Chapter 5: Welcome to Smallville

Space- Wormhole

Jor-El and Zor-El's spaceships flew through the wormhole at top speed thanks to hyperspace drives installed by the two scientists before Krypton's untimely explosion. The ships were on course for the planet earth with its two passengers safely tucked away, but as the seconds ticked by in the wormhole, Zor-El's ship began to shake and rattle loudly. The sound of grinding metal could be heard as it flew and the sound was followed bys a small spark that came from the side of the ship. The spark originated from the spot where Brainiac had managed to strike it before they entered the wormhole.

The sparks started off small but they gradually started to get bigger and as each spark emerged from the blasted side of the ship, Jor-El's spaceship started to pull further ahead.

Zor-El's Ship- Interior

The unconscious Kara-Zor-El jostled up and down as the spacecraft shook, but despite the shaking it didn't arouse her from her forced unconscious state, she was blissfully unaware that her father's ship was beginning to drop out of hyperspace.

Wormhole

Jor-El's ship pulled ahead more and more until it was completely out of sight. Zor-El's ship let out a massive energy spark and the rockets that propelled the ship through the vast tunnel ceased to function. The engines blew out and it caused the colorful and wonderful wormhole that surrounded it to flicker and waver until it vanished from existence completely.

Zor-El's space ship dropped out of the wormhole and it drifted through space and into the unknown.

Elsewhere- Krypton

Floating among the remains of what was the great and technologically advanced planet was the deactivated Brainiac. The lifeless Brainiac drifted among the debris harmlessly but as the robot drifted he started to vibrate. The vibrations intensified until an electrical surge erupted over the entire spherical hull. The empty interlocking dots on one side of the hull flickered until the dots turned green which signified that Brianiac was back online.

Inside Brainiac

"Brainiac systems reboot complete" came his eerily calm mechanical voice.

Brainiac righted himself and he activated his thrusters.

"Scanning…Scanning….Planet Krypton has successfully detonated, no Kryptonian life forms detected."

Brianiac turned away from the destroyed planet and towards the stars.

"Scanning….Jor-El and Zor-El's spacecrafts are undetectable, setting long range scanners to detect House of El ion trail. Scanning….short range scanners have detected Kryptonian life-forms one sector over, plotting course. Scanning….short range scanners have detected two life-forms approaching, non-Kryptonian, and threat level minimal…plotting course for nearest Kryptonian outpost, course set…engaging."

Brainiac's thrusters roared to life as he propelled himself away from the destroyed planet and towards the nearest Kryptonian outpost.

Seconds Later

Two figures emitting a brilliant green glow flew into rocky debris of Krypton. The two of them were wearing similar green and black outfits and both had a green power ring around their fingers. The figures in question were Green Lanterns from the Green Lantern Corps.

The Green Lanterns flew forward and further into the debris field, both of them looking at the remains however only one of them allowed a solemn expression to appear on their face.

"Ring…scan" one of the Lanterns said while holding up his right hand. The ring on his right middle finger emitted a wide beam of light that passed over the remains of the planet.

"NO LIFE PRESENT" the ring responded. The Lantern looked at his ring and then to his partner.

"We're too late Sinestro. The Planet Krypton is no more."

"I'm well aware of that Abin, I have eyes….it's a pity, they were an interesting race to say the least" came the voice of the second Green Lantern Thaal Sinestro.

Sinestro's partner Abin Sur looked at him and then shook his head. Abin turned towards the planet that was close to Krypton and he narrowed his eyes.

"Come on" said Abin.

"Where are we going?" Sinestro asked.

"A detonation this size is bound to have affected any planet in proximity." Abin replied, "Ring scan."

The green power ring obeyed the command and scanned the planet.

"Planet Dheron….life forms detected….in need of assistance" the ring responded.

Abin immediately leaned forward and flew in the direction of the planet Dheron. Sinestro heaved a sigh and he held up his left hand that held his green power ring. The ring glowed as the light around him intensified. He leaned forward and flew after Abin and towards the planet Dheron.

Earth- Kansas, Smallville- Months Ago

The small town of Smallville was a place where everyone knew everyone. Smallville was a place where people always stopped and greet each other warmly and even had time to have long friendly conversations with each other. Smallville was a place that was stuck in a time where people still valued things like town festivals, group gatherings, family, and lending a helping hand.

It was often said that Smallville was a boring little farming town and in a sense it was but that was only to the people that didn't live there; the citizens of the boring little town loved everything about their boring life; that's the way they liked it and that's they way they always wanted it to stay.

Smallville Kansas was decently populated and for the most part everyone was happy, everyone except for two life long citizens of Smallville, College sweethearts by the name of Jonathan and Martha Kent.

Jonathan Kent was thirty two years old and he stood at 6'1 with wavy dirty blonde hair, blue eyes and a tan complexion. He had an average build that was covered by a plaid blue shirt, blue jeans, boots, and a beige jacket. He was an attractive man that had more than his share of admires in Smallville but there was only one woman that had caught his attention and held it for the past ten years and that was his wife, Martha Kent.

Martha Kent was thirty one years old and she was a very attractive woman that was about 5'9, a fair skin complexion, blue eyes, a slim build, with long strawberry blonde hair but she was currently bald.

