Chapter 38: How to fix a broken family before it's too late.\
Fratello has been staying with me and Luddy for the past three days. He showed up at the house in Rome where we had been staying since Emalyn was born. When he opened the door, he had tear stains on his face. He didn't even glare at Ludwig when he walked in. I could tell he was upset, call it my brother sense. I can never sense the mood, unless it came to Lovino.
Of course he didn't show up completely alone. In his arms he had this mini version of Spain which I automatically knew it was Dantè. He was so tiny and cute~! He must have mistaken me for Lovino at one point because he kinds-sorta reached for me.
Anyway! Back to the crisis at hand.
He hasn't said much since his arrival back here. All he's done is take care of Dantè and work all day, then sleep (when he could) at night. Sometimes, me or Luddy would walk by and hear him crying. Sometimes I would walk in and check on him.
In the mornings, he would act like nothing was wrong at all.
This morning seemed to go really well too. By time I was up and had Emalyn all dressed and cute looking, Lovino and Luddy were in the kitchen.
Ludwig was even holding Dantè while Fratello was doing something, and he was perfectly okay with it. But my little nephew seemed to enjoy hitting him in the nose. So I could here a bunch of soft "ows" and "Please stop it mini-Spain-and-Romano spawn, and the best part I could hear Lovino laughing at him.
I walked in and set Emalyn in her bouncy chair that I keep in the kitchen so I can watch her and cook while Luddy is busy. Since he's actually holding his nephew I'll let it slide. Emalyn made a cooing noise, making Fratello turn around to look at us as I put her it.
"'Giorno, Feliciano." He said, turning back around to do what he was doing.
"Good morning, Fratello. You're up early." I chirped back, kissing Luddy real quick while he was turned around. Not that Lovino isn't used to it already, but since I'm kinda sure he's not in the mood for couples right now I'll be curty- curtiou-... nice.
"Dantè wasn't sleeping well, and I woke up to take care of him. Your potato of a husband decided to help me out." Lovino said, nodding towards Luddy who nodded.
"I just asked and he agreed. Maybe he's warming up to me." Ludwig said with a small smile as Dantè his his nose again.
"Nice try, Bastard. Even Dantè called you on that one." Lovino said under his breth and walked towards the two with a bottle in hand. He gently took Dantè from Ludwig's arms and whispered something to the baby before walking off.
Ludwig sighed. "He's still not talking about what happened between him and Spain. I even asked him, but we know he wouldn't answer to me." He said softly, waiting until he heard Fratello's bedroom door shut before reaching over to play with Emalyn.
"Give him time, Luddy. You know they fight a bunch." I replied beginning to get Emalyn's morning bottle ready. "It's just a bigger bump than usual."
"Have you talked to Spain?"
"No. Should I call him?"
"Nein. You should try talking to him again." Luddy told me, walking over behind me. His arms wrapped around my waist and pulled me close to him. "If he'll talk to anyone, I'm sure he would tell you. When he's ready of course."
"You're right."
I waited a few hours after I was sure Lovino wasn't completely busy. He was doing a bunch of work stuff lately because of Italy's little issue that was being cleared up. (Which I think was also helping him clear his mind...) I also made sure Dantè was awake so I didn't risk waking him up and making Fratello mad when I did.
"What is it?" He called from inside the room. I heard the comforter on the bed move a little. I guess he wa ssitting there playing with Dantè, or something because I could hear the adorable baby noises.
"Can I talk to you?" I asked, using the voice that he nor Luddy could resist when I use it. He opened the door and looked at me. It was like he had to make sure it was me and not anyone else with me.
"Sure. Just come in here." He said and pulled me into the room and closed the door. "What is it?"
"What happened with Spain?" I asked. I didn't mean to be so blunt about it. I wanted to know what upset my big brother. He would do the same if Luddy and I were to fight, right?
"We had an argument." He replied, leaning against the wall.
"You guys do that all the time."
"He acted like he didn't want Dantè." Lovino whispered harshly. "He made me feel like Dantè and I were just a burden to him. Like I was useless in raising our son."
"So you left?" I asked in disbelief. "You broke up your family because you felt insecure?"
"I was already stressing out! I wasn't thinking clearly. When he started yelling back I didn't know what to do." He crossed his arms over his chest after wiping his eyes. "It was a stupid misunderstanding but I needed some time to calm down."
"So you came here." I concluded. "You feel safe and comfortable when you're here in Rome. It's just how you are." Spain may know alot about Lovino. He probably knows he's worst fears and nightmares. But he would never understand the feeling of wholeness Lovino and I feel when we are in our home country at the same time. That bond is stronger than any kind of relationship we may have.
Lovino nodded and wiped his face again. "I felt so useless. It was awful." He rubbed a spot on his hand. "My ring must have fallen off when I grabbed my keys. I didn't notice until I got here."
I watched as my big brother attempted to keep himself from crying. He walked over and picked up his baby and held him close. "I'll go back when I feel better, but right now I think I need to be here."
Nodding in understanding, I left the room without another word. When the door was closed behind me I ran o my bedroom to retrieve my cellphone. I quickly dialed a number and waited for the answer.
"It's Italy. You need to get your butt to Rome. Pronto."
