A/N: Hey :D
For some reason, even though I have mountains of homework piling up, I was itching to write this and update. So… HERE IT IS ^.^
I'm so proud, I've already planned out the next few chapters :) Real Life will last maybe another two chapters before I go back to photo shoots. So if you hate all this, like not really angst but not really humor, stuff I'm posting you just have to bear the next two-or so- chapters!
I hope you enjoy!
I own nothing (=^.^=)
Previously (on Grey's Anatomy… XD Sorry, couldn't help myself ^.^)
"We are having coffee here, like the good friends we are, so play nice."
"Mom? What's wrong?"
"Annabeth, I need you home. Your father just had a major stroke."
"Annabeth, are you okay? What's wrong?"
"Will you drive me somewhere?"
Real Life-Chapter 2
Annabeth's POV
"Annabeth?" Percy asks softly, "We're here."
I blink rapidly and shake my head. My parent's house sits in a comfortable urban neighborhood, stereotypical white picket fence and green lawn, blue skies and laughing children. But something didn't seem right, as if somehow everything had been dulled.
My feet hit the driveway and I begin walking towards the front door. Percy follows me silently. My hands shake as I try and unlock the door. Percy takes the keys from me gently and works the lock. I turn and stare at him. He looks at me and raises an eyebrow, but I don't care because until two seconds ago I wasn't sure Percy was in possession of a heart.
Finally, I pull my eyes away and shuffle into the living room. It's small, but cozy, with only a carpeted floor, sofa and TV. My baby sister, Carrie's, toys lie scattered all over the place and I turn to Percy and say.
"Wait here, I'm going to go get Carrie." He nods and carefully picks his way to sit on the couch. Carrie's room is just down the hall from the living room and I push the door open gently. She lies on her bed; sleeping and looking like an angel surrounded by stuffed animals and overstuffed pillows. Carrie's amazing, and I love her to pieces, but a little warning about my sister; she's high maintenance.
I walk over and gently shake her awake.
"Carrie?" I say helping her sit up.
"Annabeth?" She says, blinking at me sleepily and smiles, "What are you doing here?"
"Watching you until Jessica and dad get back," I explain and pick her up, "Come on baby, I want you to meet someone."
Percy's sitting on the floor with his back resting against the sofa, playing with Carrie's dominoes. Figures.
Carrie literally jumps out of my arms and hurries over to Percy.
"Hi!" she squeals, "I'm Carrie and I think you're really handsome!" Percy looks up from what he's doing and grins at Carrie, then smirks at me. I groan inwardly. He is never going to let go of that.
"I'm Percy, Annabeth's friend," He says pulling her into his lap, "Do you really think I'm handsome?
Carrie nods eagerly, "Like a prince!" she exclaims throwing her arms around Percy then whispers loud enough for me to hear her, "Are you Annabeth's prince?"
I blink and open my mouth but, Percy wraps his arms around Carrie and looks up at me.
"I am," he agrees, winking at me. I sigh tiredly I turn towards the kitchen.
"Are you hungry baby? Would you like something to drink?" I ask looking back at Carrie.
"Yes please!" Carrie and Percy say in complete unison. Carrie squeals happily. Jumping up and down and clapping her hands.
"Annabeth calls you baby too?" she asks.
"No, I-" I begin but Percy-bless his soul-interrupts me again.
"Of course, I'm her prince, she can call me whatever she wants," he says. Carrie giggles and plops down next to Percy. He looks up and gives me a naughty smile.
"Carrie," I say through gritted teeth, "Would you like something to drink?"
"Milk," Carrie and Percy say echo and I roll my eyes as Carrier shrieks again. I shake my head and just trudge towards the kitchen.
While I'm pouring Carrie and Percy's milk, I check my phone for any new texts. Instead of one from my mom, which I wanted, I read a text from Thalia.
Thalia Grace: hey! Where did u and percy sneak off 2?
I scoff then reply,
Me: we didn't sneak off. i needed i ride home asap and he had a car
The reply is almost immediate.
Thalia: HE'S AT UR HOUSE?!
I groan, of course she would ask that.
Me: my dad was hospitalized, and i needed to get home really fast
Thalia: y?
Me: major stroke :'(
Thalia: is he okay?
Me: idk yet. i hope so.
Thalia: I'm sorry… chin up babe .
Me: thxs XD
I smile into my phone then stuff it back into my pocket. I grab the two glasses and head back to the living room.
"Thanks Annabeth!" Carrie giggles and immediately drowns, like, half of her drink. Percy looks up from their game of stacking dominoes.
"Thank you baby," he says and takes a drink of his.
"Would you stop that?" I say sitting down on the couch. Carrie begins playing with her Barbie, combing her hair with the crappy plastic brush and changing her clothes.
"Stop what?" Percy asks innocently, looking up at me though his eyelashes from his seat on the floor. He looks so natural sitting there, his back against the sofa with one of his legs propped up that I have the sudden urge to draw him.
I blink, "You know what," I manage. He grins at me, something that's beginning to grow on me and before I know can stop myself, the corners of my lips tip up in response.
Percy opens his mouth to say something, something probably along the lines of whoa, Annabeth's smiling, *the apocalypse*, but I quickly cut him off.
