Eddward and Kevin stared absentmindedly at the large house that had matched the rest of the homes nestled in the Cul-de-sac. They waited patiently for the detective that had investigated the Vincent homicide case. The man that Eddward had already met pulled both teens out of their silent thoughts.
"Greetings Detective Benning." Eddward announced to older man that was walking up the path. His dark hair was sprinkled with chunks of gray and his chubby face was inviting. The man smiled at Eddward.
"Greetings Eddward." Eddward smiled brightly at the officers choice of words. Detective Benning let his honey colored eyes scan Kevin. "Hello young man, you must be Kevin?" The redhead nodded quietly as he scanned the older man. Kevin was impressed. The man was probably close to 60 but he looked like he was in the best shape of his life. The salt and pepper man held his hand out for kevin to shake. Kevin wasted no time taking the Detective's hand.
"It nice to meet you sir." Kevin said in a polite tone. Detective Benning smiled deciding he like the redhead.
"Before we go in. Eddward, I need to talk about some disturbing circumstances concerning your case." The old detective gave the teen a moment to let the information sink in. "Is it alright for me to proceed, or would you rather talk privately?" Eddward eyed the man before glancing at Kevin. The redhead smiled softly before reaching out and giving Eddward's hand a squeeze.
"If I need to get lost for sec I can. Do what makes you comfortable." Kevin's reassurance was all the sock head needed.
"I would like him to stay." The officer smiled kindly and let out a sigh. He rubbed his neck and glanced up at the house.
"Your case was cut and dry kiddo." Eddward eyed the man slightly confused. "At first we found some inconsistencies with your story. You left some details out." The dark haired teen sighed and looked to the ground in embarrassment. "And considering the rather large inheritance. My colleagues considered you a suspect, but off the record I never believed it. so I did extra digging." Eddward eyed the man with confusion.
"I'm sorry to interrupt, but...what inheritance?" Detective Benning grinned at the question.
"This is why I knew your were innocent. you never sought after the money. That lead me to believe you didn't know about it." Benning took a large breath before continuing. " My boys owe you one hell of an apology. They got so caught up in believing you did it, they forgot to do actual police work." Kevin raised his brow with a disapproving scowl. The detective smiled at the gesture.
"How was it such a "cut and dry" case?" The redhead asked in a slightly irritated voice. The older man sighed sadly before looking Eddward straight in his eyes.
"They completely overlooked them. I did not." The officer paused. he didn't want to explain the next part.
"What?" Eddward asked perplexed. He didn't know what he had meant by them. His blue eyes watched as the officer gathered his courage.
"The surveillance tapes of inside your house." Eddward immediately felt sick and the world began to spin.
"My parents were SPYING on me?" The dark haired teen let his body fall to the ground. "What...why? I don't understand." Detective Benning joined Eddward on the ground and sighed.
"Your father has. He has some rather disturbing evidence against him concerning you.I think it's best we leave it at that." Eddward wasn't sure what to say or do. His mind wasn't ready for any of this. He knew he wasn't ready for whatever was behind his father's reasoning over the surveillance tapes. The small teen nodded to the officer and put his hand out to Kevin asking for help up. Kevin obeyed and once up pulled Eddward into a tight hug. The teen began to sob into the crook of Kevin's neck. Detective Benning placed a sympathetic hand on the teens shoulder.
"Kiddo, we can wait another day. I will drop whatever I'm doing and come escort you through the house anytime." Eddward lifted his head and smiled kindly at the old detective.
"That's awfully kind of you…" The small teen began as he sighed. "But, I'm ready...Would you mind if I went and got my dog?"
"As of.." Benning paused and looked at his watch "Saturday March 3rd at 3:30 pm this house became yours again. You can go get your dog."
Detective Bennings brown eyes widened as the giant fluffy pup flopped happily on her leash. Once Eddward stopped the giant baby took her spot on his feet. She sat proudly on her owner and wagged her tail as she stared happily up at the old man.
"That is a puppy, right?" Benning asked the teens who both shared a laugh. The puppy wagged her tail harder when the detective took a knee to pet her.
"What's her name?" Eddward and Kevin shared a look before the smaller of the two sighed. Eddward keep his eyes on his fluffy dog and frowned.
"She doesn't have a name." Eddward sighed out finally. "We can't decide between Lucy or Gwen." The dark haired teen watched as the detective stood up after giving the pup one final pat. "Do you have a name idea?" The man genuinely smiled before answering.
"I've always been fond of the name Tori." as soon as the name slipped passed Detective Benning's lips the fluffy mess on Eddward's shoes tilted her head and barked. All three looked at the black fluffy ball.
