Chapter Twenty: The Slug Sannin Found
After the encounter with Itachi and Kisame that resulted in Sasuke being injured and being taken back to the village by Gai, Naruto, Daisuke, and Jiraiya were on the road once more in search of Tsunade. "So those guys were Akatsuki?" Naruto asked.
"That's correct," Jiraiya answered him.
"What do they want with Naruto? Does this have something to do with the Nine Tails?" Daisuke asked and Jiraiya looked at her surprised. "Yeah I know about the Nine Tails inside of Naruto, as does Sasuke," she told him answering, the unasked question.
"For how long?" Jiraiya asked.
"Ever since Mizuki tried to frame Naruto for stealing the forbidden scroll, he told Naruto in hopes of breaking Naruto's spirit, but me and Sasuke didn't let that happen," Daisuke told him and Naruto nodded, agreeing with his friend.
"I see," Jiraiya said as he placed his hand on his chin. "Yes, the Akatsuki are a criminal organisation comprised of S-Rank missing ninja, the two you met were Itachi Uchiha who you already know, and one of the former Seven Ninja Swordsman Kisame Hoshigaki."
"Okay, but who else is part of the group?" Naruto asked.
"I don't know," Jiraiya conceded. "But I do know that their uniform is black robes with red clouds on them."
"Anyway, when can we start working on my Rasengan again?" Naruto asked, bouncing up and down in exuberance. Jiraiya chuckled at his pupil's enthusiasm.
"Okay kid, you win. Let's stop for the day and train," he told the two of them and they nodded. Daisuke was setting up her tent while Naruto and Jiraiya were standing a small ways off. "So from what Daisuke has told me you used the Rasengan against Gaara during the invasion right?"
"That's right, but it wasn't as powerful as yours was," Naruto informed him.
"What? Naruto you sent Gaara flying twenty feet spinning like a pinwheel, how is that not powerful?" Daisuke asked.
"Observe," Jiraiya said as he turned to face a boulder and he held his hand out and a Rasengan formed in his hand and he drove it into the rock. There was a grinding sound before the rock exploded into a shower of shrapnel.
"Whoa," Daisuke said in awe. "That was awesome!"
"Hey, you just said my Rasengan was awesome Daisuke!" Naruto complained.
"Oh lighten up Gaki, you managed to get the Rasengan an impressive level of power in a month, but I have mastered it for years," Jiraiya told him. "By the time you are my age you might get it to that level." Naruto pouted slightly.
"Just you wait Pervy Sage, I'll master it and get it to your level in three days," he proclaimed and Jiraiya was silent before he laughed.
"That's a good one kid, look it took the Fourth Hokage three years to create it, and it took me three months. You really think you can master it in three days?"
"I can do it and I never go back on my word," Naruto said and Daisuke nodded.
"He can do it," she agreed.
"A more powerful Rasengan will come with time and practice, for now you should focus on creating the rotation and shell without a clone." Naruto grumbled.
"That will take me forever!" he protested. Jiraiya sighed.
"What happened to your attitude? Did you think that just because you could make a Rasengan with a clone you were done? That all that was left was to increase its power? If it bothers you that much, use shadow clones to help with the training."
"Got it Pervy sage!" Naruto chirped, his mood rising.
"Now you do your best while I help Daisuke train." Jiraiya told him. "Now then Daisuke, how do you feel about a spar against me?" he asked and Daisuke's jaw dropped.
"What? But you're one of the legendary Sannin, you'll cream me," she said rapidly.
"Well, I'll go easy on ya, and I'll only use physical abilities while you can do everything, but no using your Mangekyo Sharingan, or Sharingan for that matter. There may be a time when you have to fight without your bloodline, so let's see how you hold out against one of the Sannin!" Jiraiya finished with a pose only to duck as Daisuke jumped and sent a kick at his face hoping to catch him off guard. "Nice try, but I'm too old to fall for such a simple distraction," he told her. Daisuke tried to punch him but he caught her fist and tossed her around him, but Daisuke used her agility and she used her free leg to kick at him. He caught her kick in another hand and tossed her dozens of feet away with a swing of his arm.
"Don't get overconfident kid, if you do you'll be dead faster than Naruto eats ramen," Jiraiya told her as he threw some shuriken towards her at blinding speeds and Daisuke barely managed to duck as one shuriken cut some strands of her hair off.
"FIRE STYLE: FIREBALL JUTSU!" Daisuke shouted as she breathed a fireball towards Jiraiya who leaped to the side and smiled.
"Not bad," he thought. Daisuke went through handsigns again and Jiraiya realised what jutsu she was about to perform.
"EARTH STYLE: MUD CLONE JUTSU!" Daisuke shouted as two clones rose out of the ground formed from mud.
