Chapter 19: Uncle Undercover: Best Uncle Ever
If it happens in town, somehow Douglas 'Uncle Undercover' Squirrel will eventually know about it. When a local girl revealed herself to have superpowers during a fight with an evil fat guy, better known as the evil gold obsessed mastermind, Yellow Pinkie, who was piloting a giant robot, in order to save the whole town, he had already known about her powers for some time. When his own nephew knocked out the gym teacher during a game of dodgeball on his first day of school, he already heard about it and was very impressed. When the school's hall monitors assumed that the nephew had stolen one of the cambots from his shop and attempted to confront him about it, he heard about it and managed to stop it before a fight could break out. So when he heard that four of the local girls caught a few of the local boys peeping at them during their slumber party, using a camera from his shop and as revenge, they forcibly dressed them up in the girliest, most feminine outfits in their wardrobes and made them show up to school dressed up like that, by the end of the school day, he had heard about it. He had also heard that his nephew almost got into fight because of this, apparently, he left the party before the girls came in. Somehow, Scarlett had heard about the fight part, though she didn't know that he did get into a fight, and planned on grounding him... again but, as the boy's uncle and a very responsible one at that, Undercover managed to convince her not to. Apparently, that story that Morocco told him the night before was punishment enough as it did leave the poor boy traumatized for life. Secret attempted to retell the story but, Undercover stopped him before he could get to 'evil sperm' because, hey, he didn't want to be traumatized for life either.
So, there Secret sat behind the counter of The Invention Dimension, just finishing up homework and then just sat there quietly with a thousand-yard stare of sorts. That was when Morocco walked into the shop, heading toward Secret and noticing the squirrel's expression, he said to him, "I'm sorry, Secret."
Suddenly, Secret loudly yelled out, "Yo Uncle, can I go hang out with Morocco?! I'm done with my homework!"
"Um, sure," Undercover said to him, and with that, Secret jumped over the counter, doing a really cool somersault while grabbing Morocco by the arm and ran out of the shop, laughing as he was in a good mood again with his friend. Undercover then commented, "Well, that was fast," referring to how quickly Secret became happy again, and noticed just how familiar that scene was to him. Whether Secret liked it or not, he just did something that his father would do. But Secret is happy again and willing to hang out with his friend and that's all that matters, even if that story will most likely never leave his mind.
So with that, Undercover went back to work, helping a customer when Jake and Chance came running into the shop with a pair of devices in hands.
"Hey, Uncle Undercover," Jake asked, as soon as he walked up to him, "Can you help us fix this?"
"Sure, but I don't have the time right now," Undercover said to the kats teens, "But come back later and I'll see what I can do to help."
Chance then said, grinning, "Thanks, Uncle Undercover," and as the two boys left the shop, he said to Jake, "We're so gonna have the best costumes at the party."
As the two left and Undercover went back to work, he couldn't help but wonder why the local kids always called him 'Uncle Undercover'. Sure, 'Undercover' was always his nickname of sorts. "Thank you, James," he thought to himself, being sarcastic. But where did 'Uncle' come from? There was no way he could be related to all those kids. He only has one brother and that's James Squirrel. Those thoughts were cut off by Blabber Mouse, looking very embarrassed, saying to him, "Uncle Undercover, I could use some advice."
Well, that's new, not really. Undercover, now curious about this, answered, "Sure."
"How do I get a girl to like me?"
"You do know I'm not married, right?" the squirrel asked, but noticing how Blabber's cap was pulled over his eyes, he decided that it would be best if he did try to get advice for this, "Uh..., well, be yourself, for starters..., if she hasn't noticed you, make her..., hmm... make it... very obvious that you're available-"
"Is that even a good idea?" Blabber asked, very skeptical.
"Look, I'm making this up as I go along," Undercover admitted, before continuing, "Oh, I don't know, be her friend?"
"But I am her friend, she's got lots of friends."
"Then hang out with her more."
Blabber simply nodded in agreement.
