Chapter 8

Yes you two. Please continue to glare at each other in hate while we wait for assassins to come and kill us.
Danny committed to the two heroes glaring at each other as they guarded Roquette at their new positions.

They had moved to the docks where some restaurants were close by and were in a building with less entrances then what the high school had making it easier to guard the doctor. Artemis, Kid Flash and Danny were inside guarding Roquette while Aqualad guarded outside and Miss. Martian patrolled the area.
Danny was hoping his plan would work but having two heroes glare at each other and not watching the entrance was not keeping his hopes up.

Artemis rolled her eyes and looked away from Kid Flash as she walked away from them to guard the back. Kid Flash just glared at the back of her head and Danny smacked him on the back of his head.
Hey! What was that for!? Kid Flash asked as he rubbed the now sore part of his head.

Danny crossed his arms.
You two haven't stopped glaring or fighting each other all night. It's starting to get annoying.

That was a lie. It had been annoying since the beginning of the whole mission and it was only now starting to get on Danny's nerves.

Kid Flash just frowned and crossed his arms looking away from the Halfa.

It's not my fault she's so irritable! He said in his defense.

Well I wouldn't be if you weren't so dame annoying! The archer yelled; she turned around and glared at Kid Flash.
A tick mark appeared on Kid Flash and Danny just sighed. The speedster was going to retort back but didn't as he was interrupted when the doors to the building where kicked opened and a assassin came in with a flip.

The new assassin wore a dark purple spandex costume with his face being covered by the same material. On the joints of the suit and the chest it was black; the spider symbol on his forehead was also black while his eyes were gold-orange.

Kid Flash reacted quickly and charged at the spider like assassin and Danny was going help but didn't as he heard a crash from behind him. He looked behind him to see yet another assassin land on the floor as he crashed through the roof.

This assassin wore no mask so you could clearly see his white hair much like Danny's and his brown eyes and face set in a blank and serious monotone expression. He wore blue jeans and bandages around his hands and torso with a dark green jacket. The most threatening thing about this assassin was the large hook on his right hand.

Artemis fired her arrows at the newcomer who barrel rolled out of the way and hid behind some benches that the building had. Danny decided to go help Kid Flash, seeing that the spider assassin was more of the immediate threat and quickly fired his ectoblasts at the assassin taking the role of long range in order to stay near Roquette.

Who are these assassins? Danny questioned.

They're Hook and Black Spider; assassin who are probably here to help Cheshire. There part of the League of Shadows. Artimes explained as she continued to fire at the assassin know as Hook.

Danny was curious about this League of Shadows and wanted to ask Artimes how she knew this but didn't as he made a shield around the doctor as an arrow hit it.

He then threw an ectoblast at Cheshire who was up on the window ceil. She jumped down, dodging the blow and tackled Danny who was cut off guard.

"Uff!" Danny grunted as the wind was knocked out of him from the sudden attack.

Cheshire pulled out a sai and tried to stab Danny with it but he just went intangible as it went through his head.
"You know, it's rude to put weapons in a guy's head," he said with a smirk.
Cheshire growled in irritation as she quickly moved away from the Halfa in order to gain some distance while she tried to think of an attack that would work on him. Danny however flew at her trying to hit her but she expertly dogged or blocked his attacks.
Danny couldn't see it because of her mask but she smirked; she moved out of the way just in time as Artemis flew straight into him from the other's assassin's attack with the hook. This caused his concentration on the shield to falter which caused it to disappear.

Roquette saw she was now endanger so she tried to flee but was stopped as Cheshire tackled her making her crash into the ground. She raised her weapon and was about to stab Roquette but stopped as Roquette's head did a 180 (yeah, because that's not creepy) and a smirk was on her lips. Her skin also turned greened indicating that she was not Roquette but Miss. Martian.

Cheshire jolted back in surprised.

"We've been ducked!" She growled out.

Danny laughed.

"Seems my plan worked!" he said in triumph.

"Looks like that," Kid Flash said committed as he dodged Black Spider.