"Tori?" Eddward inquired. The puppy tilted her head the other way in response. "Perhaps you are fond of Tori as well?" She stood and wagged her tail happily at her owner.
"Tori." Kevin called. The dog bounded towards the redhead before plopping both paws on his waist. The redhead nodded with a grin. "Okay girl. we gottcha." Eddward smiled at Kevin and placed a hand on Tori's head.
"Tori it is. Thank you Detective Benning." The man smiled fondly at the dog before setting his eyes back to the house. Kevin and Eddward followed his lead. The blue eyed teen slowly picked Tori off of Kevin and held her tight. The dog was heavy but Eddward managed to held her tight against him anyway. Slowly he led the way to the house he used to live in. Once at the door Detective Benning brought the Keys to the house out of his pocket. It didn't take the man much time to jimmy the door open. Eddward let his eyes adjust before risking a step in. It was hard for Eddward to believe that this cold house matched his new home across the street at the Barr's. His house had always seemed a bit cold for some reason. The small teen hadn't noticed when he took up residence in the large house. Kevin's home was warm and bright and happy. This home was cold and always rather empty. Kevin stepped in next to Eddward and sighed.
"I think this is the first time I've ever been in here." The redhead said as he placed a hand next to one of the many sticky notes that covered the house. Eddward had made it to the stairs before he sat on the step that he was almost murdered on. He held Tori close and cried into her fur as she wagged her tail and covered the teen in kisses. She began to whine as she attempted the best she could to soothe her master.
"I can't do this." Eddward sobbed out. "I'm sorry..I thought I could, but I can't."
The dark haired teen began to shake as he repeated the same sentence momentarily forgetting the other two people in the house.
"He was gonna shoot me." Kevin's eyes widened as he figured out the part of the story Eddward had left out to the police. Eddward had been home and he was almost a part of the crime scene. Kevin let the shock Subside before making his way to Tori and Edd. he placed a gentle hand on the teen causing slight panic to erupt through the smaller of the pair.
"Hey, It's me. it's Kevin." Eddward let his eyes adjust to Kevin. "Baby, it's okay. You are okay. I'm here." Kevin was now on his knees holding Eddward's face in his hands. "I will do whatever it takes to make sure you're safe from now on."
"You're not upset with me?" Eddward asked Kevin slowly. the redhead shook his head and embraced Tori and Eddward tightly.
"You're so brave." Kevin repeated to the dark haired teen. They sat for a while in the same position before Kevin spoke up. "Let's go home." Detective Benning took the clue and opened the door for the pair. it wasn't very long before all three were on the lawn. Eddward let himself fall to the ground and released his grip on Tori. He could hear steps coming towards him and felt arms familiar wrap around him. The scent of cologne and popcorn filled his nose. It was a scent he recognizes immediately.
"It's okay D." A voice whispered out only confirming Edds suspension. The small teen hugged the figure back and cried harder.
"Eddy" Eddward sobbed out. The said teen sighed before sitting on the ground and pulling the sock clad teen closer. Eddward jumped when someone new clasped his hands. His blue eyes looked up into another pair of darker blue eyes. Nazz gave a small smile as Eddward pulled himself far enough off Eddy to survey the rest of the group. Ed, Rolf, Sarah, Jimmy, and even Johnny all stood on his lawn. The teen looked up to Nazz in confusion.
"We didn't want you to be alone...so here we are" Nazz answered with a smile. Eddward sobbed harder as he pulled Nazz down with the hand she had giving him. Both Eddy and Nazz created a shell around Eddward, as the hugged him tightly. Kevin smiled proudly at his neighbors.
"This is a good place." The detective said as he smiled at the show. A chuckle escaped as he watched Tori try and make her way into the Eddward cocoon. Finally Eddy moved his arms enough for the fluffy puff to get in.
"There you go fluff ball." Tori quickly accepted the invite and tore her way through.
"I hope so." Kevin answered the detective. "But at this point I'm ready to burn this house to the ground." Detective Benning nodded his head in understanding.
"I don't blame you kid."
It had been a few hours since Eddward had visited the house he grew up in. It was a wonder to him how he now found himself sat at the local pizza shop surrounded by all his childhood companions. It was nice to have the Cul-de-sac kids back together even if it was for a dark reason. It felt well over due. The group chattered and laughed over passed adventurers. Kevin keep a curious eye on his girlfriend who had chosen to sit next to Eddy. In the past the redhead would of been so angry and jealous that he would of pounded the teen and left him a mess on the floor. Today however, Kevin was able to sit next to the lovely and always interesting Eddward Marion Vincent. It boggled his mind how little he minded watching Nazz laugh at Eddy's jokes as she elbowed him in response. Kevin's minds went places he had never ever in a million years thought they would go. As he watched the pair talk and laugh Kevin's thoughts swirled into one sentence he didn't dare speak out loud. "They look good together." The redhead then immediately wondered if he and Eddward looked good together. A sigh escaped the redhead. He needed to get his mind together. Who cared if he and Eddward looked good, and come on man. Eddy is flirting with Nazz and she's flirting back. get mad. get sad. get Jealous? Anything?
