"Thank God for peplum being back in style," she thought as she strolled into the office jacket still pressed to her front for further protection. She was achy today and all she wanted was a hot bath and a Netflix marathon on the couch. She had gotten her energy back and she felt like she could run a marathon but she knew the second she got on a treadmill there would be no going into work because she wouldn't even be able to walk. She sat down at her desk and got to work. A hour later, a whole wheat bagel, a cup of strawberries, a low fat yogurt and a 8 oz cup of orange juice appeared in front of her on her desk. She looked up from her papers to find Oliver standing there.
"At 14 weeks, it very important to eat healthy balanced meals, fruit is good for digestion and so is yogurt."
"What no coffee?" She scrunched her nose at him.
"Caffeine isn't good for the ba-"
"Shhh," she cut him off and looked around the room.
He leaned in and whispered. "It's not good for the baby."
"Who are you and what have you done with Oliver Queen?" I mean seriously he was acting like...like a father. She stiffened.
"Just trying to be a better friend," he said with a shrug and started to walk to his office.
"There a thing called decaf you know!" She called through the open door. He sent her a smirk through the glass as he sat down at his desk. "Just for future reference."
A carrier came through the glass door. "Hi, how can I help you?" She asked with cheerfulness. Oliver being in a good mood automatically made her spirits go up.
The delivery boy looked up. "Are you Felicity Smoak? He asked as he approached the desk yellow envelope in hand.
"Yes." He held a clipboard out to her.
"Sign here please." She signed and he handed over the envelope.
"Thank you, have a great day."
"You too," he replied as he began to leave the room.
She looked at the envelope for a second. It only had her name on it. She felt the package, it felts stiff, like thick paper. Maybe some files from another department? She thought as she opened the flap and pulled out the contents. What she saw made the blood drain from her face. There were pictures. Pictures of her and Oliver on that night. And not just any pictures. There were several of him kissing her, one of him tugging her into a cab and another one of them arriving at the mansion, Oliver kissing her in the driveway.
She jumped from her chair pressing the pictures to her chest and rushed to the elevators praying the carrier was still there. She saw him fixing to get onto the elevator. "Hey!" She called while running to him as fast as she could in heels. He turned. "Where did you get these?" She shook them in his face.
"I'm just the delivery boy ma'am."
"Who had you deliver these?" She questioned him, her face accusatory.
"I don't know. It was placed in the drop box along with directions and cash. I just do my job lady," the boy answered.
She stared him down looking for any signs he was deceiving her. "Can I go now? I have other delivery's to make."
"Fine go," She made her way to her desk pictures pressed to her chest.
"Everything okay?" Oliver asked. "I saw you run out of the room. Are you sick again?"
"Yeah," she choked out, he started towards her. "I mean no, no I'm not sick. I think I'm past that even though anytime I smell a banana I want to barf but that could just be me," she babbled while walking backwards over to her desk.
"You sure?"
"Absolutely." She popped a strawberry in her mouth for emphasis. "I'm going to eat now."
"Okay...well if you need something, I'm just in here." He pointed to the desk.
"Oliver it's a glass wall. If I decide to pass out you'll see it happen." Wrong thing to say. He started forward again and she shoved the pictures into a drawer.
"I'm not going to pass out for petes sake. Shew," she said while waving some papers at him. "My yogurts getting...hot. Which would deffinitely make me throw up. There's just something about the texture of yogurt anyway then you add it being hot? Eww.." She shuttered. "Once I threw up yogurt in high school. I had it for lunch and then we had gym. Who has gym after lunch? Anyways I threw up all over the track and the class called me Farfy for a month." She cursed under her breath. "I did it again. Sorry."
Sometime during her babble Oliver had sat in the chair in front of her desk. She shook his head. "No, I like to hear your stories. You don't really share a lot about you're past."
"That's the pot calling the kettle black." She smiled and so did he.
"I know...and I'm trying to get better about that."
"Well if you liked my Farfy story you'd like most of my high school years."
"I wish I could've seen you then."
"Oh no, I looked awful."
"You? No way."
"Yes me,"
"How bad could you have been? You're blond Felicity."
"I told you I died it." She hesitated a moment. "I was goth." His eyebrows rose and his mouth hung open for a second before it snapped closed.
"You? Goth. I don't believe it."
"Believe it. I wore so much dark eyeliner I looked like a raccoon, purple lips, jet black hair, the whole shebang. I even had a nose ring." His face was filled with disbelief. He got up and walked around her desk. "What are you doing?" He search her face.
