Chpt.15

"Shit!" Livy grunted as she ran on the rooftops, holding her side. She was bleeding profusely and her communication was down. She had to get help quick or she'd bleed out.

Just then there was another gunshot and she felt her arm get grazed by a bullet.

That damn woman's still following me!? Livy thought with frustration.

Penguin had hired some new people to protect his establishment. One being a very talented assassin who had not only manage to surprise attack Livy, but also was able to put three bullets into her.

I need to lose her. Livy thought as she tried weaved between buildings while trying to dodge shots.

"Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit." Livy hissed in frustration. This was one of the worst situations she ever found herself in.

As Livy cut through an ally, she noticed a window opened in one of the buildings.

Usually she would never jump into another person's home unless it was someone she knew or villainy scum. However, she felt like she had no other option. She could either get caught by a murderous assassin when she was not in any condition to fight or hop through a window of a stranger, close the window, and pray that the person inside was either kind or not there.

Here goes it. Livy jumped into the window, then quickly closed it shut, then pulled the shades over it.

"That bitch." Livy sighed heavily, leaning against the wall.

"Oh my god!" Livy looked over to see a man staring at her in shock. He had clear blue eyes hidden behind several strands of shaggy dirty blond hair. The rest of his longer hair was tied up into a bun.

The man was lanky and thin, with arms that seemed to long for his body and a nose that jutted a bit from his face. He looked to be about Jason's age.

When Livy came in, he was in the process of cooking something on the stove. It was clear to Livy that this man knew his way around the kitchen due to the lavish kitchen and cooking instruments.

"Are you okay!?" he questioned in a panic as he ran towards Livy.

"I've been better." Livy smirked a bit. "Sorry for jumping through your window."

"Dude, you're bleeding. I'd jump through a window too." He stated as he gathered Livy in his arms, cleared things off of his dining table, then laid Livy out on top.

"It's gonna be alright little crime fighting chick." Livy's image of the man started to blur. She was going to pass out. The last words she heard were,

"Don't worry, leave everything up to friend Josh."

When Livy woke up, she found that she was on a couch with a blanket draped over her.

What happened again? She thought with confusion as she started to sit up, but then she hissed in pain and laid back down. Oh yeah, I was shot multiple times.

Livy looked over at the coffee table in front of her and noticed that there was a small tray with several bloody bullets in it.

Did that guy help me? What was that he called himself… Josh? Did that Josh chief guy help me? Livy wondered. She then looked over at the side table next to the couch and saw a picture of a group of people.

Livy's eyes widened as she stared at the picture. In it was a teen with very long shaggy blonde hair who Livy assumed was the Josh man when he was younger. However, standing next to Josh in the picture was a girl Livy couldn't remember but had seen many pictures of.

She had brown curly hair along with brown eyes. Hey skin was a dark tan.

In the picture, Josh was smirking down at the girl, while the girl was looking up at him with a playful scowl on her face.

My biological mother… Indira. That's Indira. That's… that's my mother. That was the woman who Jason fell in love with. And Josh knew her? Livy thought in shock.

"Good morning little hero chick. I know I've seen you in the papers but I honestly forget what your name is. Little something or red something or something like that." he grinned. "Anyway, I was able to get those bullets out and close up your wounds. Good thing you were unconscious because trust me, it was not a pretty sight cauterizing your wounds."

"Thanks for everything… you said your name was Josh, right?"

"Yes ma'am." He nodded. "Oh, I also made you some tea. It has some ginger, lemon, and mint in it. Is that alright?" he questioned, and Livy nodded with a small smile.

"Yeah, thank you. Um… Can I ask you something?" Livy questioned.

"Shoot." Josh shrugged.

"Who's that girl in the picture?" Livy questioned. Josh looked at the picture and his eyes softened as a small smile graced his face.

"That was an old friend of mine, Indi." He chuckled. "She whooped my ass into shape big time. She let me live in her house when my mom kicked me out, she got me to clean up so I could get a job, and she helped shape me into the man I am today." Josh shook his head, looking at the picture. "I was such an ass, I'm surprised she was able to put up with me."

"She changed you that much?"

"Yup. She was truly a loving girl. It was tough love, but that was what I needed." his smile slowly disappeared.

"She died though… suicide." He shook his head. "She was one of my best friends and she died because my other best friend left her with a baby and broke her heart. I tried to keep her from spiraling into depression. I would cook her some of my best meals, try to help out with her kid even though it was hard, tried to bring home some money and look after her little brother…" Josh sighed heavily.

"She gave the kid up for adoption. After that it was pretty much downhill. She wouldn't eat, she cried all the time, she couldn't sleep well. I picked her brother up from his art classes one day and when we got home… we found her."

Livy felt her eyes watering a bit, and Josh shook his head, eyes watering as well.

"Anyway, I like to think of her before all that, y'know? Her spunky fun self. Anyway, after her death I was more driven to work hard. I mean, she worked so hard to make sure I didn't screw up so when she died… I needed her to know that I could live on my own and she did well."

"I'm sure she's very proud of you." Livy grinned.

"Thanks little hero chick. Sorry for pouring out my heart and soul to you." Josh apologized, rubbing the back of his neck, but Livy just shrugged with a small smile.

"Not a problem. I was the one who asked. It's always nice to her stories about my mother." Livy took that moment to take a sip of the tea Josh prepared.

"Wait… did you say…" Josh stared at the girl in shock. Livy peeled her mask off her face and gave the man a small smile.

"Oh my god, your face… it's just like Jason's." Josh whispered. "Oh my god… just… my god! Look at you!" Josh quickly hugged the girl, being careful not to put too much pressure where she was shot.

"My dad talks about you sometimes." Livy informed. "He said that he wanted to tell you about me, but was too afraid to see you. He said that you hated him and he didn't blame you."

"Wait, you reunited with your Dad… with Jason?"

"Through a bunch of crazy circumstances, yeah." Livy looked at a clock hanging on the wall and shook her head. "he's probably worried sick right now." She sighed, then looked down at her belt. There was a small red light glowing on a device sown into the belt. "He activated the tracker and everything."

"Tracker…" Just then the door was kicked down and Jason came running into the room.

"I'm fine! It's alright! He helped me!" Livy exclaimed before Jason could land a punch or cause any more damage.

"Dude, I liked my door." Josh pouted. Jason's eyes widened when he recognized the man.

"Josh?"

"Hey Jason. So… you found Indira's kid… and you're a vigilante." Josh chuckled at that. "Somehow that doesn't surprise me."

Livy watched as Josh slowly approached Jason, then hugged him.

"It's been awhile." Josh stated as he hugged Jason. Jason chuckled a bit and gave the man a hug back.

"Your hair still looks like shit." Jason smirked.

"I'm willing to bet that I'm still the better cook." Josh shot back.

"Up yours." Jason laughed.

Livy smiled as she looked at her father and Josh slowly start to rekindle their friendship. She looked over at the picture of her mother and smiled.

You have really weird friends, you know that? Livy thought with a small smile. From what I hear, you were an amazing person. I wish I could remember you.

Livy then went back to sipping her tea as Jason and Josh caught up.
