Chapter 13: The Art of War part 3
Shin's POV:
I jumped from one tree branch to another. Rin was leaping through the trees right next to me. Lucy had Rin and I travel by treetop so that we would have a visual of the ground below. Ace, Lucy Tora, and Taiga traveled by ground because their magic made them our heavy hitters and they would fight better on solid ground. As we came to the end of the lines of trees, Rin and I dropped to the ground, right behind our other comrades.
"Glad you two could make it." Lucy said. Her voice was light and cheerful but anyone could hear the serious undertone. We marched out of the trees and into a large clearing. A large rectangle table was standing in the middle of said clearing.
"Well that isn't creepy at all. Nope not feeling creeped out here!" Rin muttered, sarcasm dripping off of her every word.
"Well I'm glad you feel that way Rin. You can be the first one to sit down since the table doesn't creep you out." Lucy turned and gave Rin a look. Rin grumbled and stomped her foot before she marched off and plunked down in a chair. We all followed after her and sat down next to her. Lucy sat on the end while Rin sat on Lucy's right and Ace and I sat on the left. Tora and Taiga sat together on the right. We all listened to the sounds of the slowly awakening forest before the snaps of twigs broke through the tranquil sounds. Several figures broke through the trees on the other side of the clearing. Black cloaks obscured the faces and figures of the people walking towards us. I felt Ace and Rin tense in preparation to fight but Lucy remained calm. The people walked over to the table and before they sat down, they ripped their cloaks off. I stared at the flashily dressed people in front of me while Rin and Acce fake gagged, and Taiga and Tora giggled behind their hands. Lucy sighed and slapped her hand to her forehead. The people who I assumed to be the rebels were dressed in very flashy clothing. They all struck a pose after shouting something about saving the world for justice and love.
"Lulu...are these guys some sort of hippie/superhero freak wannabes?" Rin asked, staring at the people with obvious disgust on her face.
"I believe that they are the rebels we are supposed to meet…" Lucy said slowly, looking over the weirdoes.
The so called rebels leaped into the air before landing on the table and striking a pose. They went on a very long tirade of how they were fighting for the well being of the world and the honor they would receive. I pushed my fingers into my ears to block out the whinny voice of the rebel leader. Rin was banging her head on the table and Ace was looking around for something to throw at the leader. I felt a small spike of magic and I turned and looked at an irritated Lucy. I removed my hand from my ears and Ace and Rin and I all payed attention to our leader. I almost felt sorry for the rebels. They ticked Lucy off and they were going to have to deal with the consequences. But these people were too annoying to really make me want to pity them.
"I don't know what you fools are doing but you should stop it now while I'm in a relatively good mood." Lucy's eyes hardened as she glared at the rebels. I could see them trembling from Lucy's cold tone and fierce glare. I let out a breathy chuckle and Rin giggled from behind her hand. The rebels glared pathetically at us as they climbed off of the table. They sat down and the rebel leader opened his mouth to speak but Lucy beat him to it.
"I organized this meeting because I thought the rebel force would be useful to the cause of destroying the System. I was obviously mistaken. Now I don't want you to be confused, but Team 0 does not need your help destroying the actual System and beating our former boss. We simply need the manpower to take down all of the agents that still side with the System. Now you have ten minutes to convince me that you can be useful. If I'm not convinced….then what happens after that will not be pretty." Lucy leaned back in her chair and crossed her arms. Lucy had gone into her cold and heartless mode. It was obvious as to why some people called her the Angel of Death.
"H-how dare you come here and say such thing to us,when you obviously need our help!" the rebel leader screamed and slammed his hands onto the table. I heard Ace scoff at this man's idiocy.
"You obviously didn't hear what I just said. We do not need you. It would be beneficial to have the rebel forces on our sides but that is not necessary to my war plan. It is you who needs us. The rebel forces have been held up in this forest and you lot have grown fat and lazy. You have not kept up with the training you received at the G.O.G so your men wouldn't be able to take down a greenhorn agent. If you prove your worth, I will train them and get them ready for war. If you continue on this path you will be destroyed by the System."
I sighed. This negotiation was going nowhere.
"Hey Tora! If the rebels fought the System on there own and failed wouldn't the System see them as traitors?" Taiga said while smiling and tilting her head to the side to make herself look cute.
"Yeah. And we all know that the System does to traitors….." Tora smiled maliciously.
I could see the rebels start to pale and inwardly panic. Their emotions were clearly displayed on their faces. They had completely forgotten their training….how sad.
"Ok…..we agree to your terms….." the leader of the rebels said quietly.
"Wise decision. Some of the top guilds will be aiding us but letting the guilds fight in this war will be a last resort." Lucy stood to her feet and we all rose with her.
"We will go collect our people and then you will show us to your base."
Lucy left no room for argument and proceeded to walk off. I could feel an unrecognizable buzz coursing through my body. I could tell that this whole war was going to get a whole lot more interesting but also a lot more dangerous.
Ace's POV:
We were marching with the guilds to the area where we had left the rebels. Lucy had instructed us all to walk with our guilds. I wanted to set the whole forest on fire because that stupid lizard was holding Lucy's hand. I had started to try and interfere but one really scary glare from Rin stopped me. Several times my demon horns had popped out of my head but Jura-san helped me calm down. We reached the clearing and the weirdos were still there. The surprised and horrified reactions from the guilds made me chuckle.