"Looking for a sign you ever had a nose ring." His hand came up to take her chin as he turned her head from side to side. She slapped his hands away playfully.
"Stop, it's been five years, besides it was a really small one. I took it out after Coop-" She cut off. Cleared her throat and turned back to her computer. She would not talk about Cooper. Shame seeped into her. He went to jail because of the super virus she had made and she lived with the guilt everyday that she was the reason he had killed himself in prison. 'Stupid pregnancy hormones' she thought to herself as a tear slipped down her cheek and she moved to wipe it away. But Oliver had beat her too it. He crouched down next to her desk.
"Felicity. Hey look at me." She turned tear filled eyes down to look at him. "I told you a year ago that you could tell me about your day, that offer extends past that. You can tell me about anything. I have no room to judge." She nodded and whispered her thanks. He got up and started walking back to his desk before he turned to look at her again. "Whatever you went through Felicity...just know that it made you into the person you are today...and you know how I feel about her." He stared at he for a beet before returning to his office leaving her staring until the phone rang interrupting her torturous thoughts.
It wasn't until the end of the day she remembered the pictures. Who could have taken them? Paparazzi? No they would have been splashed all over the tabloids if that were the case. Was it Isabel? No, she wouldn't stoop to that. Plus she barely even knew them then. She decided to do a little investigating herself but never got the chance. The photos sat in a locked drawer in her house while they stopped Ben Turner, aka Bronze Tiger...again. He was trying to sell a prototype of the earthquake machine to the highest bidder but with Roy's help they managed to stop him and just in time too. But Oliver had had to reveal himself to get him to help stop the machine from detonating. Now Roy was in on the secret. She was kind of excited to add another member to team arrow. If it meant Oliver and Digg had more backup to help keep them safe then she was happy to except just about anyone. Provisionally of course and not any League members, except Sara. She was okay.
Roy and Oliver descended the stairs. "How many people know who you are?"
"Too many. But these are the only two that matter," he replied. She and Diggle made their way across the room. She smiled at Roy conveying her happiness at his addition to the team. "John Diggle and Felicity Smoak." She smiled wider at the way Oliver dragged her name out like it was his favorite word.
"Does this this group have a name? Like "Team Arrow" or something?"
Oliver bristled. "We don't call ourselves that."
She shrugged. "I do, occasionally." He looked at her firmly but she could see a twinkle in his eye when he told her to stop.
Diggle held his hand out. "It's nice to officially meet you Roy." They shook hands firmly summing each other up as only men do.
She held her hand out as well. "Welcome to the team," she said as he looked down to take her hand.
"Whoa you're pr-" Oliver and Diggle cleared their throats loudly and Digg made a slashing motion at his throat. She turned to him and gave him her best evil eye which according to him couldn't scare a rabbit. She turned back to Roy who's hand was still in hers.
"If you're going to be on this team too we might as well acknowledge it. Yes, I am pregnant, yes in a few months I will rival a baby whale in size...so now that that's out in the open." She released his hand. "I'm a valuable member of this team and my condition doesn't change that."
Roy turned to Oliver. "How do you feel about that?"
"It's her life," he glanced at her. "It's her choice."
"Wow, that surprising."
"Why's that?" He asked.
"Well I just thought since it's your baby and all..."
"What?" Oliver said at the time Felicity said "No." He looked between them.
"Oh, sorry I just assumed. You guys have a freaky amount of chemistry going on. You're like magnets." He turned to Felicity, "You move he moves, he moves you move, it's creepy actually and I've only been here five minutes." Felicity eyes had widened to the point she was sure they were going to pop right out of her head. Oliver just stood there with his jaw slack.
Diggle guffawed and threw his arm around Roy's shoulders. "I'm like you already." He led him across the foundry leaving her and Oliver standing there. She looked at him for a moment and he looked anywhere but her eyes. You could cut the tension with a knife, "I'm just gonna," she pointed her thumb in the direction of her computers.
"Yeah, I'm going to..." He trailed off finally looking at her with a look of such longing, it psychically made her chest ache. She blinked and it was gone. He left to go sharpen his arrows and she went to her computers. It was a quiet night after that.
(((Arrow)))
He stood in the quiet foundry holding the silver earring up to the light, Roy's words from earlier running through his mind.
"Well I just thought since it's your baby and all.."
It wasn't possible. The baby was not his. It couldn't be. He didn't deserve to be a father, not with the life he lived. He did not sleep with Felicity. He would have remembered that. He thought about the kiss they had shared weeks ago. His body heated and a pang shot through his chest, his stomach tightened with want. If he had that kind of reaction from one kiss? Well there was just no way he would forget being with her.
