Standing outside by his rental car Paul leant against the side of it whilst he waited for Stephanie. All of the luggage was in the car and he was just waiting on her but as he looked at his watch and saw it had been nearly ten minutes, any second now she would appear at the door or he would just leave her here.
About to give up on her he saw the door open and watched Dwayne walk out, shaking his head he turned around and opened the driver's door and climbed inside.
Watching Paul as he opened the driver's door Dwayne quickly jogged over to him grabbing the door before he was able to close it, "Paul can I have a second?"
Turning his head to look at his co-worker he frowned, "depends what you want."
Leaning on the top of the car he looked down at him able to feel the anger radiating off of him, "cut Steph some slack please."
Rolling his eyes Paul looked up at him, "you're seriously going to tell me how to behave with her? Why does she get some slack and I don't?"
"Because she has lost not only her boyfriend but her Father, she feels like she has been betrayed by the person that meant the most to her. Before you ask how I know I'm not stupid, I put two and two together and got it in one. Try to be easier on her, this is hard for her too."
Exasperated by Stephanie being the victim he shook his head, "so because she has been betrayed by her Dad it gives her free reign to take all of her frustrations and anger out on me? Great."
Shaking his head this was a mess, "she is taking it out on you because she can, she knows you love her and won't turn your back on her if she gets a little angry with you. Give her a chance to explain and or apologise if she feels it is necessary." Just then he heard the door open and Dwayne turned his head to see Stephanie hobbling out, "okay I've got to go before she kills me or something, remember what I said."
Getting out of the car as Dwayne walked away he nodded his head, "will do, thanks man."
Leaning on the side of the car he watched her walk over to him, "would you like a lift to the hotel?"
Nodding her head she looked at him hopefully, "if you don't mind please."
Shrugging his shoulders he couldn't really say no to her as her luggage was in his car, "sure. Jump in and I'll take you back to the hotel."
Being a gentleman he opened the passenger door for her and watched her climb in before he shut the door after her and jumped into the driver's side.
Waiting until they were well on their way back to the hotel before she spoke at least if he kicked her out she wouldn't have far to go to get back to the hotel, "can you come back to my hotel room so we can talk please?"
Shrugging his shoulders as they reached some traffic lights that were against them he looked at her a little, "are we talking like adults or is this code for something else?"
She did deserve that reaction so she couldn't say anything about it, "talking like adults, I promise."
Watching as the lights turned to green he turned his attention to the traffic in front of him, "as long as nobody is around to see me entering your hotel room then I'll come in, if there's people around then I won't."
Not sure if she should even do this she reached her hand across and placed it on top of his as he held the gear stick, "I don't mind if you wait until the early hours to come by, I just really want to talk to you and to sort this out."
Unsure on whether this was some sort of trick to be used as another excuse to shout at him and tell him off or whether she genuinely just wanted to talk to him he didn't move his hand from beneath hers and decided to just give her the benefit of the doubt, "sure, I'll come over at some point."
The rest of the drive back to the hotel was done mostly in silence. Pulling up in the parking lot he pulled his keys from the ignition and climbed out to get the luggage from the trunk.
Once he had the the luggage he walked to the passenger door to see Stephanie just sat there on the seat with her legs to the outside of the car flexing her injured leg, "you shouldn't do that, you were told to rest it."
Frowning she looked up at him, "but it's uncomfortable, if I move it then it'll make it feel better."
Shaking his head he reached his hand out to help her out of the car, "it won't make it feel better, you need to just relax and rest it like you were told to."
Taking his hand she got up using the seat as extra leverage until she was standing up, "I don't do well doing as I'm told, look at us."
Laughing he locked the car up and picked all of the luggage up again, "I'm not saying a word right now because I'll only get in trouble as anybody can hear us."
Smiling at him it felt good having him being polite, nice and friendly with her again, she thought she would have to work a lot harder than that for him to be this nice to her tonight, "I should have taken that advice earlier."
Offering his elbow to her he was going to try and be a gentleman even if people were around and could see what happened and it could be all around the locker room tomorrow and people talking about them, "I'm going to plead the fifth on that one because I want us to be back on the same page again or maybe just reading the same chapter of the same book."
Taking his elbow she used him for support as she hobbled though the car park and through reception ignoring the lower card wrestlers that shot a look their way. Reaching the elevator watching as it opened she was desperate to crawl into bed tonight and forget the entire day happened but hopefully when they reached her room she would be able to crawl into bed and right into his arms.
Watching as she leant against the wall of the elevator he noticed how her eyes glazed over and she didn't even seem with him any longer. He had to nudge her when the elevator stopped on her floor, "this is you."
Shaking her head she smiled softly at him, "sorry, thank you."
Escorting her off the elevator and to her room he waited as she opened her hotel room door and he then walked her bags inside for her before he walked back to the door.
Unable to say anything as she watched him walk in and walk out she thought he was serious about talking to her but now she wasn't so sure.
Reaching the door he looked around to make sure that nobody was around and then he shut the door, "so you wanted to talk."
