Chapter 8: Pack Stilinski: The Beginning
Becoming Alpha
A/N: I do not own Teen Wolf; I also have no BETA so please excuse any mistakes.
Stiles woke slowly, his surroundings dark and quiet. He focused his hearing, trying to discover what had woken him, to hear the sound of breathing and small whimpers. Stiles rolled over slowly and threw his arm around Isaac; the whimpering slowed and then stopped all together. Stiles smiled to himself and slowly drifted back to sleep, Jackson's breathing behind him even and deep.
The next time the Alpha woke it was to the smell of bacon and voices in the kitchen. Stiles groaned and opened his eyes slowly, the room was now lighter and he was alone in the bed. It was rare for him to sleep later then Jax and Isaac but it did happen. He stretched slowly, his bones and muscles popping after the long night. He yawned and slowly trudged to the kitchen, eyes adjusting to the well lit hallway and headed to the sound of his pack.
Once in the room eyes turned to take in their Alpha and lit up with amusement and fondness. The closest to him sitting at the bar were the twins, both of them still had sleep tussled hair and silly grins on their faces. Stiles smiled fondly at the two and then ruffled Vince's hair in passing to the kitchen. Jackson smiled at him with warmth when he headed towards him at the stove; Stiles returned the smile and proceeded to steal a kiss as well. Jackson's lips were warm against his and he felt the Beta purr slightly. Stiles chuckled as he pulled away; eyes alight with amusement and love.
"Morning Jax." Stiles said softly, lips still close to Jackson's.
"Morning babe, I have bacon ready, could you start on eggs and I'll do the toast?" Stile smiled and nodded his response, already turning to the fridge to pull out eggs.
As Stiles made a round two dozen eggs for his pack his mind wandered. His pack was stable and happy; they ruled their territory with few complications or challenges. He smiled to himself when he thought of how it was just him, Isaac and Jackson a short three years ago when they left Beacon Hills behind. Stiles was twenty-one now, an adult in the world of wolves and men. Stiles knew that they had a bumpy start, there were many things Stiles and his small pack had had to overcome to get to the happiness they had now. His smile turned sour as his mind turned back to the events that had been less then pleasant while establishing his pack.
-3 years earlier-
Stiles eyes were drooping and he fought it. They had been driving for hours and were only half an hour away from the house Jackson's parents owned in Colorado. The entire drive Stiles had had to fight the urge to turn the car around and go home. He hadn't but the urge had been strong enough that he had had to physically tear his eyes away from his rearview more than once. His wolf kept whining at him, it was confused why they left mate!Derek behind, why they left pack!Peter behind. He tried to explain but the wolf thought in simpler terms and it was impossible to explain how it hurt but was necessary.
Isaac was asleep in the passenger seat and Danny was still resting peacefully in the back. Stiles could sense the turmoil with his third Beta but could not see him in the Porsche that was ahead of him. Stiles knew that he had been a little harsh on Jackson, he just hoped that the boy would come to forgive him one day for the rejection. It wasn't that he didn't care about Jackson, of course he did, and it was just that he was so confused. He had had no idea that Jackson had even had any feeling s for him.
Stile sighed and rubbed his eyes with his left hand, they were aching for sleep. Stiles brought his eyes back to the road and the vehicle leading him to their new home. He glanced at the clock and rolled his eyes. They had been driving since the afternoon before and it was nearing the next morning. Stiles hoped they arrived soon, he didn't know if he could keep driving much longer, the lines blurred in front of him as it were.
Stiles didn't have long to mourn the hours of sleep he could have had as Jackson turned into a secluded driveway into the mountains. He looked around him at the dense forest and mountain range as he followed. California was beautiful, not to mention his home, but there something wild about the land here that had his wolf howling at the moon. They followed the windy dirt road five or six miles into the dense wildlife before a house came into view. Stiles gaped when he realized that when Jackson had said a cabin what he really meant was a fucking mansion….that kind of looked like a cabin.
The cabin was very unique in shape; it had a triangular design in the center of the home but with a huge wraparound porch on the second floor. The windows that he could see were huge and he was sure the view from inside was just as gorgeous as the outside. He parked his jeep in front of the house next to Jackson's Porsche and turned the engine off with a sigh. He was bone dead tired and he knew the night wasn't even close to over.
