….
It was evening before Kevin and Eddward had made it into the city limits. Aunt Sam had used up quite a bit of their afternoon with lunch and puppy chores that Eddward insisted on helping with. Edd nor Kevin didn't mind it being a late trip. The sock head rather enjoyed Sam's company, and wouldn't of minded staying in. However; Kevin had other plans for them, and before the sock head knew it he was downtown in Peachcreek's neighboring city Appleton. It was beautiful. Eddward stood in the middle letting his eyes soak up the lights and buildings that littered the streets. Kevin watched Eddward in silence enjoying the childlike wonder decorating the smaller teens face. A large gap toothed smile lit up Eddward's face as he reached out for Kevin's hands pulling him in any direction the sock heads feet went.
"Slow down dork." Kevin chuckled out as he repositioned his hand to a more comfortable fit in Eddward's. The redheads mind raced. He knew he should've untangle his hand from Edds, but in all honestly he didn't want to. Kevin rather liked how soft and small Eddward's hands were in comparison to his own. He loved the way he and the sock clad teens hands fit so perfectly together, and how their strides seemed in sync. In fact Kevin sorta just loved being around Eddward in general. The thought gave him butterflies and made him extremely aware of their intertwined hands. Nazz never made Kevin feel like this. In fact with Nazz everything felt somewhat mundane. He followed the motions but still only felt a strong friendship vibe with the blond beauty. Kevin shook his head and decided it was because he hadn't seen much of Nazz since the day of his birthday. Guilt sunk into his gut as He came to the realization he hadn't seen his own girlfriend outside of school since the fair. The redhead had been preoccupied since then. The guilt dropped to the pit of his stomach and Kevin slowly detached himself from Eddward. A cold empty feeling replaced his guilt and Kevin couldn't deny immediately missing the smaller teens warmth snuggled into his hand. Confusion filled the redhead's mind. What had it mattered? Just earlier he had the other boy snuggled into his lap, and yesternight they spent a majority of the night wrapped up in a blanket together. Hand holding suddenly seemed the lesser of all of the other interaction between the two boys.
"Kevin?" Kevin's eyes seeked the owner of the voice saying his name. Vividly blue eyes stared up at the redhead. concern covered Eddward's round face causing Kevin's heart to skipped a beat. The larger of the teens took notice to the fact that the pair had halted.
"Forgive my interruption…. You haven't said anything in sometime. Are you alright Kevin?" The redhead thought his name sounded heavenly on Eddward's lips and he continued to look into Edds sky blue orbs. Kevin had decided that those eyes of Edds could probably get the redhead to do anything, and for a brief second Kevin could almost comprehend the amount of trouble he was getting into. The second had passed and instead was replaced with one single thought that Kevin put into action. The redhead slipped his hand back into Eddward's and began walking once more. The pair spent minutes in a somewhat awkward silence before Kevin found what he had been looking for. The two boys looked up at the old theater that stood proudly before them.
"Your eyes." Kevin began before falling silent trying desperately not to look down into Edds enchantment.
"My eyes?" Eddward asked in a small confused voice as he began to fidget uncomfortably. The small teen waited for Kevin to finish before deciding he wasn't going to say anything else. Eddward took a step forward and was started when Kevin didn't step forward as well. " They are the most beautiful I have ever seen" Eddward stiffened. This was the second time someone had commented positively on his looks in one day. Beautiful wasn't a word Eddward had heard much in his young life, and this use of the word stunned him. A dark red creeped up the small teens neck and covered his face, and he didn't dare turn around and face Kevin.
"My mother gave them to me." Eddward sighed out only to be rewarded with a confused huh as an answer. "I mean I inherited my eyes from my mother." The sock clad teen chanced a peek at his companion. He really didn't have a choice. Kevin still held tightly to him. Eddward scanned Kevin's own clear emerald colored orbs and smiled sweetly. "Your eyes are quite fetching as well." It was Kevin's turn to blush and the larger teen covered his face with his large free hand to hide the fact. Eddward laughed and scooted closer to the redhead. Kevin finally let go of Eddward's hand long enough to wrap both arms around the smaller teens waist. Edd let his own hands set comfortably on Kevin's chest. The redhead let his forehead rest on Eddward's and closed his eyes in relaxation.
"Thanks dweeb." Kevin answered after a few moments of silence. Eddward let his own eyes flutter close and after a minute or so decided to open them and smile at his companion. A few weeks ago Double D would of shuttered at the thought of the intimacy shared between himself and of all people Kevin, But a lot had changed in these past few weeks including the sock clad teens comfort zone when concerning the redheaded ex bully of Edds. Eddward silently thanked Kevin for pushing his boundaries for once in his life.