"...Then make the next move," Undercover advised, feeling like an idiot somewhat, "But do take her feeling into account, got that?"
"Yeah," Blabber said, with knowing excitement, "After I get her, can you tell me how I can get Snoop to actually approve of her?"
"...Sure," Undercover replied, unsure, and with that, the mouse left, probably headed for the video game store. "Wonder how James would've handled this," he thought to himself, then remembered, "Secret had a girlfriend at one point, didn't he? Maybe he would've a better help. Oh, well, hopefully I didn't ruin Blab's life."
It was then when Top Cat and Benny the Ball, looking as casual as someone of their status come possibly be, walked into the shop and, as soon as they spotted Undercover, they handed him a busted-up looking cellphone, a Maharaja Talk 3000. Top Cat then asked, "Hey, Unc, mind if ya fix my phone, I'm waiting for a very important call?"
Suspicious because he was aware of his background, Undercover asked, crossing his arms, raising his eyebrow at the kat, "And just how did you managed to get your paws on this?"
"I have my ways," was Top Cat's response and it was just smug as it sounded.
Benny then added, "Ways," nodding, trying to help.
"But if you are worried about us paying," Top Cat added, smirking at the older squirrel. He reached into his jacket pocket and threw a bundle of green paper at Undercover, "I had my gang scrap all this up."
Knowing that Top Cat and the members of his gang are each living on the streets, Undercover looked very closely at the cash that the kats just threw at him. Either this is the most realistic counterfeit cash he had ever seen in all of his career or it's real.
"Where did you get this?" he asked, narrowing his eyes at the kats, mostly at Top Cat. He knew that they were both good kids but, sometimes they would do something really stupid, not bad enough to go to, say, dog jail, but close enough.
"I did say I have my ways," Top Cat reminded him, crossing his arms. smirking with a touch of smugness and confidence.
"Please, Uncle Undercover," Benny said, looking up at him with those big eyes. If Undercover had kids, he might have built up an immunity towards such things but no, Benny was just too darn cute, even for this old squirrel.
Sighing, figuring that he was already going to regret this, he said to them, "I'll see what I can do."
Grinning, showing off their sharp fangs, both kats said, "Thanks, Uncle," walking away, leaving the shop but as they did so, Top Cat asked Benny, "And I couldn't just steal someone else's phone?" to which, Benny simply shook his head. In his head, he replied, "Then you'd have to call Trixie, telling her about the new number."
Before Undercover could go back to work and yes, he was already starting to sense a pattern here, Adam Ant or Atom Ant as everyone seemed to always call him, much to his very annoyance, came flying in.
"Yes, Adam?" the squirrel asked, getting completely used to kids barging in here today.
"Um, sorry to bother you at work, Mr. Undercover," Adam said, sheepishly, shuffling his feet in mid-air.
"Hmm..., Mr. Undercover, well, that's different," Undercover thought to himself, though, it did make a lot of sense for Adam to call him that, on account of Undercover being his guardian. Adam simply would not see him as an uncle figure, he simply wouldn't.
"This is gonna sound really stupid," said Adam, looking very embarrassed, "but what's your favorite cake... no reason, just asking."
Chuckling, Undercover gave his answer and when that, Adam was off, laughing all the way.
This time Undercover waited for a few minutes before going back to work, in case some random teenager for whatever reason wanted his help, but they never came so back to work, it was. Until some time later, Huckleberry Hound, still wearing the short, frilly red dress, covered in ribbons and bows that he had been forced into.
"Why hello, Uncle Undercover," he greeted, smiling while ignoring the snickers from everyone else in the shop, "I'm here to buy a new cambot."
"Well, alrighty then," Undercover said, ignoring the dress though it did remind him a great deal of his past with his brother, but he wanted to say something, "You do know you can take that off now, right?"
Huck then looked down at his outfit and back to Undercover, saying, "Well, me and Snag both love these outfits even though, the make-up they put on our faces are so not our color." With that, Huckleberry Hound left the building, just after after paying for the device.
