The Strong and The Weak

Chapter 16 : Uselessー

It was even better than she expected and it seemed the larger space was meant to occupy two people. Her dorm was practically a replication of her apartment bedroom, only bigger with her original belongings in peculiar positions. She made note of repositioning them when she had the time.

Haruna opened her dresser and brought out a pair of white pajama shorts and a gray, cotton long sleeve. She kicked off her boots and removed her clothing at once, leaving them on the floor by her bed before changing.

She jumped into her neatly made bed and didn't bother to cover herself with the blankets.

The chill of the coming winter must've sneaked into the dormitory. She felt herself shiver lightly. She thought it was a nice feeling and found it lulling her to sleep. It was the end of her first day on the job. She wondered what responsibilities tomorrow would hold for her. The eighteen year old had to be the youngest in this force and she knew it was going to take more to feel like she fit in. Haruna felt their stares and glances from the back of her head. Even the seaweed haired man she worked beside her was fidgeting in his seat- clearly uncomfortable by her presence. Was it the way she looked? Did she smell?

Her thoughts wandered back to the events that led up to now again and again. Everything was still surreal to her. Maybe making it this far was all a dream. Meeting HOMRA. Meeting Munakata. Joining Scepter 4. She remembered meeting Fushimi. She's forgotten about his position here. She hasn't seen that fish for quite some time now, since she had moved here.

Haruna realized that she wasn't just immersing herself with mature people, she was delving into a new world. Scepter 4 is a special police force. In reality, they are clansmen who wield the blue aura, led by its King, Reisi Munakata. She reminisced about the intense conversation she had with Izumo, which included his display of the red aura. This was the world of Kings. Clansmen. Strains. Auras.

Her body sat up suddenly and looked around the room. Taking in the silence and the minuscule amount of moonlight filtering through her bedside window. She shut her eyes tightly, raised a hand to her throat and swallowed deeply.

Her poor brain began to over think itself.

"Taichou. How is that fun?" A dull voice sighed,"You're setting yourself up for misunderstandings."

Meanwhile, during this hour, Saruhiko stepped into his boss's office and slouched in attention at his desk. Munakata was assembling a puzzle at his desk with deep concentration. Without looking up he asked him,"Did you not see her yet?"

Saruhiko clicked his tongue,"I don't like her."

"Do you unabashedly pin women you like onto walls?"

So bothersome.

"I said I hate her." He clarified bitterly with dryness,"What I do to girls I hate is none of your concern."

"Why of course it is! You're my left hand man!" He chuckled before calling to him again,"Fushimi-kun."

He ignored superior's failed attempt at what was supposed to be a joke and snapped in reply,"What?"

"Speaking of which," Munakata hummed,"I have not planned on bestowing my aura to her yet. If she so requests it, however, I will initiate the ceremony on the spot."

Give him a break.

Saruhiko scoffed,"Ceremony is hardly the word for that."

His boss made it sound as if he was testing her loyalty. Not like he would care anyway. He would shrug it off and express his disappointment before sending her away.

After some contemplation, Munakata hummed again.

"Do you care about her, Fushimi-kun?"

"Hah?" He huffed, clearly tired of his captain's humorous tone of voice,"She's just another one of those unnecessary extras you tend to bring in."

"No." The captain disagreed in response,"No one is an extra here. Everyone here is needed."

"Captain." Saruhiko pointed out flatly,"She's useless."

She's only of use when there's paperwork around. As he watched her from afar, he's deducted that she couldn't even operate a simple piece of technology, seeing how she didn't know how to put in values into a damn computer.

"Like your other comrades you deemed as useless?" Munakata raised a brow in question,"Fushimi-kun, you need to be patient with your subordinates."

Comrades.

He wanted to laugh.

"So useless." He mumbled repeatedly under his breath before excusing himself from the room.

"I need my clansmen here." The higher up declared, inserting the last piece to his puzzle into the missing gap. He frowned down at his completed piece. So fragile. Crinkled, glowing eyes. Rose painted lips curved into a petite smile. Dark bangs swept to to the side, covering right brow. Haruna Aigasa's identification picture.

"As they need me and each other."

A/N:POLL ON PROFILE - Should the rating of this fanfiction be extended to M?
Like M. For mature. You know. For lemons. Ahaha-

It's true! The captain make puzzles of his clansmen's ID pictures. I remembered hearing about it in one of the drama tracks, bwahaha.
