?"

No one says anything. We simply all move slowly away from each other.

"Obviously you six being stuck together is nothing but trouble, so you," Mr. Abernathy points at Johanna. "You," He points at Finnick. "And you," He points at Cashmere. "Follow me to the room next door. The rest of you shut up and take a seat."

Finnick, Cashmere and Johanna wordlessly follow Mr. Abernathy out the door.

Annie, Gloss, and I stand awkwardly for a moment before finding a seat. Gloss sits alone and Annie sits next to me.

"So spill," she whispers to me. "What are you and Finnick doing here?"

"Why are you whispering?"

"I don't know."

Mr. Abernathy comes back and takes a seat at the desk up front. He stares coldly at Annie and I. We get the message. I get up and move to another table. Mr. Abernathy's eyes go back to his phone, completely ignoring us.

I look over at Gloss who is writing in his notebook. He has paper and all I brought with me is a pencil. I could go for some paper right now.

"Gloss," I whisper.

He doesn't even move.

"Gloss."

Nothing.

I take my pencil and throw it at him. That gets his attention.

What, he mouths to me.

Paper, I mouth back.

Gloss rolls his eyes. He then rips out a sheet of paper, balls it up, and throws it at me.

I flatten it out and start to sketch.

I don't like to sketch or paint randomly. I like things fresh in my mind or something right in front of me. Drawing something new is also something I prefer. Thus I draw Gloss. I've drawn Annie, Johanna, Finnick, and Gale so many times I can go by memory. Gloss is different. He's new to me. I have to look at him from time and time as I sketch. It's difficult since he isn't staying still. He steals a few glances towards Annie. Annie's too busy looking through her yellow book to notice.

The yellow book that has that note from Gloss in it.

A note that I kind of read while Annie was trying to stop Johanna and Cashmere from fighting. That was a really nice thing Gloss did for Annie.

I feel bad for him. I know Finnick isn't the one who is making Annie stay away from Gloss; that's her own doing, but if I were in his shoes, I'd hate Finnick just as much.

"Brats," Haymitch says suddenly. "I'll be sitting in the hallway now so I can keep an eye on both rooms. Don't for a second think I'm not watching you."

The second Haymitch leaves the room I jump out of my seat and go over to Annie.

I take her hand and take the yellow book in the other hand and pull her over to Gloss' table. I make her take a seat across from Gloss and I take the seat right next to her.

They stare at each other blankly as I set the yellow book on the table.

"Now," I start off. "I refuse to stay in this room for the next few hours with you two at each other's throats. So you are going to talk it out."

Now they're staring at me blankly.

I look at Annie and raise an eyebrow.

"What? I did nothing wrong."

"Yes because Annie is a perfect little angel," Gloss says mockingly.

"I was before you came along," Annie snaps.

"Keep telling yourself that, Annie. I didn't make you do anything you didn't want to unlike Finnick."

"So we're going to have this conversation again? Finnick has nothing to do with—"

"He has everything to do with it."

"Well can you blame him? You're all over me."

"I am not."

Annie looks at me to back her up on this.

"Well," I say. "She has a point, Gloss."

"Okay so maybe I have been flirting for the pass few days," he admits. "But not because I'm trying to steal you away. I'm just doing it to get Finnick jealous."

"That doesn't make it any better."

"Annie," Gloss' voice goes smooth. "I'm sorry, okay? But honestly you're just a great friend I didn't want to lose."

"Are you done?"

Gloss nods.

"I don't mean with talking," Annie says. "I mean are you done with this Finnick crap?"

"Yes."

Annie stares at him for a moment before going on. She smiles. "That's all I wanted to hear."

Johanna's POV

"Oh my God," I shout. "I'm so effing bored here. I just want to go home. I can't take the silence anymore."

"It has literally only been fifteen minutes," Finnick says dryly, looking in his small mirror.

"Shut up," I snap at him.

He just rolls his eyes.

"Finnick," Cashmere says. "Of those fifteen minutes you've been staring at your reflection for ten of them."

"Can't help it if I'm beautiful."

"God, could you be more self centered? Looks like you're going to make out with that mirror."

I snort.

"You're both just jealous," Finnick does a gesture as if he's flipping his non-existent long hair.

"Yeah you're right," Cashmere says with a smirk. "I am so jealous of Annie. She's in the other room and I'm stuck here with you."

I can't help but laugh my ass off.

"That was a good one, princess," I tell Cashmere. "Wish I'd thought of that."

"Oh why don't you just marry her," Finnick says dryly.

"I wouldn't mind." Cashmere gapes at me. I just shrug. "She's hot. I'm not gonna lie."

"You're not so bad yourself, Mason." Cashmere smiles at me.

Suddenly the door bursts open. Gloss, Annie and Peeta walking right in, laughing and smiling together.

"What they hell are you guys doing in here?" I ask.

"Just like you, Johanna," Annie says skipping her way towards Finnick's side. "We're bored as fuck so Gloss had an idea."

"If it's Gloss' idea I want nothing to do with it," Finnick mutters.

