The Untold Secret

Chapter 3

"April, hey you ok?" asked Meredith, as April came into the residents lounge.

"Have you seen Jackson anywhere?" asked April, tears pooling in her eyes.

"I think he's in the ER why don't you just page him?" asked Meredith.

April nodded numbly and pulled her pager out to do exactly that.

"If I bump into him I'll tell him you're looking for him," smiled Meredith, as she exited the room.

Minutes after a page from April and Meredith telling Jackson that April seemed upset Jackson rushed into the residents lounge.

"Hey what's up?" he asked, as he sat on the couch next to April.

"I shouldn't be getting upset about this I really shouldn't but damn I am because I'm me and I get upset. I caught my car coming into the parking garage," she cried. "Dent front left side tiny portion of paint of as well. That's the third time in two weeks I've had a scrape Jackson."

"I know," whispered Jackson, pulling her close. "How about we go look at it and then I phone the guy who fixed up my car when I backed it into a lamp post last year."

April nodded and followed Jackson down to the parking garage.

He snapped a picture and sent to his friend.

"I reckon he'll be able to put his hand behind that panel and push it back out. Then he'll spray it and he can spray the other to little marks at the same time. Seventy dollars top," smiled Jackson.

"Will you drive me home later. I know I finish two hours later than you but I really don't think I can drive today," whispered April.

"I ran in today. But I can drive yours home I'll be careful," said Jackson.

April nodded.

Lunch time comes round and April nips down to get her purse from her car. Her car is gone.

"Jackson my car is gone," said April.

"That guy came for it should be fixed by tomorrow," smiled Jackson.

"Oh," said April.

"Yeah seventy dollars tops," smiled Jackson. "That's cuz he owes me remember we saved his wife's life a couple of years."

April nodded.

"Why don't we get some lunch?" asked Jackson.

April nodded.

"Or do you want to go lay down?" asked Jackson.

April shrugged.

"Why don't you go lie down," suggested Jackson.

April nodded.

"You want me to come with you?" asked Jackson. April looked him. "Nothing is going to happen you just look like you need a good hug."

April nodded and just as they entered an on call room Jackson's pager went off.

"Go to sleep I'll come find you later," whispered Jackson, pressing a kiss to April's forehead as she drifted off.

Jackson didn't get away from his patient - who was taken in surgery- until a couple hours later.

He quietly opened the door to the on- call room in case April was still asleep. There she was curled up on the bottom bunk back to the door.

"April," he whispered.

She didn't stir. He closed the door and it closed with what he thought was a resounding click. April groaned, stirred and sat up blearily eyed.

"April," he whispered.

"Jackson," she whispered.

"Yeah how you doing?" he asked, as he crossed the room to her.

"Feel better," she yawned.

"You look like you could do with a couple more hours," said Jackson.

"Probably," she yawned.

He toed of his sneakers and settled next to her.

"Where were you?" she asked, as she snuggled against him.

"I got pulled into surgery," he whispered.

She nodded and snuggled up next to drifting back off to sleep.

Just as he started to dose of, he heard the door handle. He leapt of the bed and hurried laid on the other bed, closing his eyes.

"April," came a voice, from the door frame.

"Hmm?" asked April.

"Rounds," said Meredith.

"Hmm or thanks," said April.

"No problem," said Meredith.

Just before they left the room Meredith noticed the trainers next to April's bed and her eyes drifted across the on-call room to Jackson sleeping form on the other bed.

"Why don't you wake Jackson and follow," smiled Meredith, as she closed the door.

"Jackson," whispered April.

"I heard," smiled Jackson. "I was awake. I just moved when I heard the door open." He grabbed his sneakers and pulled them on.

"Do you think Meredith thinks there's something between us?" asked April.

"Would it matter if she did?" asked Jackson.

"Not really no but it would be all over the hospital within ten minutes," said April.

"And my mother would know within the next day," said Jackson.

"Let's just wait to see if she says anything," said April.

Jackson nodded, kissed her and headed out leaving her stood there.

"Hey come on," he called, popping his head back round the door.

She took off after him.
