Black spots dotted my vision as I struggled to open my eyes. The realization of where I was came crashing down on me as I recalled what happened. My heart sped within my chest as I struggled to sit up. That was when my eyes met Jeff's, his head viciously shaking. He rose a finger to his lips, signaling for me to be quiet. Even with that smile I could tell he was doing anything but. My grey eyes flickered back to the door, seeing Darren standing there. He seemed to be patiently waiting, which caused my nerves to curl.
To see Jeff helpless allowed me to see just how dangerous Darren now was. Now, he was simply waiting for Ben to arrive to finish us all of. Tears sprung within my eyes, yet I refused to let them drop. I could count on Ben... But it would kill me to see my old best friend fighting against him. I just knew that the old Darren wasn't in there... he was gone, replaced by this bastard. I saw his head turn, his cold eyes landing on Jeff and I. With a wicked grin, he twisted, seeing we were now awake.
"Good morning," he darkly chuckled, shoving his bloody hands into his pockets.
Jeff simply scowled at him as I backed into the corner. I knew there was nothing I could do. Hell, I could barely see good enough to try and fight him without my glasses. They were now sitting cracked and broken, useless in Ben's room.
Jeff slowly got to his feet, causing me to panic where I sat. His hesitance allowed his pain to show, yet he still seemed willing to fight. "Well, Darren. You do have quite the vengeance within you," Jeff rasped, smiling brightly, yet it was tight.
"I thought I made that quite clear," Darren snorted, purposely tapping Jeff's knife against his thigh.
Jeff's pinprick eyes flickered to it, before narrowing hatefully. "Didn't ya know stealing is wrong? I may be a killer, but I don't take what doesn't belong to me," he growled, it holding an amused edge.
"Killing is a tad worse than stealing," Darren seethed, baring his teeth with spite. "But I will stoop to it, as soon as that green elf gets his ass over here to collect his little pet."
I glared at the bastard, my knuckles cracking from the force of my fists tightening. "I'm not his pet," I snarled, standing along with Jeff. "And I hope you're in for an ass whooping once Ben does get here," I laughed, smiling confidently.
"I'd like to see him try, little girl," Darren simply replied, talking down to me in a manner that made my blood boil within my veins.
"Little girl?" I scoffed, throwing my hands into the air. "Before your memory took a plummet, you were my friend. We went to school together for years. We are the same age. Seventeen, you idiot. So by calling me a little girl, you basically called yourself a little boy," I smiled, aching to deck him in the face.
This caused him to blank for a moment, those familiar eyes staring at me so intensely. But they no recognition, causing my heart to plummet. "That was an old life that was behind me. I don't care who you are or what you were to me. But you, along with those two bastards, are going to die tonight."
"What did Ben and I do?" I nearly screamed, outraged. "I hate to throw Jeff under the bus, but he was the only one who hurt you!"
Jeff threw me a look that I tried to ignore. I forced myself not to cringe as Darren started forward at a slow pace, only stopping once he was right in front of me.
"If it weren't for you, or that elf, Jeff the Killer never would have found me," he hissed, poison dripping from his tone.
"I thought you lost your memory," Jeff snickered, quirking an eyebrow. "How would you even know that?"
"I know what I was told. We are created to cause destruction, are we not?"
I noticed Jeff stiffen, but I wasn't sure why. Neither of us had a chance to reply, before a black mist appeared in the corner. I felt my heart sing with joy as Laughing Jack appeared in the room, completely oblivious as to what was happening.
"Hey, Jeff! You wanna go kill-"
His silver eyes met with Darren, then shifted to me. His smile fell, while his features shifted to those of confusion. "Hey, Winter... why are you in here?" he asked, staring at Darren as the silver hardened to grey.
Darren seemed as if he had swallowed glass. His hand that was holding Jeff's knife twitched, not missing Jack's notice.
"Why do you think?" Jeff rasped, taking a step forward. His grin stretched wider, seeing now that Darren was outnumbered.
The grey faded to an empty black. "I knew you were trouble," Jack breathed. "I'm getting Slender," Jack hurriedly said, poofing away before Jeff could stop him.
I nearly collapsed, as Jeff yelled out Jack's name. "FUCK!" he hissed, looking back to me. This wasn't going to end well, one way, or another.
To make all matters worse, Ben walked into the room at that moment. I felt like I was about to pass out once again, all of this too much for my mind to keep up with. Blood trickled down Ben's cheeks as he stared at Darren, who was now smiling brilliantly at him.
"Glad you decided to show up," he snickered, while Ben bared his teeth.
Ben looked over to me his mouth curving into a furious scowl as he returned his glare to Darren. Ben slowly began to turn, shifting into the being I once saw him as. Dripping wet. Nails grown into sharpened claws. Razor teeth and a determination to kill.
"Let's play then," Ben growled, appearing more ferocious than I had ever witnessed him.
Jeff cackled, seemingly overjoyed to be a part of this fight. Whipping out his hand, the lights began to flicker, each bulb in the room popping as Ben collected the energy. Jeff sighed, but didn't seem to think too much of it at the moment. Darting forward, he came within inches of Darren before he disappeared from sight.
Stiffening, Ben spun around, his glaring red pupils searching for him in shock. They were not prepared for Darren to appear behind Jeff, sinking his knife deep into his side. A string of curses exploded from Jeff's mouth as Darren disappeared from sight, leaving a stunned Ben to witness. Jeff's teeth painfully gritted together as he took hold of his knife's hilt, pulling it out without a second thought.
Darren's voice echoed within the air, eerily, as if he was everywhere, yet we couldn't see him. "I hate to cut things short. But due to that clown, I'd better get going. We'll finish this later," he cruelly laughed.
"Ben, get Winter out of here," Jeff snarled, blood dripping to the floor and pooling at his feet.
"Dude, you need help, you're bleeding-"
"I SAID OUT!" Jeff raged, pointing the knife at Ben.
Ben stared at the blade in shock, the swirling light of electricity in his palm slowly burning out. I shakily got to my feet, my eyes dancing around to see if Darren would appear again. But remembering what Laughing Jack had said about Slenderman... I knew he would not. This was more than likely to leave a message, because of Jack's intervention.
I hastily threw myself to Ben's side, as he twisted to the door. Ripping the handle open, we froze in our tracks. Fear trickled up my spine as I took in the sight of the tall, suited man that blocked the exit. His faceless head cocked to the side, and I knew he was examining me.
It was the Slenderman.
