Chapter 6: Dinner with the Rabbits
"Mom! I'm home from school! And I think I actually made friends this time! Even though they're a bunch of crazy weirdos!" Secret called out, as he walked around the house, "Mom? You home?"
He then left his things on the floor and headed for the kitchen to get a snack where he found his mother, waiting.
"Hello, son, how was your day?"
Suddenly, Secret just knew that he was in trouble but he had no idea why, so he decided to play along.
"Pretty good, I guess, I mean, sure, I passed out twice and got dragged around town by a freakin' super powered girl and her oddball friends but, it was okay and they seemed friendly towards me, I think."
"What do you mean by passing out?" she asked, rather harshly, "Surely, I would have been called. If you lying to me-"
"But, I'm not, just ask Bunny."
"Bunny?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.
Secret then explained, "Just that super powered girl I just mentioned."
"Earlier, I saw you ditching school with a group of students, and went to the skate park. I remember a blue furred punk kid with you."
"That was just Huck Hound," Secret explained, "He's no punk." though he added in his head, "He sure looks like one." then continued, "The ditching was all part of some weird initiation, I was dragged into it by Bunny but everyone else wanted it."
His mother thought for moment and said, "Okay, well, you're still grounded for giving into peer pressure," smiling, shrugging, "Sorry, ******** Melvin Squirrel," almost laughed when she saw her son's reaction to being addressed by his full name, "But it's still nice that you finally made friends."
"Mom! It's Secret Squirrel now!"
"Secret Squirrel?" she asked, confused, "Is that the best you can come up with?"
"I was on the spot!"
"Still. But it's better than when you called yourself, 'Skippy', though, I don't see what's wrong with your real name."
Secret then replied, "Everything is wrong with it."
"How?" she asked, putting a paw on her hip before remembering, "Later, we're going to visit my friend, Betty and her family. You better shower and wear something nice and clean."
"Do I have to?"
"Well..., you're grounded so, you're coming with me, but I'm sure that Betty has a kid your age to play with. They are rabbits after all."
"Oh, okay... wait, RABBITS?!"
So, the two squirrels got out of their car and stared at the large, fancy house that happened to be Betty's home, seriously, it was nicer than their house. Secret was wearing an indigo baseball cap, backwards and had it cover half his face with an over-sized gray hoodie, basically, the same outfit he wore earlier but his excuse was that it was clean. His mom was wearing a sky-blue dress with scarlet high heel shoes, something she would typically wear, but, she chose not her matching red bandanna on her head. She tried getting her son to not wear the baseball cap, but he refused saying that he would feel naked without it.
Finally, they walked to the front and rung the door and waited. Then, a little girl rabbit with sleek white fur in a pink ballerina outfit answered the door and looked at the two squirrels, confused.
Secret's mom then bent over to the little girl's eye level and asked in a sweet voice, "Hello, little one, is your mother home?"
The girl then turned around and in a big, loud voice, "MOMMY! THE VISITORS ARE HERE!"
A female voice then responded, "Coming, Isabelle!"
Secret then commented, "Strong lungs for a little girl," rubbing his ears.
Suddenly, an older white rabbit, Secret's mom's age, with ears tied like a ponytail with green dress with purple flowers greeted them.
"Scarlett! HI!"
"Betty! Hi!" greeted Scarlett back, hugging her friend before motioning to Secret, saying, "You remember my son-"
"So, this is the Secret Squirrel my daughter talked so much about," Betty said, laughing, "It's funny, I hadn't seen you since you were four and one of my daughters befriends you. What are you two doing outside? Come in, come in!"
So, both squirrels walked in, Scarlett followed Betty chatting into the kitchen, while Secret headed for the living room and hopped onto the couch, grabbing a magazine but the ballerina girl, Isabelle was there, practicing her ballet. But after a bit, she stopped, faced Secret, and said, "Oh, it's on," switching the music from classical ballet to something a little more 80's.
Suddenly, George Michael was blasting though the speakers and the girl ripped off her ballerina outfit, to which Secret quickly averted his eyes, but turned out she somehow wore a white button-down shirt with black jeans and suspenders underneath. She then grabbed an Amish hat, spun it on her finger, put on her head and starting dancing like she was having a good time.
Secret couldn't help but grin at her dancing, thinking, "She looks like a goofball."
As soon as the song ended, she switched it with the Jaws theme, which Secret found strange, and left. Secret shrugged and went back to his magazine.