"Kevin?" A soft voice asked bringing him out of his inner fight. Kevin let his green eyes look into vibrant sky blue eyes. 'oh yeah' The redhead thought as he looked down at Eddward. HE cared if they looked good together, and it didn't matter if Eddy and Nazz seemed to be hitting it off. It just didn't.
"What?" Kevin asked the small dark haired teen. Eddward chanced a peek at Eddy and Nazz. The blonde currently had her hand covering Eddy's eyes. The taller dark haired teen wore a grin as he guessed gulped nervously.
"Are you alright?" The blue eyed teen asked Kevin. The red cap clad teen smiled and bumped his shoulder into Eddward.
"I'm wonderful, why you ask dorko?" Eddward sighed and looked back to the flirting giggling blonde that now had Eddy's phone. Eddy in return half heartedly attempted to rescue the device back.
"My best friend seems to be more friendly than normal with uh...Nazz?" Eddward answered as if it was obvious. Kevin chuckled a bit before resting his hand on the back of Eddward's chair.
"One hell of a plot twist right? Cheerleader and the king of scams." Kevin said with a brow raised. Eddward wore a concerned face. Kevin taking things in stride was extremely out of character. Kevin sighed before leaning in close to Eddward.
"It doesn't matter. Not anymore." Eddward took a drink of his water and sighed in confusion.
"But Kevin?" The small teen asked with a pout. "Why?" The redhead slumped in his chair and covered his green eyes with his hat. Now wasn't the time to overload Eddward with his own feelings. The small teen needed time to grieve his parents before sorting out Kevin's. So the redhead smiled softly and let another sigh escape.
"I'll tell you another time. for sure." Kevin gave the concerned teen a wink. Eddward sighed and played with his straw. He wanted to know what Kevin had meant, but he wasn't about to push it. Both watched Eddy and Nazz giggle and play while they waited to eat.
"One things for sure. I feel like we are gonna have to spell it out for them." Kevin said as he took a sip of his soda.
"Spell what out, Kevin?" Eddward asked with a smile as he watched Eddy roll his eyes at Ed who had kissed his chicken magazine.
"That Nazz and Eddy are crushing hard." Eddward choked on his water he sipped at and began to cough a bit.
"D, you okay?" Eddy asked from across the table. The said teen smiled and waved while patting his chest.
"I'm...alright Eddy." Eddward coughed out as he drank more water to clear his throat.
"Are you sure dude?" Nazz asked with one of her brows raised. Eddward waved at the girl as he took another drink and nodded. Kevin was right, but the fact he said it out loud surprised him. The group chattered and moved on from Eddward's choking incident.
"What is your plan Kevin?" The said teen sighed. what was his plan. As normal he didn't have one. Kevin did however know he needed to make Nazz available.
"I need to talk to her tonight." Kevin said as he watched the waiter bring their food. All thoughts on the matter scattered as their pizzas were placed on their table.
"I would quite enjoy an evening walk with my friends." Eddward whispered to Kevin. The redhead nodded and grabbed a slice of pepperoni. This was one of the biggest reason Kevin liked Eddward. He just got it. not only got it, but made attempts to help. The teen smiled before taking a large bite of cheesy goodness.
"Thanks babe." Eddward blushed and took another sip of water. This was the second time today Kevin had used a name of endearment when speaking to the dark haired teen. It embarrassed Eddward to no end, but at the same time the dark haired teen loved it. so the name slipped past, Eddy and Nazz continued to flirt without realizing, and Ed poured a flask of gravy over his pizza. An act that single handedly creeped out everyone except Edd, Eddy, and Sarah who casually ate their food.
Kevin started his car and sat in silence. Nazz waved happily at the three Ed's. Both teens in the car watched as the three made their way across the street. It had been surprisingly cold and Kevin had insisted Eddward wear his letterman jacket. Kevin could see from his spot in the driver's seat that the small teen was drowning in the jacket.
"Dude, that jacket is huge on him. It's so cute." Kevin had to agree with Nazz. Eddward looked adorable in his jacket. The redhead played it cool as he pretended not to notice, but mentally noted to have the raven teen wear the jacket more. The redhead put his car in reverse and pulled out towards the Cul-de-sac.