Cheshire glared at the teens and Miss. Martian flew up and away from the assassin.
"You'll never find her!" The Martian yelled.
"But never is such a long time," Cheshire said teasingly, then glared at her. "I'm pursuing the target, keep them busy."
Cheshire then ran out the building after she gave her orders. Artemis was the first to react and quickly ran after the assassins.

"I'm going after her; keep the rest busy!" She ordered the other heroes.

"Hey, don't take her on your own!" Danny yelled concerned for the archer while Kid Flash just yelled at her with annoyance then concern.

Before either of them could go after the two, they both were attack by the other two assassins.
"Crap!" Danny swore as he was hit hard by the iron hook and was sent flying into the wall.

"Ugh," the Halfa groaned.
"Danny!" Miss. Martian yelled at him in concern.

Danny smiled. "Seems like this duplicate's time is up, good luck you two."

With that said the duplicate of Danny Phantom disintegration in a puff of green smoke.

Danny blinked and turned away from watching Roquette work.

"Aqualad, my duplicate is destroyed and Artemis went after Cheshire," Danny informed the Atlantin.

Aqualad didn't show if he was worry or not but he brought out his water blades just as he heard thumps on the roof.

"We have company," he stated.

Danny got an ectoblast ready. "Is it done doc?"

Roquette smiled and continued to type.

"Just finished and uploading it now," she reported and then frowned. "And by the way you said you would protect me!"

Danny almost rolled his eyes at her comment but stopped as a smoke bomb came in through the door and went off.

They all looked toward the door but a sudden flash of heat went through Danny; realizing it was a warning Danny spun around and looked up to see part of the roof removed.

Danny quickly moved Roquette back as Aqualad blocked the attack, darts landing on his chest; he went back a few steps from the sudden impact.

Cheshire jumped down and narrowed her eyes at the three.

"How about we test that immunity of yours?" Cheshire teased.

Aqualad glared at her knowing that he was injected with more poison. Even though he knew this he still charged the assassin and slashed his water blade down. She side-stepped and kicked him down; he landed hard on his back hitting his head on the ground knocking him out.

"Hmmm. Immunity tested," Cheshire said unimpressed. She turned her attention to Danny who was now away from Roquette, only a couple of feet in front of her, looking ready to fight. Cheshire got into a fighting pose and smirked at the ghost boy.

"Let's see if you can do better."

Danny got into his own fighting pose. "Oh, I know I can."

With that said, Cheshire made the first move going straight at him. Danny charged too, making sure their fight would be farther away from Roqquet so she would not be in danger. Before they clashed, Danny side-stepped out of the way and attacked her side which was easily blocked by the assassin. He didn't stop though and attacked her relentlessly. All he had to do was stall Cheshire as the virus uploaded, if he could keep her distracted for that long then they would win…Unless Cheshire still wanted to kill the good doctor even if they won.

Unfortunately our hero got a little too cocky once he knocked the assassin down but she grabbed his legs with her own and twisted them causing him to fall. He hit his head hard on impact making him momentarily dazed; it gave Cheshire enough time to elbow him in the head knocking him out.

Cheshire smiled behind her mask, satisfied that she took out the other hero. She heard and have seen on the news of Danny's accomplishments in Amity Park but from what she heard was that this boy was a solo hero along with being a fugitive but Phantom's loyalties of being good or bad were always mixed up. Though most say he's a hero and Cheshire could definitely say he was; he did have that stubborn and cocky attitude of hero. But none of this mattered; right now she had a job to do.

She looked out of the corner of her eye at Roquette and fully looked at her as she turned around and walked toward her. Roquette backed up against the wall as Cheshire stalked forward to her. As she got closer Cheshire noticed how Roquette was indeed scared but she was smirking a little and her eye's held the look of triumph. Like she knew something Cheshire did not know yet.

Cheshire's eyes widen and looked over to the computer. It was blinking showing that the upload was completed, Cheshire had failed her mission. She quickly went over to Roquette and grabbed the front of her shirt as she picked her up, just because Cheshire failed her mission it didn't mean she couldn't scare the doc before she left.

"It seems you finished the viruses. Saving you from elimination." She pulled her sai up, placing it near Roquette's face. "Though not the entertainment value."

