Chapter Eighteen: The Invasion Begins
"What's going on?" Daisuke thought as she saw plumes of smoke rise into the sky from several spots around the village. She heard manic laughter and she looked at Gaara who was grinning like a maniac.
"Daisuke Uchiha, are you prepared to die?" he asked her and Daisuke stepped back from him. "What's wrong, are you afraid to face me now that my true power is unleashed?" Daisuke frowned and she stopped moving backwards and glared at Gaara.
"I don't know what is going on, or what your village is planning, but I won't let you destroy my home," she told him.
"Let me? What makes you think you can stop me?!" Gaara shouted at her.
"I don't know if I can stop you, but I am sure as hell going to try," she replied, her Mangekyo Sharingan blazing.
Meanwhile back in the stands Naruto and Sasuke were looking around as several Sand and Sound shinobi attacked the Leaf Ninja. "What is going on?" Naruto asked.
"It's an invasion." Both he and Sasuke turned to see Kakashi looking at them.
"An invasion?" Naruto asked.
"Yes, the Sand Village has allied with the Sound Village to attack us, and the Kazekage is fighting the Third Hokage."
"What do we do?" Sasuke asked.
"Die!" a Sound Shinobi shouted as he charged them, but Kakashi kicked him away.
"Naruto, Sasuke…help Daisuke fight Gaara, she is going to need it," he ordered them.
"Shouldn't we help you?" Naruto asked.
"No, I can handle myself, but Daisuke is fighting an opponent who will want to kill her without hesitation as he proved moments ago. Daisuke would have died had that strange ribcage not appeared," Kakashi told him and Naruto nodded.
"Come on Naruto," Sasuke said as he jumped over the railing. Naruto followed and both of them landed beside Daisuke.
"Hey guys," she greeted.
"Come to join your friend in death?" Gaara asked.
"Not on your life, we're gonna kick your ass!" Naruto shouted, punching a fist into his palm.
"Just try to do it," Gaara challenged them laughing madly. "Many stronger than you have tried, and all have failed."
"This guy's got issues," Sasuke mumbled, activating his Sharingan.
"Tell me about it," Daisuke agreed.
"So Dai, you just fought this guy. Any advice?" Naruto asked her.
"He's tough, his offense is only matched by his defence. When I fought him, his sand blocked all my attacks until I neutralised it with Watatsumi, but I don't want to use it now," Daisuke answered.
"Why not?" he replied in puzzlement.
"Because Naruto, it may not use a lot of chakra normally but the dark chakra he's using now takes a lot of effort," she told him. "And eye hurts after overusing it," she finished mentally.
"Okay then. Let's go!" Naruto shouted as he charged at Gaara. "WIND STYLE: AIRE BULLETS!" he exclaimed, firing bullets of compressed air at the ground around Gaara kicking up dust, and he jumped at Gaara and delivered and axe kick. Gaara raised his arm and Naruto's foot hit the sand arm. To his shock the sand crawled around his ankle.
"FIRE STYLE: PHOENIX FIRE JUTSU!" Sasuke bellowed jumping into the air, and he fired multiple basketball projectiles at Gaara which forced him to release Naruto and raise a shield of sand up to block the fire.
"SAND SHOWER!" he roared swinging his sand arm, and several globs of sand flew towards Sasuke who weaved through the air to avoid them .I was only thanks to his Sharingan that he was able to do so, and Gaara growled as he noticed Daisuke ran towards him. "SAND SHURIKEN!" He threw shuriken made of hardened sand towards Daisuke and they hit her but she burst into mud. Gaara looked around for her location. "Where are you?" he thought.
"EARTH STYLE: ROCK FIST!" Gaara turned around to see Daisuke with a fist encased in rock on his right and she smashed him in the face and sent him flying. Daisuke then panted heavily and felt to her knee momentarily before regaining her footing. "It's a good thing his automatic defence seems to have turned off when he got that form. Even so, that jutsu took some effort to send Gaara that far away, and my chakra isn't so good," she thought as she pulled out a soldier pill and she swallowed it. She gagged slightly and felt her coils burn as she sensed her chakra climb again. She knew she couldn't take another one safely.
"Nice shot Dai," Naruto said to her and Sasuke nodded.
"But it's not over," Daisuke told them.
