SUR-FREAKING-PRISE GUYS! two chapters in one day?! *audible gasp* I know...It's strange. But I'm strangely on a roll right now. (And mostly that may having something to do with my chemistry exam tomorrow and math homework that I'm currently ignoring BUT I DIGRESS)
I do not own OHSHC cause if I did Yuuki Kaida (who I do own) would totally exist in the actual story.
Please enjoy chapter 12!
Yuuki sighed as she listened to the girls excitedly crowd around Honey.
"Honey, what kind of chocolates do you want this year?" One of his clients asked happily.
"Mousse? Bonbons? Do you have a preference for colored ribbon?" Another asked just as eagerly.
The longhaired girl resisted sighing again, not wanting to draw attention to herself.
Today was Valentine's Day and she had strategically planned to sit with Honey today since she thought he would have the least amount of admires clamoring for his attention and hoping he would accept their chocolate.
How could she be so stupid as to forget that Honey was the one who adored sweets, even though he wasn't really reciprocating the girls feelings?
Honey thought about it seriously before smiling in a carefree manner. "I'd be happy with anything! I like chocolates, Usa-chan, and all you ladies." He responded cheerfully.
Yuuki looked to Haruhi, who was walking by with some tea. "Honey-senpai is in a really good mood today."
Haruhi nodded, a bit confused as she set down a cup for Yuuki. "He has a 24/7 unlimited supply of sweets, so I'm not sure why he's twice as cheerful all of a sudden…"
At this Tamaki cut into the conversation, having a bit of spare time between his guests. "Valentine's Day is the time when Honey-senpais love for chocolate goes through the roof." He explained cheerfully before turning to Haruhi. "By the way Haruhi, just for your information, I love any kind of chocolate! Especially if its homemade." He told her happily.
Haruhi stared at him blankly while Yuuki rolled her eyes. "So that was your motive for coming over here…" the longhaired girl sighed.
"Oh, your right, I have to prepare." Haruhi said, realizing how close Valentine's Day actually was. "One for my real dad." She finished, to Tamaki's sadness, causing him to mope in the corner of the room again.
The twins watched and shook their heads.
"The boss is such an idiot… Is Haruhi even the type of person who will consider Valentine's Day?" Hikaru said.
"We should be more surprised that she's aware of its existence." Kaoru responded.
Yuuki shrugged to their statements, it's not like it wasn't true.
Kaoru stared at Yuuki for a moment before grinning. "So, are you the type to give out chocolate?" He asked.
The longhaired girl's attention immediately snapped to the younger Hitachiin twin. "You bet, not." She said in a dismissive tone, waving her hand as if to shoo away the notion. "That's a lot of effort."
Haruhi nodded her agreement before seeing Honey on his god-only-knows-how many-he's-already-eaten slice of cake.
"You're still eating cake? You might end up with a cavity if you're not careful." She warned him as she set the teapot down beside him.
Honey happily held up a forkful of cake. "It's okay!" he assured, "I brush my teeth diligently!" with that, he put the cake into his mouth, only to freeze and hold his cheek.
Everyone froze and stared at the Lolita boy.
"Honey-senpai…? Surely you couldn't…" Yuuki started.
"It's nothin…" He said quietly, holding his cheek still.
At that, the twins tried to hold him still while Haruhi and Yuuki tried to look into his mouth.
"Let us see," Haruhi said while the twins continuously tried to keep him from squirming, but to not avail.
Hikaru looked up to see Mori walk into the clubroom, fresh from kendo practice. "Mori-senpai! Something is wrong with Honey-senpai!" he shouted at him from across the room.
Mori's face went from shock to concern, making him lurch forward towards Honey and grab his hand in his and force the blonde boys mouth open with his other hand.
Tamaki peeked over Mori's shoulder, hoping it wasn't. "So is it…a cavity?" he asked
Mori looked carefully. "Yeah." He looked over to the host club president. "Tamaki…"
"Ah, yes, I understand." Tamaki said quickly before turning to the other members of the host club and the guests present. "Until Honey-senpai gets over his cavity, I'm afraid he can't have sweets."
Honey sat up quickly, looking absolutely mortified.
"Therefore, we will be supportive and ask that you kindly refrain from eating snacks in the club room during this years Valentine's Day until this ordeal is over." The blonde president finished.
Mori picked up the unfinished portion of Honey's cake, to the Lolita boy's horror.
"No! It doesn't hurt! Really! It doesn't hurt at all!" Honey cried out as he tried to chase Mori for his cake.
Mori looked at Honey coolly. "It's forbidden." He said bluntly then turned away with the cake.
The next day, the twins, Yuuki, and Haruhi went towards the third year area to scope out the situation, only to see a devastated Honey holding a flyer for sweets, and Mori confiscating candy from Honey's bag.
"That was rough." Both twins said in unison, watching the whole ordeal in exasperation.
"I can't help but feel sorry for him." Haruhi agreed.
After a while they continued to walk down the hallway, back to the clubroom.
"You know I had no idea that Mori-senpai could be so brutal." Hikaru said, shaking his head. "I didn't think he would do anything to upset Honey-senpai."
Yuuki looked a bit confused as Hikaru spoke. "Won't it be difficult for you and Kaoru if there's no Valentine's Day this year though?"
Kaoru looked at Yuuki, exasperated. "Don't even joke about that. If we get chocolates and Honey-senpai doesn't. We may as well be digging our own graves."
Both twins shrugged. "Plus, honestly it's such a hassle making courteous replies to all of them." Hikaru started.
"It's almost to the point where we need to call additional cars to take all the chocolate home." Kaoru finished.
Yuuki smirked, "Ohhh, the struggles of popular boys." She spoke sarcastically.
