Chapter 2: Are you sure you're okay?
Mabel set down journal 3 gently as she carfully backed away. Dipper's stare was sending chills down her back. It was so unerving, she didn't like it one bit. Dipper took a step forward as Mabel cringed and turned her head in fright.
"No please! Stay away!" She held her pose as a hand touched her shoulder softly. "What? What's wrong Mabel?" The young girl turned right around only to see her brother standing there with a worried expression. His eyes weren't purple...
Mabel blinked a couple times and rubbed her eyes. Was she just seeing things back there? Did her brother really...hiss? Finding her words, Mabel hesitantly answered Dipper. "Uhh...ya, i'm okay. It's...it's...you're eyes...they were..." Dipper took his hand off Mabel's shoulder and gave her a confused gaze.
"What about my eyes?" He asked as Mabel could only frown. "They were freakishly purple! And...And you...YOU HISSED!" Mabel slapped her hands on her mouth. Not even she could belive it...it seemed like her brother was back to normal. Was she just going crazy? Or...nahhh...
"woah, woah, woah slow down there. How much Smile Dip did you eat this time? C'mon where are you hiding that secret stash? You know it won't be secret anymore." Dipper said while crossing his arms. Guess the young mystery hunter wasn't buying it.
"No I didn't have any! I'm serious Dipper, you know I wouldn't lie!" Mabel pleaded trying to make her believe, but he wouldn't budge. "Mabel if youre trying to make me fall for one of your tricks, it's not working. Now if you excuse me, i'm going down stairs." With that Dipper truned and headed down the stairs.
"Dipper!" Mabel yelled as she slammed right into his sending both of them tumbling down the stairs.
*BOOM*
*BANG*
*THUD*
"Whatever that was, I'm not paying for the hospital bill!" Grunkle Stan yelled from the Gift shop after hearing all of the comotion. Mabel got off her brother who had a scowl of his face. "What the heck Mabel?! Were you trying to kill me, because that sure was a good start!" Dipper huffed rubbing his sore arm. It was probably sprained for all he knew.
"Well at least my eyes didn't turn purple! And I probably would remember hissing at my own twin!" Dipper facepalmed at Mabel's remark. "For the last time, my eyes never changed colour! Hissing...oh come on. This is probably just one of your wierd dreams." The mystery hunter retorted getting even more annoyed than he already was.
He then opened the door to the Gift shop while Mabel followed. "Admit it Dipper! I'm right, you just can't handle the truth!" She fought earning a couple glances from nearby customers. "No way Mabel, you're just-" Before the young boy could continue, a certain red head walked over to them.
"Hey guys, what's up?" Wendy asked the two bickering twins. Mabel opened her mouth but Dipper just slapped his hand over it before she could say anything about his 'purple eyes'. "Oh nothing! Nothing at all, heheh." Dipper laughed nervously making Wendy teasingly flip the lid of his hat up.
"Hey, if you're doing nothing, mind running the cash register for me?" Wendy laughed making Dipper automatically laugh back. "Hahaha, good one Wendy!" Mabel rolled her eyes at her try hard brother. He honestly needed to get over Wendy. She watched the two talk about their feelings on the day with the crazy shapeshifter. Wendy told Dipper that she was just too old for him. Why wasn't that enough to get Dipper to move on with another girl?
"Oh and hey Dipper." Wendy said as Dipper looked up. "Movie night, my place this time." She smiled and then went back to the cash register where she worked. "Okay! Later Wendy!" Dipper awkwardly called out and then he instantly grinned to himself. He probably still thought the thing between Wendy and him was going to work out somehow.
"Still got it." Dipper whispered to himself. "Still got it."
For the rest of the day, Mabel didn't take her eyes off her brother. She knew she wasn't seeing things when his eyes changed colours. She wanted to wait until it happened again so she could finally prove him wrong. "Um...Mabel?" Dipper caught her sister's stare and was feeling a bit wierded out.