"She's right," Sasuke said as Gaara pulled himself back up. "Naruto, we need a lot of Shadow Clones,"
"Roger! MULTI-SHADOW CLONE JUTSU!" Naruto shouted as a massive cloud of smoke appeared and one thousand clones surrounded the arena.
"Whoa, that's a lot of clones," Daisuke said in amazement.
"Let's get him boys!" one Naruto shouted, and all the clones charged at Gaara. Ten of them kicked Gaara into the air before the rest punched and kicked him. "NARUTO UZ-U-MA-KI 1K BARRAGE!" Naruto shouted as the clones pummelled Gaara making him groan. One clone then kicked him down into the ground creating a crater.
"Whoa," Sasuke said.
"I know right?" Daisuke agreed.
"WIND STYLE: INFINITE SANDCLOUD GREAT BREAKTHROUGH!" Gaara shouted from where he lay, and he blew a massive sandstorm towards the clones and destroyed them all. The original Naruto was thrown across the ground and his clothes were torn up and he sat up.
"Naruto! Are you alright?" Daisuke asked him.
"Just peachy, I am never doing that again," he replied, voice pained.
"Was that all you had to offer? Pathetic! Make me feel alive you fools!" Gaara shouted at Team Seven.
Above the fighters, in the Kage box, were the Third Hokage and Jiraiya staring down the Kazekage.
"Isn't it beautiful Lord Hokage?" the Kazekage asked him.
"Why are you doing this?" the Third Hokage demanded.
"Right to the point as always aren't you? Sarutobi-sensei," the Kazekage sneered.
"I knew you were somehow involved, this has your name written all over it Orochimaru," Jiraiya growled through gritted teeth as the Kazekage removed his robes to reveal Orochimaru.
"Good to see you again old friend," he said, greeted the Toad Sage who jumped at him. He ducked and kicked him off the roof of the Kage box, just as four Sound Ninja jumped up onto the four corners of the roof. "Now!" Orochimaru commanded.
"NINJA ART: FOUR FLAMES FORMATION!" they shouted as a purple barrier rose up around the Kage box and sealed in Orochimaru and the Third Hokage.
"I see I won't be getting out of this easily," Sarutobi said.
"You won't be getting out of this at all old man, today I kill you," Orochimaru said chuckling.
"We will see about that, I may be old, but I can still fight," the Third Hokage said, throwing his robes away to reveal him wearing black samurai armour underneath. "I should have killed you that day, but I hesitated because you were my student. But now I shall rectify that mistake today."
"Oh you think you can kill me old man?" Orochimaru asked the Hokage chuckling as he regurgitated a sword that glimmered in the light. The Third Hokage's face remained neutral before he bit his thumb and smeared it on his palm. He went through handsigns.
"SUMMONING JUTSU: ENMA!" he exclaimed and a black staff appeared in his hands.
"Hiruzen, I told you we should have killed Orochimaru last time," the staff told him.
"I know old friend, are you ready for one more fight?" Sarutobi asked.
"Yes, but that sword is going to be a pain," the staff answered.
Back down below with Team Seven and Gaara, the three Genin were panting from the toll the battle had taken on them while Gaara was just grinning manically.
"This guy is tough, how can we beat him?" Naruto asked.
"I got no idea, everything we have thrown at him is just bouncing off him," Daisuke said with a tone of hopelessness.
"I have an idea," Sasuke said making his team look at him. "Kakashi taught me a new jutsu over the month. It should work against this guy's sand, but I need some cover," he explained.
"Okay then," Daisuke said to him before she went through handsigns. "FIRE STYLE: GRAND FIREBALL JUTSU!" she exclaimed, breathing a massive fireball towards Gaara. Sasuke weaved through handsigns as well and held his hand out. Lightning covered his hand and chirping was heard.
"What is that?" Naruto asked.
"My new jutsu, CHIDORI!" Sasuke shouted as he ran towards Gaara directly behind the fireball Daisuke had fired. It collided with Gaara's sand arm protecting him from harm, but just behind it Sasuke came in and sliced through the sand arm like butter. The arm went flying away before hitting the ground and it turned into sand.
"Whoa!" Daisuke exclaimed in awe.