She dropped Roquette letting her land on her behind hard. She pointed the knife at her as she glared.

"You're lucky my order were specific not to kill if this happen. Be glad you get to live another day, after all the Shadows may have use for you again," Cheshire said menacingly, making sure the doctor was scared. With that the assassin left the building.

"Phantom." Danny could hear his voice being called but he was too busy enjoying sleep to wake up.

"Phantom wake up." The voice tried again and Danny was a little annoyed as he felt himself being shaken. He swatted at the hand and rolled over.

"Five more minutes," he mumbled.

"Phantom, GET UP!" The voice shouted.

Danny bolted up thinking someone was in danger and looked around.

"What!? Where's the danger?" He said as he looked around.

A sigh was heard and Danny turned to see Aqualad sighing in relief as he was sitting by the ghost boy.

"This is no time to nap," Roquette said; she was on the other side of Danny and was giving him a slight glare. He gave both of them a sheepish smile.

"Sorry, I was knocked out pretty hard," Danny said.

Aqualad shook his head. "Do not apologize she got me as well."

Aqualad tried standing up but almost toppled over luckily Danny quickly got up and supported him.

"You okay?" He asked.

"I will be fine…The poison is only now…starting to affect me. I just need some rest," the Atlantin explained.

Danny nodded understanding and pulled one of Aqualad's arms and placed it over his shoulder; supporting the aquatic hero.

"We should see if the others are okay," Danny said which Aqualad only nodded in agreement.

The three left the little internet café and saw Artimes nearby. Aqualad looked at her.

"Artimes...Where is...The assassin?" He questioned a little winded from the poison though.

Artimes did not look at him as she answered. "She…She got away."

Kid Flash came just in time to hear her answer.

"Ohhh, she got away from you, really? What a surprise; did you notice how we got ours?" He said all too smugly as Miss. Martian came floating down while holding the two tied up assassins with her telekinesis. Artimes just walked away from him and faced away from the group.

Danny felt a tick mark. Kid Flash didn't need to rub it in that he got his assassin; he was pretty much rubbing salt in a wound of Artimes injured pride... Well he thought pried though Artimes looked upset about something else.

Aqualad told Danny he didn't need to support him anymore so Danny let go and followed Roquette and Aqualad.

Kid Flash was smiling smugly, totally enjoying his victory in catching a bad guy unlike a certain archer. His attention quickly diverted to something else though; Cheshire's mask on the ground.

"Cool souvenir!" He said as he picked it up. Aqualad recognized the mask to be Cheshire's and spoke to Artimes as he pulled out the darts that was still on his chest.

"Her face? Did you see it?" Aqualad questioned.

Artimes still had her back from the group as her answer. "It was too dark, I couldn't see anything."

"It is fine, Robin and Superboy have informed us that the Fog has been neutralized and Roquette is safe. Thanks to no small part to you," he said.

This got the archer's attention to turn around and face them finally. Danny felt a tick mark appear realizing he wasn't getting any credit and was just about to speak out his compliant but Aqualad cut him off.

"And thank you Phantom for helping us," Aqualad thanked him.

Danny smiled. "No problem I was happy to help. A little annoyed with getting a bruise on my head but hey, still happy I helped you guys."

Aqualad smiled and looked at the others who all seemed to be having a silent conversation without the mind-link. The Atlantin faced Danny again.

"Phantom, Artimes here is just joining our team and we still have room for more to join us."

Danny's eyes widen slightly. Was he going say what Danny was thinking he was going say?

"Phantom, would you like to join the team?" Aqualad asked. He stuck out his hand offering a handshake in this case for a new comrade.

Yup, he said it. He offered Danny to join the team.

Danny was quiet as he thought about the offer. Three things could happen here if he chose to accept or not. One: He would probably get to go on cool adventures and improve his fighting abilities, after all he couldn't really improve them since most of his enemies did the same old thing. Plus there was a chance he meet the Justice League! Tucker would be so jealous if he did. On the other hand he would have more on his plate; he would have to protect the town, go to school and keep his grades up and go on missions with these sidekicks and that could drain him causing him to do worse in school with all this extra stuff he would do. Then lastly he had no idea how Ex would be taking this if he accepted.