Jonathan and Martha had fallen in love with each other the moment they met and they have held that love for ten years. They have had ten years worth of time together and it was about a year ago they decided that it was time to expand the love between them by adding children into their life. A topic that they had discussed many times over the years but neither felt they were fully ready.

Martha wanted to finish her college education in political science and teaching which took a far amount of time and Jonathan had to struggle to keep the farm together in the wake of his father's death and because of the way the economy had started to deteriorate, plus the threat of big businesses coming in a buying up all the land. They both had gone through their fair share of battles but now the battles were over and it was time for them to complete their family, however just when they were getting ready to start a family Martha had started to get very sick, to the point where she had to go to the doctor.

The Doctors ran their test and to their surprised they had diagnosed her with Ovarian Cancer. Martha to her credit had taken the news relatively well but Jonathan knew it was tearing her up inside, especially considering the fact that her mother had died from breast Cancer several years earlier; she was just trying to be strong for his sake. Martha had remained optimistic even through chemotherapy but the chemotherapy did little to help the Cancer and so the doctors wanted to go to the next stage which was surgery.

The surgery had gone well and the Doctor's were able to remove the cancerous tissue but the surgery came at a price; a rather large price.

Jonathan reached over and picked up Martha's left hand and he brought it to his lips and kissed it ever so gently. He then raised his right hand and ran it over her bald head and he smiled a sweet smile. The nurses told him she should be waking up at any moment and he had been anxiously waiting for that moment to happen. Jonathan heaved a sigh and just as he did that Martha slowly began to stir from her slumber. Jonathan straightened up a little as Martha cracked open her eyes and focused on his smiling face.

"Hey you" he whispered.

"H-Hey" she responded in a groggy whisper, "H-How did…it go?" she asked.

Jonathon put a solemn expression on his face as he stared into Martha's hopeful eyes. She saw the expression and she furrowed her brows a bit.

"D-Did it not go well?"

"No…No it went fine Martha, all of the caner is gone, and they managed to cut it all out but….."

"But what?" she asked in the same groggy voice.

Jonathan felt his eyes welling up with tears a little.

"…"

"Jonathan"

"….maybe you should wait until you…"

"Jonathan Kent…tell me…now" she said weakly but sternly.

"…the cancer….it was worse than they thought, more aggressive and….and…they had to take both of your ovaries instead of just the one."

"B-Both?" she questioned.

Jonathan nodded his head, he could feel the tears falling down his face but he didn't care.

"You'll…..We'll never be able to have children." He said lowering his head "I'm sorry Martha"

Martha heard the news and she could hear her own heart shattering into a million pieces. All of the family plans that she and Jonathan had been making instantly vanished; all the ideas of holding her baby boy or girl in her arms…gone, all the ideas of her and Jonathan watching their child taking the first steps, running through the fields or playing with the other children were wiped away from her mind.

Martha saw the tears running down Jonathan's face and she could hear him sobbing a little, she could feel her own eyes welling up with tears as she weakly reached up to his head and gently ran a hand through his hair. Jonathan raised his head and he looked at her to see the tears flowing freely. He rose from his seat and he moved closer to her and leaned down and embraced her in a hug. The two hugged each other with as much strength as they could muster despite the fact that the news itself felt like it was robbing them of that very strength but they drew from each other and it was enough.

Jonathan and Martha Kent continued to hug each other and they weakly wept together.

Present- Nine Months Later- Kent Family Farm

Martha Kent splashed some water onto her face and then looked at herself in the mirror. In the nine months that she had had her cancer removed she had made a full recovery, her once pale skin had been replaced with her normal fair complexion, her once bald head had been replaced with her strawberry blonde hair that was cut short. The fatigue and weakness from the chemotherapy had faded but it took time and determination something which Martha had never been short on. The young woman glanced down at her abdomen to see that her incision scar was beginning to disappear, but what wouldn't disappear is the memory of that day that Jonathan told her the news. The physical scars had long passed but the emotional scars would never leave…that gap in her heart would never be filled for her and she knew it would never be filled for Jonathan either.

Martha turned to the left and she looked at Jonathan who was still sleeping soundly. The past nine months had been something of a mixed bag between them, things started off a bit rocky because they both had sunken into a depression but as the days went by they had both started to pull from it and things between them had been getting better, they were each other's rock.

Martha smiled as she saw him laying there but her smile faded a bit when she heard the rooster crowing outside the house. She sigh and turned back to the mirror.

"6:30 am" she whispered

Space- Wormhole-

Jor-El's spaceship jostled and shook but it held strong against the force being exerted on it as it flew through the majestic wormhole. The ship had been traveling for some time but during that time Kal-El continued to sleep peacefully in his stasis pod and it was thanks to the sedative that Jor-El had given him, it kept him completely unaware of anything and everything that was happening around him.

Kansas, Smallville- 7:35 am

Martha Kent pushed herself a little bit harder and jogged faster down the even and calm two lane road. The Doctors told her once she was able the best thing she could do was to move around and exercise; build her body back up after going through such a traumatic experience, which is exactly what she started doing around four months ago.

Everyday she would wake up around 6 am and she would run; at first she started slow and steady with walking but she worked her way up to a good fast paced jog. And much to her surprise jogging turned out to be very therapeutic, nothing was on her mind but the sound of her breathing and the feel of the road beneath her feet and that's exactly what she wanted.