"Impressive, no one has done such damage to me before, and in gratitude you will die!" Gaara roared as he sent a wave of sand at Sasuke and threw him back into the wall of the stadium. The male Uchiha fell to the ground.
"Sasuke no!" Daisuke shouted as Naruto growled.
"Okay you bastard, no one hurts my friends!" he shouted at Gaara as he held his hand out. A Shadow Clone appeared beside him and started to swirl its hands around Naruto's. A blue ball of chakra appeared in his hand and Daisuke looked at it. Unknown to her, her left eye swirled and analysed the technique's composition before filing it away in her mind. "My new jutsu, RASENGAN!" Naruto shouted as he ran towards Gaara with the sphere of chakra. Naruto plunged his technique towards Gaara and hit him in the chest, sending Gaara spiralling away across the arena.
"Now that was cool," Daisuke thought as Sasuke pulled himself back up and walked towards Naruto.
"Not bad Naruto," he said to his teammate.
"Yeah, that was so cool Naruto," Daisuke praised him before she gasped and she pointed towards Gaara who was standing up. His entire body minus his legs were now engulfed in sand, and a spiral on his sandy chest quickly healed.
"Are you kidding me? How could he still be standing up, I hit him dead on," Naruto said in disbelief.
"You think such a pathetic move could harm me!?" Gaara asked him.
"This is bad," Sasuke said.
"What can we do?" Naruto asked.
"SAND TSUNAMI!" Gaara shouted as he waved his hands and a massive tidal wave of sand headed towards his opponents.
"We're so dead," Sasuke said with disturbing calm. "Who throws tsunamis around?" Daisuke gritted her teeth. There was no way she'd let it end like this. She concentrated at the incoming jutsu. She began to channel most of her remaining chakra into her left eye as she felt a rising pain coming from it and she flinched before continuing.
"Watatsumi," she whispered. The incoming tsunami fell apart into a flood of normal sand even as she slumped. Daisuke felt something run down her cheek from her eye and swiped at it. It was blood.
"Daisuke!" Naruto yelled in panic. He grabbed her and along with Sasuke jumped out of the remaining sand's way.
"Sorry guys," she said weakly. "I'm timing out." Gaara roared in frustration and she lifted her head. "Try combining your two new jutsu. It might work, it might not, but it's probably our best chance to inflict enough damage to matter against him."
"CHIDORI!" Sasuke exclaimed.
"RASENGAN!" Naruto shouted, holding a sphere in his hand and Sasuke held his Chidori over it. The two attacks began to overlap into a spiralling condensed electrical storm. Both boys had to use both hands to contain it as it grew unstable.
"Let's go Naruto!"
"Alright Sasuke!" Naruto shouted as both he and Sasuke ran at Gaara.
"RASEN-CHIDORI" Both he and Sasuke roared as they hit Gaara dead on. A black sphere engulfed them before bright light appeared as it cracked and exploded. Gaara was thrown backwards and he went crashing through the wall of the arena and into the surrounding forest.
"Alright guys, don't let up." Daisuke told her friends. She drew a third soldier pill from her pouch, gritted her teeth and swallowed it. She knew she'd pay for it later, but for now it was just what she needed. She'd be okay eventually… she hoped. As she jumped off after Gaara, Sasuke and Naruto followed her. They all leapt through the forest and soon came upon Gaara lying on the ground with a trench from where he hit the ground.
"Interesting, interesting! Not bad Uchiha and Uzumaki!" he roared getting back to his feet. His entire sand armour on his torso has been blasted away, but had absorbed the attack.
"Oh come on!" Naruto exclaimed.
"If that attack didn't end him, what will?" Sasuke asked.
"I…don't know," Daisuke said.
"You cannot defeat me!" Gaara shouted at them. "WIND STYLE: AIR BULLETS!" Gaara roared as he fired bullets of air at Team Seven making them dodge as the attacks hit the tree and destroyed several branches.
"FIRE STYLE: PHOENIX FIRE JUTSU!" Daisuke shouted breathing fireballs at Gaara and hitting the area around him.
"WIND STYLE: GREAT BREAKTHROUGH!" Naruto shouted, breathing wind at the fire. The flames grew and engulfed Gaara who laughed madly as he used his sand to smother the flames. Naruto jumped down while flashing through handsigns and his whole arm was covered in wind. "WIND STYLE: DRILLING WIND FIST!" he shouted as he punched Gaara in the chest and the wind dug in. Naruto saw sand pour out of the wounds he inflicted on Gaara.
