Chapter 14

BPOV

The next day I only saw Edward in Biology. The teacher had set another group assignment so I was silently working on it while Edward watched me. I then thought about this weekend and remembered how Carlisle and Esme had said they wanted to meet Edward. I need to tell him but how? I don't want him to feel like I'm being clingy already and claiming him before we've even made it official.

Wait, are we going to make it official? What if he does this with tons of girls all the time? What if he just sees me as a little nerd he can take advantage of? What if we're not going to develop a relationship? What if he doesn't ask me to be his girlfriend? Crap, I should have thought about this earlier.

"Um, Edward?" I called out in a small voice.

"Yeah?" he asked still staring at me.

"Uh, about this weekend, my parents are really strict and stuff and they wanted to know who I'm going to be with so I told them you and now they want to meet you before we leave. Is that fine?" I asked biting my lip and not looking up at him once. I was scared that he'd think I was too much of a loser for him and he should just move on now.

He was silent for a bit but I didn't dare look up at him. "Yeah, that's fine." he finally said.

I smiled glad that he didn't sound annoyed and he didn't think I was more of a loser than I already was. Well, at least he didn't say anything...

"One more thing..." I said before I forgot. This time I looked up at him.

"What?" he asked raising an eyebrow at me.

I smiled. "I'm getting my licence on Saturday and I was wondering-"

"Oh no," he interrupted before I was even finished talking.

"Come on, please. I'm really good," I said sure of myself.

"Sure you are," he scoffed and rolled his eyes, "I'm sorry but I don't feel like dying while I'm still young."

I was offended. "Aw, come on," I pouted. I reached for his hand under the table and squeezed it. "Please?" I asked again looking straight into his eyes.

He looked like he was struggling to say no. He finally sighed and said, "alright. You can drive there and I'll drive us back."

"Yay," I said smiling and then went back to our work.

This weekend is going to be perfect.

After Biology I had gym. We were playing dodgeball (my least favourite sport) so I feigned being sick and got a note to go to the school nurse. On my way to the nurse I saw a poster on a bulletin board in the hallway. It said:

AUDITIONS for GREASE
THIS FRIDAY AT 14:30 IN THE AUDITORIUM
ALL ARE WELCOME
SIGN UP NOW!

I stood there for a while looking at the list of people who had signed up. There weren't many. One name that stuck out was Kate's. We'd talked a bit in class but we haven't become good friends. She's nice though. I didn't realize she liked acting. I wonder if she's any good. I'll make sure to watch the final performance.

"Are you thinking of auditioning?"

I jumped at the sound of a voice coming from behind me. I turned around to find a middle aged woman raising her eyebrows at me. I looked behind me just to check if she was really talking to me. She smiled.

"I'm talking to you honey. Are you thinking of auditioning for the play? You'd make a great Sandy," she said with a big smile.

"How would you know?" I asked incredulous.

She chuckled slightly. "A directer knows," she said winking at me before she walked off.

That was strange. I stared at the sign up sheet for a moment longer before I decided against signing up and carried on walking towards the nurses office.

Friday came and I had been thinking about the auditions for the musical. I hadn't talked to anybody about it. I knew Esme and Carlisle wouldn't approve. And Edward would just find it stupid. But still, I found myself sitting at the back of the auditorium silently observing the other auditions taking place. To say this school had no talent in the drama department was an understatement. The auditions were awful.

I saw the director lady watching with sad eyes. She looked as if she was going to break down. After the final audition she desperately called out to the few people sitting near the front "Any last minute sign ups? Anyone at all?" She looked around hopefully.

I gut up slowly intending to leave quietly. Of course with me that was never the case. I tripped on the edge of the last seat and fell into the aisle. All eyes were on me now.

"You!" The director pointed at me with a smile on her face. "I knew you would come," she said making her way over to me.

My eyes widened as I slowly got up off the floor. "Oh, I was just-" I started but she interrupted.

"Come now, blow me away!" she said ushering me towards the stage.

"But I wasn't-" I was once again interrupted.

"Show me what you've got," she said smiling as she sat down.

I was standing in the center of the stage. The lights were shinning down on me and the very small audience was staring me down, intimidating me. I took a small shaky breath about to tell her that I was sorry but I'm not auditioning but then I saw the desperation in her eyes. She was looking at me as if I was her last hope.I didn't want to disappoint her by not auditioning yet I felt like even if I did audition I would still be disappointing her because of my lack of talent. After a quick debate in my head I decided to just audition.

"What do you want me to do?" I asked.

"Sing," she told me.

I nodded my head and started singing If I Die Young.
