Chapter 13
Emma's head was pounding and she was pretty sure someone was hitting her with a hammer. Oh god. She groaned in pain. The absolute worse pain had to be a hangover. How much had she drunk last night? "Oh crap." She moaned, her voice breaking as she cracked her eyes open against the dim evening light. The room was empty and she wasn't sure if she should feel relieved or not. Killian had left her some time during the night, she couldn't remember when, why or how but her empty room said it happened. She didn't remember much after she had all but thrown herself at him, no wonder he left.
Flopping back onto the soft bed she used her forearm to block out the little light there was. What was she going to do now? Her whole bounty hunter career had been to find Neal; she had built it around that one single goal. Sure, over the years it had changed into a rewarding way of life. She liked to remove the scum from the streets. It made her feel like she was making a difference, like she mattered. But now, she felt deflated and lost.
Making the decision that wallowing in self-pity wouldn't get her anywhere she decided to get up and get a quick shower before she went looking for some food. Preferably something that included eggs, bacon and grease. Throwing the covers off, she made her way to the bathroom and flipped on the blinding light. She squinted into the brightness until her blurry reflection caught her attention, then her eyes flew open. "What in the hell?" She almost yelped out as her hand came up to feel two little holes on the side of her neck. If she didn't know better, she would say she had been bit by something. It was yet another thing to deal with. After a shower and some food—just later.
She came out of the steamy bathroom wrapped in one of the hotels plush towels and drying her hair with another. Which explained her almost jumping through the ceiling when Killian's voice filled the room.
"Good morning, love, sleep well?" He asked. Even his normally pleasant voice pounded around her head and the little scream she had let out hadn't helped matters either.
"How are you so chipper this morning? Didn't you drink as much as I did last night?" She paused suddenly self-conscious standing in front of him in only a towel. "We didn't—uh—last night, I mean—we—" she gestured to the bed and flushed as she remembered stripping and throwing herself at him.
"What do you remember?" Killian asked as he searched her face. It seemed she didn't remember much, and since she hadn't mentioned him biting her. He assumed she didn't remember that. Yet, he couldn't get it out of his head. She had been so alone, and he knew the feeling of being alone. Of being left.
Emma grimaced, this was embarrassing and one of the reasons she didn't drink that much anymore. "Not much. I guess I drank a little too much." She looked up at him, "so is that a no?"
"Aye. We didn't do anything you didn't want to do or anything that you wouldn't remember." He promised and she felt slightly better, but then her hand went to the marks on her neck and his eyes followed her movement. Something akin to sadness was in his eyes and she didn't quite understand why.
Silently she looked at him asking him to tell her what else he remembered of the prior night. Emma watched as he gulped hard nervously, she had never seen Killian nervous. "Tell me." She commanded barely above a whisper.
"It was an accident—well not so much of an accident as a combination of events." He told her as he stepped closer, his hand came up for a moment before dropping back to his side. "We were—uh—how much do you remember, love?" He questioned.
She flushed again and her eyes met his before she replied, "I remember throwing myself at you, but nothing after that." She pulled her lip into her mouth and bit down on it to stop herself from saying more.
A smile spread across his face as the sadness in his eyes seemed to dissipate and he appeared to get closer to her without moving his feet. "That you did- I did tell you that it wouldn't be long, didn't I?" He teased.
"With the help of alcohol, is that how you get all the ladies in bed?" She jabbed back, now on familiar ground with him.
He made a scolding noise at her before continuing to tell her what he remembered, "after you threw yourself at me—" He paused and grinned broadly. "I couldn't resist your womanly charms and gave in. One thing lead to another and I nicked you with my teeth when you pulled my head to your neck." Killian didn't mention how amazing she tasted, or that even now he craved more. What kind of monster did that make him? He knew he would see her memories and feel her pain, yet he craved it.
Emma blinked slowly, "you bit me?"
"Not exactly. Like I said—"
"I heard what you said." She cut him off. "How in the hell did your teeth make two tiny puncture wounds in my neck?" A flash of pleasure shot through her and a memory of holding his head to her neck. Was that what had happened? She closed her eyes tightly trying to bring back the memory through her pounding headache. Nothing.
"It appears my teeth grow when I'm aroused. It hasn't happened like that before. I didn't mean to do it." He had enjoyed it though. Guilt tried to take hold again, but he was too close to Emma, he could smell her natural scent and he just wanted to taste her mouth again. His gaze focused on her lips, her teeth worried her bottom lip and he reached out and released it from the prison she had created for it. "Easy love."