Martha continued to jog, following along the road until she saw a parked limousine up ahead, she could make out two men and a little boy standing by the side of it and so she scrunched her eyes up a bit and jogged towards the three of them.

Side of the Road

"M-Mr. Luthor I'm sorry b-but….w-we're…." the first man stuttered before he was interrupted.

"Lost." The second man said with a slight edge in his voice "Thank you Otis, I can see that for myself. Of all the places to get lost, we get lost in Smallville, Kansas. There is absolute nothing…"

"Hey!"

The three individuals turned to see Martha jogging up to them.

"Having some trouble?" she asked cheerfully.

"Yes…my driver seems to have gotten lost, but forgive my manors, allow me to introduce myself I'm Lionel Luthor."

Lionel Luthor was the owner and creator of LutherCorp. He was one of the wealthiest men in world and second wealthiest man in America right before Robert Queen owner of Queen Industries and right after Thomas and Martha Wayne owner and operators of Wayne Enterprises. The billionaire business man was fairly handsome and stood at 6'0 with medium length wavy hair, he had a fair complexion and looked to be in his late 30s, he had brown eyes, and a thick brown goatee around his mouth. He had a lean build that was covered by a very expensive gray and black Italian suit.

Lionel smiled a charming smile and he raised his hand, all the while letting his eyes quickly roam over Martha.

Martha raised her hand and shook it politely.

"I'm Martha Kent"

Lionel took her hand and gently kissed the back.

"The pleasure is absolutely all mine Martha"

Martha smiled politely and retrieved her hand from Lionel; she looked to the left to see his Driver, Otis, who was a portly man, in a suit that was two sizes too small for him waving at her and she politely waved to him; finally her eyes landed on the small boy that was standing next to Otis. He had red hair, green eyes, pale complexion and he looked to be around six or seven years old. He was wearing a suit that was similar to his father's but only it was navy blue.

Lionel followed her line of sight to Otis and the boy and he smiled.

"This is Otis my Driver and this is my son…Alexander, say hello to the beautiful lady."

The young Alexander released a sigh.

"Dad, I wanna be called Lex."

"Your name is Alexander" Lionel replied, "Now say hi."

Lex looked at Martha.

"Hello"

"Hi it's nice to meet you Lex." She replied sweetly looking at him before turning back to Lionel "So you're lost, I might be able to help; I was born and raised in Smallville."

"Madame any help you can offer would be much obliged. I'm trying to find the Mayor's house, the main road is blocked and we had to take a different road."

"Yeah I know, it's because of the town fair that's tonight, but one thing that Smallville has is plenty of backroads to get from place to place, but didn't your driver see the detour signs?"

Lionel turned towards Otis and narrowed his eyes.

"I don't know; did you see the signs Otis?" he asked.

Otis straightened up a bit.

"No sir M-Mr. Luthor…I didn't see no signs up." He replied quickly.

Martha pursed her lips together and she shook her head.

"Must've been Billy Jenson and his band ruffians" said Martha.

"Kids?" Lionel questioned.

"Teens with nothing better to do than to take down signs. It has happened before; they find it funny when out of towners come in and…"

"Get lost" Lionel finished while shaking his head "It's nice to know that some things don't change even out here in the country. The big city has its share of hooligans as well."

"Which big city are you from Mr. Luthor?"

"Born and raised in Metropolis and please Martha call me Lionel."

Martha smiled a small smile.

"Well…Lionel, if you turn around and go down this road and all the way to the end, you're going to turn left and keeping going until you see a big Billboard that says eat at Tina's. Once you're passed the billboard you're going to make a right and go down that road and all the way to the end. The Mayor's house is the one with the big white oak tree…you can't miss it."

Lionel smiled at her.

"Did you get all of that Otis?" he asked without looking at him, his attention still solely on the woman in front of him.

"Yes Sir Mr. Luthor I got all of it."

"Then why are you still standing there….start the limo" he continued.

Otis quickly scrambled to the limo and as he went he took the young Lex Luthor by the hand and directed him towards the back of the Limo where he ushered him inside before heading towards the driver's seat.

Lionel took hold of Martha's hand again and gave the back of it another kiss.

"I appreciate the assistance Martha."

Martha kindly but quickly took her hand out of his grasp.

"Honestly it was nothing"

"No, not many people would have stopped to help a stranger"

"It's just something that we do here in Smallville….lend a helping hand to anyone that needs it."

"A value that is sorely missed" Lionel replied, "Goodbye Martha…I hope that our paths cross again."

Lionel swiftly turned around and he moved towards his awaiting Limo, he got inside and shut the door.

Martha watched as the Limo quickly pulled off the side of the road and continued in the direction that she had given.

20 Minutes Later- Mayor's House

Lionel Luthor sat in the living room of the current Mayor of Smallville, Eugene Pickerson. The aged Mayor heaved a sigh and rubbed a hand through his dark brown hair all the while staring at the cunning and ruthless businessman before him.

"Mr. Luthor, I can't" Mayor Pickerson said while shaking his head.

"Come on Eugene, you can do anything you put your mind to" Lionel replied smoothly, "So I have no doubt that you can convince one more family to sell."

"I can't!" he exclaimed standing up from his seat "I've already done it twice for you and I feel terrible already. You have no idea what you're asking of these people."

"It's just land Eugene; dirt and rocks, nothing more."

