Chapter 2: Present Day

May 3

EPOV

I woke up in the morning and sat up in my bed. My vision was much hazier then before, but everything was bright. I smiled as I swung my legs over the side of the bed. My body struggled to move and I almost fell when I stood up. It felt so strange to not be able to move as fast as I could before. I almost felt weighed down, but I was too happy to care about that. I moved to the mirror and looked at myself.

I looked older, more mature then I had before. My skin was still pale, but I could now see the blood running underneath it like small rivers. My eyes were back to their original green colour and I looked like myself, but not so. . .unusually beautiful. I smiled at my reflection and then listened.

Silence pressed against my ears lovingly. I couldn't hear a thing, not words spoken by people in the house, or any thoughts anywhere nearby. It was wonderful. I laid my hands on my chest and felt the strong heartbeat there.

This was the one thing I'd wanted for so long; to be human again. And now I was and I could finally have everything I'd dreamed of. A wife, a family and all of that started with Bella….my Bella.

Before I could even react, I heard footsteps and my door burst open. Rosalie stood there for a moment and then bounded into my room. She hugged me and the force of her hug knocked us both to the ground since I wasn't used to my legs yet. I was shocked slightly as she sat up with a silly smile on her face.

"Rose," I whispered, then felt the pain sliver across my back where I'd fallen. Oh pain, how I've missed you. "Ow."

My voice sounded strange. It didn't sound like music was playing underneath each word I said and it wasn't at all alluring. It was just naturally deep and simply normal. Everything about me was normal and average and it made me smile.

She had a shocked expression on her face as she scrambled off of me. She gave me a hand and pulled me up. She kind of staggered as she did and then grinned at me.

"Wow, this is weird and you're heavy Edward," she said. Then as an afterthought she added, "Sorry for jumping on you. I'm just so happy."

"I can tell," I said with a smirk as I dusted myself off.

"Everyone is ecstatic over this. Come downstairs." She grabbed my hand and pulled me out of my room. We made our way down and the rest of the family was in the kitchen cooking. They all looked to be enjoying themselves when Rosalie and I arrived.

As soon as we did, everyone converged on us. Esme caught me in a hug first, her tears spilling from her eyes from just seeing me. She was so choked up she couldn't even say anything. She looked older as well, not too much older than her vampire self had been, but more mature now. She also had small laugh lines around her eyes and she was still beautiful, but with a more natural look. She also had deep green eyes that sparkled with the tears being shed.

As she pulled away, I could see now that everyone had chosen to age a little. Emmett and Jasper looked older, so did Alice and now that I looked at Carlisle, I could see laugh lines around his eyes as well as he smiled at me. His eyes were a bright blue and he had some morning stubble peppering his chin. We all looked normal, just like any other family. Well all of us except for Rosalie. She was still stunningly beautiful with bright hazel eyes. Her beauty was just more subdued, but still extravagant.

"So, Edward, I feel a thank you is in order," Carlisle said as he came over and embraced me. I hugged him back.

"I didn't really do anything. We were all just blessed," I replied. Alice came over as Carlisle and I pulled apart.

"Well it doesn't matter how it happened. Let's just be glad that it did. Now c'mon and help with breakfast," she said as she grabbed my hand. She pulled me past Emmett, who clapped me on the back as I walked by him to get to the stove.

"I'm making scrambled eggs and bacon. You can watch the bacon while I finish the eggs. I hope these are good. I've been following the instructions from the recipe book I found in the library," Alice said with a grin. I rolled my eyes and smiled.

"I bet it will be, Alice," I said as I moved in front of the stove and prodded the bacon in the frying pan.

After all of the food had been cooked, more or less, we sat down to eat. It was a strange feeling to sit around the table and not be able to hear anyone's thoughts. I could tell that everyone was having some deep ones at the moment.

I realized that now that I was human I could continue with medical school. I had wanted to get my Master's degree in medicine, but had thought it pointless considering I had still looked seventeen and, if I'd tried, it would have become more and more difficult to move on with my classmates, looking exactly the same as I had the first day I'd arrived. But now, everything was open to me. I could finally become a doctor like Carlisle, I now had no reason to fear working in hospitals.

