A/N: So sorry for this chapter being so short, but there wasn't really much I could think of doing in this chapter. I hope you enjoy, darlings!
Chapter 15: A surprise and a new addition
Wednesday's POV
"Who are the maid and the soldier?" Lucas points to a photo in the family album.
"The maid is named Ebony, and the soldier is named Mortimer. Ebony's mother was the family's maid in the late eighteen hundreds. She was pregnant when she came to work for the family and in 1896 she gave birth to a little girl."
"Ebony?"
I nodded, "Mortimer Addams, who I think is a great uncle or grandfather to my father, I don't know, was three at the time. The two of them were close friends through their childhood and eventually fell in love and got married when Ebony was 18. Shortly after they married Ebony's mother died, Ebony took over the chores around the manor and Mortimer was drafted for World War 1. Shortly before the war ended, word came that Mortimer had been killed in combat. Ebony was stricken with grief, so she consumed a small bottle of poison so she and Mortimer would be together for all eternity."
"Wow…as sad as that story is, it's really beautiful."
I nod, smiling slightly, "Kind of like Romeo and Juliet."
Lucas smiled and leaned in to kiss me when we heard the door barge open, making us jump apart.
"Your mother's in labor, we're taking her to the hospital." father said as he and Uncle Fester helped mother out to the car.
"Should I go home?" Lucas asked.
I shook my head, "No, come with us. I could use the company."
Lucas nodded as everyone piled into the car and left for the hospital.
Twelve hours later…
"How long has it been?" Lucas asked.
I looked at the clock, "Thirteen hours. Want to go get some coffee?"
"Sure."
Lucas and I trudged through the halls as we went to get coffee for ourselves (grandma, Lurch, Uncle Fester, and Pugsley all fell asleep a few hours ago).
"Hey Weds?"
"Yes?"
"I know, it may not seem ideal for me to ask this now, but…I've wanted to for a while."
"What is-" I look over and lose my train of thought.
Lucas is on one knee, holding a diamond ring, "Wednesday Friday Addams, will you marry me?"
I must've stood there, smiling like an idiot, for five minutes before finally saying yes.
Just as Lucas was sliding the ring onto my finger, father came running down the hall.
"Father, what is it?" I put my hands behind my back, hoping he didn't notice the ring.
"You have a brother!"
"Really? That's wonderful." I try not to look nervous.
"Congratulations, Mr. Addams."
"Thank you, Lucas. Are you alright, Paloma, your sweating bullets."
"No, I'm perfectly fine."
Father looks as if he can tell I'm hiding something and raises an eyebrow. I sigh and show him the ring on my finger.
"If I didn't know any better, I'd say that looked like an engage…wait…what are you saying?"
"…Lucas and I are getting married."
"What?!"
"Lucas and I love each other and we're getting married?"
Father looks between the two of us, making Lucas a bit nervous.
"This is important; we should tell your mother."
"No! I mean not yet."
"Why not, this is big news."
"Yes, but…shouldn't we let her rest?"
"I think we should tell her. Nothing good comes from keeping secrets…not usually anyway."
I sigh and nod, knowing he's right. He leads Lucas and I into the room, where mother is resting, her hair still wet with sweat, holding my new brother.
She looked up and smiled slightly, "Hello, darling."
"Hello, mother. How are you feeling?"
"Much better. Come, there's someone I'd like you to meet." Mother moves the blanket away from the baby's face, "This is Pubert."
"Hello, Pubert…he looks so much like father."
Father smiles, "He has hints of your mother's features, too."
"Would you like to hold him?"
I carefully take Pubert and cradle him in my arms the way mother had.
Lucas smiles, "He's cute."
"Yes…" I notice mother look strangely at my hand, "Wednesday, is that what I think it is?"
I gulp and nod, not sure that mother will be alright with all of this, but I notice her smile a bit.
"You're not upset?"
"Why would I be upset, darling?"
"Well…because we're both so young."
"Age is merely a number, darling."
I smile, looking at Lucas, relieved mother is alright with this.