"Maybe to someone like you Luthor, but not to me and not to these people; the land is their life. Their families, for generations tilled the land and…."

"Spare me." Lionel said dismissively while rising from his own seat. He reached into his coat pocket and he retrieved an envelope. Lionel slammed the enveloped down onto the coffee table in front of him.

"Here is another 25,000 for your co-operation; I believe that's more than enough to get you in the mood to convince one of the families on the outskirts to sell their land to me."

Mayor Pickerson eyed the envelope that was bursting at the seems with money. The elder gentlemen wiped the sweat from his forehead and he looked up to Lionel.

"I hear there is a town fair tonight. I'll see you there, and I hope you'll have some good news for me." He said before walking to the right and towards the door and exiting the homestead.

SLAM! Went the sound of the door slamming shut behind them.

Mayor Pickerson grimaced a bit at the sound but never for a second did he take his attention off of the money that was on the table. The aged Mayor heaved a sigh before reaching towards the money and picking it up.

Later- The Talon- 3:30pm

Jonathan and Martha sat at the coffee table laughing joyously as they talked with their close friends Bill and Abigail Ross, the owners of the neighboring farm in Smallville. The four of them had agreed a few days ago that they would meet at the Talon to catch up and discuss the fair that the city was preparing for later that night.

The Kent's and the Ross's let out another round of laughter; Martha chuckled and then looked to the right and at the stroller that was next to their table. The stroller held the two month old Pete Ross. She stopped laughing and she looked at the sleeping baby for a long second until her attention was drawn away from him and to Abigail.

"What did you say Abigail?" Martha asked.

"I asked what time where the two of you planning on showing up to the fair?"

"We were thinking maybe around 6: 30" said Jonathan

"Just in time for the pie eating contest huh?" Bill questioned with a smirk.

Jonathan shrugged his shoulders.

"That's just a happy coincidence."

The two men let out a laugh.

"So, how have the two of you been?" Abigail asked.

"You know we've been….good…taking it a day at a time." Martha responded.

"It's all you can do" Bill said.

"Yeah" Martha trailed off a bit glancing at the sleeping Pete.

Abigail pursed her lips together.

"Stop me if I'm out of line but….have the two of you been discussing adoption."

Jonathan and Martha looked to each other and both released a small sigh.

"We started to but….but I think it maybe a little too soon" said Jonathan, "It's not exactly a no but…"

"But we really had our hearts set on a child of our own" Martha finished.

Abigail looked at her friend and at the solemn expression upon her face.

"I'm sorry I brought it up Martha" she said quickly.

Martha smiled a little.

"Don't be….part of the healing process is talking about it."

"…Martha…Jonathan" Bill started before leaning forward a bit "I….I just want to say that everything happens for a reason. You may not see it now but there is a reason for everything"

Space- Wormhole

Jor-El's ship shook and it began to rattle while it traveled at top speed through the vast wormhole. Kal-El started to shift and move a little but for the most part he remained peacefully sedated.

Kansas, Smallville- Town Fair- 7:30pm

The Smallville Town Fair was in full swing in the middle of the small city; everyone was there and enjoying themselves as the bright lights illuminated the night time sky. The locals all greeted each other with friendly smiles and the children ran around freely enjoying the rides and junk food from the vendors.

Jonathan, moved through the crowd of people making sure to greet everyone he knew, he was searching for his wife who had went off with Abigail while he and Bill squared off in the pie eating contest finals.

Jonathan adjusted the first place medal on his shirt as he sidestepped two kids who ran past him. He shook his head and put a smile on his face. The farmer came to a stop and he looked around and he finally spotted his wife standing by the horseshoe toss. He stood there for a second watching her and a few other compete in the contest. He looked at the smile on her face and it relieved him a great deal, this was honestly the happiest he had seen her in a long time.

'She needed this….hell, I needed this.' He thought to himself as he stood there and continued to watch the love of his life.

Space- Wormhole

The spaceship began to let off a few sparks and as a result the ship began to toss and lurch wildly.

The violent movement caused Kal-El to stir and his eyes began to flutter open. Once his eyes were open and he found himself within the shaking stasis tube he opened his mouth and began to wail loudly.

Smallville

Martha clapped as her horseshoe wrapped around the ring.

"WINNER!" the announcer shouted which earned several claps from the small crowd that was around the game. Martha smiled as everyone started to congratulate her while she took the first place ribbon from the announcer.

Martha looked at the ribbon and she quickly clipped the ribbon onto her shirt.

"I believe congratulations are in order." Came a voice.

Martha turned to see Lionel and his son Lex standing behind her.

"First place champion eight years running" Martha replied with a smile.

"I must say I never knew that Smallville could be so lively."

"Let me guess…big city guy like you thought we're a bunch of dreary and boring country bumpkins."

"Of course not." Lionel replied.

"Dad you said those exact words earlier" came the voice of Lex.

Lionel looked at his son and narrowed his eyes a bit.

"Alexander why don't you go play horseshoes while the grownups are talking."

"But I don't know how." He replied.

"You're a Luthor you'll pick it up quick. I'm sure it's not that difficult"

Martha looked at Lionel and scoffed.

"Excuse me…it actually takes a bit of skill." She said, before moving to the left until she was in front of Lex, "Would you like for me to show you how to play?" she asked.

