"So, where should I start?" Eren asked his 'sister'.
"Well you can start with what you think has happened so far in your life until now."
"Okay, so like what I said before you, Armin, and I are best friends. I joined the militarily when I came of age. You and Armin followed me. We then, eventually, found out I was a titan shifter. Then we entered the Survey Corps. As you can tell, I'm trying not to make all of this long," Eren interrupted himself and then continued on.
"After that, we didn't really spend much time together anymore, since I always had to be by Heichou's side. Then the next thing I know it we are so close to defeating the titans, and Armin, Jean, and you die. Then, when I was supposed to die, I ended up in the hospital...So, yeah." Eren awkwardly finished looking at Mikasa as she looked at their history book.
"Well you just explained the section on you in this There is something that seems a bit off here. How did humanity win exactly?" Mikasa questioned.
"I don't know, like I said, I was supposed to die around the time you guys did. I think Levi heichou felt extremely sad after losing his new squad. After all, he did lose all his friends when the Female Titan was trying to get me."
"I see, well, we should probably ask Mr. Rivaille about it tomorrow. One more question, how did you get here?"
"Well, I was right about to die, then I woke up here...I don't really know."
"Okay then, is there anything else you want to tell me?"
"N-no, why?"
"Well, I was hoping you would explain why you are so interested in Armin. I'm also curious as to what happened between you two in the past. I'm guessing you really loved him, but since he was already with Jean, you allowed them to be together so you wouldn't ruin his happiness."
"H-HOW DID YOU KNOW THAT!?"
"Well your actions say so, also I heard what you said in the hospital; I just wanted to confirm."
"Okay, b-besides what you've told me so far, what else has happened in this crazy world?"
"Well, from what I've told you everything is different. As you can see your, or rather, our father owns the Jaeger Hospital. As for the things we have in this century, I think I'll explain them to you when you come across them. Therefore I will have to be by your side more. And, well, how do I explain this...?"
"Explain what?" Eren tilted his head curiously.
"W-well...y-your mother..." Mikasa trailed off, she knew Eren was aware his mother was dead in his reality; however, she feared that he still had the false hope of her being alive in this new reality. Placing a hand on Mikasa's shoulder, Eren looked her straight in the eye.
"Mikasa I know, I wouldn't have expected her to be. What did she die from in this reality?" Eren asked with a hint of sadness in his voice.
"A car accident."
"So she died from the carriage sent from Satan...I now see how dangerous this world is."
"The world is merciless, but it is also very beautiful."
"Still the same ol' Mikasa." Eren stated, as he wrapped his arms around Mikasa. In shock for a mere second, Mikasa hugged Eren back. A small smile formed on her face. Resting her forehead on his shoulder, they stayed there for a second, before breaking apart.
"Let's go eat dinner, I still can't believe I can eat as much as I want!?"
"We aren't in the ancient times."
"You know, I think I like how lazy I can be in this time, I actually feel like a kid for once."
"I'm glad you'll be able to adapt."
The walk home was awkward. That is how Armin, Jean, and Marco described it. No one talked, and no one tried to make eye contact. The scraping of their feet, dragging the ground, and small huffs as they walked were all the sounds that they made. Marco looked at his two friends, observing as a blush graced both of their faces.
Sighing, Marco only hoped his friends would notice each other's feelings, so that they all could be happy. Deciding it was time for someone to talk, Marco spoke first.
"Man, you guys are lucky, I was forever alone!"
"M-Marco, I'm sure the past doesn't tell our future, in this life you could be with someone like...JEAN!" Armin stated hopefully, explaining what he thought of all of this as well.
"Y-yeah, I mean it would suck if we all died somehow, even when there are no titans." Jean added.
"Y-yeah, Jeans right!" Looking up Armin and Jean's eyes met again, just like before they tried to avoid each other's gaze.
"I guess you two are right, but as for now our past looks like it's right on our tails. I mean you guys are acting like love struck teens. Oh, wait, you are." Marco gave a closed eye smile. He nervously scratched his chin, blushing from embarrassment.