I took a bite of the food that was in front of me and my eyes rolled. I had completely forgotten how delectable food was, especially when you were hungry. It had always been slightly revolting when I had been a vampire. Watching Bella eat it had made my skin crawl, but now it was like I hadn't eaten in a century and was ravenous.

"So, Edward, tell us what happened to bring all this about. Melody didn't really tell us much," Carlisle said. I looked into his eyes and saw the genuine interest there. I swallowed before I began.

I quickly rehashed what had happened and my conversation with Melody. When I got to the part about the people upstairs, Emmett interrupted by raising his hand.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa, hold the phone. Who are, 'the people upstairs'?" he asked. I shrugged.

"I asked her the same thing, but she didn't answer me. " I continued with the story and told the others the three conditions that Melody had told me would be in effect as of now. When I finished, the room was silent as everyone processed everything I had said.

"Well it was a blessing that I believe we are all thankful for," Esme said. Everyone nodded in agreement.

I sat there and then continued to eat. I finished everything so fast that I went back and got seconds, as did Emmett and Jasper. It seemed they were just as hungry as I was. I studied them before we went back to our seats.

Emmett looked about the same, a little less burly and his cheeks had a rosy pallor to them. His eyes were also a watery blue. Jasper's eyes were a grey -like color and his face looked much more matured then Emmett's. I guessed that he'd decided to age even more than him. I wondered how old he was now.

I went back to the table and sat down. There was complete silence as everyone ate. Finally, Emmett broke the silence.

"So what is everyone going to do now?" he asked. I shrugged and Rosalie cleared her throat for attention.

"Emmett and I were discussing it this morning, and we've decided that we're going to take a world tour before we settle down and start a family. It's all I've ever wanted for the longest time, and I think now's the time for us to begin this leg of our life together." She smiled at Emmett. He grinned back at her and clasped her hand in his.

"Esme and I still aren't sure of what we will be doing, but I'm pretty sure that some children may be somewhere in the near future for us," he glanced at Esme as he spoke. Her breath caught and her eyes began to well up again. She moved over and kissed Carlisle on his cheek tenderly. He looked into her eyes intensely for a moment before he turned back to us. Their love was so raw and powerful that sometimes I felt indecent looking in on moments between them. Carlisle smiled and then turned to Alice.

"And what about you Alice? Any plans?"

"Well, Jasper and I are going to visit some friends. I'll be staying with them for the summer," she replied as she played with some food on her plate. I could tell she wasn't saying the whole truth.

"Oh, well that's fine Alice. As long as you call when you get there and keep in touch," Esme said.

"Who are you going to visit?" Rosalie asked. Alice bit her lip and then glanced at me.

"Bella," she whispered. I sighed, having had a feeling Alice was about to say that.

"Oh, how nice. You will say hello for me, won't you?" Esme asked. Alice nodded and then took her plate into the kitchen. I followed after her and she took my plate from me to wash it as I came up beside her. I stood there until she glanced up at me.

"What?" she asked.

"You know what. You're going to see Bella. . .I want to come with you," I whispered. Alice quickly shook her head.

"No," I frowned.

"What do you mean 'no' ? I can go wherever I very well please," I countered. She turned off the tap and turned to me.

"It would not be a good idea for you to just barge into Bella's life."

"Well when would be a good time?" I asked, crossing my arms.

"Never, Edward. You can't go back into her life. She's happy and you showing up would just make things complicated."

"Make what complicated? Alice, what aren't you telling me?"

"I can't say. I promised Bella that I wouldn't, so I won't. Just listen to me and don't go to Forks. It's for your own good."

And with that she left the kitchen. I watched her go and frowned. What could she possibly mean by 'it's for my own good'? Bella was all I ever wanted, all I'd ever want. I needed to get her back and I didn't care what Alice said.

I went back to the table where Esme and Carlisle were still seated. I smiled down at them as I leaned against a chair.

"Carlisle, Esme, I think I may take a trip as well. I am interested in continuing my education and getting my Masters in medicine and eventually becoming a certified doctor. I'd love to go look at the different schools to see which I'm best suited for," Carlisle smiled up at me.

"I think that is very wise, Edward. It is fine with Esme and I," he answered. I sighed in relief.

