A/N: This chapter is solely focused on Scully and Emily and their relation. All mistakes belong to me.

"I think that went well." Emily said as soon as she and Dana had locked the door behind them in their new house. It was dark outside by now, it made the whole place seem a lot bigger than before, it filled the air with silence in strange way. The moon was shining inside as they walked to the living room. Dana turned on a smaller table lamp on the way, but nothing too bright since she rather liked the darkness that had fallen.

"Yes. I think they bought it in the end, and we got some good information out of it." Scully said, following Emily's cue to sit on the sofa next to her, lying in a relax pose, her legs curled under her on the couch.

"Again, I'm sorry I came on to you like that out of nowhere." Emily said while she looked down to her hands, a nervous chuckle on her lips.

"It's okay, I don't blame you, there's a good chance that I would have done the same if I was the one who had heard footsteps and talk." Scully looked to the window while talking. She knew there was a good chance that she would be too shy to do the exact same thing if she was in Emily's shoes, but seeing that embarrassed blush on the other woman's cheeks, she felt the need to reassure her. It wasn't as if she had been complaining or stopping her, and truth be told, she had enjoyed that kiss a lot more than she was willing to admit. "So, does the rest of the team know you're gay?" Scully asked daringly, looking Emily straight in the eyes.

"Why do you think I'm gay?" Emily asked, her tone rather playful.

"You're too good of a kisser to not have tried that before." Scully said with a raised eyebrow, resulting in a chuckle from both of them, followed by a blush on Emily's face.

"Is that a compliment?" Emily asked in a flirtatious, daring tone. Scully just raised her eyebrow once more to get Emily to answer the real question. Emily let out a sigh, looking hesitantly down, before leaning against the couch in a more confident matter, her arm stretching out on top of the couch, her hand close to Dana's shoulder. She looked the redhead straight in the eyes, squinting her own for a short second, trying to figure out Dana's intentions, before finally opening her mouth. "No, they don't. I guess I didn't think it was important to mention." Her tone was confident, but Scully was quick to catch the glimpse of sadness in her eyes.

"Isn't there anybody that knows?"

"Well, only one person anyway. You only met her briefly I think, agent Jareau… JJ…" Scully suddenly got an image before her eyes of blonde hair and baby blue eyes. Wasn't she the media liaison? She could see the other woman getting uncomfortable by her own memories, but Emily decided to just go for it since she was already talking. "I had a crush on her." She continued, looking down now. "Well, I had fallen in love with her." She licked her lips nervously, looking to the ceiling now, her hand twitching. "I was devastated when she finally let me down. Turns out that I had misread the whole situation anyway, that she already had a boyfriend named Will somewhere across the country. Huh, and I'm supposed to be the profiler." She swallowed a lump in her throat. "I have never been more embarrassed. I made her swear not to tell a soul about my sexuality or my love. She really broke my heart. I'm just lucky that being such a kindhearted person as she is, she was able to move past it so we could still be friends and coworkers. I would be lying if I said that it still isn't hard from time to time, but I have moved on since then, and now she's both engaged and recently pregnant." It was obvious that it was hard for Emily to talk about, the words coming out in chunks rather than flowing freely, as if she had a hard time remembering to breath.

"I'm sorry." Scully said, moved by the story. Emily let out a heavy breath she didn't realize she had been holding, when Scully lay her hand on top of Emily's. It felt good, being able to talk about it. She had really needed that going through the whole thing. She just felt so comfortable around Dana; she really felt that she could trust her.

"But that's enough about me." Emily said, meeting Scully's eyes once more. "What's your story?"

"I don't know that there's much to come for. I've always dated guys, I've always been straight. I guess that I never even considered anything else to be possible." Scully began, just letting her thoughts flow freely, a thing she rarely did. "It was just always what was expected from me; I never dated them because I was attracted to them. My father was a navy captain; my family have always been big on tradition and rules." She said. Emily made a small noise of recognition, remembering her own mother, the ambassador. "But it always worked well for me, because that way it meant that I could both please my family by bringing a guy home, and still have time to focus on my studies instead of being distracted by silly crushes. Of course I cared for them, I've dated men who were extremely smart, kindhearted, truly great human beings that would be ever girls dream, but if I have to be honest, I was always been happier to have the friendship over the sexual side of it." She looked down in contemplation. "I guess I've never really been in love." She finished, looking at their joined hands. They had casually intertwined them, Dana absentmindedly drawing random patterns with her thumb on Emily's soft skin. It felt nice, this closeness. It scared her.

"So what about Mulder?" Emily asked, looking Scully in the eyes. It was clear that she was taken aback by the question.