But he couldn't seem to get comfortable, he couldn't help but feel like he was being stalked and the music didn't help. This went on until the song ended and he let out a sigh of relief when suddenly, he found himself on the floor, pinned down, unable to move. He looked up at the attacker's face in annoyance which caused her to giggle.
It was Bunny Rabbit.
"Hiya, S. S.! What brings you to my humble abode?" she greeted, still holding down with little effort.
"What do you think? Your mom invited us!"
"Cool! I can show you around and stuff!"
Secret then, in his own polite way, yelled out, "First, ya mind getting off me?"
"Geez, sorry," she said, floating and raising herself up off her classmate, "Guess you don't like your masculinity threatened, huh?" smirking at him.
"Ah, shaddup!"
"Well, no time for that now," Bunny replied, "I gotta show you around," then grabbed Secret's arm and pulled him onto her back, "Let's go!"
"Uh..., Bunny? What are you doing?"
"Let's fly!"
And so she flew as fast as she could with Secret, barely hanging on and screaming.
"Here's Izzy's room! Ponies and Pokemon everywhere!"
##***&&^^^
"Here's Blaze's room! He's moving out."
##***&&^^^
"Here's Reggie's room! He'll come, he never misses dinner."
##***&&^^^
"Here's Radio's room! I know you'll love her, you probably already love her voice!"
##***&&^^^
"Here's Ricky's..., huh? Not here."
##***&&^^^
"Here's my room... um, Secret, you mind helping me with my homework?... Thanks, Bud, I owe you."
##***&&^^^
"Katrina's room... she's out of state, don't touch anything."
##***&&^^^
"Barbette's room... she's out on a date... don't touch."
##***&&^^^
"The twins, Beryl and Garnet, are at a friend's house, it's a shame, really."
##***&&^^^
"My little brother's... oh, hey, Eddie. He's grounded."
##***&&^^^
"Now here's Leveret's room... oh, that's weird... he's not here.
##***&&^^^
"Okay, last room, Mommy and Daddy's room... you don't want to look? Are you sure?...Okay."
"And, here's the game room!" shouted Bunny, cheerfully opening to door for a clearly exhausted Secret.
"Bunny..." he panted, "I... need rest... and water."
"Just a little bit longer," she insisted, then motioned to the room, "Just look at this place!"
Secret looked into the room and was blown away by all the games, sound systems, furniture, TVs. He was now itching to play.
Bunny saw the look in his eyes and commented, smirking, "You boys are all the same," the flew toward a rabbit slightly older than them, wearing a purple sideways baseball cap and a black unzipped jacket, greeted, "Hey, Rick! Almost time for dinner, ya hungry?"
Ricky simply smiled and gave her the thumbs up.
Smiling, she motioned to Secret, saying, "Ricky, that's Secret Squirrel, you know the new kid I told about."
Rick then turned to face him and nodded but before going back to his game.
Bunny then flew back to Secret, saying, "Let's go," and led him away. Rick couldn't help but grin at those two, then realized he was getting his cottontail handed to him and quickly refocused on his game.
"Now, this is Radio's studio," said Bunny, enthusiastically walking in, "Hmm... looks like she's on break. Wanna play with her stuff?"
"What?! No!"
"Suit yourself," she said, pushing some buttons and started singing into the microphone.
Secret suddenly was nervous over her messing with her sister's stuff but, that all changed when he realised that Bunny replace Steve's name in her cover of 'Another Bites the Dust' with his, he grew annoyed. Still a good cover, though.
"You try, Secret," said Bunny, handing him the mike after finishing the song.
"No way, Bun!" exclaimed Secret.
A familiar female voice then said, "It's okay, Kid, I don't mind you messing with my stuff."
"Radio!" shouted Bunny, running to hug the older white rabbit, wearing a white T-shirt with a band logo and the faux-leather jacket with a red plaid skirt, big headphones around her neck.
"Bunny, I love the sound of your voice but, now I wanna hear you and your new friend sing together."
"What? No way!" exclaimed Secret, "I don't sing! I can't!"
Radio was about to say something along the lines of, 'Come on, don't be shy' but, Betty shouted, "Soup's on!"
Bunny and Radio looked at each other with one thing on their mind, "FOOD!" They then all ran out the room but not before Radio played some music from her show.
So after everyone finished eating, they began talking. One rabbit in an orange vest with a goofy expression, Reggie said to Secret, "So your that Secret Squirrel kid my little sister wouldn't shut up about."
"Uh... yeah."