"Then you can stay here alone while the rest of us have fun," Annie says like she doesn't give a fuck. I've never heard her sound like that before.

"What about Mr. Drunky?" I ask. "Isn't he supposed to be sitting in the hall?"

"I've been in detention a couple of times before so I know for a fact he won't be checking up on us for another hour. He was just trying to scare us," Gloss says.

"So what's the plan then?" Cashmere asks standing up.

Gloss smirks. "Follow me."

We all follow Gloss out the door and leave our stuff behind. Finnick hesitates about going, but Annie convinces him.

"Now all of you need to be quiet," Gloss whispers. "Unless you want to get caught I suggest no one talks."

We all nod.

Gloss takes us to the third floor. It's a complete ghost town up here. There isn't one teacher we had to sneak by like we did on the first floor. Where's the fun in that?

"Here we are," Gloss mumbles as we stop in front of a closed door.

"The teacher's longue?" Annie gasps. "Wouldn't we get in trouble?"

"That's kind of the point," I whisper to Annie.

"This is stupid," Finnick says. "It's locked, therefore we can't get in."

Gloss smirks and reaches into his pocket. "Who said I didn't have the key?"

Gloss takes out a gold key and opens the door.

"How did you get a key to the teacher's longue?" I ask, curious.

"I have my ways, Mason."

I'm the last to step into the room. It's about the size of a regular classroom, but looks nothing like one. Carpet floor, fridge in the corner, vending machine in the other corner, a desk, a couch, a television on the wall, a couple of small tables (probably for lunch), and a pool table.

Finnick and Peeta go by the pool table, Gloss goes to the fridge, Cashmere is at the desk, and Annie hops on the couch and turns the TV on. I go join Annie on the couch.

"What happened to 'Gloss is an asshole, I never want to talk to him again'?" I ask her.

When I left the other room, she hated him, and now here we are and she's perfectly fine with Gloss again.

Annie smiles. "Like you said, Johanna, maybe I don't need him around, but I do want him around."

"What about Finnick?"

"Finnick will always be first, but if he can't at least be civil with Gloss I don't need him in my life, and the same goes with Gloss."

I'm glad Annie isn't going to put up with either of their shit. She doesn't need that. Annie's a great girl and could have another guy within seconds if she wanted one.

"What about you and Cashmere?" Annie asks me.

"What about me and Cashmere?" I ask, 'cause what the hell?

"It's been ten minutes and you two haven't screamed at each other once."

I laugh. "Annie, I have some self control."

Then Gloss comes and joins Annie and I on the couch. He opens his can of soda and starts drinking.

"What's on?" He asks.

"Nothing much," Annie says flipping through the channels. "There are so many sport channels."

"Put one on. I wanna watch some football."

"No," Annie says.

"Well that's not fair."

"I got the control first, so yeah, it is."

"I don't wanna watch some makeup channel or drama shows."

"Just because we're girls doesn't mean we watch that," I tell Gloss.

"Alright, you know what, let's make this interesting." Annie smiles. "If you can beat me at pool, I'll let you watch whatever you want."

"You sure? I'm pretty good at pool," Gloss says.

"You don't know that I'm not," Annie says. "So is that a yes or no?"

Gloss wordlessly gets up and Annie follows him to the pool table. I shake my head: idiots.

I move my feet on top of the couch and change the channel to a basketball game. I'm not even a minute into the game when Annie comes to bother me. Turns out her and Gloss' game turned into a team thing. Gloss, Finnick, and Peeta against her and Cashmere, but they need one more person. Great.

This is going to be one of those things I regret.

I got join them and make it perfectly clear I have no idea what I'm doing.

"That's alright, Mason," Cashmere says. "We got these guys."

"Talk is cheap," Finnick says. "If you're so confident why don't we make this interesting?"

"What do you have in mind, Odair?"

"Losers have to sneak into Mr. Snow's office and steal something from his office," Gloss says with smirk.

"I don't know guys," Annie says.

"This seems like a bad move," Peeta mumbles.

Cashmere and I look at each briefly before accepting.

Cashmere is up first. She sinks three balls and smiles at the guys whose jaws have dropped.

"Your turn, brother."

Gloss sinks two. That's the most any of the guys sink at the same time. Annie and I both get only get one or sometimes we get nothing, but Cashmere makes up for that. She manages to sink two balls every time. Pretty soon all our balls are gone and the boys still have four left.

"Have fun in Mr. Snow's office," Cashmere says, high fiving Annie and me.

"Don't get caught," I add.

"I don't understand," Gloss says. "I beat Cash at pool all the time at home."

"Please! I let you win. Truth be told I could make a fortune gambling at this."

"Stop stalling," I say. "Steal something nice for us, boys."

Annie giggles beside me.

The boys leave and we're laughing as they do.

"Cashmere," I say. "I have to say that was pretty awesome of you."

Cashmere smiles.

"Johanna," Annie says hopefully. "I need a favor."

I raise an eyebrow and wait for her to go on.