"It's okay Marco, we promised we wouldn't date until we were out of college. We don't want to leave you alone." Jean placed a comforting hand on Marco's shoulder, which made the other smile as a response.
"Yeah, best friends forever!" Armin added, as he punched Marco's shoulder playfully.
"Then do me a favor, can we act like it was before that class?" Marco inquired.
"Sure!" Armin and Jean responded as the three laughed. "
-Next Morning-
When the day turned into night, and the night into day, Armin yet again woke up from his reoccurring dreams. Opening his eyes slowly, Armin waited for the rest of his body to wake up. No matter how tired he was, Armin had to force himself up, so he wouldn't be late to class yet again. Peeling himself off of his covers, Armin yawned, using his hand to cover his mouth.
"I really hope I'm not the only with these dreams...Even if Mr. Rivaille said everyone was going to regain their memories eventually, why am I the first one to start getting them?" Armin pondered, as he slowly walked towards the bathroom. Feeling as though his eyes were going to close again, Armin allowed them to close half way, to help them adjust to the sudden awakening of the rest of his body.
Once he was close enough to the bathroom, Armin ensured he was the loudest thing in the world at that moment in order to wake his friends. Leaning back a bit, Armin kicked the unlocked door open, allowing him inside. Looking at the dark room, Armin slammed his hand on the light switch, before kicking the door behind him close.
Soon enough Armin looked at himself in the mirror. His hair was everywhere. In some places it was curly and in others it was straight. Groaning, Armin then took his tooth brush into his hand. Applying his toothpaste, he started to do his usual routine: Brushing his teeth, washing his face, and trying to fix his hair.
Once he was finished, Armin repeated his aggressive gestures as he exited the bathroom.
"OKAY ARMIN, WE GET IT! WE'RE UP!" Both his roommates yelled at him. Armin walked to the kitchen to fix himself something to eat. Eventually time passed and everyone was ready to start their walk to school.
"Does everyone have what they need?" Jean asked, before he started to close their door.
"Nope~!"
"Okay, then I'm going to close the door now."
"Jean!" Armin shouted.
"Yeah?"
"I-I have to get something from the library, so you and Marco go ahead of me."
"We could just go with you, you know."
"N-No, I need to do this myself."
"Alright then, come on Marco..." Waving goodbye to each other, Armin departed from his group and started to head towards the library. The reason why he had to go alone was because he needed to pick up a book, and not just any book.
The book Armin wanted to pick up was something that made him think about his grandfather, and it was also embarrassing. The book's title was The Wolf That Fell in Love with Little Red Riding Hood. Most boys never really took a liking to fairy tale romances. His grandfather use to read him fairy tales all the time, because as he grew older, he thought Armin turned into a little girl. Though it was a bit offensive, Armin let it pass, because he loved the stories so much. Though Jean and Marco were like family to him, he still couldn't allow them to know his love for romance.
In secret, Armin would watch romantic dramas and research what it would be like to be in love. This also contributed to how he never really got any sleep. Speed walking to the library, Armin could not contain his excitement; he had been waiting for three months for the book to be returned. The fairy tale in question was not commonly seen in stores since it was made by a 'nobody'.
As the library came more and more into view, Armin's heart raced, and his smile grew. The second he entered the library, he asked the librarian about the book he had reserved and she gave it to him telling him the due date. Thanking the woman, Armin clenched the book in his hands and gave it a hug.
"Finally, I've been waiting so long! This book is the only thing in my life that can help me escape the real world." Opening the book carefully, He began to read the book as he walked towards the school, completely ignoring the fact that he was going to be late.
"Aw man! Mikasa left without me, and she just said she was going to stick by me. Maybe she is going to tell Levi about my condition..." Eren instituted, as he walked with his bag slung across his shoulder.
Walking at his own pace, Eren saw someone about twenty feet away. Squinting his eyes to see the person's figures more, Eren saw that it was no other than Armin, with his nose in a book as usual. He tried to get closer without being noticed. Peeking behind a tree Eren saw Armin stop for a second to see where he was. This gave him the opportunity to see what he was reading.