"You shall show us to your base." Lucy ordered the rebels. I could tell that she was tired and stressed because Lucy was always nice, sweet and courteous.
"Of course Miss. Follow us." The leader motioned with his hand before marching into the forest. We waited a moment before following him. The leader lead us to a cave and Rin opened her mouth, probably to make a rude comment, but Shin slapped his hand over her mouth. We walked deeper into the cave and waves of uneasiness wafted of off of all of us. There was something unsettling about this cave.
"Hey Lucy-nee…..do you think that there are bats in here?" Taiga whispered, clutching to her sister.
"I don't know Taiga. Maybe." Lucy whispered back.
"It's a cave Tai. Of course there are going to be bats." Tora stated calmly.
"Tora! Don't say that! You know how I feel about bats! And I thought that you got the message the last time we 'talked' about shortening my name." Taiga said, raising her first threateningly. Tora simply rolled her eyes and kept walking. We reached the end of the cave and the rebel leader pushed a small rock on the surface of the wall. The wall suddenly fell back and a gaping hole in the wall was revealed.
"After you Guardians." The leader sneered, bowing mockingly at us.
I saw a vein poke out of Rin's head and she would have probably attacked the man if Shin wasn't holding her back. Lucy stepped forwards into the hole. She activated her magic, causing her body to give of a golden glow. Before she disappeared into the darkness she turned to the leader.
"I want you to remember something sir. You are a very little man and you play a very small part in my plans. I can easily crush something as small as you so in the future don't push my tolerance for foolishness. Or I will crush you like the bug you are." Lucy whispered harshly. The leader nodded his head frantically. His face made him look like a deer caught in the headlights of a car. I wouldn't be surprised if the man passed out due to fear. Lucy had rightfully earned the title 'Angel of Death'.
Taiga and Shin muffled their laughter with their hands while Tora and Rin were laughing out loud. I could rather feel than see the shocked faces of Lucy's guild members.
"Well let's get this show on the road folks!" Rin stopped laughing and waltzed into the hole. We all followed after her. This was the first step in Lucy's big plan. I just hoped that everything worked out the way it was supposed to.
Taiga's POV:
I clutched onto my sister's hand, not wanting to lose her as we walked with our guild through the dim cave. Master Bob was chattering about something to Ichiya-san and the Tri men, and my sister and I, but I wasn't listening. My mind was too preoccupied with the thought of there being bats in here. I was dragged from my thoughts when Lucy-nee told of the weirdo leader. I laughed along with my fellow Guardians until it was time to enter that dark hole. I held Tora's hand tighter as we took our first steps into the darkness. With the second step we both took, the floor disappeared beneath our feet. I opened my mouth to scream but no sound came out. It was as if all the oxygen had been sucked out of my lungs. I clung to my sister and she held onto me. If we were going to hit the ground and have all our internal organs splattered across the ground we were going to do it together. We continued to fall and I began to wonder if we had fallen into some sort of magic loop hole. It was pitch black so I could use the walls to see if we had already fallen past something already. Tora's suddenly pulled on my hair making me turn to where I thought her face was. She tugged again making me look down straight into the bright light below us. I closed my eyes for a moment as the light enveloped us. I felt my body hit something soft and squishy and my eyelids snap open. I was lying on top of a giant, squishy cushion.
"We're alive?" Tora rasped out. It came out more like a question but I know that Tora was trying to make a statement.
"Yeah." I giggled weakly.
"Glad to see you two in one piece." I looked up to see Lucy-nee grinning at us. She helped us climb off of the cushion. The instant we got off two more people slammed into the cushion. I was about to warn them that there were people falling behind them, two more people fell ontop of them.
"Ichiya-sama…..you're heavy….." Eve cried out from underneath his leader.
"Take that back Eve-kun and face my parfum!"
"Get your big butt off of me Hibiki!"
"Shut up Ren!"
Tora and I sighed and pulled the Trimen off of the cushion. They four of them continued to argue until Tora hit them all over the head and demanded that they shut up.
"Is everyone ok?" I turned to see the leader standing with his lackeys nearby.
"No! You had us fall down a hole!" Rin shouted, outraged.
"What are you talking about? That was a slide." The leader said.
"No way that was a slide! My butt never slid down anything! I fell!" Rin growled, stalking towards the man. Shin grabbed Rin and kept her from mauling the poor man.
"Oi boss! Who are these guys?" A voice called out. I looked up and a startled gasp escaped me. This cavern stretched downward quite a ways down. There were several levels with caves on each one. I assumed these were the rooms for the members of the rebellion. There were lamps the shone brightly attached to various rooms. The person who had called out walked towards us. I heard someone gasp besides me, so I turned to see Ace staring at the mysterious person with his mouth open wide. I turned to see the mystery person, who was a girl, punch the leader in the shoulder playfully. Judging by the way the leader cringed in pain, the punch wasn't that soft or playful. The girl girl had short purple hair that hung down around her ears. Her skin was a rather pale ivory but that would be understandable seeing as the rebels spent most of time underground. The girl girl was decked out in tan cargo pants and a tank top. I watched as Ace and the mystery girl locked onto each other from across the room. I felt someone nudge me in the ribs and I turned to see Tora grinning like a madman. We had a twin physic moment and we both had identical grins on our faces. It had been a while since we got to play cupid.
"Oh this here is the Guardian of Quatro Cerberus."
Well this certainly just got rather interesting.