But what if it all was true?
He thought over the evidence. He had been at the bar, the last thing he remembered was sitting there alone drinking. Then he woke up alone. He did some math, somewhere around that time Felicity had gotten pregnant. The evidence was overwhelming but he wouldn't allow himself to believe it. She would tell him,he wouldn't have forgotten, she wouldn't have left him. But would she? If she was scared? Had she been drugged too? Had she kept a secret from him afraid of how he would react?
He held his head in his hand and put every bit of energy he had into trying to remember. Anything that would give him some proof. But all he got was blurry pictures of blonde hair and red lips and a imagination full of Felicity. He tossed and turned on his cot, he felt wound up and after an hour of sleep avoiding him he threw his pillow across the room, got up, dressed and went out on another patrol. Anything to keep his mind from playing what he thought had been hallucinations of Felicity over and over. It didn't work.
When he came back to the foundry later Felicity and Diggle were sitting at her desk and staring at her computer intently. He watched them silently for a few moments before Felicity groaned loudly and Diggle shouted. "TURN IT OFF!" She made a grab for the mouse blindly, her hands covering her face. "Hurry!"
"I'm trying," she said and finally whatever they were watching was no longer on the screen.
"Just why in the he-"
"Baby ears Digg!"
"Sorry, why would you make me watch that?" She put her hands on her hips and he couldn't help but smile at her.
"I didn't know! It was just supposed to be a learning documentary about a baby's growth. I didn't expect to see a live birth and I certainly wouldn't have watched it with you if I had!" Digg shuttered and Felicity stood up and started pacing. They still didn't know he was here yet. "I'm not cut out for this. Do you think they're all like that?"
"That's a question for your doctor, not for me. But if they are...well lets just say you're not going to be into work for a while. Or anywhere for that matter."
"Digg!" She yelled at him but she was laughing at the same time. She picked his pillow up off the floor and threw it at Diggle. He finally walked forward and set his bow back in his case.
"What are you guys doing?"
"Nothing," Felicity said the same time that Diggle groaned. Pointed his thumb at her. "She made me watch a documentary on baby growth. I'm permanently scarred."
"I guess that means you don't want to go to Lamaze class with me?"
He shook his head vehemently. "No way, It's Oliver's turn. I've paid my time."
She just sighed and shook her head. "Guess I'll just be going alone," she muttered as she picked up his pillow and went to lay it back on the cot. She looked down and her eyes scrunched together. "Hey," she said as she picked up something off his bed. "My earring!" She exclaimed. "I thought I had lost this. I was wearing it the night-" she cut off her mouth snapping closed. She whipped her head around and walked back over to her chair and started typing frantically. Why was she acting so strange? And then it registered in his mind. Oh. OH! Holy-
"Felicity?" He asked a hint of panic filling his voice without his permission. Diggle sent him a look and high tailed it out of the room. If that didn't confirm it nothing did. She just kept typing. "Felicity, look at me. Please look at me," he pleaded. She turned slowly in her chair raising her eyes to his. "It was you...wasn't it?" He whispered. She nodded. He ran his hand through his hair and paced the room. It hit him like a ton of bricks. He turned to look at her, "That means-" again she nodded solemnly. He started pacing.
"Oliver," she whimpered.
"Just give me a minute," he said as he dropped his weight into the chair across the room from hers, his head in his hands. He heard a shuffle, then footsteps and soon Felicity was there touching his shoulder.
"Oliver please talk to me. If you don't I'm going to have a panic attack." He put his hands down and looked at her.
"Why?" His voice broke. Tears rolled down her face and her hand moved to her stomach. "Why didn't you tell me?" How could she not tell him? That was his baby she was carrying and she wasn't even going to tell him!
"You were drugged."
"I had a right to know!" He screamed.
"I was a mistake. I wasn't going to let myself be something else you felt guilty for. I left...because I was afraid. At the time I just thought you were really drunk. I was afraid that you'd wake up and you'd tell me it was a mistake. I couldn't hear you say that."
His eyes glistened and he didn't try to hide it. "You could never be a mistake."
"Oliver, if you would have woke up that morning with me there..you wouldn't have seen it that way.."
"You left me Felicity. I woke up all alone with a hole in my chest. I've spent months wondering who the woman was and all along she was standing in front of me. Why'd you leave me? Was I a mistake to you?"
"No Oliver. Never."
"Then why didn't you tell me?" He said as he stood from his chair.