Squinting his eyes yet again, Eren saw that he was reading a fairy tale. Smiling to himself, Eren was glad that Armin never changed.
"Same as always, you always were a sucker for romance." Right as Armin was about to start to get a move on again, Eren made sure that he was in plain sight. Something told him that he had to watch the blonde or something bad would have happened.
Now they were in front of the school's gates, feeling as though he overreacted a bit, Eren was just about to give away his location when three boys approached Armin.
Hiding behind the first tree Eren observed from afar. Taking not to the fact he could no longer hear what the other boys were saying to Armin, the brunette ran behind a different tree that was much closer to the scene.
"Whatcha readin'!?" The first one said, as they took the book out of Armin's hands.
"Hey give it back you jerk that's from the library, you know the place you never go to!"
"Oh, looks like the little girl wants her book back! Too bad princess, we're never giving it back!" The second one stated.
"I'm not a girl, I'm a boy. Now if you're looking for attention may I suggest the zoo? I hear they are looking for a new bunch of hippos," Armin retorted.
"Oh, you did not just say that." The third one added in.
In a flash the first one who spoke grabbed Armin's hair and brought the shorter boy to his level of sight, so that they were looking at each other.
"What did you just say to us?"
"You heard me, now run along before the zoo keeper has to get the darts to put you guys to sleep!" Armin spat at the boy, before kicking him in his private regions and grabbing the book. After that he did the same to the other two, so that it was not easy for the rest of them to catch up to him as he ran. Armin ran as fast as he could, however eventually the bullies caught up to him.
Swiftly they grabbed him by his jacket and threw him against the wall. They stomped on his book, before beginning to kick him repeatedly when he was down. Armin whimpered and tried his best to fight back, only to cave into the pain that was being inflicted upon him.
Just when he thought he was going to pass out from all the blows he had received, he heard someone scream a battle cry and attack the three boys. Though his vision was a bit blurry, Armin could barely see what was happening, but he knew someone was beating up his bullies for him.
When all of them were down, the person protecting him stood in front of Armin and extended his arms out to make sure he was able to get them if they got up again.
"Armin are you alright?" Eren asked as he glanced over his shoulder.
"E-Eren!?" Armin asked weakly, hissing as he got up, he used the wall for support.
"Let me help you." Eren turned around, as he held his hand out to Armin. Armin simply looked at the hand and picked up his book examining its sad condition. Adjusting how he looked, he ignored the fact that Eren was trying to help him, and turned around to make it to class.
Though he would admit it was a dumb move on his part, Armin thought class was far more important than his health. Walking to his classroom was difficult since he could barely see or walk properly. Eren remained behind Armin, ensuring that he would be there to catch him if he were to fall. Even if Eren could not be there for Armin, let alone be in the same place because Armin didn't trust him, he would still be there.
Reaching for the classroom door Eren made sure Armin wouldn't open it since his hands had gotten scraped quite a bit when he slipped as he prepared himself for his fall earlier. Thanking Eren with a nod, Armin proceeded to enter the classroom. The second he did so, all eyes were in shock as the class observed Armin's wounds.
"I-I'm sorry I'm late heichou, I had trouble with other trainee members from other squads." Armin mindlessly replied with a smile as Eren came in after him. From the looks of it, both of them were roughed up and injured, but Armin was a more serious case.
"YOU HURT HIM EREN! YOU'RE A DEAD MAN!" Jean yelled as he stomped towards Armin and Eren.
"NO I DIDN'T! I SAVED HIM YOU STUPID HORSE FACED B***!"
"HOW CAN I BELIEVE YOU AFTER WHAT YOU DID TO HIM WHEN WE WERE GROWING UP!"
"YEAH HOW CAN WE!?" Marco added in, looking just as angry as Jean.
"EREN WOULDN'T DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT ANYMORE. HE'S CHANGED!" Mikasa added onto the yelling as she came to Eren's defense. Both sides began to fight loudly, completely ignoring the main problem at hand. Armin listened in as they all fought over who truly was to blame. In the time this fight was commencing, Levi tried to get everyone to calm down.