"Thank you. I'll see you later." I left, went back up to my room, and got on my computer. I searched online for all available flights to Forks. I found one that would be arriving in Port Angeles tomorrow and I was excited as I purchased the ticket. I was finally, after so long, going back to Forks.

BPOV

I rolled over in my bed and looked up at the ceiling. I smiled to myself as I lay there. It was so surreal to be back here after such a long time away. I took a deep breath and the scent of something burning hit my nostrils.

I sat up and sniffed again. Yes, something was definitely burning downstairs. I threw back the covers and jumped out of bed. I was only wearing a large Yale t-shirt and some shorts.

I rushed down the stairs as fast as I could. I could see a small trail of smoke wafting its way up the stairs. I shuttered to think what my dad could possibly have burnt and how badly he'd burnt it. I slid into the kitchen and searched for the smoke culprit.

When I got there, I noticed two things. One: my dad wasn't there, and two: Jacob was standing in front of the stove with a spatula in his hand.

"Jake!" I yelled. A wide smile spread over my face as I ran over to Jacob and jumped up into his arms.

He caught me and gave me one of his warm bone crushing hugs as I clung to him like a baby, my arms and legs wrapped around him. He laughed loudly at my enthusiasm.

At once, I looked around his shoulder and saw that the origin of the smoke was a pan of bacon that was on the stove. I quickly wriggled myself free of Jacob's arms and moved around him. I took the pan off the hot rings and then turned off the stove. I turned back to see him smiling innocently.

"What?" he asked with a grin. I laughed at him and shook my head.

"What are you doing here, Jake? Trying to burn down my house?" I asked as I walked around him to sit at the table. He smiled and took the super crispy pieces of bacon out of the pan and placed them onto a plate.

"Actually since I heard Miss Yale graduate was home, I wanted to come see her. You know she is my best friend."

I rolled my eyes at him as he smirked and put the plate of bacon on the table. He went back and opened the oven. From inside he pulled out a plate stacked high with pancakes and another plate full of scrambled eggs. He also walked those over and placed them on the table. Then he put two slices of bread into the toaster, took two clean plates out of the cupboard with two forks and brought them to the table. He handed me one plate before he sat down.

"Jake, did you make all of this by yourself?" I asked as I began to fill my plate with eggs and a fluffy pancake.

"Yup. I wanted to give you a proper homecoming. Plus I knew if I cooked all of this for you, I'd get to eat some of it." I shook my head at him as he covered his plate with five pancakes. I laughed at how comical he looked as he did so. I stood up and went to get the syrup out of the fridge.

At this point, the toast popped out of the toaster, so I grabbed it and took it back to the table. I put one slice on my plate and then tossed the other one to him. He caught it easily and put it on his plate. I took a few bites of my breakfast and was amazed at how good it was. I looked up at Jake, who was gobbling down his food with vehemence.

"Jake, when did you become Chef Ramsey?" I asked, "I thought the only thing you could cook was toast." He looked up at me and smiled.

"Ha ha, very funny." He rolled his eyes. "Leah has been teaching me. She said that she's not going to have any type of husband who can't cook for himself," he said through mouthfuls. I nodded in understanding.

"That's a good rule, especially considering how much you eat Mr. Werewolf," I said. He grinned at me. I continued to eat my breakfast and then remembered something.

"Hey Jake, where's my dad?" Jacob looked up and swallowed before he spoke.

"Oh, he had to get to work early today and he didn't want you to be all alone so he called me over."

"Ok, then why didn't you bring Leah with you?"

"She's running with some of the others this morning, just scoping out the area before your bloodsucker comes back." I scowled at him.

"You two are supposed to be friends. And I don't appreciate that type of language," I said as I continued to eat.

"Oh it's just a joke, Bella. It's like pet names to us. Alice calls me dog and I call her bloodsucker. It's all very innocent." I still couldn't stop my eyes from rolling as he said that.

"Ok, well when Alice isn't around and it's just you and me, could you not call her that?"

"Sure sure." I rolled my eyes again and that's when Jacob perked up.

"Bella, your phone is ringing," he said. I listened and could just make out the faint sound of my ringtone coming from my room. I stood up and dashed back upstairs. Thank goodness I'd outgrown my clumsiness, or all this running up and down the stairs would have sent me to the hospital. I grabbed my phone off my dresser and answered it.

