6. I can't forget you

Elizabeth hated it. She was with Matt again and yet the only person in her head was Klaus. It killed her because she so desperately wanted to move on. She couldn't forget him and she didn't know what to do. She sighed as Matt was talking and he gave her a confused look. Being honest she hadn't even realised what she was doing and she just frowned at him "I'm sorry" she muttered gently.

She decided it was time to explain "There is someone on my mind… someone who I wish I could just forget but… I don't think I can". Matt raised his eyebrow and just looked at her for a while "Someone like a guy?" he asked her. Elizabeth couldn't tell if his tone was hurt or not, but by the look on his face he was actually surprisingly okay. Elizabeth just nodded, there was a lot she couldn't tell him.

"I've known him my entire life and he's just in my head." There was an annoyed tone to Elizabeth's voice and she was about to go on when Matt leaned over and kissed her. Elizabeth just sat there shocked while he kissed her for a moment, but then he went to pull back and Elizabeth realised what had just happened and she pulled his lips back to hers. They now were both leaning into the kiss eagerly.

It was at that moment that Klaus and Charlotte walked into the Grill.

Charlotte's jaw dropped when her eyes fell upon the blonde couple kissing, she glanced at Klaus and raised her eyebrow, recovering instantly from the sight. She noticed Klaus' fist curl up, she knew this must be hard for him to see. No matter what they had just been doing, Charlotte knew that Elizabeth was a major part of Klaus' life and to see her like that with someone other than Klaus, was surely going to mess with his head.

She watched him closely as he stared at the pair, her heart sunk when she saw just how upset he was by this. Charlotte was sure that if this were a cartoon there would be steam coming out of Nik's ears. This thought disheartened her, she was so sure that what they had shared just thirty minutes before coming here meant something more than it did every other time.

She was so sure that Klaus had all but forgotten Elizabeth at all and yet to see this reaction, it was really saddening. She simply sighed and rolled her eyes "Oh get a grip" she muttered before going straight to the bar. When times were tough she rarely showed Klaus the 'support' that a normal person would show their best friend, but Klaus and her were not normal, they were 1000 year old vampires who had a love for evil.

Well, Charlotte more so than Klaus. It must have been something to do with the fact that Charlotte had lost her magic when she turned into a vampire. No matter how much she wanted it back it wouldn't come, and in all honesty perhaps if she had known that it would leave her then she never would have wanted to become a vampire in the first place.

One week before Charlotte turned

Charlotte was sitting in her room, in her little hut with several small candles lit, reading her grimour. It was cold tonight and she wasn't sure her family were quite prepared for the winter, there were not many blankets throughout their small hut and only a few spots to sleep now that her and her brother were not outside most of the night, or sleeping in the trees as they loved to do in summer.

It was hard enough knowing that it was a full moon and that the wolves would once again be own the prowl, but knowing that her friends the Mikaelson's were now the towns biggest enemy continued to play on her mind. The wolves had never encouraged her family, the Granger's, to stay inside and stay away from the woods where they liked to turn. But now the witches were considered a friend to the wolves now that there was a common enemy in the new found fanged ones, or as they called themselves – vampires.

Charlotte had seen Niklaus' face when he smelt her blood and to be perfectly honest it terrified her more than it ought to. After all, Niklaus was still… him, he just looked a little differently. She knew that it was hard to keep an open mind about it all, especially when it was one of their own – Esther – who did the spell in the first place, and as Charlotte's parents were telling her, it was a crime against nature and Esther was sure to burn in the fiery pit of hell.

But Charlotte's parents had never liked Esther. Charlotte assumed it was because Esther didn't try and make a profit out of being what she was, she didn't sell her herbs to the townsfolk in hopes of making friends and getting an advantage over the town. Esther was a pure witch, with good intentions and Charlotte liked her.

Charlotte looked up as she heard a noise near the huts opening, it was far too late for any of the human townsfolk to be out. She got up slowly and walked to the entrance, opening it slowly and looking outside where she saw both of her parents running towards the hut. This was an odd sight for her to see considering her parents rarely felt the need to panic, let alone run in such a panic.

But then Charlotte saw the reason behind their panic, there were three black wolves chasing after them. Charlotte ran from the hut towards her parents, wanting to help in some way, but then her brother grabbed her from behind, pulling her back. Charlotte watched in panic, unable to do anything as she watched the scene unfold. Her mother was yelling something to her brother and then she tripped over and one of the wolves caught up to her, Charlotte's father then stopped to help her mother and he too was tackled by a wolf.

Charlotte let out a scream and struggled against her brother, fighting to get away, he simply pulled her inside of their small hut and they stayed like that until the morning.

Present time

Klaus followed Charlotte to the bar, he clearly was not in the mood to just 'get a grip' and a 'grip' he would not get. This was outrageous. Elizabeth was already here with some other man, someone who she couldn't possibly know as well as she knew Klaus, and she already had her tongue down his throat.

Klaus hissed a little under his breath. Something about this whole situation made him feel like he was a gawky little teenager in the middle of a love triangle, which made him feel very much out of control. And if Niklaus Mikaelson hated anything, it was being out of control. He slammed his fist down on the bar, making Charlotte jump a little and look at him. Well, when he said look, he really meant stare at him with a cold look of moderate anger.

A look that to Klaus, clearly said 'piss off'. Was nothing going right with the women in his life anymore? Forty minutes ago Charlotte was saying his name with all kind of volume and passion, and now she was thinking his name with anger and venom. Klaus clearly couldn't win. He stormed out of the Grill and began heading home. He needed to be doing something, and hunting wolf packs seemed like a brilliant idea.