"What was I supposed to do Oliver? You woke up and the first thing I hear from you is "I think I was drugged." Should I have said 'Oh by the way, you slept with me last night, sorry you don't remember what was the greatest night of my life but hey just thought you should know.' I couldn't do that to you."
'Was the greatest night of my life.' her words echoed in his head. He wanted to remember so badly he considered hitting his head against the pillar to knock the memories loose. They had done so well together they had made a baby, and he couldn't even remember. He felt his chest tighten. This was real torture.
"What about when you found out about the baby? Did it even cross your mind to tell me that I was going to be a father?!"
"You didn't want to be!" She screamed.
"What?" he said taking a step back.
"The night the Count took me. After you saved me, I could see it in your eyes. You had given up trying to live, then the other day in the office you told me you had wanted to be a father someday but the island changed that. You told me that dream was impossible for you." She wrapped her arms around herself. "Do you know how hard it's been to keep this from you? It been unbearable. Seeing you everyday and knowing. I was going to tell you-"
"When? At the kids fifth birthday party? Did you really think you could raise my child around me and I wouldn't find out eventually?"
"I haven't exactly been thinking straight. Do you know what I did after you told me you could never have a family?" She paused for a moment looking into his eyes. "I went to my car and cried. Harder than I ever have. For what you couldn't have. My Dad left me Oliver. I wasn't going to give you the chance to walk out on our child."
"I would never do that!"
"Wouldn't you?" He was shocked. Felicity thought he would just leave her? Abandon their child? "Oliver, you are the most unselfish, self sacrificing, caring man I've ever known. You don't want me to live this life, you told me you hoped everyday that I would decide to leave it and the danger behind. Imagine what you would have done if you'd known about this baby? You would have sent me far away, from you and the danger you think you'd inflict." She walked up to him and put her hands on his arms. "Oliver. I know you'd never abandon us because you wanted to, but you would if you thought it would protect us. I couldn't let you do that." More tears slipped down her cheeks. He realized his cheeks were wet too."You, this," she gestured to foundry. "This is my life now. The day I met you changed my life forever and there's no going back. I can't lose you Oliver."
He wrapped her in his arms and whispered into her hair. "How many times do I have to tell you Felicity? You're never going to lose me." He pulled back after a long moment. "But you're right about one thing. I would have sent you far away. Felicity this life is dangerous, my enemies, and the Arrow's will use you to get to me. I can't let anything happen to you...either of you."
"It's my life-"
"You're choice, I know. But it's not just your life anymore. It's our babies too."
"I'm not leaving Oliver."
"Felicity-" She pulled out of his arms.
"There's only one way you'll make me leave Starling." She stared straight into his eyes. "Tell me you don't want me or this baby. Tell me you don't care about me at all. Tell me that this isn't what you want." He closed his eyes. That was impossible. He could never lie to her and he wasn't going to start now.
"I can't do that," he choked out through his achy throat.
"That's settles it then. I'm staying here. I don't expect anything from you, I'm giving you an out." He looked at her shocked.
"I don't want an out," he ground out.
"You didn't plan on-"
"FELICITY! I don't want a freaking out!" A a rapid stream of Russian flowed from his mouth he knew she couldn't understand.
"Ты моя , я люблю тебя и нет никакого способа, вы можете избавиться от меня. Ни сейчас, ни когда-либо. Так что не смей пытаться дать мне, потому что я хочу этого, я хочу этого ребенка, я хочу тебя, все вы. Я знаю, что ты не готов это услышать, но пока я люблю тебя, и однажды, вскоре я покажу вам, как много."
"You are mine and there's no way you can get rid of me. Not now, not ever. So don't you dare try to give me an out because I want this, I want this baby, I want you, all of you. I know you're not ready to hear it yet but I love you and one day soon I will show you just how much."
(((Arrow)))
Felicity swallowed. She didn't understand Russian but she knew desperation when she saw it and Oliver was desperate. He took a deep breath and turned back to her his emotions under control. "That is my baby, our baby. I know what I said. But that was before...then I didn't even think this, a life, was a possibility. I couldn't even imagine being a Father but now it's happening and there's nothing you can do or say that will keep me from being apart of your lives." He breathed in through his nose and placed his palm against her cheek.
"I need you to promise me something," he begged her.
"Anything," she breathed.
"Promise me, promise me I won't lose you."
Logically she knew she couldn't make that promise. There were too many unknown variables in their lives... but she could see it in his eyes, he needed it, needed to know that she would do everything in her power to stay alive for him, for their baby. She nodded. "I promise."
But in the end did promises ever really matter...if you couldn't keep them?
