Chapter 17
Third Person
Location: SilverEarth Warehouse in Shallowside, Washington

"We are so dead," Artemis said, as she and Robin were propelling down the side of office warehouse.

"Only if someone chases us," Robin said, cutting out a portion of the window outside an office.

'Robin, you are going to jinx things being so cocky,' Wally commented via M'gann's mental link.

"Who's going to caught us," Robin said, climbing into the office.

"I'm not worried about that," Artemis said, swing into the office behind Robin.

"Why," Robin asked, walking over to wall of filing drawer.

"You forget that not all of us are bats. You sneak into a office surrounded by armed guards, and you get an allowance raise. I go to the movies and stay out to late, and I'm grounded for a month," Artemis said, looking out the window for guards.

'She speaks the truth.' Wally.

'I agree...Uncle J'ozz will be upset if he-' M'gann.

"First off, if I'm out late on patrol I get grounded; and secondly, no one knows we're here. Batman and them are all as some peace meeting in the middle of Asia, all the non-league parents think that there is a field trip or sleepover going one, and I hacked the security in the cave to replay us watching a movie if someone looks it up," Robin said, starting to pick the file lock.

'And when someone comes to check on us...in person' Wally.

"Pizza break," Robin sassed.

"At one o'clock in morning," Artemis shot.

'That isn't so strange for me.' Wally.

'I believe, focus on the task at hand would be a better use of time.' Kal'dur.

"I'm just saying some people don't have the guardians who would appreciate breaking and entering," Artemis huffed.

"From popular culture, I would think breaking into someone's office should top going out to the movie to go back to your beginning statement," a voice said from behind, as the lights came on.

"Shit..." Artemis said, notching her bow and turning around.

"Now we're in trouble," Robin said.

Third Person
Location: Happy Habor-Alex's House

A group of teenagers were in at Alexandra's living, planning their trip to the lake. It was going to be their kick-off to summer trip.

"Conner, I'm begging you please think about it," a boy with dark skin, dark brown eyes and elaborately styled brown hair styled in decorative cornrows. He has an oval face and knowing eyes, a small nose and a square jaw. He was 6' 1" with broad-shouldered. He was wearing a red and gold letterman's jacket with a white shirt and jeans.

"Micheal, read my lips...never gone happen," Conner, still in his disguise, said, with one arm over Alexandra's shoulder and the other petting Wolf, also in disguise, who was laying in his lap. They had taken the couch.

"But think about it...You, me, Isaac...we could dominate the field. Coach said you don't even have to try-out. Hell. He already ordered your uniform," Micheal said, throwing his hands up. He was standing in front of the television.

"Seriously," Alexandra asked, petting Wolf. Wolf was happy to lay there and get on the attention.

"Yes," Micheal said, fall back into the recliner, "He saw Conner tossing the football with us after school...He wants you on the team. I want to on the team. You have to be on the team."

"Micheal-" Conner started.

"Conner, just tell him him you'll think about it, so we can get back to planning the trip," Isaac said, eating some of the pizza rolls Alex's mom had made them before leaving for the store. He had olive skin, hazel eyes and short, wild dark brown hair. He had a wide face and a broad nose. He was 6' 1" and had a medium build. He was wearing a white wife-beater and black basketball shorts.

"Fine, if it will get you off my back," Conner said, sighing, "I'll think about it."

"Now, on to more important things," Alexandra said.

"Like what we are going to do at the lake next week," a girl with fair skin, hazel eyes and long, spiky black hair. She had dark eyes and a narrow nose. She was 5' 2" and had an athletic build. She was wearing an argyle tanktop, a pair of light green legging, and a pair of tennis shoes and holding a notepad.

"Kat, what the-" Micheal started.

"The deal, Micheal, is that is our trip before senior year..and it's Conner's first time going. It will be amazing, even if I have to duct tape your mouth the whole week," Kat(Katherine) said, glaring at her boyfriend.

"And since Nicole and her friends are take a road trip to go see colleges, we have it all to ourselves," Alexandra said.

"Which means it has to be extreme prefect," Kat said.

"Kitty-wat, take a chill pill," the last girl member of the group said, looking through a magazine from her place on the love seat. This girl had tan skin, green eyes and very long, fine brown hair pulled into a ponytail. She had a long face and slanted eyes, defined cheekbones and a round chin. She was 5' 5" and with an light build. She was wearing a black sundress with cutout boots and a green jacket.

"Stop calling me 'Kitty-wat', Erica," Kat said. Erica rolled her eyes and put down the magazine.

"We're going to go do the same thing we always do at the lake...swimming, eating, hanging out. Plus the guys might try to scare us like always," Erica said.

"Definitely," Micheal said, looking for a high five from Isaac, who raised his hand but stopped when he heard.

"High five him, and I'm break your nose," Erica said, not even looking at them, "There is nothing to plan.