"Hello?"

"Hello Miss. Graduate. How do you feel?" I frowned. This voice sounded like Alice yet. . . different.

"Alice? Is that you? You sound different. What's going on?" I asked suspiciously. She laughed.

"Oh, it's something that I'll have to tell you when I see you. But anyway answer my question" she said. I paused for a moment to wonder what she wanted to tell me & then with a smile, answered her.

"I feel good but the same. I guess it's just because I'm back home again."

"Well I'm getting ready to leave and I'm bringing Jazz with me if that's okay."

"Of course its okay. I haven't seen Jazz in a while. I bet he looks exactly the same as he did last time he came with you." I grinned at my little joke as sat down on my bed. I looked up and saw that Jacob had silently come up the stairs and was standing in the doorway of my room.

"Who is that?" he asked. I mouthed the word 'Alice'. He smiled and came over. He sat down beside me on the bed and I switched the phone from my right ear to my left so that he could speak into it with me.

"Who was that? I specifically remember that Andy wasn't supposed to be getting in until tomorrow," Alice said.

"Hey Alice," Jacob boomed into the phone which I was holding in between both of us.

"Hey Jake. What are you doing there so early in the morning?"

"Well I came to keep Bella company until you get into town. So when exactly is that again?"

"Well my flight is supposed to get there around five-thirty your time so you should be at the airport waiting for me and Jazz around then."

"Okay good. I made your reservations at the Olympic Lodge. It's the best hotel in Port Angeles."

"Good. I'm sure Jazz and I will love it," Alice said.

"Oh, so you're bringing your bloodsucker? How wonderful that will be," Jacob grumbled with a smirk.

"Yes, I am coming, Jacob. Nice to hear that you're excited," Jasper said from a slight distance away. I started laughing.

"Am I on speakerphone?" Jacob asked.

"Yup. Anyway, is Bella still around?" Alice asked.

"Yes, Alice, I'm here. So five-thirty. Jake and I will be waiting for you two at your gate."

"Oh, and get all the girls for dinner. I want to go out to celebrate everything."

"They'll love that. We should go to a restaurant in Port Angeles," I suggested.

"Yes, definitely."

"Hey, is this an all-girls thing? Or can I tag along?" Jacob piped in.

"Of course you can come, dog. Bring your fiancée with you," Alice replied.

"Alright, it's settled then. We'll see you and Jazz around five-thirty today and we'll go out to dinner after you land. Oh Alice, I'm so excited. I can't wait to see you," I said.

"Me too, Bells. Anyway, I'm going to finish packing. I'll see you soon. Bye, Bella. Bye, dog."

"Bye leech. I'll see you soon," I heard Alice chuckle.

"Bye, Alice. Bye, Jazz," I said.

"Bye," Jazz said. I shut my phone and looked at Jacob.

"Well I have a few things to get done before the day is out. I definitely have to go see how everyone is holding up at Angela's," I said as I stood up. Jacob stood up too, his tall muscular body towering over me.

"Alright. Since I also have a few things to do with the pack, I'll be back around five so that we can drive down to Port Angeles," he said.

"That's fine. But before you leave let's get our plans straight for tonight." I walked out of my room and Jacob followed.

"Ok, so we're meeting up here to drive in your new car to get Alice and Jasper at the airport," he said. I nodded, smiling as I remembered the new car my mom, Phil, and my dad had gotten me for graduation. It was a new silver Hyundai Genesis. It was an adult car and I liked it, but I still loved my old truck. They thought I'd outgrown it, but the kid in me still loved it to bits. It had history and memories that I didn't want to forget entirely.

"Yes. Then depending on where they stay, we'll take them there to freshen up and then go to dinner around. . .seven?"

Jacob thought about that as we stood at the front door. "Okay that's fine. I'll let Leah know." I smiled as he reached out and hugged me.

"I'll see you later, Bells," he said as he let me go.

"Yes, later. And keep your phone nearby, so I can call you," I said as he went out the front door.

"Sure sure."