Lex looked at her kind face and then glanced towards his father who looked at him with a neutral expression; Lex turned back to Martha and nodded his head. She took him by the hand and led him to the game.

Space- Wormhole- Jor-El's ship

"WAHHHHHHHHH!" Kal-El cried at the top of his lungs.

The ship jostled and thumped all around but along with all of the shaking the ship began to slow down a little as a brilliant light could be seen at what looked like the end of the long and vast wormhole.

Smallville

"Now remember Lex, it's all in the elbow and wrist" Martha coached as she backed away from the young boy.

Lex held the horseshoe in his hand and he stared straight ahead at the wring. He narrowed his eyes and visualized where he wanted the horseshoe to go and he straightened his elbow and then tossed the shoe making sure to curl his wrist.
DING! Went the sound of the horseshoe wrapping around the ring.

Martha and few other standing around started clapping.

"Good job!" Martha exclaimed.

Lex turned to her and he smiled, but his smile disappeared a little when Lionel stepped towards them.

"Beauty, Brains and you're good with children; that must come from practice. Do you have any children?"

Martha heard the question and she heaved a small sigh.

"No….I-I don't have any."

"Well I'm sure that you'll make a wonderful mother someday."

Martha smiled at him and slowly nodded her head.

"…..yeah" she replied after a minute.

"Martha, I was wondering would you like to have dinner with me tomorrow night. I'm only going to be here for another few days before I go back to Metropolis but I'd like for that time to be spent with good company."

"….I'm flattered Lionel but I'm afraid that I can't do that."

"Martha!" came a shout.

The two of them turned to see Jonathan walking up to them. He reached them and he kissed Martha on the side of the cheek.

Lionel looked at Jonathan with a neutral expression.

"Jonathan, I'd like you to meet Lionel Luthor and his son Lex; Lionel, Lex I'd like you to meet my husband, Jonathan Kent."

"Hello, it's nice to meet you." Said Jonathan raising his hand.

Lionel looked at the hand for a long second and then glanced at Martha; he reluctantly reached up and shook Jonathan's hand.

"Charmed" Lionel replied.

Jonathan turned to Lex and he squatted down to eye level and held out his hand.

"Nice to meet you too Lex"

Lex carefully raised his own hand and shook Jonathan's hand. Lionel shifted in his spot and he cleared his throat.

"I suppose that means dinner is off. Come along Alexander we have work to do. Martha it was a pleasure to run into you again. Mr. Kent…..you have something on the side of your mouth."

Lionel quickly took his son by the arm and he quickly led him away from the couple.

Jonathan wiped the side of his mouth and he watched the two of them briskly walk away before turning to Martha.

"Dinner?" he questioned.

Martha only smirked.

Space- Earth's Orbit- International Space Station

An Astronaut was floating outside of the space station just staring at the beautiful blue orb known as the Earth. He floated there admiring the sight but his admiration was broken by the sound of his com link buzzing in his ear.

KRZZZZ "Hey Dyson come in"

The astronaut heaved a sigh.

"Yeah, I hear you Davis."

KRZZZ "I think that's enough sight seeing, you're supposed to be checking the stations external long range sensors."

"I know but I can't help it…everytime I see the old girl she just….takes my breath away"

KRZZZZZ "I know she's beautiful, but remember the long range sensors...I'm looking on the computer and everything is going absolutely haywire. I've done all I can in here."

"Alright Davis keep your pants on"

The astronaut grasped the thruster pack controls and he began to slowly push himself towards the long range scanners located on the far side of the space station.

Once he reached the scanner he took hold of the panel and he opened the panel but just as he did that something caught his eye. He looked past the panel that was in front of him and at the moon that was several hundred yards away. He could see the space between the moon rippling and wobbling; the rippling and wobbling only lasted a second before a massive and colorful wormhole opened.

"Oh My God!" he exclaimed.

From the Wormhole Jor-El's spaceship emerged and behind it were about a hundred pieces of Krypton's surface, some were small pieces others were large. After the ship and the rocks were out of the wormhole it stayed open for a few moments longer before sealing shut.

Smallville

Martha walked side by side with Jonathan, who was talking to her but, she regrettably wasn't listening in the slightest, her mind was too focused on Lionel's words to her.

Lionel: You'll make a wonderful mother one day

Martha's mind stayed focus on that sentence and as she thought about it she looked around the town fair to see the smiling faces of not only her friends and her neighbors but their families. She saw the Ross's posing with the baby Pete while a photographer took a picture. She saw the Lang's, the owners of the Talon, hugging their one month old baby girl Lana, she saw a dozen other families hugging their child or laughing and running with them. Martha saw all of this and the realization that she would never have that hit her like a sledge hammer to the stomach.

She stopped her walking and a sad expression appeared on her face.

Jonathan stopped his talking and he turned to her.

"Martha?"

"Jonathan…..can we leave?" she asked before looking him in the eyes.

He looked into her eyes and he could see the pain and he could see the tears that she was holding back. He gritted his teeth, because the sight of her hurting was something that he hated to see but he knew what she was sad about because all the while he was talking to her about nothing he was looking at the same happy faces and smiling families.

"Sure…..lets get out of here." He said in a whisper.

"GATHER AROUND FOLKS MAYOR PICKERSON'S GOT AN ANOUNCEMENT FOR US!" came the loud shout of the fair announcer but his words fell upon deaf ears to the Kent's, because while everyone walked towards the announcer and the Mayor they turned and walked in the opposite direction.