"Dude! I can't you blew up Coach Redheine! That's so awesome!"
Scarlett then scolded, "Secret!"
Embarrassed, Secret asked, "How did you know that? Did Bunny tell you?"
"Yeah and kids kept posted videos online. The Huckleberry kid's video was the best one."
Barbette, back from her date early, wearing a lovely cerise-colored dress, added, "It got a lot of hits, I should know, people kept emailing the videos."
"Oh, come on!"
Bunny, calmly, said to him, "At least, you got us that free day," with a sympathetic smile.
"I guess it was worth getting grounded for," replied Secret, causally.
"What, why?"
"For giving into peer pressure," explained Scarlett, sipping some water.
"It could be worst," Secret continued, "She could've been angry," he then paused, "You don't wanna make her angry, you wouldn't like it when she's angry," and started shuddering.
"It's true, you know," added Betty, laughing, "Scarly here's a beast!"
"Glad you still think that, Bets," replied Scarlett.
"Okay," said Bunny, before asking her mother, "Can Secret and I be excused?"
"Of course."
"Awesome, come on, S. S.!"
As the pair left, Scarlett couldn't help but smile for her son finally made a friend.
Laughing, Secret and Bunny made their way into the living room. Bunny went straight for the DVD shelf while Secret sat on the couch.
She turned to Secret, asking, "You wanna watch a movie?"
"Sure."
Bunny then flew around the shelf, trying to pick out a good movie for them to watch.
"This one? No. How about-? No way, I saw that one yesterday. Maybe? No, I hated that one. Hmm...? Oh, perfect!" she then found what she was looking for, grabbed the movie she wanted, raised it above her head and sang out, "Da, da, de, da, da, da, de, da, da, de, DA! Presenting for your viewing pleasure: The Producers!"
"The Producers?" asked Secret, scratching his head.
"Yeah, were you expecting Wakko's Wish or something?"
"No!" he exclaimed, defensively, "Original or remake?"
"Remake."
"Oh, okay, let's watch it."
And so they did. While they watched, Bunny turned to Secret, saying, "Ya know we just did this for a school play."
"Really? That's cool."
"Yeah, you should have heard Penny's rendition of 'When You Got It, Flaunt It'."
"Yeah, I should- Wait! Penny's not blonde!"
"Ever hear of wigs?" replied Bunny, deadpan, adding, "But she still made a great Ulla. Clawson even went on say that she's a good kisser."
"Clawson? What?!"
"You know, Jake Clawson, one of kat kids, reddish-brown fur, hangs out with Furlong- I mean- Chance Furlong."
"I know who you mean," replied Secret, "They kissed?"
"Well, Clawson did play Leo Bloom, of course, he lost a bet with Furlong and had to audition, but he was amazing!" explained Bunny, excitedly, not paying attention to the look of her friend's face, "Plus, with T. C.- you know T. C., right? Top Cat?"- as Max Bialystock, Snagglepuss as Roger De Bris and Penny as Ulla Inga something something something something Bloom. You ought to hear her say it, especially with that accent she used."
They both laughed at this until that girl, Isabelle yelled out, "Hey! Shut up! I'm trying to watch!"
"Oh, sorry Izzy," said Bunny, laughing.
Secret then asked, quietly, "You let her watch this?"
"Well, why not?" asked Bunny, also quietly, shrugging her shoulders, "She's seen other Mel Brooks stuff," facing the TV.
Eventually, everyone else came in the room to watch the rest of the movie. So after, it was over, they switched it with another musical. But during the previews, Bunny had a sudden craving for milkshakes.
She asked Secret, "Hey, Bud, you wanna milkshake?"
"Sure," answered Secret and then followed her into the kitchen.
As they made their milkshakes, Bunny couldn't help notice how much chocolate Secret was using. She commented, "Kid, that a whole lot of chocolate."
Secret responded with. "Nobody ever puts enough chocolate in these things.
After much thought, she grinned, saying, "Kid, I like your style!"
After they were done, it became obvious that Secret put too much chocolate in his, so much that it was almost black and foaming over the glass. They made more for everyone else, which was a lot.
After finishing both the movie and the drink, Scarlett decided it was time to go home, especially since her son was starting to nod off. She got her son into the car while the Rabbit family waved to them goodbye outside, as they drove off,
As soon as they got inside the house, Secret walked straight to his room and collapsed onto his bed, falling asleep, ending his first day as a student at Hanna-Barbera High School.
to be continued...
I don't know what else to say, other than, say ya later, dudes.