I shook my head and watched as he made his way to the Rabbit. It was now almost fully restored. It looked practically new. I watched Jacob drive away before I shut the door and went into the kitchen. I surveyed the damage and laughed when I saw that Jacob had eaten all the food including what had been left over on my plate. I sighed and washed up all the used dishes before I made my way back upstairs.

I undressed and got into the shower. I quickly began to lather my whole body, washing my hair in the process. I hadn't gotten a chance to wash out all the hairspray and gel that had been caked into it after graduation. It was much easier to manage, though, now that it was shoulder length.

As I let the warm water hit my back, my mind began to wander back to the last time I had been in my bedroom. That had been last year.

It had been Christmas time and I was spending it with my dad. Jacob was up in my room with me, giving me my early Christmas present.

He jumped around like a little kid who'd had way too much sugar, begging for his present when he stomped his foot and broke through one of my floorboards.

"Jake, you're going to break my whole house down if you don't stop," I'd teased as I helped him pull out his foot. He laughed and bent down with me to clean up the broken pieces of wood.

"Sorry about that. I always forget my own strength," he said with a chuckle as we moved the broken pieces, leaving a board-sized hole for my dad to fix. As Jacob looked down into it, he frowned. I stared at him and then looked into the hole.

"What? See mice now?"

"No, not mice," he murmured, reaching his hand into the hole and pulling out a small stack of pictures. My breath caught as I looked at them. I rushed over and reached into the hole too. I pulled out a jewelled CD case and I stared at it. For a second I didn't believe it, but I knew what it was.

There, inside, was my CD, the one that Edward had made for me and given to me as my birthday present so long ago. But seeing this, holding it was bringing back the memories, opening up the deep jagged hole in my chest again.

I started to hyperventilate. Jacob rushed over to me. He dropped the pictures and they scattered all over the floor. Edward's perfect face stared up at me. The words of old came whispering past my ear. . .forbidden to remember, terrified to forget.

"Bella?" Jacob asked me, his voice a faint whisper in my head. He was crouched in front of me and I looked up at him. His eyes were full of worry. But I glanced around again unable to look at the pictures.

I quickly gathered it all up off the floor. I clutched them to my chest and stood up. I was like a woman possessed as I left my room with Jacob right on my heels. He followed me as I opened the front door and walked down the driveway to the metal garbage cans sitting at the curb. It was snowing and I was only in a sweater and some jeans, but I didn't care.

I opened the lid of one and threw everything into it. I turned around and went back into the house. My hair was covered in snowflakes as I came back into the kitchen and grabbed the matches from the front cupboard. Jacob was just stepping back into the house as I walked right past him back outside. He growled and then followed me out again.

I walked to the garbage can and lit a match. I opened the lid as I heard Jacob calling my name.

"Bella, stop. What are you doing?" he yelled in alarm. But I needed to do this or Edward's memory would torment me forever. I dropped the match onto the things in the garbage and it slowly began to burn. I watched it in satisfaction, my arms wrapped around myself, trying to hold myself together. I was taking deep, shaking breaths as the hole festered and then calmed down as a smiling Edward on my 18th birthday congealed into a small pile of ash.

I shook my head, pulling myself out of that memory. I took deep calming breaths now as I felt the hole simmer in pain lightly in my chest. It still existed, but it only ached now and again. The pain was bearable now. I quickly finished up in the shower and got out. I brushed my teeth and looked at what I wanted to get dressed in. In the past four years, I had picked up some semblance of style that was both mature, but still comfortable and carefree.

I looked into my suitcase, having not really unpacked that much since coming home to Forks. I pulled out a white short-sleeved blouse and my plaid, grey hooded blazer. I also grabbed my black jeans to wear with it.

I quickly blow-dried my hair, brushing it so that my natural curls would appear. It helped frame my face nicely and it lifted my hair a little off my shoulders. Volume is good, I thought as I fluffed it a bit.

I put on some square diamond studs and the tiniest touch of lip gloss. I then grabbed my black flats and my cell phone. Before I went downstairs, I slid one single ring onto my hand. I dialled Angela's number as I went down the stairs. She answered immediately.

"Hey! I've been waiting for you to call," she yelled as soon as she'd answered. I pulled the phone away from my ear slightly.