Space

Jor-El's ship rocketed towards the Earth at a break neck speed; the ship careened passed the on-looking astronaut and continued on towards the beautiful blue orb. The ship reached the Earth in no time and was easily caught in its gravitational pull. Some of the larger pieces of Krypton's surface exploded and streaked in all directions across the globe in a beautiful display.

Jor-El's ship was being pulled to the Earth and the heat from the atmosphere plus the amount of pressure on the ship earned several large sparks of electricity and more damage to the outer portion of the hull but despite all of that it continued to hold together.

Down Below- Earth- Gotham City- Wayne Manor

Thomas and Martha Wayne stood on the deck of their large and grandiose Mansion. In Thomas's arms was their one year old son Bruce Wayne; Martha gently rubbed her son's head as he laid against his father's chest sleeping peacefully. Thomas smiled at her and then looked up towards the sky, and that's when he saw it….dozens of shooting stars going across the sky.

"Wow. Look Martha…shooting stars, make a wish and it'll come true." He said to her.

Martha looked at the falling stars and then back to her son.

"I wish that our son grows up to be a good and honest man like his father." She said.

"And I wish that our son grows up to have the wisdom and heart of his mother." Said Thomas.

The husband and wife leaned towards the other and gently kissed.

Themyscira/Paradise Island- Exact Location Unknown

"PUSH MY QUEEN! PUSH! THE BABY IS ALMOST OUT!"

Queen Hyppolyta, Queen of the Amazons, a race of warrior women that inhabited the beautiful secluded Island obeyed the command and pushed with all of her might. Several tense seconds passed before a loud screaming filled the royal chamber.

Queen Hyppolyta fell back onto the bed in exhaustion.

"Is….Is….." she asked carefully looking at her physician an Amazon by the name of Alera. Alera wrapped the baby in a sheet and then looked up to her Queen and smiled.

"A girl…a beautiful baby girl." She announced.

"Thank the Gods" Hyppolyta whispered as Alera handed her the crying baby girl.

"My Queen…"

"You must never speak of this Alera….do you understand me." Queen Hyppolyta interrupted "The others can never know of her true heritage…they can never know about her father…..not even her."

"What will you tell our sisters?" Alera asked.

"I don't know yet….but I'll think of something, however I wonder can I trust you" Queen Hyppolyta replied while turning her eyes to Alera. The Amazonian physician slowly nodded her head.

"Of course my Queen, I will take this to my grave."

"Good."

"…..What will you name her my Queen?"

"Her name is Diana"

Alera smiled at the name; as she was smiling a bright light caught her eyes. She turned towards the right and she looked through the large opening in the royal chamber that gave them an impressive view of the night sky and Paradise Island. She looked up and she could see hundreds of shooting stars streaking across the sky.

"Cherish the Gods my Queen…..they celebrate the arrival of Princess Diana"

Queen Hyppolyta looked at the the sky and she smiled.

Jor-El's spaceship streaked across the sky falling towards the Earth. The ship let out few groans that were followed by more sparks and finally a piece of the crystal siding broke off and burned to a crisp in the superheated atmosphere. The ship lurched and then sharply curved to the left but as it did that a small explosion suddenly rocked the ship

BOOM! Went the sound of the explosion; from the small explosion more of the rocks that were around it where suddenly pushed away sending dozens of smaller streaks across the sky and towards the city below.

Smallville- Town Fair

Lex moved away from Lionel as he saw several people scowling at him. The young boy didn't fully understand why everyone was suddenly upset with his father but he knew enough to know that it was probably justified. Lex released a sigh and then looked up to the sky.

'I miss you mom' he thought to himself.

Lex continued to stare up into the starry night sky but he scrunched his eyes in confusion as he saw sky fill with streaks across the sky.

"Wow" he whispered at the dazzling display but as he looked up he saw that one of the falling stars start out high in the sky but then there was bright expansion of light followed by hundreds of smaller streaks across the night sky.

"Dad!" said Lex shouted, he turned around and he saw his father plus all the other Smallville citizens at the town fair staring upwards into the sky and at the falling stars.

THOOOOOOOOOOM! Went the sound of a building exploding behind them.

Lex whipped around to see the building set ablaze with fire.

"METEOR SHOWER!" Someone screamed at the top of their lungs.

The calm and peaceful town fair quickly erupted into chaos as more of the fiery meteors rained down upon the town fair and the whole city of Smallville.

People grabbed their kids and scrambled away as fast as they could. Lex was quickly lost in the throng of panicking residents. He looked all around for his father but he couldn't see or hear him.

"DAD!" Lex shouted.

BOOOM! went the sound of another meteor hitting the ground nearby kicking up dust and dirt.

"DAD!" Lex shouted again but still there was no answer from his father only screaming and destruction, "DA..." Lex started before a small meteor flew over his head and hit the ground.

BOOOOM! The force from the impact tossed Lex off of his feet. He went rolling across the ground until his roll was halted by and a square hay barrel. Lex took several deep breaths but his eyes widen in terror and he looked up to see debris from a wooden sign heading right for him.

"AHHHHHHH!" he screamed in fright

Several Miles Away

Jonathan adjusted the air conditioning in his old but sturdy pick up truck and then he glanced out of the corner of his eyes and at Martha who seemed to be wrapped in her own world.