"S-Stop...S-Stop Jean p-please...He's m-my..." Armin struggled to speak as he stood between Jean and Eren. Pressing his hands against both male's chest, Armin got their attention.
"J-Jean...," Armin began and ended as he collapsed to the floor. Eren caught him in time, shaking Armin's body lightly.
"ARMIN! ARMIN ARE YOU OKAY!?" Eren exclaimed trying to get Armin to wake up.
"CALM DOWN, HE JUST FAINTED! BOTT TAKE HIM TO THE INFIRMARY, JAEGER ACKERMAN, AND KIRSTEIN COME TO DETENTION AFTER SCHOOL!" Levi exclaimed to the fighting teens. All of the students looked at Levi with frightened expressions, thanking their lucky stars it wasn't them they were talking to.
Eren gently handed Armin to Marco who carried him bridal style to the infirmary. The students, that now had detention, silently made their way to their seats and joined the rest of the class.
-Armin's dream-
"W-where am I?" Armin asked himself, as he woke up in what seemed to be a cabin. "Is there anyone here!?" He called out, hoping that someone would respond to him.
"Armin, sweetie, come here." He heard a female yell from the kitchen. Freezing in his spot for a second, Armin remembered that voice. Bolting to the kitchen, he slammed the door open to see no other than his mother. Feeling the tears form in his eyes, Armin bit his lip to prevent them from falling.
"Y-yes mother," He responded to her earlier demand with a shaky voice. Turning to see her son, the short blond woman walked over to her son with concerned eyes.
"Oh Armin, are you alright? It looks like you're about to cry." She asked as she cupped her son's cheek with her gentle hand.
"C-can I have a h-hug?" Armin stuttered as he hugged his mother's torso and lightly sobbed into it. Accepting the hug, she held her son close to her and stroked his hair slowly.
"Now what's wrong my Little Red, why are you crying?"
"I-It's just really n-nice to see you again."
"Awww, I've always been here. You've just been sleeping for too long, now please dry those tears and do mommy a favor."
"A-Anything."
"Take this basket to your grandfather's, he is sick and I need you to watch him for a few days."
"G-GRANDPA'S SICK!? W-WHAT DOES HE HAVE, I-IS HE ALRIGHT!?"
"Little Red, please calm down he's fine. I would offer to do it, but I can't navigate my way through the woods. Also there are many wolves."
"N-No, I-I'll do it, I'll be the man! W-where's dad?"
"He's out in the market selling goods."
"O-Oh okay..."
"Don't worry, we'll be here when you come back; I promise."
Nodding his head, Armin accepted the basket and the red cape from his mother's hands. Armin stopped by the door's frame and got one last glance of his mother.
"It was nice to see you again, mother." Armin muttered to himself before he was gone. Walking through the woods for a few hours, Armin stopped to realize he had no clue where his grandpa's house was in the first place. Panicking, Armin tried looked everywhere for someone to help guide him through the woods he so carelessly wondered through.
Meanwhile, his unavoidable scene commenced that second. From far away, a young wolf hybrid boy saw a spot of red fleeting into the woods. This wolf had followed him for quite a while, feeling as though it was his duty to make sure this person got through safely. This wolf hybrid had brown hair, green eyes, and tanned skin. His name, Eren, his age was about the same compared to this person cloaked in red.
Armin, who now gave up hope on finding anyone, continued to walk slowly. That is until he saw a dark shadow. Feeling as though it was going to be the start of something terrible, he ran away frightened. Running as fast as he could, Armin found that there were arrows leading his way to his grandfather's house. Thanking his lucky star, he sprinted off, making sure to identify every arrow in sight.
On the other hand, the wolf that was following him noticed that this person who he has yet to meet decided to follow the arrows towards a house. The blonde's decision was not wrong, however in a metaphorical way it was, for it lead to his house as well. Running and making sure he was kept in the shadows, Eren followed this new person to see that he made it towards his friendly old neighbor.
