Elphaba grabbed her bag and walked toward our new room, when she saw me. "You were spying on me," she accused me. I looked at her and said, "No, I wasn't." "Yes, you were," she shot back. She stalked off to our room and I ran after her. When we were a few feet away from the door of our new room, I said, "Elphaba, wait." She spun and snapped, "What do you want, Galinda?" "Okay, fine, yes, I did spy on you. I can't help it—you know how hard it is for us to be separated—and I really am happy for you since you're meeting the Wizard and everything..." I was babbling. I felt Elphaba enter my mind, searching for some trace of insincerity. Elphaba, please believe me,I thought to my twin. I closed my eyes and Elphaba dragged me into the room. I do, Galinda—it's just you've never been nice to me—so this is different. I heard.
I nodded weakly and we both collapsed on one of the two beds in the room. I poked her—Elphaba, I was wondering. Do you think we should write to Momsie and Popsical? I dunno. I guess so. If you think it's a good idea—just don't mention the scare on the train—we don't need to give them a heart attack I agree, green bean, I thought, not even realizing that I'd just insulted my sister, until she suddenly sprang up and slapped me. "Ow!" I shrieked. "Galinda, how could you?" Elphaba asked me, fighting tears. "How could I what?" I asked. "You called me green bean—I thought we were going to become friends." she said, still trying not to cry. "No, I didn't," I protested. "Not out loud—you thought it," she accused me. I reached to hug her and said, "Elphaba, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to. It just slipped out. Please, forgive me." Elphaba yanked away from me and said, "No. I can't forgive you, Galinda. I'm going for a walk." Elphaba stormed out of the room and didn't even look at me—not caring if I watched her leave or not.
I watched my sister leave and thought, this is all my fault. Fighting tears, I sat down on the bed, and thought, Elphaba, please come back. I'm scared. I heard only silence in response to my pleas—normally, Elphaba would always come back when I got scared and asked her to come back. I waited a few more minutes, before leaving the room to find someone who'd help me find my sister.