"Do you believe that?" she asked suddenly.

"Do I believe what?"

"Do you believe that everything happens for a reason?"

Jonathan heaved a sigh and turned to his wife who was looking at him with hopeful eyes. The Farmer pondered the question for a second before he quickly came to an answer.

"I do….I do believe that…..I have to" he responded honestly.

Martha shook her head and looked away from him and back out of the window. She continued to stare off into the spacious fields that passed her by until a bright light in the side view mirror caught her eye. She looked into the mirror for a long second before her eyes widened.

"JONATHAN STOP THE CAR!" she shouted.

Jonathan slammed his foot on the brakes cause the truck to come to a skidding stop.

"What….What is it?" he asked frantically.

Martha opened her car door and stepped out of the truck and she was quickly followed by her husband.

"Martha what is it!?"

"JONATHAN LOOK!" she shouted while pointing.

Jonathan followed her hand and soon his eyes widened in horror as he saw the meteors flying across the sky. He looked up in amazement at the bright sky for a split second before looking back towards the downtown area of Smallville were he could see some of the meteors falling and hitting. He could see fires and he could faintly hear screaming.

"GOOD GOD IT'S A METEOR SHOWER!" he shouted.

"WHAT DO WE DO!?" Martha shouted back.

"WE HAVE TO FIND SHELTER AND QUICK!

Jonathan and Martha looked around but they were on a two lane road that was in the middle of nothing but wide open plains.

"THERE'S NOTHING HERE!" Martha exclaimed in terror.

"Oh no" Jonathan whispered.

Martha heard the whisper and she turned back to the shower; dead ahead and up in the sky was the brightest meteor they had ever seen. It was brighter than any of the other falling meteors and it seemed to be heading right for them.

"GOD!"

"Martha….Martha get in the truck" said Jonathan quickly as he began to back up "MARTHA GET IN THE TRUCK!"

Martha was broken from her stupor and she began to back up towards the truck, she scrambled into the passengers seat and slammed her door shut. Jonathan stepped on the gas peddle and the truck zoomed down the road.

The red pick-up truck flew down the road as fast as it go but the bright meteor was still heading right for them. Both Jonathan and Martha looked into their side view mirrors to see that the meteor was gaining on them.

Small meteor rocks that were around it hit the area of the ground around them and the impact force along the ground cause the truck to skid and twist all over the two lane road. The bright meteor sailed right towards them but at the last second another explosion rocked the right side and sent the meteor careening to the left and towards the open plain where it crashed with unimaginable force.

KAAAAAAAAAAABOOOOOOOOOOOOMM!

Jonathan gritted his teeth and he tried his hardest to keep the truck steady despite the fact that it was spinning wildly all over the road; when the meteor hit the force slammed against the truck and sent it into a tailspin.

"HOLD ON!"

Martha braced herself in her seat and closed her eyes tightly. Jonathan had both feet on the brakes and he had his arms in a locked position holding the steering wheel all of his might.

The vehicle spun and spun until it finally came out of its spin

Jonathan and Martha both took several deep breaths trying their best to calm their rapidly beating hearts. They looked at each other and immediately hugged the other.

"Are you alright?" they asked at the same time.

The two of them broke apart and looked each other over but they didn't see any injuries and so they both released a sigh of relief. Martha hung her head for a second and then turned towards the front windshield; she stared through it and her eyes doubled in size.

"Dear God" Martha whispered.

"Wha…"Jonathan started while turning to where she was looking "God almighty" he whispered in absolute shock because all of their spinning had caused them to face the open plain that had once been to the left of them on the two lane road. Through the windshield Jonathan and Martha Kent stared at what the highbeams to the pick-up truck were illuminating. It was a very large, burned and badly damaged spaceship imbedded into the open plain.

The couple spent a long second just staring at the ship, the only sound coming from either of them were their heavy breathing. Jonathan swallowed hard and he glanced towards his wife.

"Martha…" he started "D-Do you see….."

"A-A spaceship….yes Jonathan, that's exactly what I see…unless there was LSD in the punch at the fair and the both of us are having a very bad trip."

"Should we….."

"WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! WAHHHHHHHHHHHH!" came a loud wailing.

The two of them closed their mouths and just listened.

"WAHHHHHHHHHHH! WAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

"Oh My God that….that sounded like a baby" said Martha as she quickly undid her belt buckle and opened her door.

"MARTHA WAIT!" Jonathan shouted as he saw her run past the pick-up truck and towards the spaceship. He gritted his teeth and undid his buckle and opened his door.

Field

Martha ran towards the field and she could feel the heat radiating from the area but the sounds of a baby crying spurred her forward. She continued to run but she slowly came to a stop once she was in front of the downed spaceship.

"MARTHA!" came Jonathan's voice as he came up behind her, "What do you think you're doing!" he exclaimed.

"Jonathan, there is a baby crying coming from…."

"WAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!' came the wail again.

Jonathan and Martha turned towards the ship and they both saw what looked like a destroyed ramp that led into the ship's interior where they could hear the crying. Martha turned to him and he pursed his lips together before taking her by the hand. She gripped his hand and together they both ventured towards the ramp.

Jor-El's Ship- Interior

Jonathan and Martha carefully moved through the alien ship, sparks were flying in some areas while the ground was littered with singed metal and burned crystals.

