Catching Fire, Stealing Love Chapter 3: Announcement, a glee fanfic

Okay so I'm going on holiday to France tomorrow morning for eight days so I won't be updating (my parents booked us a place with no WiFi (typical)) but I will probably be writing if I have spare time so there'll be a few chapters when I get back that wil be like only a day apart

Chapter 3: Announcement

"Hello citizens of America." President White drawls "I'm sending out this message because I've noticed the amount of crime on these streets. Murders, rapes, robbery, that sort of thing. So anyway, I've decided that there needs to be repercussions for all of this. Now, I was doing some research into our country's history and I found a little event that went down in Lima, Ohio some, five years ago." Santana gasps.

"No, he can't be talking about-"

"The McKinley High Hunger Games." The president continues and everyone in the room freezes "I know a lot of you won't know what that is and I can't be bothered to explain so I thought that I'd get someone, or say, a group on people to show you."

"No." Brittany whispers

"I'm going to be 'reaping' from the pool of existing victors." He announces, they all turn to look at Santana "In the future this country will be split into twelve different districts and a boy and a girl ages eleven to eighteen will be reaped from each but this year we're going to stick with the McKinley High way which is clubs. For example, there are seven living football player victors but only two living from the drama club which means the victors from the drama club are more likely to be reaped. Of course, there are some clubs which only have one victor but they will still be expected to attend the reaping with the other members of the club from their generation and any family." He chuckles "Goodbye, for now."

"Nonononono!" Alice shouts, pulling her phone out before bursting into tears and showing Santana the phone

"I'm the only one left." Santana whispers "I'm going back into the arena."

"No!" Brittany sobs

"What's going on?" Martha asks. Of course, they don't know

"Puck?" Santana pleads as she hugs onto Brittany and Alice

"We went to McKinley High at the time of the Hunger Games." Puck explains "It was a fight to the death between twenty-four pupils. There were forty-five and in total one-thousand and thirty-five deaths with one victor per year. Those victors are being pulled up again and 'reaped' which is basically picking a name out of the hat. In our senior year which was the forty-fifth and final Brittany got reaped and Santana volunteered to take her place. She won and she's the only living glee club victor."

"What does that mean?" Lucy asks

"It means I'm going to die." Santana tells her through tears

"You're not going to die" Quinn says, also crying

"There's twenty-four of us in there and only one comes out" Santana says "They all know I'm not weak this time, they all know what I can do. I don't stand a chance."

"We'll train you!" Puck tells her "You're going to make it!"

"It's a great fantasy but what am I supposed to say to my children?"

"You haven't told them about the games?" Tina asks

"And I don't plan to until they're much older."

"We'll figure it out" Brittany tells her and Santana rests a head on her shoulder

"Alice you still had a number to perform" Rachel says, trying to lighten the mood. Alice takes in a shaky breath, wiping her tears, before going up and putting a CD in the computer that controls the screen.

"This song just got a whole new meaning." The seventeen year old whispers into the microphone before signalling for the music to start. As the introduction plays a picture of her when she was younger with her parents, brother and sister is replaced with one of her with Santana, Brittany, Marcus and the twins.

The picture is replaced with a young Alice holding a tiny baby in her arms

A nine year old Alice and Santana are hugging in the next picture

Through the chorus pictures of Alice at different ages with both her families flash on the screen. The real Alice's eyes are glazing over already.

A picture of Alice sitting by a hospital bed crying while a small girl who they guess is Lizzie is hooked up to wires. A single tear falls down her face as she sings.

I never gave up then cause you said keep hope alive, And the champion gives one last try, yeah

Said I deserved the best in life, I should be winning, Gotta spread your wings and prepare to fly

A thirteen year old Santana and Brittany are holding a seven year old Alice high above them while she pretends to fly.

Well the shape of my heart don't lie, I'm determined with your faith in me, To make you see

A video of them running around the garden carrying her while she 'flies' plays.

A video of a four year old Alice playing with a ten year old Santana, Charlie and Lizzie in a back yard slowly morphs into one of her now, playing with Santana, Brittany, Marcus, Ella, Sky and Rosie. Alice starts sobbing as she sings but she refuses to stop

Nobody can tell me they were there for me, Before you came around, There was pain in every heartbeat, But eventually you built my resolve to be strong

A video clip appears on the screen of her at nine years old in a black dress, laying roses on her parent's graves

Now I'm hoping, if you hear this, You believe that all that I do is to make you proud

All the pictures from the video come back at once as Alice sings, empowered by the pain

The pictures fade out with the music as Alice breaks down on the stage. Santana and Brittany rush up and it's not long before all three of them are sobbing and hugging each other. They're allowed this; they're allowed to be weak before it all starts. No one can deny it anymore. The Hunger Games are back.

I know it's like really early on but I'd quite like to get an image so what would you guys like the arena to be like, like any specific things you want to see and any ways you want people to die. Well, not want them to die but you know what I mean.