Watching as this unknown person fled inside, he stood out a few feet away talking to himself, for there were no others around.
"I want to meet him, and I want to talk to him, but it's unthinkable...You seem delicate, and I'm dangerous. This meeting only has one ending..." Eren stated before sadly walking to his home, which was a few feet away, hidden behind a forest of trees.
The next day, Eren was out hunting for food, when all of the sudden, he saw that same red cloak move at the corner of his eyes. Knowing that the person he wanted to meet was there, he returned to the same route they had taken the previous day. Like the last time, Eren couldn't do anything but watch as Armin was walking peacefully through the woods in search of herbs to help his grandfather's health.
Crouching down once again, Armin collected more herbs and roots that were along the routes' side as he hummed a little tune, so that he wouldn't get bored. Yet again, Armin could see something hiding behind the tree. Unsure of who or what it was, Armin chose to ignore it the best he could, so he wouldn't frighten himself if he were to look.
After about an hour of hearing the shuffles of someone watching him, Armin shot up and looked at the tree Eren was currently behind.
"Who are you? Why are you spying on me?" Armin yelled out loud for Eren to hear. However being careful, Eren didn't respond to Armin's words. He knew if he did, the blonde would only ask for what he looked like, and then everything would have gone downhill.
"Well aren't you gonna show yourself? It's kind of creepy that you're watching me!" Armin shouted once more only to get the same results. Sighing, Armin continued to what he was doing. Behind him a gust of wind came and he immediately turned to see a message in the dirt.
My name is Eren. It stated simply.
"E-Eren, are you going to hurt me?" Armin then put his hood on, covering his eyes, so that the other could respond to his question. After yet another gust of wind alerted Armin of the other's actions, He removed the hood and read the words yet again, keeping it in mind that he would have to repeat this procedure as he talked to the other.
I wouldn't allow myself to, you're delicate and I'm dangerous. If anything goes wrong I'll protect you.
"Why would you want to do that? You just met me?"
I want to be your friend.
"Then can I see what my friend looks like?"
No.
"Why not?"
Because you would only be scared of me.
"I promise I wouldn't, I'm not one to judge."
I'm sorry.
"Fine then, but why?"
It is just a feeling, so since I stick to instinct I'll follow it; it's never failed me.
"Alright, uhh, Eren. I'm Armin."
It's nice to meet you, Armin.
"What are you doing around here? Last time I checked, my grandfather had no neighbors."
I live in the woods, deep in the woods.
"Oh, I guess it gets lonely."
Kind of, how long are you staying?
"Until my grandfather gets better, I'm collecting herbs as medicine for him."
Oh do you need help?
"No I'm fine, but I have to leave soon."
Oh, well, I'll be around if you need me.
"Okay, but don't sneak up on me or I'll get scared."
Okay, well then I'll see you.
"You too, it was nice to sort of meet you." Turning around, Armin adjusted his hood and proceeded to his grandfather's house as Eren watched. As the weeks passed on into months, Armin and Eren's friendship grew stronger, along with a few other emotions. Though Eren couldn't directly meet, talk, or touch Armin, he settled with what he could do with his floor messages.
No matter how many times Eren or Armin prayed to their god, they knew they could never to add onto Eren's misery. He now resented his claws and fangs from keeping him away from the boy in the red, who still had no clue of what Eren looked like. However, he could always imagine with descriptions the other gave him. Their happiness lasted for a long time, that is until one day.
Armin came into the woods with his hood over his head, and his shoulders shrugged forward sniffling. Sitting by the tree he and Eren would always talk by, Armin leaned against it crying. Eren came behind Armin slowly, making sure to make noise so he wouldn't scare the other. Hearing this, Armin shot his head towards the sound and cried more.
What's wrong? Eren wrote on the ground.
"M-My...M-My-..." Armin couldn't even continue his sentence as he choked on his words.
Is it your grandfather?
Armin nods in reply.