Stiles exited his Jeep and stretched out sore muscles, he shut his door behind him loudly in order to wake up Isaac and Danny. As the noise reverberated through the vehicle both of said boys snapped awake, their eyes taking in their surroundings with confusion then understanding. They both looked at the house in awe then their eyes turned to meet Stiles' and they smiled.
Both boys unbuckled and lumbered out of the vehicle, both stretching out muscles. Stiles chuckled at the boys then turned to watch Jackson get out of his car. The boy had a determined look on his face when his eyes met Stiles, Stiles felt a chill creep up his spine at the intensity in the other boys gaze. Jackson took a deep breath and then strode towards his Alpha, his gaze intense and his scent smelling determined and nervous. Stiles raised an eyebrow at the boy when he stopped right in front of him.
"Stiles, I know I messed up. I didn't mean to take the choice from you; I just wanted you to HAVE a choice. I knew that if Derek came anywhere near you you wouldn't have the control to say no, he would have taken you as his mate no matter what." Stiles watched Jackson's expression go from contrite, to determined to angry and waited, assuming there was more.
"I just didn't want you to be taken from me, I'm sorry, I don't know what I would have done if you had chosen Derek, had let him have you, after everything him and his pack have done to you. I lost my mind at the mere thought of him touching you in a claiming way, I can't even think about what I would have tried to do if he had touched you. Stiles, you are my friend, my Alpha and the only person I have ever trusted enough to show this kind of vulnerability. I understand if you want to hate me or never forgive me for the choice I made. I know I'm not perfect in any way, but I can promise that if you kept the claim I would never underestimate you, never think of you as anything but Stiles! You wouldn't be a prize to me, you would be my life partner. I want to be your mate Stiles, I know you don't want me, but I am begging you. I can be a better mate then Derek could ever be. I will never judge you, I will accept you for everything you are and I will make sure that every decision you make is supported."
Jackson was breathing hard at the end of his rant and Stiles was speechless. Stiles looked at the boy before him, measured him. Jackson and he had been friends before, before Stiles had met Scott. When they were small they would play together all the time, they were inseparable. Stiles remembers that when he met Scott Jackson hated the other boy; in fact Stiles had stopped playing with him because he was always mean to Scott. Jackson had taken the rejection hard, bullying him and Scott all throughout middle school and high school, until the Kanima incident.
Stiles had tried hard to make Jackson feel welcome in a pack that didn't want him, had made sure his friend was okay and happy. Stiles felt as if he had made up for the rejection a child had burdened him with. Jackson had smiled again, had laughed and Stiles saw the boy he had loved as a child. Stiles looked at the man before him, because this was Jackson the man, not the boy; and realized that maybe this had been here all along, that maybe that anger Jackson had towards Scott had been jealousy, over Stiles!
Stiles looked at Jackson, took in the desperate look in his eyes, smelled the truth on him, he knew Jackson meant every word. The hard part now was deciding what to do. This wasn't a decision he could make now, he needed time to consider.
"Jackson, I understand what you are saying and I know you're telling me the truth but…I need some time okay?" Stiles hated how Jackson's shoulders dropped in disappointment. "I didn't say no Jax, just some time? Can you give me that? I won't do anything with the bond until I've decided; I'll leave it intact for now." Jackson's head lifted and he met his eyes with a quick nod, a small smile on his face.
Stiles smiled warmly back and then turned to his other two Betas, Danny looked really confused and Isaac looked contemplative.
"Okay guys, we have a lot to do before me or Jax can get any rest so we'd better get started. Isaac, fill in Danny on what all happened, he was either not present or unconscious for everything so…..yeah, fix that. Jax I need to make some phone calls, is there a landline in that house?" Jackson nodded and then walked to the front door and let them all in.
The inside was lavish but homey and Stiles immediately liked it. Jackson turned on lights and pointed to a phone on the wall by the door. Stiles took a little black address book out of his pocket and proceeded to shuffle through it looking for all the names he needed to call. The first call would be to the Alphas surrounding this territory, he would let them know he was a new Alpha and was claiming this territory under his new Alpha rights. He knew this area was pack less and he should have few problems obtaining it officially. His phone calls to the Alphas were short and sweet, like he thought none of them had an issue with him claiming the territory as his own.
The next call would be a bit more difficult. He needed to call his dad and explain what was going on. Stiles grimaced and proceeded to dial the memorized number.
"Stiles?!" His dad sounded frantic and Stiles felt his heart clinch in pain.