"That's good. I'm on my way over right now." I grabbed my car keys off the kitchen counter as I said this.

"Good. The others are excited to get everything started." I heard whispering in the background as I went out the front door and locked it. I ran down the driveway and got into my car.

"Okay. I'll be there in five minutes. See you."

"See you," Angela replied before she hung up. I started the car and backed out of the driveway. I looked at all the little houses that made Forks what it was as I drove to Angela's house, noticing immediately that she and my three other best friends from Yale were waiting for me at the door.

I jumped out of the car and ran over to them as soon as I had parked. The first one to meet me was Jhone. She was the same height as me, but was gifted with a wickedly curvaceous figure. She had vivid red hair that was in a pixie cut that framed her cute round face nicely and helped her bright blue eyes twinkle. Her big jacket, loose tank top and leopard print skinny pants helped to hide her curves but not entirely.

She squeezed me tightly as I hugged her. I laughed when she finally let me go so that Hyacinth could catch me in a hug as well.

Hyacinth was around the same height as Angela with long light brown hair. She had a slim face and a figure like mine, but her eyes were a soft grey that changed depending on her mood. She wasn't what you'd call a classic beauty, but she had a very attractive and alluring face. Her light brown skin, which came from her Columbian father, helped make her look very exotic.

She was the only one wearing a short jean skirt and a fitted t-shirt, both in black.

Finally she let me go as well and Mia made her way to me. She towered over me in her high-heeled boots as she hugged me. She had the most gorgeous milk chocolate complexion, and black hair was always styled in large tight curls today so it made a bouncy afro on her head. Some of them fell on my face now as we hugged. When she let go, I looked up into her hazel eyes and smiled.

She had by far the best figure out of all of us, partly because she was a trained dancer and because she was proportioned almost perfectly. The long-sleeved form-fitting cheetah dress moulded to her figure, perfectly showing off her tiny waist, curved hips, and shapely legs. It was hard to notice anyone else when she was around, but we held our own.

Mia finally let me go and all three of them dragged me into the house, Angela making the way for us. She was dressed easily in jeans, a pink tank top, and a black vest. I laughed as they all began to speak at once. I shushed them so that I could speak.

"Stop it, you four. Give me a chance to breathe," I said with a smile as we all went into the living room and sat down.

"Let's see it, Bells. You know we've all been dying to see it. I love that Andy popped the question during Christmas, but didn't give you the ring until after graduation," Mia twitted with a grin. I rolled my eyes at her.

"I asked him not to give it to me until then. I knew it would just distract me all the time."

"Stop stalling and just show it to us," Jhone demanded. I sighed and pulled out my left hand. There on my ring finger was my gorgeous 14-karat white-gold, princess cut, three stone diamond ring with its small embedding of diamonds on the band.

All the girls' eyes lit up as they stared at it in silence, obviously in awe. I hadn't even known what it had been until I'd looked it up on the internet. It was worth a little over $5000, and even though Andy hadn't told me that, I had figured it was somewhere near that price. He was immensely wealthy and could definitely afford something like that.

"Wow Bella. It's so beautiful," Angela said. I pulled back my hand and looked at it myself. It was extremely gorgeous and a little overdone, but I liked it.

"Oh my God, Bella! You're getting married in a few months. I can't believe this. I swear it was just yesterday that we all met up in first year English Lit class. Now we're all getting on with our lives. But of course Bella's the first one to get married," Hyacinth exclaimed. I rolled my eyes at her.

"Don't act like you won't be next, Hy. You know how much Sebastian adores you." She scoffed at me.

"I doubt that Sebastian will want to settle just yet. He's completely different from Andrew. Andy is a complete sweetheart while Sebastian is more wild and carefree." Hyacinth's lips pouted playfully at the words.

"I thought you liked that he was like that. You said it made him more fun to be with."

"Yeah, it does make him fun, but it doesn't make him want to get married anytime soon. And plus I don't think I want to get married just yet. I like being young and carefree right now." At this I laughed, as did the other girls.

"Well be glad that you are even still dating Andy's best friend. Before you, he was a complete player," Angela said.

"I know. I tamed him. But I'm excited to see him tomorrow when he comes with Andy," Hyacinth replied.