Emma watched as his gaze darkened on her mouth, and she felt the tingling of a response take root deep within her. "I thought you said you weren't a vampire?" She questioned almost breathlessly, arousal making it hard for her to think.
Killian's eyes flicked up to meet hers, "And that is true, I'm not a vampire, but it appears that since I was created by a God I also took on some of the traits of the monsters I am meant to fight." He told her, not sure if it was the truth or not, but it was something he had been thinking about. Maybe he wasn't as different from them as he had always told himself. At that moment he didn't want to think about it, his whole body was focused on even her tiniest of breaths, like the one that hitched out from between her lips a moment ago.
"Would you do it again?" She asked, not sure if she was asking because she feared he would or because she feared he wouldn't. Was that fleeting feeling a memory? If she were sober when he did it she would be able to remember, maybe it would remind her of what happened before.
"Only if you wished it." Killian promised.
"What was it like?" She asked, curiosity taking over. "Did you like it?" Her hangover forgotten in the light of this new information.
He willed his body to stay calm, even with the scent of her arousal filling the small space between them. Space, he needed space. "Shouldn't you get dressed?" He asked her instead of answering the question he didn't have a answer for. Or really the answers he didn't want to give. Just the thought of it had his teeth growing in his mouth. Gods this woman drove him to madness.
Startled she looked down at her body still clad in nothing but a towel. A devious thought crossed her mind to just drop the towel to see his reaction, but she was not going to throw herself at him again. Instead she walked across the room to her suitcase and then dropped the towel and proceeded to get dressed while his eyes burned her wherever they traveled. Emma took her time clothing her body, liking the warmth his eyes created in her. They were almost possessive. Besides it wasn't like he hadn't seen all she had to offer the previous night.
Killian held in a growl and kept his feet planted to the floor. His hand clenched into a fist as he willed himself to stay put. Did the woman not know what she did to him? The monster inside of him wanted to be unleashed, to claim her fully. The monster would lock her up to keep her with him, and he feared if he let it out even a tiny bit he would do just that.
"I have been thinking. I don't like you here alone, so while you are in the city, why don't you come to my home and stay? It is plenty big enough, and you will have your own space if you choose it." One step closer, the monster whispered in joy. He clenched his jaw at the thought. He had been planning to offer her to stay with him. It was all part of the deal. The deal he had made with Loki that would get his family back, at least part of it.
"Look, I'm a big girl and I can take care of myself, even in a city filled with monsters." She told him, her voice muffled a little as she pulled on a very tight shirt. Part of her want to accept the offer, but she knew better than to lean on anyone.
"Just for a night then." He pushed.
"Sorry I can't. I have a date." She told him, her thoughts going back to that bacon and egg breakfast she had promised herself.
"You what?" Killian asked as his monster threatened to burst free and have him throw her caveman style over his shoulder and take her back to his home.
"Look, all this talking has my head throbbing. I need some sustenance, so it's time for you to go." She replied a spark of glee filled her at the jealousy in his tone. Although she wasn't the type of girl that got off on baiting a guy, she found it was a little fun and slightly dangerous feeling to taunt Killian. Tamping down on the unaccustomed thoughts she started to walk to the door of the suite.
Not needing to look back to know he was following her she opened the door for him to exit. Instead he stopped in front of her a dark glow seemed to radiate from him. In an instant he had his hand buried in her hair and his mouth was pressed to hers begging for entrance.
She felt herself cave in and answer his kiss, the desire she felt minutes before came back full force and her hands tangled in his hair and she pressed her body to his. Her back arched away from the door behind her as her body found his. The warmth of his hand pressed her firmly against the evidence of his arousal. It almost made her melt into a puddle of lust right there on the floor in front of him.
All they knew was each other as they nipped at lips, taking and giving at the same time. Until a soft gasp came from the corridor outside her room. It brought her back into herself with a resounding snap, she broke free and with her lips still tingling she glanced into the hallway where a couple stood staring open mouthed at them.
Emma's eyes traveled back to Killian to find him staring down at her a fierce hunger still in his eyes. While she watched, he seemed to rein himself back in. "Remember me on your date, love." He told her and then walked briskly out and past the still gaping couple.
"Date?" The bewildered woman said, clearly confused why she would be practically doing the dirty for anyone to see with someone else if she had a date.
Without meeting the couples gaze, she closed the door in their face and then slumped against it. Looking upward, Emma wondered. What was that saying about playing with fire? She was sure that the bacon and eggs would have nothing on what just happened between them.
A/N - Hope you all enjoyed the update! Tell me what you think! I love it.
