AN: I am so angry with myself right now. I forgot to add warlock to the list of things they were trying to mix. I'm going to go back and add it, it's irritating me knowing it isn't there, but I wanted to let you guys know since you already read that chapter.

Alec POV

Simon let out a small chuckle, but stopped when he saw the seriousness on our faces. "Wait, you guys are actually being serious?" he asked. I could tell he was hoping that we were just playing around, pulling his leg as mundanes would say, and part of me wished that that were true. This situation would be a lot less dire if my father was abducted by a normal, low level demon with a bone to pick with shadowhunters. Clary looked at us confused, "Who are The Mortem and why haven't I heard of them before?" she asked.

Magnus decided to take this one, "About three, maybe four, decades ago there was a shadowhunter who believed that all of the shadow world needed to unite. His name was Damien Bellewood. He approached the Clave with his theory. He thought that we would all be stronger together, but of course they turned down his offer. They told him to never even utter those words again. However, the rejection only fueled his resolve. He warned them that one day they would regret their decision and stormed out of the building. No one really saw him after that. The Clave decided not to tell anyone since they didn't believe him to be a threat. They left every shadowhunter and downworlder blinded to what was truly going on, even though they didn't know themselves.

Years passed and there wasn't even a whisper of him. He was the last of his bloodline, so none of you would recognize the name. After a while everyone just assumed he died, and it was a shame too, the Bellewoods were well known. After his parents death the Clave decided to just take the name out of history, since there was no one to continue the bloodline. One day out of the blue a werewolf child went missing. Then shortly after a fey, warlock, and newly turned vampire disappeared. Once the warlock disappeared I confronted the Clave about it. They denied any part in the abductions and were furious that I even asked. No downworlder believed them of course. So naturally, some tried to fight back. They attacked institutes and even tried breaking into shadowhunters fought back of course. Catrina was keeping tabs on everything, as was I.

We knew there was a plan to attack Alicante again, but instead of sitting by and doing nothing we went to try and stop the massacre that was bound to happen. When we arrived the battle was in full swing, hundreds of dead bodies littered the ground. I saw a man walk out of the trees, his stride determined. No one else noticed him till he spoke, he said, "Your fighting is useless, yet you do it anyway. You know that you will never be able to get through alone, so why not ban together and fight your common enemy?" I will never forget those words as long as I live. The fighting ceased upon hearing his voice. A Clave member, Aiden was his name, recognized him immediately. That's when they put it all together. Damien had kidnapped the children, trying to make an even bigger rift between everyone. He wanted them to fight. Before anyone could speak he called out a name, "Vladimir!" There was movement heard from the trees and from the branches a man leaped out into the open.

The moment I saw him I knew something wasn't right about him. As he got closer I saw that his hands were surrounded by green fire, he had extended canines, and claws. His hair was a spiky dark blue while his skin was pale. I was speechless. I couldn't believe what was in front of me. But the most shocking thing about him had to be the powerful silver wings that adorned his back. He didn't have them fully extended, nor did he fly in on them, but I could tell that they were powerful. It almost felt like power was radiating off of them. As he walked up to where Damien was standing he passed by me and I got a glimpse of his eyes. They were black. He had no irises, his whole eye was consumed by the color. It was the darkest shade of black I had ever seen.

People from all species cowered away in horror of the being in front of us. When he finally made his way up to Damien he stopped. Aiden stared at Damien. From the look on his face I could tell he knew something. Damien said, "I told you! I warned you!" Aiden only said in response, "What did you do you fool?! Have you no decency?! No respect!" Damien let out a laugh, "In the beginning I just wanted to unite everyone, but now my motives have changed."

He then turned to the crowd behind him and said, "Years ago I approached the Clave with a new idea. Not just any idea, but an idea of peace. I envisioned a world where we all worked together, where there was harmony. Hell, we probably would've eventually had a mixing of the bloodlines. But the Clave shut me down. They thought my idea to be foolish. So I stormed out, warning them that their betrayal would cost them one day. And now I am here to make good on my promise. Not too long ago I realized that my vision of peace was unattainable, at least the way I was going about it. I realized that the hatred between us all was too thick. So I decided that we needed an example to follow. And that example is standing right here next to me." he gestured towards the male to his left, "HE is the future. He is our future. He is half vampire, half werewolf, half fey, and half warlock. Shadowhunter blood refused to mix with the others, but in time it will." he said. I was horrified. He was playing with powers stronger than him and I knew the consequences would be dire.

What surprised me was what he had said next, "I am not here for unnecessary bloodshed. I am here to show you the future. And now that you have seen it who here will follow me in order to make this future happen?" At first the area was dead silent, no one dared move or speak. Then Aiden decided to infuriate the most powerful enemy he has ever had, "Like anyone would join you. That thing you created is an abomination. Just like you. I'm glad your parents aren't alive to see this, you're pathetic. You caused the death of countless innocents for what? To come here and show us your disgusting invention? Do you really think anyone would pledge allegiance to you? Are you-" But he never got to finish.