"Violence, baby, I though we were against that," A boy said ask her entered the living room. He had hazel eyes, a dark complexion, and wavy auburn hair in a long braid. He is 6'3" and fairly muscular. He was wearing black pants and a red t-shirt.

"But I'm more so against stupidity, Jason," Erica said, as he joined her on the love seat.

"Can we please get back to planning," Kat said.

"Why doing you worry more on the essay quiz you have in Calculus tomorrow," Jason suggested.

"Why...Mr. Simons said nothing about anything like that," Kat said, throwing her notepad at Jason.

"He has in in the database," Jason said, reaching for the pizza rolls.

"The hacker-cheater has spoken, so it must be true," Micheal said, throwing up his hands.

"I don't cheat. I use technology to help me success," Jason said.

"But you could and even thought you don't, you still get better grades than me," Micheal said.

"Not my fault I'm awesome," Jason said, and laughed when a pillow hit him in the face.

"From popular culture, breaking into someone's office should top sneaking out to the movie to go back to your beginning statement," a voice said from behind, as the lights came on.

"Shit..." Artemis said, pulling up her bow and turning around.

"Now we're in trouble," Robin said.

"Not entirely," a woman said, standing in the door way.

"Who are you," Artemis said, keeping her bow raised.

"Chrystal Rosales, but that's not important," the woman said. This woman appeared to be early thirties and tan skin, violet eyes and long, wavy black hair. She was 5'3" and wearing a white lab coat over a purple dress with black heels. She looked tired with dark circles under her eyes.

"Then what is," Artemis asked. 'M'gann, who is this?'

'I don't know. I didn't sense anyone in the office. The Bio-Ship doesn't even sense anyone in the office.' M'gann paniced thoughts came through.

'You two need to get out.' Wally.

'No. She could know something.' Artemis.

'The risk is not worth it.' Kal'dur.

"Tell your telepath to stop trying to me. She'll only give herself a headache in the end...And your friends don't need to worry about me hurting you," Chrystal advised, smiling.

"What do you want," Robin asked.

"To simply point you in the right direction," Chrystal said, pulling out a file from her coat.

"Direction to what," Robin asked, eyeing the file.

"To what you seek," Chrystal said.

"Which is," Artemis coaxed.

"Answers," Chrystal stated.

"Well, you're not really helping there," Artemis said, "What's your game here?"

"Game?...This isn't a game, little arrow," Chrystal said.

"What are you trying to do," Robin said.

"To advise," Chrystal said.

'She's not doing anything but creating more questions.' Wally.

'Maybe the key is to not ask.' Kal'dur.

"Then advise us were you think we need," Robin said, taking the file.

"You came here looking for the beginning, but you're still only in the middle. What you seek is much farther back, and doesn't have the players you think is does. The closer you look, the farther you are from seeing," Chrystal remarked as Robin looked through the file.

"These are inventory lists and the Project Kr report from Cadmus," Robin stated, closing the file.

"So Cadmus is involved," Artemis said.

"I never said that," Chrystal said.

"Then what are you saying," Robin said.

"Before you get to step 2, you must first get step 1...But enough of all that, you have a more pressing matter to deal with," Chrystal informed them, moving pass them to sit at the desk.

"What matter," Artemis asked.

"The dusk...There seems to be a fair amount of dusk in office that has armer guards patrolling the building," Chrystal said, running her hand over the desk and leaving a path in the dusk.

"This is a decoy," Artemis said.

"Correct," Chrystal said.

"Why have a decoy, that is so easy to tell," Artemis said, looking to Robin.

"They're not expecting anyone to tell afterwards," Robin said.

"Exactly," Chrystal said.

"But nothing happened," Artemis said.

"For now," Chrystal countered, "Don't you remember what your friend said...'I didn't sense anyone in the office. The Bio-Ship doesn't sense anyone in the office'...but you're here"

'She's right. The Bio-Ship doesn't read anyone being in the office.' M'gann.

'How is that possible.' Wally.

'It's not.' Artemis.

'It should't be.' Kal'dur.

"How did you-" Robin started.

"Our time is up, you really must going," Chrystal smiled.

"But you-" Artemis started.

"Am technically not here," Chrystal said, "This whole building is decoy...even the bodies in it."

"Bodies," 'Bodies.' The team thought/said together.

"It is so easy to treat the mind into see the living. Your brain does most of the work to itself. Because it looks for the answer that makes the most sense to your frame of mind," Chrystal said, standing up a walking through the desk.

'She's a ghost!' Wally.

'Idiot.' Artemis.

"I'm an illusion. A projection of humanity to give you something to talk to...not a ghost," Chrystal explained, and then gestured to the window, "Now you need to go and quickly so. I'm going to cut the sensors back online."

"You didn't help us," Artemis said.

"I gave you tools, you need to figure out how to use them," Chrystal said, fading away.

The team was just a mile away from the warehouse, when the explosion happened.