"Can you stop staring at me? It's getting strange." Mabel quickly took her eyes off her brother. "What are you talking about? I'm not even looking at you!" She turned around and pretended to be interested in a bird outside. Dipper sighed and swept some more. The only thing that made him like working in the gift shop was Wendy. Even after the day they talked, he still couldn't get over her. As long as he doesn't tell Mabel, it could be his little secret again.
With Dipper focused on sweeping, she began to watch him once more. That snake bit looked unnatural. It was surprising that no one noticed that it didn't look normal. On top of it all, she couldn't quite shake off that image of Dipper earlier that day. The way he menacingly stared at her successfully made her creeped out. It was a pity that Dipper denied any of that. He acted like it never happened.
"Mabel what did I say about you staring at me?!" Dipper said in frustration. "Sorry but your snake bite looks really...off." With that Dipper stared down at his leg and gasped. "It looks worse than it did before!" He said shaken. "Ohhh man, oh man, oh man, oh man!" Dipper quickly sat down on the floor and examined the bit closer. "For some reason it doesn't hurt..." Mabel shrugged and poked it earning an 'ouch!' from her brother. "Unless you touch it!" Dipper groaned as he tried to sooth it.
"How could you forget about a huge bite of your leg?" Mabel asked her shaken brother. "I dunno, I just couldn't feel it anymore I guess." Hearing that, Mabel smirked at him. "So if you forgot about the bite, than you must have forgot about hissing and your eyes turning purple!" Dipper was in no mood for Mabel's little blame game. "Mabel! i don't forget about hissing and my eyes turning colours because it never happened!"
"Say that to the bite!" Mabel shot back crossing her arms. It was bad enough that her brother was injured, but now he doesn't believe her. "Kids! What's going on over here?!" While the twins were bickering, they didn't notice Grunkle Stan approaching them. Both Mabel and Dipper paused and looked up to their grunkle looking down at the two. They opened their mouths at the same time and began yelling and yapping at the same time.
"Shut your yaps and get into the living room...now!" Grunkle Stan was getting angry because the whole commotion was costing him customers...and more importantly, money. The twins shared glares between each other before stomping into the living room. Grunkle Stan followed them and shut the dooor behind him. "Okay, one at a time." Mabel took the chance and quickly raised her hand to speak. "Um, Mabel." Stan pointed to the girl in the sweater to explain first.
"Dipper got bitten by a snake. Then later his eyes turned purple and it really creeped me out! He even hissed at me and then ran into a corner still giving me a creepy look. I don't know why he was acting that way but i'm pretty sure it's the snake that has him ackin' so cray cray!" Mabel then spoke up again. "If you dont' believe me, look at this freak of nature!" The young girl then pointed at Dipper's leg that had the disgusting bite mark.
"If that's not enough proof, then I don't know what is." Mabel seemed so sure of herself. Grunkle Stan even looked grossed out at the bite. "Yeesh, remind me again not to say anything to your parents about this." Dipper rolled his eyes at what Grunkle Stan just said. Leave it to him to not want to deal with what their parents have to say about their well being.
"Sure I got bitten by a snake. But I don't recall you guys caring about it until now!" Dipper yelled which taken Mabel and Grunkle Stan aback. "You guys were just too busy with laughing at my voice to even bother looking at the bite. If Mabel didn't even bring it up, you probably would just go on with your life without a care Grunkle Stan!" The young boy continued to rant on. "I just feel like whatever I have to say doesn't matter to you guys." Dipper's hat covered his eyes and cascaded a shadow over most of his face.
Even without his facial emotions, the two could tell how Dipper was feeling. "Aw Dipper..." Mabel began to feel guilt once again. She knew sometimes she could find herself laughing at him, but she never knew it hurt him that much. Sure his voice cracked, but it was just a sign of growing up. Dipper couldn't control it...that made Mabel feel even worse.
"Just save it." Before Dipper could lose anymore pride than he already had, he ran straight up into the attic without another word. "Huh, well that escalated quickly." Grunkle Stan said as Mabel glared up at him. "What?"
Are you sure you're okay? Well seeing what just happened, Mabel knew for sure her brother was far from okay.