"Three on one huh? Maybe they'll help her land a blow… maybe," Jiraiya thought. He ducked under one of Daisuke's haymakers and a second kick. He grabbed Daisuke's ankle and he threw her away for a second time.
Daisuke's clones moved into another assault, but two quick and precise blows from Jiraiya scattered them into mud once more. "Damn I thought they would last longer, but I shouldn't be surprised, I am fighting Jiraiya," she thought before she heard something and jumped backwards as Jiraiya tried to hit her with an axe kick.
"Good reflexes kid, but good isn't going to cut it in the ninja world," he told her with a grin and Daisuke frowned.
"Are you taking me seriously!? Or am I beneath your attention!?" she shouted at him in a fit of anger before her mouth snapped shut and Jiraiya's expression hardened at Daisuke's comment.
"You're not in my league kid. If you want the strong to pay attention to you in a fight, you will need strength. Don't be so offended, after all, carelessness can cause a strong shinobi to lose to a weaker one. Rather than throw a tantrum about it, try to use their behaviour to your advantage. Focus more on ninjutsu because I've limited myself from using it. Focus on my casual responses to your actions. Everything is a weapon in a fight and if you can't use your opponent's behaviour against them, you're in trouble. But if you wanted me to fight back, I can oblige." He ran towards Daisuke and she rolled out of the way but Jiraiya was already after her and he kicked her in the torso, sending her flying back. She landed and rolled across the ground.
"FIRE STYLE: FIRE SHOT!" Daisuke shouted as she jumped into the air and breathed fireballs towards Jiraiya which expanded into firestorms once they made contact with the ground, but Jiraiya jumped out of the way and landed on a tree branch. Daisuke then jumped up at him and she weaved through more handsigns. "EARTH STYLE: ROCK FIST!" she shouted as her fist was coated in rock and she went to punch Jiraiya but he jumped over her and she ended up punching the tree branch, causing it to snap clean off. Daisuke then saw Jiraiya land on the ground and charged towards him weaving through more handsigns. "EARTH STYLE: SUPER LIGHTWEIGHT BOULDER JUTSU!" she announced as her speed increased, but Jiraiya stuck his foot out and Daisuke tripped and went flying into a tree. She slid down and looked into the sky with swirls in her eyes before groaning. She saw Jiraiya standing over her with a smile.
"I win kid, though I am impressed. Even though I mostly allowed you to attack me in order to assess your abilities, you are easily Chunin level and that's without your Sharingan." Daisuke grinned.
"Hey Pervy Sage I'm…..whoa! What the heck happened?" Both looked at Naruto walking into the clearing and he looked at the destruction.
"We were just having a spar remember?" Daisuke asked him.
"Oh yeah, but you said spar….not full on fight," Naruto countered.
"Actually, I only used taijutsu, Daisuke was the one using jutsu," Jiraiya said, and Naruto looked at Daisuke who was grinning sheepishly. "What were you saying again Naruto?"
"Oh, I'm out of balloons, but check this out!" Naruto exclaimed as he held one hand out and then his other hand above it and a blue sphere of chakra appeared between his hands. "I can do the Rasengan without clones anymore!" He cheered happily. "Those shadow clones really hit the spot!"
"Nice job Naruto," Daisuke praised him and he grinned.
"She's right, that's impressive; but you still need two hands to form it," Jiraiya said and Naruto's expression fell. "But that's one step closer to being able to make it with a single hand," Jiraiya added quickly and Naruto smiled.
"Thanks Jiraiya-sensei," he said and Jiraiya smirked.
"Sensei eh?" he asked.
"Well, yeah. But if you peep on any more women for your research, you're going back to being Pervy Sage," Naruto told him and Jiraiya sweatdropped.
"No respect from kids these days," he mumbled, causing Daisuke and Naruto to laugh. He chuckled. "Okay you two cut it out, it's time to get some sleep. Then tomorrow we're heading for Tanzaku town, we should be there by midday if we leave early," he told both Genin who nodded and the three of them all headed to bed.
The next morning in Tanzaku town, a blonde hair woman who had her hair in two ponytails and wore a green jacket and had a large bust walked beside a young black haired woman who wore a black kimono and carried a pig in her arms.
"Lady Tsunade, why do we have to always keep running from debt collectors? Why can't you just pay your debts?" The black haired woman asked the blonde known as Tsunade.
"Because I don't feeling like it Shizune, besides I can pay of my debts any time using the Senju's bank accounts," Tsunade said.
"Using your family's money to pay off your debts Tsunade? Oh my you never change." Both Tsunade and Shizune saw a very familiar figure with black hair and yellow eyes ahead of them: Orochimaru. He had his arms wrapped in bandages and Kabuto was beside him with a sound headband on his forehead.