Ricky Rabbit, one of Bunny's older brothers, came walking in with a red wagon full of a computer parts.
"Well, Rick, just what do you want?" the squirrel asked, raising an eyebrow.
Ricky then did a quick pantomime, explaining the very reason he was here, complete with gestures toward the wagon.
"So you're here to ask if I'm still going to to help you and your friends built a computer this Saturday?"
Ricky then gave him a thumbs-up, nodding that he got it right.
"Of course, I'll still help." said Undercover and Ricky turned to leave before the squirrel asked, "Do you ever talk?"
Rick simply chuckled in response before leaving.
"Right..." commented Undercover, before going back to work. He just knew some other teenager was going to ask him for help again and he didn't exactly like sending people away but he had to get some more work done into his day. He had managed to get back into the motions when Doggie D.: Local Flirt came running in screaming at the top of his lungs, "HIDE ME!" and dove behind the counter.
"Where is he?!" asked a Moose Mason style bully, angrily stomping into the shop, who happened to be an actual moose, "Duh, he was flirting with my girl!"
"Not here," Undercover said, in a low serious voice, narrowing his eyes at the moose, "Leave, you're making a scene."
"Really?" asked the moose, confused, "I thought I saw him run in here."
"No."
"If I ever see him near my girl again, I'll-"
"Yes, I know, I know!"
Nodding, figuring that the squirrel understood him, even if he was kinda scary looking, the moose left to protect his girl from the like of that daschund.
As soon as he was gone, Doggie D. left his hiding spot, walking up to Undercover, saying, "Thanks."
"You really need to stop risking your life like this," Undercover told him.
Doggie D. chose to reply with a indifferent 'Uh-huh' before putting on a pair of shades and casually left the shop but, not before saying to him, "Later, Uncle!" still casual.
Presumably, the moose caught up to him later.
Some time later, Penelope Pitstop, a cute, lovely, Barbie looking teenage girl, wearing a pink dress with matching jacket and shoes, with her entourage of short teenage 20's style gangsters, complete with grey suits, walked into the shop. She, in her very sweet voice, called out, "Don't worry about me, I'm just looking for inspiration."
"For what?"
"For inspiration," repeated one of them, Clyde, was it? He scowled at the adult squirrel, while keeping his arms crossed. At least, the others seemed friendly.
Undercover then asked them, "So why do you guys follow Penelope around anyway?"
"To protect her!" was their reply, though, why a teenage girl would need protection was beyond him.
After more awkward silence, Penelope came back with a device, saying, "This'll keep that loser ex of mine away from my house," excitedly, everything in her mind just clicked. To Clyde and the others, she said, very sweetly, "You know you can't protect me all the time."
"Why were you looking for inspiration?"
"Oh, that?" asked Penelope, then explained, "I was looking for the perfect gadget for a trap that I'm working on," suddenly her beautiful smile grew into a devious smirk, "That'll teach Peter Perfect that I am no longer interested and hopefully, leave me alone."
Clyde then pointed out, "I did say he wasn't good enough for you."
"Yes, you did," she replied, as she handed Undercover the money to pay for the device, "And I should've listened." After making the transaction, Penelope said to Undercover, "Well, I hope you have a good day, Uncle Undercover. As she and her gangs of bodyguards turned to leave, Undercover decided to ask them, "Just why do you call me 'Uncle Undercover' anyway? We're not related."
"We don't know why, it just fits." With that, they left.
Later, when Undercover came home from work, as soon as he he entered the house and turned the lights on, suddenly most of local kids, the ones that he would help from time to time, his adult friends, mostly their parents, and his family, only his sister-in-law and her son, jumped out of their hiding spots and to show their appreciation for every every he has ever done for them, shouted loudly at the top of their lungs, "SURPRISE!" and let the party commense.
to be continued...
We spent some time with Uncle Undercover, what other exciting things are we going to do next? Watch some girl watch an internet video? No, that's stupid.
Well, see you later, dudes.
