Chapter 30: Coming soon to a Hospital near you...

5 weeks until arri-

Time was closing in on us. All of the sudden things were crashing down on us and I couldn't see the line between new life and death. Everything was happening so fast and I couldn't stop it. I thought my heart was about to leave my chest as I drove.

I would have never guessed this is what would happen after so long...

Earlier the same day...

Lovi wasn't really feeling very good today. He was laying in bed half of the day, and didn't really move around much when I asked him anything. To be honest, neither one of us even got out of bed. until after noon. It was almost one when I got out of bed to go get us both something to eat.

I was in the kitchen making lunch when I heard foot steps coming from the direction of the bedroom, that made their slow wobbly way to the kitchen table. Lovi was sitting there with today's paper in his hand that I left there and was going to read... after I gave him his lunch and everything had been up again. (Because Lovi still has time to complain about his kitchen being dirty even when he barely goes in there to see it. I just hope he isn't as mean whenever Dantè gets here...)

It was a quiet afternoon after that. Lovi was reading some book he keeps stashed in the living room and I was filling out some stuff that I was given by his doctor so that everything could be ready. It wasn't going to be long now. Five weeks really wasn't long when you think about it and Lovi was so big right now I'm surprised he can keep his balance when he walks.

Mi amor might not be very tiny, but I know him. He used to get very sick and weak when he was a child. There were times when he was so sick I had other people do his work because he just could not get out of bed and I would be the only one he would let in the room. Mainly because he didn't want all of the girl servants to see him so sick, but he made me swear to secrecy. Like I was saying, he's not small, but this extra weight can't be very good on his already extremely fragile body.

Lovi never ceases to amaze me, even eight months pregnant he still looks good. He still wakes up every morning (well close enough) and showers, he'll do his hair and make himself look like he's going to leave the house. Then he'll put on something comfortable ("Stupid fat stomach! I can't even make this look good!") and then just sit inside all day.

"We do have everything ready, right?" He asked out of the blue, not even looking up from his book. Another one of his traits that he seemed to have kept.

"Everything is prepared." I said with a nod, when though those hazely-green eyes were ignoring me. I watched him carefully. I noticed his small smile that was on his lips lately. It never seemed to fade away when he was relaxed.

There were times when he realized he couldn't do things that he wanted to when he would frown, but that was pretty much it. I couldn't help but grin lately because I just love seeing mi Lovi smile so much.

That's pretty much how the afternoon went. At sunset we took a walk outside, because Lovi wanted some fresh air and I wanted to go outside anyway. (It was also the perfect excuse to walk and hold his hand where he can't stop me!)

"It's so nice outside tonight. October weather certainly is perfect." Lovi commented, leaning against me when we stopped for a moment to look at the sky.

"I prefer November..." I whispered, kissing his forehead. "By the way, when is Ita's little girl due?"

"Emalyn will be here sometime this week." He replied in his matter-of-fact tone.

"Emalyn?"

"Si, Emalyn Ilyse Va-" He stopped himself and glared at the ground a little. "Beilschmidt..." He finished, kind of bitterly as if it burned his tongue to say that last name.

"I know. You're still a little angry that he didn't tell you. But honestly... They're doing better than us."

"It's not like it happened on purpose!" Lovi said, his eye tearing up a little. "I didn't even think about it. W-we were going to get married but then my ass got pregnant and we have to wait until after he's born an-"

"Shhh, Lovi. It's okay." I whispered, pulling the shaking Italian into my arms. I held him as close as I could without hurting him and ran a hand down his back. "It'll all work out. I promise you." I kissed the top of his head, letting out a sigh of my own. Behind my back I could feel his hands move, and something inside of me told me he was messing with his ring again. A habit he has picked up and does when he;s upset or nervous about something.

He plays with it alot when we're at the doctor and sometimes when we're at home. Most of the time it's when we're waiting on any kind of results to come back. Or even when he's just waiting on a call from Ita.

"I'm going to bed early. I'm tired." He whispered. So I led him inside and to the bedroom so he could do so.

I went to bed a few hours after he did. After I cleaned the kitchen and living room. I also took a shower and took a peek in the nursery because I wanted to make sure everything was in place. (Even the special Toma-turtle that I MADE was sitting in the crib and looking all cute.)

So eventually I was able to fall asleep.

"Lookie at this Papá! I found it by that puddle over there! Isn't it cute?"

"Yes it is! But let's go get you cleaned up before we both get in trouble."

"Okay..."

Was this a dream?

W-was that supposed to be Dantè?

He's so cu-

I was snapped out of my peaceful sleep by a loud yell from the figure beside me. I shot up and turned on the lamp to look at Lovi. I've never seen him in so much pain before. Could it be? No, it's too soon.

"T-toni... I-... It's... Dantè... Hospital... now!" Lovi stuttered, grabbing my sleep shirt in a fist. Oh yeah, it's happening alright.

"It's okay Lovi! Let's just get up and go! Come on!"

"He's early!"

"I KNOW! LET'S JUST GET YOU TO THE HOSPITAL!"

NONONONONONONONO

I AM NOT READY FOR THIS!