"Yeah dad, it's me." Stiles heard the man sigh in relief and braced himself.
"Do you have any idea how worried I was when I came home and you and Isaac were BOTH gone?! All of your stuff is missing and all I get is your phone and a note?! What in the Hell is going on Genim, and it had better be good!" Stiles hated it when his dad used his real name, he heard snickers behind him and he turned and flashed red eyes growling at his pack, forgetting his father on the phone.
"Stiles, did you just growl? Like a werewolf? STILES?!" His dada's frantic yelling attracted his attention once again and he cursed himself.
"Uuuuh yeah dad, there's some things I need to tell you. Are you sitting down?"
So Stiles told him what all happened with the Alpha pack, his father had known his want to be a werewolf and was unsurprised to hear he had taken the opportunity presented to him. What he was upset about was the fact that Derek couldn't get his head out of his ass long enough to do it himself. He was also displeased that Stiles had had to leave to find his own territory, once again because of Derek. When Stiles finally got to the part about being Derek's mate, Jackson claiming him and the driving to Colorado his dad was borderline hysteric with fury.
"Who does Derek think he is, trying to claim MY son when he is weakest? I'm going to have some choice words, and maybe bullets, for that boy when I see him. What about school?" His dad asked calmly, Stiles smiled in fondness.
"Well, I was only going because everyone else was. I could have graduated already, I have all of my credits, and all I really have to do is grab my diploma. Jackson was given permission to drop and get his GED and I think we can do the same for Isaac, if they have trouble I'm here to tutor them. Danny already graduated as a junior so he's good; maybe find a college here for him." Stiles felt good about his plan and his father approved as well.
"Well kiddo, I guess I can't really make you come back home, considering the circumstances. I expect to hear from you at least once a day, I want to know how the pack is doing too so don't think they don't have to call me. I expect to visit in a few weeks, okay son?" Stiles agreed that his dad would visit, as well as that they would call and talk to him.
"Okay, well, I love you Stiles. Just be safe, I know you'll be a good Alpha, I always knew you were born to lead." Stiles felt tears well in his eyes and sniffed slightly.
"Love you too dad, hopefully I won't screw them up too bad. Bye." His father laughed and then bade him farewell. Stiles hung up the phone feeling ten pounds lighter then turned to find three pairs of eyes watching him.
"What?" Stiles asked.
"We have to call your dad and talk to him every day?" Jackson asked voice high pitched.
Stiles stared at his face then looked to Danny, who looked equally panicked. Stiles looked to Isaac who just shrugged and Stiles burst into laughter.
"Yes you do, that's what happens in pack Stilinski. You're all honorary Stilinski's now and my dad will expect you to treat him like the pack dad that he is!" Stiles then proceeded to strike a heroic pose in the name of his father, pack dad!
The pack all snickered at him and shook their heads.
"We're all dead…" muttered Danny.
"Hey!" Stiles yelled in reproach, offended.
The Betas all laughed at his pouty face then proceeded to dog pile on top of him, knocking him to the floor. Stiles sighed from under a pile of puppies and proceeded to accept his fate.
"So now what?" Asked Isaac in his left ear, it tickled.
"Well, tomorrow we'll have to do territory runs then go to town and get supplies for the house. I suspect that there will be some schools in Denver that we should check out to see if they look good. Then after we have settled I will start looking for potential pack members." He felt everyone tense on top of him but Jackson was the one to ask.
"New pack members? Already?" He sounded slightly panicked and Stiles sighed.
"Yeah guys, I have to start expanding almost immediately. I know Derek said he would give me space and time but I don't really trust that. I have my bond with Jax keeping me from feeling the effects, mostly, of leaving my true mate behind. I can only imagine how it feels for Derek's wolf; he may grow impatient and try to force me to Mate." He felt and heard all three Betas growl threateningly at that and he smiled.
"It's not likely to happen but I don't want to take any chances. I plan on making this pack stronger, better, smarter and more loving then Derek's pack could ever be. I will prove that I am the better Alpha, that I don't need anyone to help me lead. Then when he sees what I have done without him, what he could not do, only then will he understand what a huge mistake he made not biting me when he had the chance." Stiles voice had dropped to a growl and he could feel fangs in his mouth.
Derek would learn that Stiles was not someone to be won, was not a prize. He was Stiles and he would prove to everyone who ever doubted him just how much they had underestimated him.