"Orochimaru, fancy seeing you here," Tsunade said disinterested but on the inside she was thinking at a rapid pace. "He's running a fever, and his arms…they're useless…what happened to him?"
"I see you've noticed my injuries. They're a gift I got when I killed Sarutobi-sensei," Orochimaru said. Tsunade's face twisted in disgust even as she felt shock flow through her.
"You're just as sick as you were when we were kids, what do you want?" she asked him.
"Can't I visit an old friend? I know you've forsaken our village. So I come to ask a favour…you're the greatest medical ninja in the land so I believe you can heal my arms," Orochimaru said and Tsunade crossed her arms.
"Why should I heal you?" she asked bluntly. "And don't pull the teammate card with me, you betrayed me that day just as much as you betrayed the Leaf."
"Then perhaps this will change your mind. If you heal my arms, I will resurrect your husband and younger brother with a forbidden jutsu that I have developed." Her eyes widened.
There were several moment where Tsunade was lost in through, grief passing over her face even as she remembered them. "And what will you do once I heal you? Go attack the Leaf again?"
"You think so little of me Tsunade, I give you my word I won't harm the leaf village once you heal me," Orochimaru reasoned with her and Tsunade was silent for a minute.
"I'll think on it," she replied.
"You have until the end of this week, meet us outside the village if you decide to come." Orochimaru and Kabuto vanished in swirls of wind.
"Lady Tsunade, you can't seriously be thinking on healing him," Shizune said to her.
"Don't worry Shizune, this doesn't concern you," Tsunade told her before she walked off and Shizune sighed before following. Later that day Naruto, Daisuke and Jiraiya had arrived at Tanzaku town.
"Here we are, Tanzaku town," Jiraiya said.
"Wow cool, so where do we find this Tsunade lady?" Naruto asked.
"If I know my old teammate she'll likely be at a bar getting drunk, or at a casino losing all her money….again," Jiraiya answered morosely.
"Oh great, now we got the whole package…Orochimaru a sick and twisted man who experiments on people, Jiraiya a perverted hermit and now Tsunade a drunken gambler, and not a very good one," Daisuke groaned.
"Well Tsunade has been called the Legendary Sucker, no matter what she tries she always loses when she gambles," Jiraiya said with a chuckle.
"Oh terrific," Naruto said as the trio stopped in front of a bar. "We can't go in there! We're not eighteen," he told Jiraiya.
"Hey kid, once you put on those headbands you're old enough to kill, old enough to sleep with women, and you're also old enough to drink," Jiraiya said as he walked inside and Daisuke and Naruto shrugged as they walked into the bar.
"So what does Tsunade look like?" Daisuke asked before she heard an oink and she looked down to see a pig looking up at her. "Well hey there, what's your name?" she asked the pig who oinked at her.
"Tonton there you are. Don't go running off like that," Shizune said running up to Daisuke. "So sorry about him, he likes to wonder."
"Oh it's no problem, I'm Daisuke Uchiha," Daisuke introduced herself to Shizune.
"Uchiha?" I heard about there being two survivors from the massacre," Shizune said.
"Yeah, not something I like to be reminded off," Daisuke said downcast.
"Oh, I'm sorry," Shizune said quickly.
"Hey Daisuke get over here," Daisuke looked up to see Naruto waving to her as he and Jiraiya were sitting at a table with Tsunade who was drinking from a bottle of alcohol.
"Coming," she said as she walked over and Shizune followed and sat beside Naruto while Shizune say beside Tsunade.
"Lady Tsunade, must you drink so much every time we enter a bar?" Shizune asked but Tsunade ignored her as she stopped drinking and she looked at Jiraiya.
"So what're you doing here Jiraiya, do you want a favour as well?"
"As well?" Naruto asked.
"I had a visit from our other teammate, Orochimaru. And he told me some interesting news, our sensei is dead," she explained.
"Yeah, he killed the old man," Naruto said.
"Who are the brats?" Tsunade asked.
"I'm Naruto Uzumaki," Naruto declared.
"This is Kushina's kid?" Tsunade asked aloud and Naruto and Daisuke gasped while Jiraiya nodded his head.
"You knew who my mother was?" Naruto asked her.
"That's right kid, she was like a daughter to me; you're telling me you haven't told him who his parents are Jiraiya?" Tsunade asked her fellow Sannin.
"I've told him I knew them, and a few things about both of them but that's it," he answered.
"I see, anyway…who is the red head, another Uzumaki?" Tsunade asked.
"No, I'm not an Uzumaki. I'm Daisuke Uchiha," Daisuke said and Tsunade frowned slightly.
"An Uchiha huh?" she asked looking at Daisuke who nodded. "I hope you're not a jutsu thief like so many of your family."