Elizabeth pulled away from Matt again and sighed, just looking at him for a while. "This is wrong" she said gently and he just nodded a little, looking at her for a while. As she stared into his big blue eyes she thought yet again of Klaus, who's eyes were completely different. Matt leant back in his seat and just looked at her, he was silent for a long time and this unnerved Elizabeth a little bit, when she kissed a man he usually had a lot to say afterwards. Not that Elizabeth usually goes around kissing people. She sighed and stood up slowly "I had a lot of fun Matt, we should be friends… I think that would be nice" she said gently before just leaving the Grill, ignoring Matt calling her name. She liked Matt, she really did. And he was a good kisser too, but it would be unfair to simply use him as a rebound.

It was hard, she thought as she walked down the street going nowhere in particular. She wasn't focusing at all, which was a rather stupid decision especially when turning around a corner. The second she got around that corner she bumped into the one and only doppelgänger left alive, Elena Gilbert. Elizabeth's eyes widened a little, which for the Salvatore on each side of her hinted that Elizabeth may have been a threat, or may have seen Katherine before. Elizabeth couldn't help but stare, she knew it was rude and she knew she should stop but she just shook her head.

"How are you still here…? I thought Niklaus would have killed you" she asked gently, looking from Elena to the Salvatore's and then back to Elena again. One of the brothers, Stefan she presumed stepped in front of Elena a little. His eyebrow was raised and although his stance was protective, his face was sceptical and non-threatening. "Who are you?" he asked her, this was when his brother Damon stepped in "We saw her in the Grill the other day… Ric and me, she was listening to our conversation and once she heard what she needed she ran out…" he said, looking her up and down with a strange look on his face.

Elizabeth frowned a little "Okay that may have looked bad… " she muttered softly and just looked at them all. She hesitated before saying anything else, unsure of how the brothers would react, however Elizabeth was 980 years old, she was not afraid of a few 'baby' vampires. "I was the person who told Klaus Elena was at the Lake house." She said and then shrugged, "I apologize for that" she finished. The Salvatore's looked at her for a moment longer and then Elena spoke, and Elizabeth listened.

Four weeks later

Elizabeth was sitting on Elena's bed flipping through the pages of a magazine, which one she wasn't exactly sure. She hadn't seen Klaus since the apology. This bothered her a lot more than she cared to admit, and as she flipped through the pages of the models in their outfits she sighed to herself. "Elena" she called out to her, just as Elena was coming out of her bathroom. Her eyebrow was raised and she was dressed in her costume for the current dance. It was the 70's at Mystic Falls High School, and the dance was to be kicked off in style.

The life of Elena had been rather calm for the last 4 weeks, with no sign of Klaus – everyone just assumed that he was off making hybrids and dreams. Even Rebekah who according to Charlotte, was alone in Klaus' house, with nothing to do. Charlotte and Elizabeth had been moderately friendly too each other since they had both been seemingly abandoned by Klaus. While they were both used to this harsh treatment as such it had seemed like such a shock to Charlotte, being just kicked aside.

Elizabeth had to wonder why this was, she knew it was pathetic of her to crave Klaus' attention, but after all these years it was still him that was on her mind. It was still him that seemed to captivate her heart entirely. "In case of any… vampire emergency, I've decided that I shall come to the… party or dance or ball or whatever it is you are calling it" Elizabeth told Elena, still sitting on her bed.

Elena grinning with this news. It was strange, they had different opinions on so many things and yet they were so similar that the friendship that just seemed to blossom between them worked so well. Elizabeth smiled back at Elena and got up off the bed, heading towards the door where she bumped into Stefan, who smiled at her and stepped out of her way.

Elizabeth's involvement with the Salvatore's in the past month had been very strange, they both seemed rather willing and almost eager to accept her as one of them. While they'd both heard of her past and they knew her feelings about Klaus, they still seemed to think that she was trustworthy. And she was, Elizabeth thought to herself. She was most definitely trustworthy. Elizabeth left Elena's and went back to the house she was now staying at, getting dressed for the party.

There was silence in Klaus' mansion as Charlotte sat on the kitchen bench with her legs crossed, she frowned to herself and looked at the coffee in her hand. Almost two months ago she was doing the exact same thing, only it was after she'd spent the night with Klaus, and it was before her heart was filled with so much confusion. There was no doubt that Charlotte had brought this confusion on herself, that much was clear to her.

But it seemed so strange to her that Klaus has simply up and vanished, without giving her much of a chance to even find out where he was going. Rebekah, Elijah, Kol or Finn hadn't heard from him either and this worried her. It was rare that Klaus did something without involving anyone at all, so it either meant that something was wrong with him, or he didn't think anyone could be trusted with such an… important task.

She took a sip of her coffee and made a face, she had no idea why she still drank it when she doesn't even like it. It was at that moment that Rebekah walked in and leant over the bench that was opposite her. "What do you say we stir up some trouble?" she asked rather mischievously, causing Charlotte to grin devilishly.

Caroline was with Stefan, sitting in the Grill before the dance. It was strange, he was telling her about how Elena had been acting weird. She'd been going places and not telling him where. Just that she would be back. They were both very concerned about her and didn't know what to do.

Sooooo, I hope you guys like this chapter. This is only a short one but the next one will be far more action packed and exciting.

Please please review, because if you don't review I won't keep writing, and I really want to keep going. Just tell me what you think. I'd really like an idea for a boys name, he's going to be a new character I introduce in the next few chapters. He's going to be kind of like Charlotte, kind of. Except far more mysterious.