"You almost penetrated my sand armour," Gaara said before he grabbed Naruto's throat with one of his sand arms and squeezed. Naruto struggled to break free.
"Naruto!" Daisuke shouted as Sasuke went through handsigns to try and perform the Chidori again, but the lightning fizzled out.
"Not now," he grunted as his face was covered in markings and the lightning came back. He charged at Gaara and sliced through the sand arm holding Naruto causing the blonde to drop to the ground.
"Thanks," he gasped to Sasuke who nodded before jumping as Gaara sent sand towards him.
"SAND CANNON!" Gaara roared as he fired a condensed ball of sand at Sasuke and Naruto. It hit them and sent them flying. "And now for you Daisuke Uchiha, I shall kill you first," he told Daisuke who growled at him.
"I won't let you kill me, or my friends!" she roared as the same golden ethereal ribcage encased her. Two arms appeared with audible cracks and she looked at them shock. A word then came to her mind. "Susanoo."
"You get more and more interesting, but that won't stop me from killing you," Gaara told her as he jumped at her. Daisuke held her hand out and one of the arms of her Susanoo punched Gaara, sending him back into the trees. Daisuke then jumped at him and the Susanoo arms grabbed Gaara. They started to crush him before Daisuke flicked her hand and he was thrown away into the ground. He got back up only for Daisuke to jump down and her Susanoo arms pummelled him back down. He moved slightly and he was hit again.
"Give up yet!?" Daisuke shouted at him. She winced, both of her eyes flared with pain and though she thought she might be imagining it, the world seemed to get a little blurrier. Blood poured down her cheeks.
"I am not going to lose….to…someone…LIKE YOU!" Gaara roared and a massive amount of sand erupted into the sky. It threw Daisuke back until she landed on a tall tree and looked up to see a massive Tanuki covered in markings standing 100 feet above the ground.
"What is that?" she asked in shock as the Tanuki looked down at her.
"This is the true power of the desert, and this is your end," she heard Gaara's voice call out as the Tanuki waved its arm and a massive amount of sand headed towards Daisuke. Here burning eyes widened before she crouched and jumped into the air. Using her chakra she was able to fly far enough away to avoid the sand as it crashed into the ground and uprooted a large amount of trees.
"Crap, that was close," Daisuke told herself. The Tanuki started to slowly move towards her.
"WIND STYLE: AIR BULLETS!" Gaara shouted as the Tanuki opened its mouth and fired massive bullets of air towards Daisuke who yelped as she flew out of the way of two of them, but the third one brushed her and the shockwave sent her crashing down to the ground.
"Ow," she mumbled. She tried to move and winced. It felt like every bone in her body was broken or cracked and she couldn't feel her chakra anymore. Even her Sharingan faded away.
"Daisuke!" she looked up to see Naruto running towards her. "Are you alright?" he asked her worried.
"I'll live. We can't keep this up forever Naruto, please tell me Jiraiya taught you something more than Rasengan and that other jutsu," Daisuke replied, and Naruto nodded his head as he bit his thumb and he weaved through handsigns.
"SUMMONING JUTSU!" Naruto shouted as a massive plume of smoke erupted and Naruto and Daisuke shot into the sky.
"What the? Where am I?" a voice asked and Daisuke looked down to see a massive toad smoking a pipe and wearing a blue jacket with a tanto on his waist.
"Yo, boss toad up here!" Naruto called.
"What is this gaki? How dare you summon me with no one to fight," the toad told Naruto.
"Who is this guy?" Daisuke asked.
"Daisuke, meet Gamabunta the boss of the toads. Boss I need your help or the village would be destroyed," Naruto told the toad pointing towards the Tanuki.
"What? You want me to fight Shukaku the One Tailed Bijuu?! Are you out of your mind kid, forget it," Gamabunta told Naruto who fumed.
"Listen to me you overgrown tadpole! I summoned you here so that means you listen to me! And I say help me fight that thing!" he shouted jumping up and down.
"Uh Naruto, do you really want to insult this guy?" Daisuke asked him before wincing as the toad underneath her moved. Gamabunta laughed.
