Chapter 1

Best Night Ever I

" You sure we're going the right way?"

Zachary asked his friend Phil. Today was the seventeenth birthday of Zachary Lynch, a young boy living in Willomont. His mother was out visiting a group of friends in Chicago, and wouldn't be back until next week. So Zach was left to spend it alone until his friends Phil, Greg, and Katie invited him to a party downtown. It was an end of the school year party hosted by the "cool" kids of Willomont High, and everyone was welcome to join. Zachary however is a little anxious. He wasn't used to going to big events like this.

"I'm sure, Zach. It's right down this way!"

Phil answered back as he turned around to face him. "If we keep walking, we'll get there in no time!"

"That's what you said twenty minutes ago."

"Dude, Willomont is a huge-ass town. It's going to take us awhile to get there. Not to mention you live right on the edge of the city when Sydney's house is on the other side."

"Point taken."

The group stops at an road intersection. It is littered with cars moving back and forth towards their destination. Greg pushes a large red button for the crosswalk. He turned his face towards the group and asks them

"So what do you guys plan doing over there?"

Phil responded first as he smiled.

"I'm going to ask out Jenny, finally! I feel this is going to be the night!"

"Yeah, like she's going to go out with a guy who can't find his own job!" Katie responded jokingly.

"Just because I can't get a job doesn't mean I can't get a date, Katie!"

The two teased each other as the crosswalk sign blinked to the white walking man symbol, allowing the gang to continue their pace. Zach's mind focused on the party. He hadn't attended such a big event before, so the anxiety started to flood him like a tsunami. What would it be like there, and was it going to be like what he saw on tv? Those shows where they have grand parties of teenagers getting drunk and sleeping with each other in the upstairs bedrooms. And then in the middle of the night the cops come over and shut the place down. Zach wondered about it until Greg broke his train of thought.

"So Zach, have you heard about the recent disappearances in DC?"

"Huh?" Zach spun his head around in confusion. "Oh yeah, I did. Why?"

"Well, it seems that other major cities around the world are experiencing the same thing. Moscow had five people up and gone, Tokyo twelve, London ten, and just yesterday Chicago reported one incident too. It's pretty weird how it's all over the world."

"...I see."

Zachary immediately remembered her mother. Now that the disappearances showed up there, was she going to be safe? What if she does vanish, could someone find her? These scenarios of his spiraled in a loopy-loop. Greg noticed his worry and tried his best to give a comforting smile.

"Hey, don't worry. I'm sure your mom's going to be fine. These incidents are reported to happen to people who travel alone at night, so I don't think that she's going to be in trouble as long as she stays with her friends."

Zach smiled a little.

"I know Greg. But still, I can't help but think about it."

"Yeah, I guess it's pretty scary how this is happening huh? Well anyhow, I think we're getting close to Sydney's house."

As Greg walked closer to the other two, Zach took out his cell phone. The time was 9:15 PM. Zach was planning to go home before two am since he had to pick up his dog Reina from his next door neighbor.

Good, I still have four hours.

His shoes scraped the pavement alongside the sidewalk. He planned to just have a good time with his friends before summer vacation starts.

Unbeknownst to him however, someone was spying the group from the rooftop of a grocery nearby. The moonlight gleams off the scope of his sniper rifle, while the rest of his figure is clothed in the darkness. Holding the rifle in his hands as he stands, he peers through the scope and is able to hear the conversation.

"A party, huh?" he talked to himself as he lowered his weapon. He stroked his chin with his strong firm hands. He chuckled: "Sounds like fun".

The crew had walked for about five more minutes until they spotted green and purple lights dancing in above the clouds. Phil's eyes brighten up: he quickly ran down the road, urging the others to run over. The other three dashed past all the cars, motorcycles, and even a giant mountain truck that hogged most of the road as it was stationed firmly in the ground. As they ran, Zach noticed a dark brown Santa Fe parked near the front gate. He recognized the little dog plushie sitting on top of the steering wheel. The fluffy light brown Labrador staring out the front window with its button eyes and pink tongue sticking out.

That's...Kevin's? I thought he had to work tonight? Zach thought as he sped by.

"We're finally here guys." Phil spoke as if he were the owner of the white marble mansion that towered over them. The green and purple lights surrounding the front yard made for an lovely atmosphere. "Welcome to the biggest event of our lives."

The four walked through the front gate and strolled down the walkway, passing by the large assortment of garden flowers. They were as excited as children on Christmas morning. All four of them were planning to make this a night to look back at when they sat in their rocking chairs on a front porch, hair graying in the sunlight.

If only they knew of what would transpire...