"Oh, whatever. We know you miss him, but don't act like you haven't liked the independent time," Mia added with an elbow nudge to Hyacinth. She rolled her eyes at Mia with a faint smile playing across her lips. This is when I remembered and decided to change the subject.

"Oh, that reminds me," I exclaimed, making everyone turn in my direction, "Alice and Jasper are coming today and they want to have a little dinner in Port Angeles after they arrive. Jake and Leah are coming as well. We're supposed to be meeting around seven for dinner. How do you guys feel about that?"

"Great. I haven't seen Jake in a while. Is he as hot as the last time we saw him?" Mia asked. I laughed.

"Yes, Mia, he is."

"He's delicious. I can't believe you let him go."

"Well, it was all for the best. We're like the best of friends now. And anyway, him and Leah have an unfathomably deep connection that you wouldn't understand," I teased. Mia stuck her tongue out at me.

"Okay, quit joking around, you two. Bella, we have to go and get our bridesmaids dresses soon. I'm glad that Alice is on her way so we can get started on it soon," Angela said.

"That's true."

"By the way, is Bianca coming with Andy and Sebastian?" Jhone asked as she picked up her phone off the living room table and began to scroll through it. Bianca was the wedding planner who Andrew and I had hired.

"No, she's supposed to be arriving in Forks a week after Andy and Sebastian."

Angela stared at all of us and sighed. I looked at her thoughtfully.

"Hey Ang, are you okay?" I asked. She looked at me intensely.

"Yes, it's just that it seems like yesterday we were starting Yale and we were roommates, Bells and now we've graduated and you're getting married. It's just so surreal," she whispered. I agreed with her, completely understanding what she meant. We all sat in silence before Jhone interrupted it.

"Okay, no more talk. Let's just spend this day together being silly, young, careless girls. C'mon, I got some really great movies for us to watch." Jhone reached for her bag and held up her dvds. We all settled onto the couch to watch the first movie Jhone had brought over.

We spent the rest of the afternoon watching movies and eating junk food. When it was time for me to go and meet Jacob, I stood up in the middle of 'She's the Man'. All four girls looked up at me.

"Sorry, girls. I'm going to meet up with Jake to pick up Alice. Don't forget we're going to dinner in Port Angeles. I'll call you after we've picked the restaurant so you guys can make your way over to us," I said. They all nodded and I gave them all a quick hug.

"I'll see you guys later."

"Later," they said. I left the house, shutting the door behind me quietly. I walked to my car and got in. As I started it, my cell began to ring. I answered it swiftly.

"Hello?"

"Bella, I'm here. Where are you?" Jacob asked.

"On the way. I'll see you in five," I answered.

"Okay, see you."

I hung up and began to focus on my driving. I pulled into my driveway in no time to see Jacob sitting on the porch steps. I stayed in the car, unlocking the passenger door as he walked over and got into the car. He shut the door behind him as I began to pull out. He felt the space around him and looked around the interior.

"This is nice," he commented. I nodded in his direction as we made our way down the highway.

"Yeah, I know. I really like it."

Jacob reached over and started fiddling with the radio and mp3 player. When he was bored with that, started turning the heat and air conditioning on and off, curiously playing with everything. I laughed at him and eventually he stopped. He looked at me.

"So are you excited to see Alice and Jasper?"

"Yes. But I noticed something. There was something different with Alice. When I asked her about it, she said she'd tell me when she saw me. So I'm ready to see what that is."

"She did sound different on the phone," Jacob agreed.

"Yeah."

We sat in silence for a while. Jacob, not liking it, turned on the radio. It played all the way to the airport.

When we finally got there, Jacob was nearly jumping out of his seat to get to the terminal. I laughed at all his pent up energy as we walked to gate three.

We looked at the large board that showed which planes were landing. I saw that the connecting flight that Alice would be on was landing and I poked Jacob's arm to get his attention.

"Jake, c'mon," I said, motioning for him to follow. We walked swiftly down the terminal to gate three and waited. We stood at the back as different people exited the plane. We waited and waited before I finally caught sight of golden blonde hair.

I saw Jacob's surprised expression as he caught sight of them, too. I frowned, not understanding.

But when their faces came into view, I turned, shocked, to see my new and improved best friend.