During his little insulting speech Damien had made some sort of hand gesture and Vladimir shot straight forward, sticking his hand into Aiden's chest. As blood started to pour out of his mouth Vladimir used his canines to rip out his throat. He then ripped the heart out and crushed it in his hand, before he stepped back into place next to Damien. He licked his fingers and a deep growl rumbled from his chest. It even shook the ground. He looked around, seeing the fear clear on everyone's face. Then he spoke, "Who will join us?" I can't describe his voice too well. It took a minute, but people actually started to walk up to him, from all sides. They all bowed on one knee and Damien gave a devilish grin. He then turned around and walked off the battlefield, his followers behind him. Vladmir took one last glance at Aiden's lifeless body before he flew away. After that, they attacked numerous times, having Vladimir with them each time brought them victory. They took weapons and several shadowhunters. No one knew how to stop them, those who tried ended up dead. He had an obvious vendetta against the shadowhunters, since he rarely attacked anyone else. They refused to ask for help of course, but everyone knew what was happening. Strangely though, after a while it all stopped. They weren't heard of again. Not until now at least."

The infirmary was silent, no one knew what to say. I never heard that much of the story before. All I knew was that a bunch of shadowhunters and downworlders had joined together once, and that it went against everything they knew and were supposed to believe in. People started calling them The Mortem, which meant death in Latin. "So for all we know these 'Mortem' people and their creation could be dead. This could be just someone who idolized them, a copycat." Simon suggested. I looked at Magnus, "Is it possible that Damien's creation is dead?" I asked him. He stood up from the infirmary bed and started pacing. "Honestly Alec, I don't know. I'm sure Vladimir could be killed, everyone can be killed, but with that toxic mixture he has running through his veins it would be extremely difficult." I noted how Magnus kept calling the thing a he, before I could voice my curiosity Simon beat me to it, "If this thing is an abomination why do you continuously call it by its name?" he asked. Magnus' head jerked towards Simon, he looked him dead in the eye, "We do not get to choose how we were born or whose blood runs through our veins Simon. You'd be wise to remember that." he said, storming out of the infirmary. Simon stood there perplexed, "What did I say?" he wondered aloud. In that very moment all I wanted to do was launch myself at Simon. At the same time I was angry with myself. Of course Magnus addressed him as he did. I can't believe I didn't see it before!

Beyond pissed I threw the covers back from my legs and stood up. I was feeling a lot better now, maybe even completely healed. "I swear to Raziel I would kill you right now if my sister didn't love you." I said, going after Magnus. As I walked out I heard Simon cry out in pain and Izzy's "Idiot." I walked down the hall, trying to think of where Magnus would go. He wouldn't go home would he? No, he wouldn't leave without telling me first, or taking me with him. So the next best thing would be... my old room! I ran up the steps and down the halls until I came to my old door. It was open slightly. When I pushed it open all the way I found Magnus staring out the window. He looked at me briefly when I walked in, then went back to staring out the window. "Hey Mags." I said, walking towards him, but only stopping a few feet away from him. He didn't answer me.

I sighed, "Ignore Simon, he didn't mean anything by what he said. Not too long ago he was a mundane, blame it on that." I said the last part trying to lighten the mood, but failed miserably. I walked a few steps closer and I saw a lone tear on his cheek. "Oh Mags, please don't cry." I said, walking up to him and wrapping my arms around him from the back. He reacted by turning around in my arms and putting his head on my shoulder. "I'm sorry baby." I said, rubbing soothing circles on his back. His head jerked up and he stared down at me, "What?" I asked. He smiled, "You called me baby." he said. I laughed, "Yeah, I guess I did." I said. "Do it again?" he asked.

I shook my head at him, "No, never again." He pouted, "Please, for me." I laughed again, "Not gonna happen Mags." I said. He huffed, pulling himself from my embrace. He walked over to the bed, holding my hand, and plopped down on it, bringing me with him. Usually I was always the one seeking comfort from Magnus, so when he put his head under my chin and curled up into me, I was surprised. I was also happy that for once he needed my shoulder to cry on, instead of the other way around. "I don't know what came over me," he began, "but when he talked about Vladimir like he was nothing it made my blood boil. I mean, I know he wasn't talking about me, but he might as well have been. Some people look at me and think I'm an abomination, more than some actually. It usually doesn't bother me because I know who and what I am, but when Simon said it, I just..." I understood what he was trying to tell me, and I hated Simon for making him feel this way. Ok, so I didn't hate him, but I was still angry. "It's okay Magnus, I understand. I know I didn't go through what you did as a child, or even now, but I get what you're trying to tell me. But I hate that he made you think like this. I hate that he made you cry. And I hate everyone that ever made you feel like, or tried to make you feel like you're worthless. Or that you were an abomination, because you're not Magnus. You're the best person I've ever met. You're the best thing that has ever happened to me. I don't know what I would do without you. I love you Magnus." I said, feeling like it has been forever since I told him that I loved him. He moved his head from under my chin to look up at me, I saw more tears. I used my thumb to wipe them away, "Please stop crying baby." I said.

I realized too late that I had said the word that he begged me too, and he grinned. "Thank you. That made me feel a lot better." he said, giving me a peck on the lips. "Don't get used to that word, I most likely won't say it again. Ever." I said. He laughed, bringing his head back under my chin, "That's what you said last time." We fell into a comfortable silence, and eventually moved to get under the comforter and sheets. Magnus snapped his fingers and the lights went off, leaving us in a peaceful darkness. Just as I was drifting off to sleep I felt Magnus kiss my forehead, "I love you too Alexander Gideon Lightwood." he said. I went to sleep that night with a smile on my face, and for a moment, I was happy. Something I hadn't been in very long time. I knew tomorrow we would have to plan on how to and when to rescue my dad, but right now, in this moment, I allowed myself to let go and to enjoy this moment with the man that I loved.

So, how was it? Took forever to write I know. Hope you liked it. Some big surprises are coming up. I apologize for any grammatical errors, I tried to catch them all. Comment.