Ex did explain how there was a good chance of them finding out Danny had a demon in him and it would be harder for him to warn Danny about attacks or where people were while the was around, those early flashes of heat Danny felt from Ex was probably a risk Ex was taking on his part.

Though the plus side of this if he accept would be he wouldn't be hearing Ex randomly talking in his head distracting him or annoying him…Yup, he was going to accept.

Danny took Aqualad's hand and shook it a grin plastered on his face.

"Sure, I'll join you guys," Danny said.

Aqualad smiled at him and Artimes. "I welcome the both of you to the team then."

The next morning was much more relaxing…Or would be if Dani stopped drilling him with questions about the young heroes he worked with and if Ex stopped complaining about him ruining his life.

Danny laid his head on the table and groaned.

"Daaaaaannnnniiiiii, stop bothering me with questions. Do you how long I stayed up just get all my homework done?" Danny complained.

Dani rolled her eyes and ate another spoonful of cereal. Her, Danny and Vlad were all eating at the dining table for breakfast which they usually did on the weekends, it was Vlad's idea in order for all of them to get closer. Even though they've been eating breakfast together for a month now, Danny was still not used to it.

Vlad was reading his newspaper as he listened to the two younger Halfas spoke and soon got in on their conversation.

"I'm surprised you chose to accept their offer in joining them. Your plate is already full with all the school work you need to catch up on and this just adds to your hero workload," Vlad voiced out his thoughts and turned the page of his newspaper.

Danny shrugged as he ate some cereal and swallowed.

"Well I thought it would be a good way for me to train with the professionals in order to improve," Danny explained.

Vlad looked insulted.

"I've been offering to teach you a few things while you have been here Daniel. You could have come to me."

Danny shrugged. "Well, I forgot your offer."

Vlad just gave him a dirty look and went back to reading while mumbling.

Dani eat some more cereal and looked to Danny while she spoke with food in her mouth.

"Whav Ex thuvt ovf this?" She spoke out but was a little hard to understand with all that food.

Vlad gave her a slight glare "Don't talk with food in your mouth Danielle."

Dani swallowed and glared slightly back at him while mocking what he said in a mock voice of his.

Danny frowned as Ex spoke in his head.

Well I'll tell you how I feel little ghost. I feel as though I lost some freedom SINCE I can't speak to Danny while were around people who like to talk to each other in their heads! I can't annoy Ghosty anymore while there around or rant about other people I don't like behind their backs! Ex ranted in Danny's head, much to Danny's dismay.

Dani and Vlad could instantly tell Ex was being annoying again.

"I'm guessing our demon friend isn't happy," Dani committed.

"Nope," Danny stated. He rubbed his temples. "He wouldn't stop ranting as soon as I got away from the team. He kept going throughout the night about me not thinking about his feelings before I accepted."

Vlad hummed in thought. "I would think he's more worried about you then his own feelings."

What he said made Danny confused.

"Why? It's not like I signed myself up to be experimented on."

"Yes, but you did sign up to be with a group of sidekicks whose mentors are powerful people. What if they found out about you-know-who?" Vlad asked with concern

Danny frowned. He didn't really think about that; what if the Justice League did find out about Dan? Would they try to put him in prison for a crime he hadn't done yet, or more like he hoped he never do? There was the risk his secret would be find out sooner, after all Robin was on that team and if Robin was there then Batman was most likely to be near in one way or another.

That could be trouble for Danny; Batman was well known for his detective skills and he was most likely to do a background check on Danny or more like for Danny Phantom once he learned Aqualad offered Danny to join.

Danny sighed at the thought of the risk but smiled.

"Well I guess I'll have to be careful then," Danny said.

Vlad gave Danny a worried look along with a frown.

"You better be, Daniel," he stated and went back to reading.

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! I finished another chapter! I hope all of you reading this are so far entertained and are enjoying the story. As you can see, Danny's plan was just to have Miss. Martian take Roquette's form after finding out she could do that. I didn't write that in though. In a week it will be Spring Break and I'll be totally focused on this story….Maybe.
