"He's not going to be happy." Livy sighed as the airplane started to land. Jason looked at her with a frown.
"You know, I wasn't too happy either, but he should know the risks of our job. Stuff like this happens." Jason explained, and Livy looked up at her father.
"I tell him that, but he always blames me for doing something unnecessary that winds up getting me hurt." Livy shrugged.
"Who knows." Jason smiled. "Maybe he'll be okay with it."
~*~*~*~*~At the Airport~*~*~*~*~
"WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED!" Damian sprinted to Livy when she and Jason got off the plane.
Livy was in a wheelchair. Due to the injuries she obtained during her last fight, her legs would take a while to heal.
"I'm fine Damian. I just got hurt more than usual last mission but I'm fine. a few weeks and I'll be out of this chair running around again." She smiled, but Damian's face was still twisted in concern and anger.
"Todd, may I take your daughter with me to the mansion? Grayson wanted to see her when she got back." Damian informed, turning to look at Jason.
"Go ahead." Jason shrugged. "I'll see you back at the hideout, Livy." Jason kissed his daughter on the cheek, then started to walk away. However, Jason stopped and whispered to Damian,
"Just because she's in that chair doesn't mean that she can't still kick your ass, so don't get any funny ideas." Damian would usually have a witty comeback or give Jason a dubious smirk, but this time he did neither. He was silent, waiting for Jason to walk away.
Once Jason was gone, Livy wheeled herself next to Damian.
"Where are you parked?" she inquired, and Damian got behind the chair and started to push it.
"It's outside. I'll steer you there." Damian stated. There was no joking around in his voice, and Livy knew that Damian was trying not to yell at her in a crowd.
He opened the passenger door and moved Livy from the chair to the seat. He then folded the chair and put it in the back all the while not saying a word.
He's mad at me. Livy thought with a sigh and she knew she was going to be in for a fight.
Damian got into the driver's seat, but he didn't start the car.
"You are in a wheel chair." He whispered.
"Not for long." Livy reminded.
"But for the time being, you are in a wheel chair!" Damian exclaimed in frustration.
"I don't see what the big deal is. I screwed up. I got hurt. It happens." Livy shrugged.
"God damn it Livy! What if you were unable to use your legs for good!? Or what if you died!? You can't look at something and be okay with screwing up!"
"Damian I get hurt! Doing this job is going to get me hurt and I am okay with that!" Livy exclaimed. "It's not like I'm the only one either! You get hurt too and do ya see me yelling at you?!"
"I don't take the same risks that you take! You jump off buildings and dive head first into fights not even considering the risks!"
"You don't know what goes through my head! I do what needs to be done!" Livy argued.
"What needs to be done!? What needs to be done is you caring about your own life! I can't see you get hurt like this! You are starting to have more scars than I do and that terrifies me!" Damian grabbed Livy by the shoulders and Livy felt that they were trembling. "Damn it Livy, please… please be more careful." His voice was a hoarse whisper. "Promise me that you will be more careful."
Livy touched Damian's face gently.
"Damian, I can promise you that I will be more careful. But I can't promise you that I won't get injured anymore." Livy sighed. "You know how this job is. We don't have any superpowers to help us. All it could take is one bullet, one wrong fall, one stab, and I'm gone. The same goes for you."
Damian was silent, staring at Livy with a look like he was about to throw up. He slid his hands from her shoulders to her back and hugged her close to his chest.
"I wish you'd stop this. I wish you would just… retire. Hang up the cape and put away the mask and… and lead a normal life. I don't want to risk losing you, Livy." He whispered.
"You know I can't do that, Damian." Livy sighed. "And you must be really stupid if you think you're the only one who feels like that in this relationship."
Damian pulled away and looked the girl in the eye.
"Damian, there are days when I want you to stop being Robin. To be safe and to not have that R shaped target over your heart. I might as well be a nobody, but you. Damian, villains line up trying to defeat Batman's robin. They see you as a target to get to Batman and they would do anything to have the title of 'the villain who killed Robin'. You know how much that scares me?" Damian looked at Livy in shock, and she kissed him on the cheek.
"But I don't tell you to hang up your cape because I know that that will never happen and I'm just wasting my breath. So stop worrying about me so much, alright? I'm a tough girl." Livy smiled at him, and Damian smiled his small smile back at her.
"I love you, Livy." He whispered, and Livy chuckled.
"I love you too, Damian." She felt Damian's lips over her own and the two shared a long kiss.
Part of Livy wanted to take it further. Wanted to rip off Damian's shirt and watch events happen as they happened. But she knew they couldn't. With the job they had at their age, Livy knew it wasn't a good idea.
"You should probably start driving before Dick starts to wonder where you are." Livy whispered, and Damian nodded.
"Good idea."
Their fight was over, but Livy knew that the next time she got hurt, this was going to happen all over again. It was just something that was part of their relationship. And until one of them died, that was how it was going to be.