"The thing is," Cashmere speaks for Annie. "Ann here has asked Peeta and I to help her cook for her dinner with Finnick—"

"And knowing Finnick he's going to want to help so I need him occupied," Annie finishes.

"Stall Finnick, Friday. Got it."

"Him and Gloss," Annie whispers.

"What?!"

"Knowing my brother he'll wanna help and Finnick will be upset if he finds out Gloss helped and he didn't—"

"Please, Johanna," Annie begs. "Please? Please? Please? Please? Ple—

"Alright!" I interrupt. "I'll do it."

This won't be easy. Gloss and Finnick aren't friends so it's my job to keep the peace. I have no problem with that. Gloss seems like a cool guy. I don't really have any problems with him.

The door suddenly bursts open. I panic thinking it's a teacher, but then the guys rush in and slam the door behind them. All of them hiding something behind there back.

"That was quick," I say. "What you get us?"

Gloss steps up. "For my lovely sister I got his name plate."

Gloss hands Cashmere Mr. Snow's golden name plate.

"How sweet!" she exclaims and kisses her brother on the cheek. "Do you think it's real gold?"

"For Johanna," Peeta says coming towards me. "I stole his cellphone number."

Peeta hands me a piece of paper with numbers on it.

"Thanks?"

Peeta rolls his eyes. "So now you can prank call him."

Oh, okay. I smile. This is awesome.

"And for my Annie," Finnick says pulling a white rose from his back. "A rose from his vase."

Annie takes it happily and tucks it into her hair.

"But seriously," Gloss says. "You girls got lucky."

"Is that so?" Cashmere asked in her brother in a mocking tone. "And what would have happened if we lost?"

Gloss shrugs.

"I would have made you girls dance for us," Finnick says jokingly. "Although I'd probably only be looking at Annie."

Annie snorts. "In your dreams, Finnick."

Suddenly Cashmere gets this wicked smile across her face. She struts over to the desk and turns the radio on, gets on the desk, and starts dancing. She's actually a really hot dancer. She takes her sweater and throws on the floor. Gloss is covering his eyes and is mumbling something about not wanting to be traumatized for life. Peeta and Finnick are howling like guys at a strip club and Annie and I are laughing our ass off.

"Cashmere, I swear in another life you would be a stripper," I shout.

Cashmere laughs and nearly falls off the table, but Peeta catches her legs before she does.

"A clumsy one," Finnick says.

"Like you can do any better," Cashmere says.

"I could do much better."

"Talk is cheap my love," Annie says. "Get up there and show her how it's done."

Annie and I howl as Finnick takes of his sweater and gets on the table with Cashmere. It's not some much stripping anymore; it's more of dirty dancing now. Cashmere and Finnick are dancing all up on each other and laughing all the meanwhile. Besides the laughing, it's pretty hot to be honest.

Annie takes Peeta's hand and starts dancing with him. I take Gloss' hands off of his face and make him dance with me.

"Okay, you brats can go home now or wherever. I don't care. just don't stay here," the drunk teacher says.

He's so drunk he didn't know that we ran past him on the stairs to get here.

"Isn't he the charmer?" Cashmere mumbles beside me.

I smile.

We all meet up in the hall and start laughing together. I didn't expect to have this much fun in detention, especially with Cashmere and Gloss.

"You guys heading home?" Gloss asks.

"We usually go out together on Fridays, actually," Peeta says.

"Tonight we're going over Finns," Annie says.

"Want to come?" Finnick asks both Cashmere and Gloss. He asked Gloss. The guy he couldn't stand yesterday. That guy!

"I'm down," Gloss says.

"I actually have a ton of homework to get done," Cashmere says. "So maybe next time."

"I actually have to get going to," I say. "Blight and Cecelia want to discuss my 'bad behavior'."

"Johanna, walk with me." Surprisingly I actually listen to Cashmere and walk with her.

We head out of the school talking about our crazy few hours. I tell Cashmere she should pursue a career in stripping and she laughs. She tells me about her dream to work in fashion.

"You want to be a model?" I ask, not even slightly surprised.

Cashmere smiles. "Nice of you to think I'm model material, but no. I wanna be a writer."

"A writer?" Now I'm surprised.

She nods her head. "I'm not a dumb blonde like everyone thinks I am."

"I can see that, Cashmere."

"Call me Cash."

Cash? "Okay."

Cash smiles.

"About that Gale comment earlier, I'm sorry—"

"Stop," I cut her off. "Water under the bridge."

"There's something you should know—"

"Water under the bridge. Whatever it is, it doesn't matter."

Cash smiles, but I can tell something is bothering her.

"Water under the bridge," she repeats. "Water under the bridge."

If you read chapter 21 of trip to the capitol you probably know what Cashmere was going to tell Johanna *HINT HINT WINK WINK*

More on that next chapter! Fair warning I'm going to speed up the timeline a bit next chapter. I'm think Gale's POV. An outsiders view of how the victors' relationships have changed is good I think. How well Gloss and Cashmere fit in with them and what is going on with the careers as well.

PLEASE review :) and thanks to everyone who has been reviewing TC! Chapter soon I swear!