"Kevin, might we journey inside the theater? I'm quite curious what the inside will bring us." The said teen brought his forehead off Eddward's and looked up to the theater.
"Ya, ya dork let's go." Kevin said with an ushering hand placed strategically on the small of Edwards back. The couple quickly traveled inside the old building to enjoy what it had to offer.
….
Kevin laughed hard as he listened to Eddward tell a particularly good story involving the three Ed's and the Kankers. The pies they hand been enjoying half ate and forgotten on their plates. They had been sitting in the booth of a dinner Kevin had often frequent with his aunt. They had been sitting for about an hour and a half swapping stories and simply enjoying each other. The theater had been lovely and played a smorgasbord of old Charlie Chaplin films. Eddward adored every minute just like Kevin knew he would. knowing someone since childhood made doing these things easy. A thought accrued to Kevin and he wondered if he knew Nazz as well as he seemed to know the boy sat in front of him picking at his cherry pie. Had the redhead always known so much about Eddward? When had he become so aware of the sock head. Kevin wasn't sure but this must have started much longer before these few weeks. The redhead could remember times his green eyes followed Eddward while the teen lived out his days. it accrued to Kevin he had been harboring something for Eddward long before he started living under the same roof. It was only now that they had been in such close proximity that the redhead had noticed. Looking back it might been a lifelong thing. Kevin was never as tough on him as he was the other two Ed's. Except for the one time Edd had stolen his bike, but even then he could remember holding back. The redhead huffed and buried his new found fondness for the raven haired teen. The action didn't go unnoticed from Eddward.
"Are you worried about Nazz?" The question hung in the air as Kevin eyed his companion a little taken back by the bold question. "I am under the impression you two have begun a courtship?" Kevin keep his eyes trained on his dining partner and let a brow raise in confusion.
"Dating." Eddward said using a hand to wave the conversation on. Kevin smirked and leaned on to the table.
"I knew what you meant the first time. I'm not stupid you know." Kevin answered with a tinge of annoyance. Eddward blushed genuinely embarrassed. The smartest of the three Ed's was well aware that the only other student who came close to matching his GPA was sitting across from him sipping his coffee a cocky grin plastered on his face. Kevin was much, much more than the dumb jock everyone assumed he was. The two shared quite a few AP classes and it was just recently Kevin had beat Eddward on an AP calculus test. The redhead might not of used the elaborate wording the sock clad teen did, but Kevin also hadn't had the entire dictionary shoved down his throat at the age of four. Either way his lack of elegant communication didn't mean Kevin wouldn't understand the meaning. Eddward felt humbled to say the least.
" My apologies Kevin, I normally have to give a more elaborate explanation." Kevin thought about the company Edd normally keep, and suddenly his explanation made a lot more sense.
"I'm confused on what you would know…" Kevin had paused to bring his hands up to make quotation in the air with his fingers. "courting." Eddward visibly began to look uncomfortable, as he fidgeted with the hem of his shirt.
"I dated May?" Eddward answered an odd tone in his voice. Kevin could tell there was more to the story then one day of dating a Kanker in middle school. The redhead let the fact that he knew Eddward was full of it express on his face.
"And?" Kevin asked with a smirk. Eddward brought his trademark hat down past the eyes Kevin was beginning to adore.
" And what, Kevin?" Eddward was extremely hopeful Kevin had meant the 'and' as a form of sarcasm, but the raven haired teen hadn't been a person with a lot of luck?
"And, who else Double Dweeb." Eddward sighed loudly and sunk into his seat before resting his forehead in his delicate hands. He knew he had no other choice but to tell Kevin the truth. Moments passed before the sock head took a deep breath and decided to look at Kevin. Nervousness filled his stomach that threatened to resurface the cherry pie.
"Remember the Euro trip last summer?" Kevin looked at his pie trying to remember. It had been a prize for an essay contest. Eddward had of course won, but Kevin was drawing a blank on the second winner. The redhead let his eyes move to the teen sitting across from him. A few minutes of Eddward wearing a worried expression passed before Kevin's eyes widened. The redhead had remembered the other winner.
"No...Anyone but that asshole." Kevin could tell by Eddward's expression that he was correct with his assumptions. Kevin was speechless for a minute. "Is that why he has it out for you this year?" Kevin asked. His fingers now pinching the bridge of his nose. That explained why Max had been particularly cruel to Eddward. "Max fuckin Carson?" Kevin asked and sighed when Edd shamefully shook his head yes.