I'm really sorry...Is it okay if I hug you? Eren wrote down nervously wondering how Armin would take it. He knew that the blonde knew he wasn't exactly human, but he still thought maybe it was too soon, since the boy's grandfather did just die.
Looking at Armin's face once more, Eren saw the smaller boy nod his head as he wiped his tears and snot on his signature red cape. At first, Eren was in complete shock, but then he realized he was finally going to be able to touch Armin and maybe allow him to hear his voice. Now overjoyed and nervous, Eren slowly made his way past the tree that was separating Armin and him.
From behind, Eren slowly wrapped his arms around Armin as carefully as he could, "I'm so sorry," Eren murmured into Armin's ear. Gasping for a moment, Armin looked down to hands that were fairly tanned with nails as sharp as a knife.
"T-that's the first t-time I-I've ever heard you." Armin replied as he hugged Eren's arms trying to bring the other closer so he could be comforted.
"I know, I've been meaning to show you what I look and sound like, but I was afraid. I also knew you were under so much a stress about your grandfather I couldn't have you fainting once you saw me. I wanted to make sure you were okay, so saying it in words is easier than writing it down."
"W-what am I suppose t-to do now!? W-what am I going to tell my mother, I-I was suppose to take care of him."
"And you did, he was old. At least he got to spend his last days with you."
"G-Grandpaaaa!" Armin screamed as he turned around to bury his face into Eren's chest and cried some more. As time passed, Eren still sat there and hugged Armin as he calmed down. Eventually his tears dried up and now the two were quiet.
"Eren what are you?" Armin asked curiously as he let out a yawn.
"I'm a-..."
"WOLF!" Someone yelled as they raced towards the two, plucking Armin out of Eren's hold.
"J-Jean!?" Armin yelled out, surprised he existed in this world.
"Stay away from him, you beast!" Jean yelled ignoring Armin.
"Damn, not you again, stupid horse faced hunter."
"How dare you try to eat my BOYFRIEND!"
"BOYFRIEND!?" Armin and Eren yelled in unison.
"Yeah, you heard me, stupid wolf! I'll end you right now!"
"J-Jean please d-don't Eren's my friend, he wasn't trying to hurt me."
"Like Hell he is!"
"He's telling the truth, horse face. Why don't you just deal with the fact that Armin likes me better."
"Hell no, he likes me, not you!"
"As if, look at you. I bet you I can make him happier than you."
"No you can't."
"Yes I can, in fact I was comforting him when his 'boyfriend' wasn't here."
"I was just huntin' things..."
"Ha! We both know that's a bunch of BS."
"Guys...," Armin tried to interrupt but the two kept fighting, "Guys?" Getting fed up with the two, Armin found a tall boulder to climb on until he was about two feet taller than both boys in front of him.
"SHUT IT!" Armin exclaimed as loud as he could, shutting the quarreling two entirely. "I-I don't really know what's gotten into you two, but stop fighting! Jean, Eren wasn't trying to hurt me, he was just comforting me because my grandfather just passed. A-And Eren-..." He paused to take a good look at Eren's features before continuing on. In the heat of the moment, Armin had never gotten a good look at his friend.
"P-please don't fight with Jean, it was a misunderstanding. Wouldn't you react the same way if it was vice versa?"
"Vice whatta?"
"Versa, it means the other way around."
"W-well yeah..."
"A-anyways, please stop f-fighting. If not for each other, then for me..."
"Fine," they replied as they rolled their eyes. With a sigh of relief, Armin tried to carefully come down from the boulder. However his footing was off and he instead fell forward. Watching as this happened, Jean and Eren rushed in front of the rock to catch Armin. Who Armin was saved by was a mystery, because his brain was now waking up.
Taking note that he couldn't really breathe, Armin opened his eyes as he propped himself up on his arms. What he was saw was not something pleasant in his point of view. Right in front of him, was no other than Eren Jaeger, but that wasn't the only thing Armin noticed. He noticed that Eren was too close for comfort, only to realize with widened eyes one thing.
Eren Jaeger was kissing him, while at the corner of his eye Jean was about to punch the other.
What happened while I was unconscious?