"Carrie!" I jump, turning to my sister, "You've got a milk mustache!" I wipe it off gently with my fingers then smear it on her cheeks. She squeals then rushes off towards the bathroom to clean her face. I turn back to Percy who lounges with one elbow on the couch, milk mustache present.
Okay, Percy Jackson manages to make milk mustaches hot. I DON'T UNDERSTAND!
"Do me too," he says giving me a dirty grin. I tilt my head, if Percy's going to mess with my head, Ima gonna mess with his.
"Okay," I say and slide my fingers under his chin. His eyes widen to saucers and I run my thumb gently, purposefully, over his lips, wiping away the mustache. I pull away. Then burst out laughing.
"You-should have seen the look on your face!" I wheeze out, toppling over on my side. Percy growls, literally growls, and pulls me into his lap.
"Hey! Percy! Let go off me!" I yell but he refuses to let go.
Suddenly, my back hits the carpeted floor and he's looking down at me, our faces centimeters apart.
"That wasn't very nice, Annabeth," he murmurs, his eyes glinting dangerously, "I should punish you." I freeze as he glances down at my mouth for a second then back up at my eyes.
"Percy…" I begin but then all of a sudden I hear Carrie stumbling back towards the living room. I throw Percy off me and leap back onto the couch, trying to look nonchalant as Carrie walks in.
"I'm back!" She squeals dropping down to sit in Percy's lap.
"So soon?" Percy asks looking up at me, "Too bad." Carrie pouts and smacks Percy's shoulder.
"Didn't you miss me?" She asks, furrowing her eyebrows.
"Of course we missed you," Percy says smoothing the wrinkles on her forehead, "Wanna play Monopoly?"
For some reason, for the next couple of hours, Percy didn't leave. Instead he stayed in the living room playing with Carrie. He must have been able to tell that something was wrong and wanted to ask, but he kept his mouth shut and would glance at me from time to time. I felt like I should tell him what was going on, but talking about it meant that it was actually happening and didn't want to think about that so I plopped down on the floor next to Percy and stared at my phone.
It never occurred to me that Percy was good with kids, but he must be because for the next several hours while I slipped in and out of sleep, Percy kept Carrie busy. I watched them play game after game off tic-tac-toe, checkers, and chopsticks. Percy must of read her all the children books in the house and they played at least three different games of Barbie. Carrie was kept busy but I jumped every time my phone went off and spent my time awake nervously chewing on my nails.
I was worried out of my mind and for some reason, even though he had no idea what he was doing here and why he was playing Pony Princess with six year old girl, he seemed to understand that something was wrong. His dirty side comments had my blood flashing hot and cold and his hand almost never left my knee. In normal circumstances I would have bitch-slapped his hand to a planet beyond our solar system (A/N: Exotics, please tell me see what I did there ^.^ I'm such a dork) but his steady presence comforted me. Well, it kept me from curling up into a fetal position and losing my sanity.
At maybe the fifth hour Carrie fell asleep in his lap and Percy settled her comfortably on the couch next to me then whispers, "are you hungry?"
I blinked at him blankly, taking second to process his question.
"What? Um-" I hadn't really thought about it, but I had skipped lunch and my breakfast consisted of coffee and a croissant.
Percy looks at, waiting for an answer. My stomach rumbled defiantly and we both looked down at it.
"Yeah," I say nodding a few times, "there are a couple takeout menus on the refrigerator."
"Cool," Percy says, "so, what do you want?"
"Uh, whatever you want," I say, food, at this point, would suffice. Percy laughs though his nose.
"I want whatever you want," he says. I stare. "So…does Chinese food sound good?" he says after the silence.
I nod.
Percy disappears in the kitchen to track down the menus while I check my phone for a message I know won't be there. I plop down on the Barbie littered floor and brace my back against the couch. For some reason I can barely keep my head up and I find myself fighting to keep my eyes open.
When my eyes open next, the first thing I notice is the scent of Chinese takeout. Then I realize that I'm leaning against Percy, my temple pressed to his shoulder.
"Good morning," he sings brandishing his pair of chopsticks and takeout box, "did you sleep well?"
"Cocky bastard," I mutter and flush red. I quickly yank away and smooth my hair down. He smiles at me.
"Food?" he asks, choosing to ignore my comment. He motions towards the white take out box in front of me, a pair of unopened chopsticks balanced on the top.
I eat ravenously, I didn't realize how starving I was until I began eating. I eat all of my meal and half of his. He let me have the last eggroll.
"Sorry, I should have ordered more," Percy says, he switches from sitting to crouching, "are you still hungry?"
"Nooo…" I say setting my chopsticks down. Percy automatically gathers up the trash. He has it in his hand and is headed towards the kitchen before I can say anything else.
When he returns he sits down on the couch, looks down at me, and asks the dreaded question, "So, are you going to tell me why I'm here taking care of a six year old while you chew your fingers off?"
A/N: I'm so proud of you Percy! TT_TT (tears of joy ^.^). You aren't as big of a dick as we all thought you were! I was writing this and eating takeout, and now- as I write the unnecessarily long. Author's Note- I WANT CHINESE FOOD DAMNIT! TT_TT
