Chapter 20- The First Showdown
Shadow
He's coming. Shadow stared in the direction the incoming threat was heading from, throwing his green chaos emerald up into the air and catching it. This'll be quite the fight… How are we going to do this? The thought was private, more of a rhetorical question than requiring an answer. At the speed Griffin was going, there would be no time to. "I've found you guys now twice within a week. Better work on your hiding!" he chuckled. Shadow just barely jumped out of the way in time as the deranged madman covered the distance between them. The Curse members quickly prepared for the inevitable battle. But before that, the uninvited guest had a few words for his unwilling benefactors. "Well, well, well. I have been enjoying my newfound powers. Speed. Flight. Strength. Telekinesis. Fire. Love, which," he turned with slight contempt towards Amy, "I have found the least useful. At the most useful, chaos. I can see now why they wanted to eliminate you, Shadow." Said hedgehog growled. "We'll stop you Griffin, no matter what!" Sonic exclaimed. Griffin thought of his activities prior to arriving and smirked. "Quite the job you've done there." The tension was sparking through the air as all parties waited for the first move.
Sonic
Well, no use in just standing around. Let's get this started! Sonic dashed forward at breakneck speeds, aiming for his target- and was deflected immediately with a wall of flame. Frustrated, the hedgehog ran in fast circles around Griffin, trying to blow out the fire. By the time he made his first revolution, however, he was struck hard in the chest. The hero landed hard on the ground. Right… My speed AND Knuckles's strength… He spent a moment surveying the scene. Silver had several boulders levitating around him, trying to get a good angle. Knuckles was darting around the enemy, spiked fists in boxing position. Amy stood strong, Piko Piko hammer raised high. Fire was coursing from Blaze's fingertips in a furious inferno. Shadow launched bolts of pure chaotic energy, eyes focused solely on his target. And Tails landed right by the blue blur's side, offering him a hand. He took it gratefully, getting ready to fight once more. He observed Griffin more closely. Why isn't he fighting back more? All he's doing is fending off our attacks… All of the sudden, he raised an emerald and shouted, "Chaos control!" Shadow, who had come to the same conclusion as his counterpart, did the exact same thing.
Shadow
Shadow's red eyes met those of his enemy. He was used to the pausing of time, but it was unusual to see another individual moving amongst the frozen. "Hm… It appears you have followed me." Griffin commented. "Into MY domain? Why of course!" the hedgehog replied sarcastically. "You can't beat me alone. You know that." the uniter sneered. Shadow said nothing, continuing his staredown. "I'm going to leave now, and you can't stop me." Griffin added, lifting the powerful yellow gem. The Ultimate Lifeform tightened his grip on his own glowing green emerald and said, "I could follow you." "And do what?" he mocked, involuntarily spreading his "wings" slightly. "You know how to pick your battles Shadow. Be wise enough to back down now." he continued, then disappeared. With a sigh, Shadow unfroze time and faced his companions, who all looked at him expectantly. "He's gone."
Rouge
Rouge, along with Cream and Omega, emerged from hiding. The bat ran over to her friend and noticed something was on his mind immediately. He was staring at the ground intensely, as if it held the answers to the universe. "Are you okay?" she asked nervously, placing a hand on his shoulder. The action snapped him from his reverie and he nodded. "What happened during the chaos control?" the kleptomaniac continued, trying to get as much information as possible before he zoned out again. He was quiet for a moment before he responded with decent volume, "This isn't going to work." The other Curse members turned his way. "We can't win against him the way we're fighting. He can use our main abilities against us, which doesn't leave us many options." The sun began to sink below the horizon, and Sonic assumed his werehog form. An idea suddenly popped into Rouge's head. That's it! "He only has your main powers!" she exclaimed excitedly. The others shifted their attention to her now, all slightly confused. "Seeing Sonic transform gave me the idea. He only can use your main powers. For example, he has Sonic's speed, but he doesn't become a werewolf at night." she explained, taking satisfaction upon seeing their looks of realization. "So the only way to beat him…" Knuckles began. "Is to use our unique abilities, those not part of the Curse." Tails finished, tilting his head to the side contemplatively. Rouge glanced at her teammate, surprised to see him shoot her the faintest of smiles. For him, that was saying something. With that thought, the team was sent in a new direction.

Wow... It's been around ten months since I've typed a chapter for this story... If any original readers of this story are reading this, then I salute you loyal fan! I have had CRAZY writer's block for this story. During the technical hiatus, I've been typing other (non-fanfic) stories. I decided to randomly look back through this story, and decided I couldn't just discontinue it. So I vowed to myself to write another chapter this week. Here it is! I PLAN (keyword: plan) to pick this story back up. This story got consistent views even during the long period of time, and I'm curious to see how many views I get. Please favorite and review! I LOVE reading people's comments!