"If I have to be honest then I really care for Mulder deeply, I would gladly take a bullet for him, but I'm not in love with him. I'm not sure that I could, he's my partner, my closest friend; we know each other more or less like the back of our own hands. I'm scared it would get too weird; I don't have those feeling towards him. I can see why you would have that thought though. I can also understand how someone can fall for him, it's not that, but no, it's all harmless. There's nothing more to it than that on my behalf. God no, I mean I like him, but I don't think I'd be able to spend every waken hour around him."

Upon hearing that, Emily squeezed Scully's hand slightly, smiling softly at her. "I didn't mean to offend you in any way, I was just curious." Dana let out a soft sigh, smiling lovingly.

"It's okay. I wasn't offended." Then, just for a second, it was as if everything else disappeared, as Scully's eyes slowly drifted down to Emily's lips, remembering the feel of them against her own. "It's getting late." She said softly. "Why don't we go to bed?" She smiled, withdrawing her hand against her better judgment.

"Sure." Emily agreed, getting up from the couch. "Listen, why don't I take the couch, then you can have the bed?" She suggested rhetorically.

"No, don't be silly, there's no need. Have you seen the king-sized bed? There's more than enough room for both of us, we're both women and it's more comfortable then this cramped sofa." Dana said. Emily hesitated for a moment. She wasn't exactly sure that this was the best idea.

"Okay. Then lead the way." She said with a smile against her better judgment. She felt too drawn to Dana to be able to say no, which was exactly why this was a bad idea.

For a second though, the mood seemed to lighten as they brushed their teeth side by side and remembered all the fun they also had meeting their new neighbors and their friends. They had been nothing but friendly and welcoming of the fake couple, it made the whole thing a lot easier. After their return downstairs, it also seemed like Tom dropped the whole espionage thing and opened more up. They didn't get much more for the case though. Seemed like Anna had calmed Joan more about her suspicions.

"Why don't I go change in the bedroom, then you can have the bathroom?" Emily suggested when they were both done brushing, walking into the bedroom that were connected to the bathroom.

"I'll be out in a second." Scully said after her, her bag with her nightgown already at her feet. It made it quicker for her to throw the white, long satin gown over her, before going to the door. When she began to push it open though, she stopped dead in her tracks. On the other side stood Emily with her bare back against Scully, only clad in some hot pants, a t-shirt in her hands, which she was struggling with. She could see her long dark hair floating lightly against feminine and elegant muscles, could make out the side of her breast, saw the beautiful curves she had, the slender and slightly muscular tones of her arms, her long legs. Scully found herself unable to look away, her breath heavier than before. Then the view was gone as Emily managed to pull her t-shirt over her naked torso. She went to the side of the bed and sat down, waiting.

Scully found her legs again and stepped out, going to the bed. Now she almost wished she herself had just taken the couch instead of offering to sleep together. When Emily stepped under the covers, Scully followed suit.

"I have to warn you though; I have a tendency of hawking the blanket." Emily said, making Scully chuckle lightly.

"Then I guess I have to be careful." Dana said with a smile. She was resting her head against hand, which was leaning on her popped up elbow. Emily was lying down, looking up at her. A moment passed, eyes locked together, searching for a way to move forward. Then Emily raised her upper torso on her elbow, meeting Scully eye to eye.

"Dana?" she said, her eye flickering all over the redheads face, only to find peace in her eyes. It was strange for Scully, being called by her first name. She was so used to only ever being 'Scully' now a day. But hearing her name fall so elegantly from those perfect lips in front of her made her name sound beautiful, so right. She wanted to hear it over and over again. Swallowing, she answered:

"Yes?"

Emily hesitated for a second. Seeing a small blush forming on Scully's cheek, she let out a chuckled breath, a soft smile on her lips. Then she took her hand, as if to raise it, before pausing. A second passed before she finally decided to go for it, raising her hand to Dana's cheek, her thumb lightly stroking the soft skin beneath it. Dana's eyes fluttered close for a second, her face leaning in to the touch, encouraging it.

"Has anybody ever told you how beautiful you are?" she asked. And it was true, she was absolutely gorgeous with her thick red hair, her always skeptical blue eyes, the tiny hint of freckles surrounding her nose, and those red oh so perfect lips.

The sentence made Dana's eyes open once more, only to flicker down to the lips before her. She'd had compliments before, but somehow this was different. It was like it triggered something inside of her, unlocked a part of her that nobody else had been able to reach. Slowly, she leant forward in a hesitant movement, her heart beating fast in her chest, before she finally just went for it and kissed Emily.

Their lips melted perfectly together, and when they went apart for a second, Dana came forward once more and kissed Emily again, and again, and again.