"In my defense. Max can be quite charming while in the romantic ambience of other countries." Kevin shoot a glare at Eddward. The redhead seethed with jealousy, and his mind filled with various ways he could make Max's life hell.
"Are you disgusted with me?" Eddward asked while his hands meticulously straightened the table they sat at. Kevin reached out and grabbed Edd's hands forcing the teen to stop his manic behavior. Eddward still refused to look at Kevin. The sock clad teen had confused the redhead's jealousy for something held against him.
"Edd, please look at me." Kevin had sounded almost pleading to Eddward and he decided to obey. "I could never feel disgusted with you. Max, Max is a different story." Kevin could tell his words had calmed the teen down. "I'm gonna fucking kill him." The green eyed teen took a moment to calm himself before asking another question.
" You haven't once corrected my bad language. Why?" Eddward sighed and removed his hands from Kevin's in order to set back. The dark haired teen had learned it was best to sometimes let people vent how the needed.
" I didn't think it wise to interrupt your thought process just to lecture you on your cursing habit." Kevin nodded with approval. It probably wouldn't have been. Kevin decided it was time for a subject change.
"Wanna go see the pups?" The redhead already knew the answer and began digging out five singles from his wallet to through on the table . The redhead laughed as he watched Eddward frantically shake his head. With his question answered Kevin quickly paid the bill and rejoined Eddward so they could make their way back to the fluff balls they left behind hours ago.
….
It was quite late when they returned to Sam's ranch. Lights strung around the barn illuminated the yard and Eddward had found himself a particularly pup to love on. The exact same fluffy puff of dark cloud that had slept on his lap earlier. It seemed the female mastiff puppy had taken a shining to the sock head. Kevin sat on the porch with his aunt and uncle watching Eddward and the fluffy baby. A small idea began to form in the redhead's mind.
"I know mom and dad said we would pay full price if we ever got a pup." Kevin said casually to Sam and Brent. The couple keep their eyes glued to teen playing happily with the puppy. Kevin took the cue to continue his proposal.
"I have a thousand saved up. For my bike." Kevin paused for a moment to think it over. Was this dog really worth losing all the money he had worked desperately for. The teen listened while Eddward giggle letting the fluffy pup knocked him down. The doubt Kevin had felt melted away and a smile made it to his lips. "Can I give that as a down payment? I can get my old job back and pay the rest off. I promise." Brent tore his eyes from the pair in the yard and smiled at Kevin. An idea of his own forming. Moments passed before Brent took lead from his wife.
"Kevin," The rather large biker looking man began. "You see my barn?" Kevin peered over at the barn the puppies had been resting in during the hot days. Kevin gave a nod. He was more than aware of his aunt and uncle's barn. The redhead had worked in the blistering heat for a month straight with his uncle Brent to build that barn. It would of been up a lot quicker if Sam wouldn't of changed the plans so many times. "Well, I never actually asked for your help...did I? You just did…" Kevin eyed his uncle curiously while he waited for the man to continue. "I think Sam would agree when I say you more than earned that pup." Sam nodded her head in agreement. Kevin was flabbergasted, this wasn't something he could agree too.
"I couldn't just take her." The teen protested "She's the biggest. She's expensive." Kevin knew that the dogs his aunt and uncle had were very pricey. The last thing he wanted was to take advantage of his family. Brent glared at his nephew before he let the teen have it.
"Boy, I'm telling you right now. You're gonna go pick out a bow to put on that pup. You're taking her home with Edd where she belongs." Kevin once again was left surprised. Brent had never spoke to him like that. The redhead chuckled and offered a hand out to Brent. The two shook hands before watching Eddward leading the puppy he didn't know was his back to her spot in the barn.
"Uncle Brent, Aunt Sam…. Thank you" Sam smiled at her nephew and husband. Edd was coming back now and it was time to lead the boys to the guest house. She was rather tired and was sure Brent was ready for bed. The redhead woman stretched while she stood up.
"Is the guest house okay?" She asked Kevin who smiled and nodded. He was tired himself and he too followed suite of his aunt as he waited for Edd to get to the porch.
"I know my way around. Why don't you guys head to bed?" Kevin hadn't even finished the suggestion before his aunt was making her way to her room. Brent chuckled and said his good night's before following his wife.
"Where are we staying?" a soft familiar voice asked in slight confusion. Kevin turned to Edd a big dangerous grin plastered on his face as he pointed to the large house that mirrored his aunts. The sock head didn't even try to contain his bewilderment as his eyes looked over the two story guest home.
"Double D, We get the guest house."