"I don't steal anything lady!" Daisuke snapped angrily. "I am sick of people thinking that Uchiha are nothing but thieves! Unlike some people I don't need to use my bloodline to kick ass!" she said angrily at Tsunade.
"Easy Daisuke," Jiraiya told her. "Tsunade that was uncalled for, many Uchiha only stole jutsu from enemies on the battlefield, not allies. And besides we're not here to discuss such things, the village needs a new Hokage, and your name popped up and…."
"I decline, anyone who would take the title of Hokage is nothing more than a fool…they all die in the end defending a flickering will of fire," Tsunade said.
"How dare you!" Daisuke shouted angrily.
"Excuse me?" Tsunade asked her.
"Don't you dare insult the title of Hokage. You insult the Third Hokage and the other Hokage by saying that! They died defending the village, not cower away in some bar drinking their sorrows away like you, you old hag!" Daisuke shouted angrily and Tsunade frowned and the bottle in her hand shattered.
"You want to start a fight with me kid?" she asked Daisuke.
"Oh bring it on you old drunk, I'll wipe the floor with you," Daisuke said and Naruto facepalmed while Jiraiya shook his head. Daisuke stormed out and Tsunade followed. Both stood in a street.
"Are you sure you don't want to back out kid?" Tsunade asked her.
"Not on your life hag," Daisuke told her activating her Sharingan.
"All I need is one finger to beat you," Tsunade said holding up one finger.
"Underestimating me eh?" Daisuke asked. "It's your funeral," she said as she ran towards Tsunade who sighed. Daisuke threw a punch at her and she backed up before flicking Daisuke, sending her flying backwards.
"I told you only one fing-," Tsunade was cut off as Daisuke turned into mud and Tsunade turned around to see a falling kick aimed at her. She deflected it with a single finger and sent Daisuke flying back, though the Uchiha landed on her feet.
Daisuke flew through handsigns. "FIRE STYLE: FIRE SHOT!" Being careful to ensure that the fire would avoid anything flammable, she blew a blast of blazing fire at Tsunade. The older woman jumped backwards to avoid the fiery explosion. Unknown to her, Daisuke had created one more clone that hadn't revealed itself. It appeared behind Tsunade bursting out of the ground. It tried to strike her but Tsunade managed to deflect the attack with her finger once more. However, the real Daisuke immediately took advantage of the opportunity. She charged towards Tsunade holding her hand out. A blue sphere began to swirl into existence in her palm and the older woman almost froze but reacted a moment later. Unable to turn back towards Daisuke in time, she instead tapped the ground with a foot and created a fissure.
Daisuke barely managed to avoid tripping but her charge was aborted nonetheless. A moment later the blue sphere pulsed and exploded leaving a crater and Daisuke on the ground with burns on her arm and face.
"Daisuke!" Naruto shouted as he ran towards her and shook her. "Speak to me." Daisuke groaned and sat up.
"Man, what the heck happened?"
"You taught her the Rasengan? Are you trying to kill her?" Tsunade asked Jiraiya.
"Hey don't look at me like that! I didn't teach her it at all," he rebutted.
"But then how did she learn it?" Shizune pointed out.
"I copied it accidently; during the fight against Gaara when Naruto used the Rasengan I had my Mangekyo Sharingan activated and it must have copied how it was formed," Daisuke explained.
"That's not how the Sharingan, Mangekyo or otherwise, works," Jiraiya protested. Daisuke frowned.
"One of my techniques allows me to analyse the chakra composing jutsu by looking at it. That probably has something to do with it." Jiraiya nodded in understanding.
"Well by doing that you didn't go through the steps to learn it, so ergo it blew up literally in your face," Jiraiya said and Daisuke groaned as Shizune walked over to her and held her hands out. They glowed green and healed the burns on Daisuke's arms and face.
"Yeah well give me a week and I'll have it down," Daisuke said.
"Ha, like you can master the Rasengan by the end of the week brat," Tsunade taunted.
"You wanna bet on that?" she asked.
"Okay sure, how about this….if you can master the Rasengan and perform it without it blowing up in your face by the end of the week then I'll come back with you to become the Hokage. If you don't do it however you leave and never come after me again," Tsunade told Daisuke.
"Okay, how do I know you won't back out of the deal?" Daisuke asked her as Tsunade held out her necklace that made Shizune gasp.
"If you win the bet, I'll give this to you," Tsunade said.
"What is that?" Naruto asked.
"This is my grandfather's the First Hokage's necklace, its value can buy you ten mountains of gold," Tsunade said.
"Deal," Daisuke said quickly and Tsunade smirked.
"Remember kid, the end of the week." She walked off and Shizune followed her.