"You know kid, you've got guts. Alright I'll help you out," he told Naruto. Suddenly Gaara emerged from the centre of Shukaku's head.
"PLAY POSSUM JUTSU!" Gaara said before slumping over.
"He's done it," Gamabunta said.
"Done what?" Daisuke asked.
"Shukaku isn't known for his mental stability, if his container should ever fall asleep he will take control. Which is why his container can never sleep," Gamabunta explained.
"YEAH! I'M FINALLY FREE! HERE I COME BABY! I HOPE YOU'RE READY TO DIE, LET'S DO THIS!" Shukaku screamed pointing at Gamabunta.
"Hold on tight you two!" Gamabunta shouted. Naruto held Daisuke in his arms as gently as he could as he used chakra to stick to the toad.
"WIND STYLE: AIR BULLETS!" Shukaku bellowed as he fired a bullet of air towards Gamabunta.
"WATER STYLE: LIQUID BULLETS!" Gamabunta bellowed as he spat out a water bullet towards the air bullet and the two attacks collided. "Hold on tight!" Gamabunta shouted drawing his sword as he ran towards Shukaku. "TOAD BLADE CUT!" Gamabunta shouted as he swung his sword and he cut through the left arm of Shukaku and sent if flying. "Man that was tough, I'm no slouch but even for me it was hard to cut through that arm," Gamabunta thought.
"If only I was in any condition to use fire jutsu," Daisuke said. Suddenly a black-haired boy jumped his way up Gamabunta.
"I can provide fire," Sasuke said. "Though I don't know how much good it will do."
"Hey kid that's not a bad idea, when I give the word use your fire," Gamabunta told Sasuke who nodded his head. "Now!" he said to her and he breathed in and spat oil out towards Shukaku. Sasuke breathed a stream of fire at the same time. "FIRE STYLE: TOAD OIL FLAME BOMB!" Gamabunta shouted as the oil caught fire and hit Shukaku and engulfed him in fire.
"Did we get him?" Naruto asked as the fire died down and Shukaku was encased in glass.
"That answer your question?" Sasuke asked him before the glass shattered and Shukaku roared in anger.
"NOW YOU HAVE MADE ME MAD!" he roared.
"Oh crap, now what?" Naruto asked.
"You have to wake up the redhead kid," Gamabunta told him. "If the container is woken up Shukaku should disappear,"
"Okay then, but how do we get close enough to do that?" Daisuke asked.
"As you can see, I'm not the best person to hold onto something," Gamabunta told the three.
"Then what do you suggest?" Sasuke asked him.
"We will have to do a combined transformation jutsu, transform me into something with fangs and claws!" Gamabunta shouted at Naruto.
"Fangs and claws, fangs and claws," Naruto chanted as Gamabunta ran towards Shukaku.
"NOW KID!" Gamabunta shouted.
"TRANSFORMATION JUTSU!" Naruto shouted and a massive cloud of smoke covered him, Daisuke, Sasuke, and Gamabunta. Out came a giant fox that charged towards Shukaku. The fox bit down on Shukaku and sunk it's claws into the Tanuki who roared in pain. It then turned back into Gamabunta and Naruto jumped off of the toads head before punching Gaara in an effort to walk him up, but it didn't work.
"WAKE UP!" Naruto shouted as he grabbed Gaara and headbutted him with enough strength to make them both bleed, making him wake up.
"NO! I JUST GOT OUT!" Shukaku shouted as he collapsed.
"A PLAIN OLD HEAD-BUTT HUH?" Gamabunta asked before he chuckled. "NOT BAD KID, I'D STICK AROUND, BUT I'M AT MY LIMIT," he said before vanishing in a cloud of smoke. Sasuke caught Daisuke and landed on the top of a tree. The two saw Naruto and Gaara lying on the forest floor. Sasuke then jumped down and ran towards Naruto. Temari and Kankuro landed beside Gaara and prepared to attack.
"Enough….they won….let's go," Garra told his siblings who paused and then nodded. They picked up Gaara and jumped off as Naruto struggled to his feet and he collapsed by Daisuke. Sasuke sighed.
"Not bad idiot, not bad at all," Sasuke told his teammate as he dragged his two teammates back to the village.