"WAHHHH!"

The wonder of the spaceship was on their minds but the sound of the crying baby is what spurred the young couple forward.

"WAHH!"

The sound was getting closer with each step they took.

"WAHH!"

"WAHHHHH!"

"WAHHHHH!"

Jonathan and Martha found themselves in front of a broken stasis pod that held the crying baby Kal-El. Martha gasped as she saw the baby and the tiny bits of crystal glass that was on him. She quickly moved away from Jonathan and over to the baby where she gently wiped the glass away from him and picked him up red blanket and all and held him up.

"WAHHH!" Kal-El screamed at the top of his lungs.

Martha smiled and brought him close to her chest, keeping him there….close to her heart where he could hear her strong and steady heart.

"There…There…it's all right, you're safe now" She cooed softly, "Oh My God Jonathan, it's a baby boy." she whispered while looking up to her husband.

Kal-El continued to cry but the longer Martha held him there the softer and softer his crying became until suddenly his crying stopped completely.

Jonathan looked at the baby and then towards the busted stasis pod. He peered inside and he saw two solid green crystals and some type of ripped cloth. Jonathan reached towards the items and he gently picked them up. He looked at the crystals intently and he noticed how cool to the touch they felt. They were light weight and they let off a slight sparkle. Jonathan turned his attention away from the crystal and to the ripped cloth, he turned it over and that's when he saw the crest…the House of El crest complete with the stylized red S on a yellow diamond shaped background.

"My God is right" he whispered back to his wife, "Look at this Martha…what the hell is this?"

"I-I don't know" she replied.

Jonathan moved towards her and right as he reached her the green crystals in his hand began to glow. The Kent's stood there in the ship with Kal-El staring at the brilliant green glow of the crystals. Jonathan looked at the crystals and then at the baby in his wife's arms. He slowly took the crystals away and they stopped glowing; he narrowed his eyes and brought the crystals back towards Kal-El and once again the crystals began to glow.

"What….What is this? Some type of government experiment?" she questioned.

Jonathan shook his head.

"Martha, I highly doubt that the US government or any government on Earth has been cooking something like this up…this is….beyond." He replied while moving the crystals away from Kal-El and stopping the bright glowing.

Martha looked down at Kal-El who was staring back at her.

"So, he's from outer space? He's an alien?"

"I think it would be safe to assume that he is." He replied, while looking around the ship, "Okay, put him down…we have to get out of here."

"What!?" she exclaimed "Why?"

"Because if he's from outer space then that means his family might come looking for him."

Martha looked at Kal-El again and she shook her head.

"I don't think he's got any family Jonathan."

"What makes you say that?"

"I-I don't know…..I just look at him and…I feel; can't you feel it Jonathan. I mean look at him and then look around, do you really think his family would just send him off without going themselves."

Jonathan eyed the small baby in her arms, he looked at him and as he was doing that Kal-El's eyes shifted to him. The two looked at each other and Kal-El raised his small arms and Jonathan couldn't help but smile at the motion.

Martha saw the exchange and she heaved a sigh.

"He's all alone Jonathan."

"You're right…he is, he is all alone. He doesn't have anyone."

"…He does now, he's got us."

Jonathan recoiled a bit at her statement and he looked her in the eyes.

"You want to keep him" he said more than asked.

"I do" she replied with conviction "I do want to keep him, I mean what's the alternative, we leave him here for the government to find. They find him and do horrible experiments on him and…."

"Martha, I think you're watching too much TV" Jonathan interrupted.

"Whatever, all I know is that when the Men in Black get here this baby won't be here waiting."

Jonathan rubbed his eyes.

"Martha, what will we tell people….he's from outer space and that we found him in a field."

Martha smirked and she stared down at Kal-El who looked up at her.

"I don't think we found him Jonathan…..I think he found us." She replied before turning her eyes back to her husband, "You remember what Bill said don't you? Everything happens for a reason"

Jonathan heaved a sigh and he shook his head and he smiled a little.

"We better hurry. I'm sure the Men in Black have radar or something that can detect alien spaceships, so they'll be swarming on us and…the baby soon. Let's go."

10 Minutes Later- On the road

Jonathan drove down the road as quickly as he could but he made sure to keep to the speed limit so as to not attract too much attention. Every few seconds he would glance in the mirror to make sure that no one was following them and thankfully there was no one behind him.

Jonathan glanced to the right and at Martha who had Kal-El tucked close to her. He had the crystals and crest tucked neatly into his jacket.

"How's the baby doing Martha?"

"He's fine…I think he might be hungry"

"We have plenty of milk at the farm for him to drink."

"I wonder can he drink earth milk?" she questioned.

"I guess we'll find out if he can"

"You know we're going to have to name him Jonathan"

Jonathan looked at her.

"What name fits a baby from outer space Martha?" he asked with a bit of humor.

Martha smiled as she poked Kal-El in the stomach which earned a small giggle.

"We can name him after my father."

"William?" Jonathan questioned.

"Clark" She corrected "My father used to always like for people to call him Clark. So we can call him Clark."

Jonathan thought it over for a second before he smiled.

"Clark Kent…has a nice ring to it" he said.

"I thought you might like it."

Jonathan reached over towards Clark and he tickled his stomach a bit which earned another giggle.

"Welcome to Smallville, Clark…..and welcome to the family"