"It was choice of you and Eddy to support Double D." Kevin said breaking the silence that had plagued them. Nazz gave one of her megawatt smiles and nodded. silence engulfed the pair and before Kevin had said anything of importance they had pulled into the Barr driveway.
"Kevin, can I say something?" Kevin eyed the beautiful blonde before shaking his head yes. Nazz smiled sadly and fiddled with her skirt. "I wanna go back to being friends." Kevin let out a breath he didn't know he was holding.
"Me too Nazz." Kevin sighed out. The blonde looked at the redhead with surprise. a sigh of relief escaped her lips.
"I miss being friends. I realized too late that the love I felt for you was more like...I don't know...siblings? Then the thing with Double D happened and I saw you so much less, but it didn't bother me like it should have, and it gave me time to think. I wanted to talk to you forever ago, but I was so scared you would hate me." Tears began to swell in her eyes as she rambled on. "I just didn't feel that spark." Kevin knew exactly how she felt.
"Nazz, ME too. I was so worried about hurting you that I ignored my own feelings." Kevin took the blondes hand. "You are my best friend. Nothing changes that." Nazz began to cry and placed her head on Kevin's shoulder who gave her a hug in response. "Plus...I sorta think we like other people." Nazz looked slightly surprised at her now ex boyfriend.
"What?" Nazz asked perplexed. Kevin drummed his thumbs on the wheel. He wasn't sure if he should tell her or not. Kevin mulled over his decision before deciding he needed to tell someone.
"Well, You like Eddy." Nazz blushed and looked down at her hands. She wasn't sure what to say. She hadn't thought much about it, but now that someone said it out loud it made sense. "You know he likes you back, right?" Nazz's blue eyes sparkled as she looked to Kevin.
"Do you really think so dude?" As soon as the question left her mouth she blushed and went back to fidgeting. "Okay...I like him." Kevin chuckled and sighed before leaning his head on the back of his seat.
"You're not the only one with a taste for dork." Kevin announced earning his friends interest. The redhead looked over at Nazz who waited patiently for him to continue. "I'm in love with Double Dweeb." Kevin shocked himself with his wording. He suddenly jumped up and stared out his window leaving his equally shocked companion alone in her own thoughts.
"I meant like not love...wait do I love him?" The redhead thought out loud. The two sat in silence before a knock disturbed the pair. Both jumped and Kevin rolled down the window with a panicked blush. He sat face to face with his letterman jacket and the teen he and Nazz had been discussing.
"Salutations Kevin, Nazz." Eddward said with a smile. "I asked Susie, But Eddy insists I asked you as well. Would it be problematic if Eddy spent the night?" Kevin looked beyond Eddward and at Eddy who nervously kicked a rock and avoided the car.
"Can I spend the night too?" Nazz asked out of the blue with a blush. Kevin and Eddward stared at the blonde bombshell for a moment. The silence was broken by a loud laugh erupting from Kevin.
"Yes, I'm sure it would be fine. Just gotta let Momma Bear know we ain't a thing." Kevin said as he gestured between him and Nazz. Eddward looked slightly surprised but left the subject alone.
"I'm going to take that as a resounding yes, and take my leave." Eddward interrupted sensing they still needed a moment. The dark haired teen leaned into the window a pecked a small kiss on the redhead's cheek. "Thank you Kevin." The redhead blushed furiously as Eddward walked back to his friend. The two boys walked towards Eddy's to get the teens overnight items. Nazz laughed hard and Kevin glared unamused at the girl.
"Dude you're totally in love with him." Nazz said smugly. Kevin sighed and hit his head against his window. The redhead teen turned his car off and sunk into his seat.
"Let's go talk to my mom and get your shit, so we can get you into Eddy's fucking pants." Kevin grumbled out as Nazz clapped her hands a squealed.
"Dude, tonight's gonna be so much fun. It's like a double date!" The blonde happily got out of the car and skipped around a bit. Kevin frowned and sighed.
"Ya, except neither Ed is aware it's a date." Kevin pointed out while making his way to his front door. He paused on his porch. Quickly he turned to look at the girl he had been dating up until 15 minutes ago. Somehow they had slipped right back into being normal Kevin and Nazz, and Both were relived. The redhead clasped Nazz's small shoulders and shook her a bit.
"Bruh, we sketchy." Kevin announced to the girl he was shaking. Nazz laughed and shrugged her shoulders.
"Don't worry Kevin. We can laugh at this later at our double weddings. ha get it? Double...Now let's go talk to your momma." Kevin followed the girl inside with a sigh. This was gonna be a weird night. Kevin just knew it.
"Nazz, your kinda creepy." The blonde only laughed and shrugged her shoulders. She couldn't deny it, but that was about to be Eddy's problem.