Hikaru smirked. "What? Disappointed you can't give us some homemade chocolate?"
"That just sounds like wishful thinking on your part." Yuuki shot back. "Even if I did, it'd be some cheap *giri anyways."
The older twin grinned mischievously. "So you're saying you were planning on giving us Valentine's chocolate?"
Both Haruhi and Kaoru remained silent during the exchange, used to the constant banter between the two by now, but also hoping it would be one of the good days of banter that didn't end in an insult and argument.
The longhaired girl huffed and looked straight at Hikaru, "What I'm saying is, I have no plans for making any chocolate for anyone. But if you want giri so badly among your *honmei chocolates I guess I have no choice but to make some for everyone since, you so insist on being so pushy. Heck, you may not even get any when I give it out."
No, today didn't seem to be a good day of banter.
Hikaru's smirk disappeared, replaced by a look of annoyance. "What the hell? I was just teasing you. No need to bite my head off over some stupid chocolate."
"Whatever Hikaru, you're the one who keeps bringing up how I had no plans of giving anyone chocolate. You know, for someone who insists on being the same and keeping everyone the same, you sure didn't nag Haruhi when you knew she also wasn't giving chocolate to anyone." Yuuki snapped.
Hikaru was about to say more, but Yuuki just walked faster, ignoring him and walking straight past music room #3.
"What's her problem?" The older Hitachiin complained, looked at his twin and Haruhi, both of who wore the same expression of disappointment on their face. "What?"
Meanwhile, Yuuki walked past one of the courtyards, still irritated with Hikaru but cooling her head. "Okay, I did bite his head off…" She thought, thinking clearly now. "Yeah, that wasn't really fair of me…I'll apologize later when I see him."
She was so into her thoughts that she almost missed Mori with a girl she recognized to be one of his fans. The girl was petite, and obviously shy with how she blushed and fidgeted as she confessed that she couldn't hold her feelings back anymore, hoping that he would accept her love.
"I know about the host clubs restraint…but…I think if you'll at least receive my chocolates, I think I can try to forget about my feelings…" She managed to choke out from her quaking voice.
"I'm sorry…" Mori said quietly, his expression never changing.
The girl looked down, tears pooling in her eyes. "I should have known…" She spoke in a small shaky voice before turning and running off, crying into her hands as she did so.
Yuuki watched for a moment longer, and was about to walk away when her eyes met Mori's.
"Spying?" he asked, a hint of a small smile on his face.
Shocked, Yuuki shook her head quickly before walking over to him. "I didn't mean to… I was walking this way to cool my head." She explained, looking up at him.
Mori tilted his head slightly, which she understood to be him asking her to elaborate.
"I got into an argument with Hikaru again." The longhaired girl admitted. "I was in the wrong this time, I got annoyed at him for teasing me about not giving out giri chocolate." She sighed softly, looking down at the ground. "But I really don't understand why he insisted on nagging me about it and not once did he say anything about Haruhi."
Mori patted her head gently and ruffled her hair. "Good job." He praised for her recognizing her mistake. "But you aren't the only one who is wrong."
Yuuki looked up at him, smiling a little. "Thanks."
As they headed to the clubroom together, Yuuki debated on asking Mori about the girl, but ultimately deciding against it. She wasn't about to be the one bring that awkwardness around.
On the second day of Honey's probation, he began using tactics to try to get some sweets. His first tactic, which was attempting to act cute to Mori to convince him that his cavity was better; this ended in failure.
His second tactic, involved using a round about method on Yuuki as she was eating a sandwich with her tea.
"What are you drinking?" He asked, using his most adorable voice.
Yuuki took another sip before looking at Honey calmly. "Darjeeling tea." She replied, having a slight hint as to where this conversation was going.
"What are you eating?" He continued cheerfully.
"I was going to have a sandwich with it." The longhaired girl replied.
Honey put on his biggest, most adorable smile. "I think black tea goes best with something sweet." He spoke, tilting his head a little for max cuteness. "Don't you want any sweets?"
Yuuki finished off her tea and looked at him, smiling a bit. "I only like sweets on occasion." She told him calmly, quickly making him realize that he had most definitely chosen the wrong person for this tactic.
Later that day, Haruhi had come to her, explaining the Honey had come to him in tears, to which she caved and gave him some seaweed gum since it kind of looked like chocolate, which Yuuki laughed about for the rest of the day.
The next day, during club activities, the rest of the host club and Yuuki watched as Honey irritably paced around the room.
"He's gonna crack…" Tamaki said nervously.
Kaoru ducked his head down a little, watching cautiously. "Would someone please talk to him? He's scaring me…"
They all watched as Honey opened the snack room, which made Hikaru get up. "He's heading for the candy!"
Yuuki sighed softly, still feeling a bit awkward with Hikaru since she hadn't found a good moment to apologize yet.
"No need to worry," Kyouya said a little too cheerfully. "We emptied out all the sweets."
As Honey walked out of the snack cupboard, he wavered a bit before falling on his side to the floor, admitting defeat.
"Well, there he goes." Hikaru said softly
"Surrendering in three days… He held out long than I expected." Kyouya observed.
Tamaki slowly went over to Honey and gently shook him to make sure he was okay. In response, Honey angrily bit his hand.
Mori got up and calmly walked to the screaming Tamaki and angry Honey. "Mitsukuni." He called. "Don't take your anger out on other people. It's unbecoming."
Honey paused for a minute before angrily grabbing Mori by the arm and jacket and throwing him to the floor with a loud crash. "You idiot!" He cried out.
"A little bit isn't going to hurt me!" Honey yelled. "You're so mean! You're such a hardhead!"
As he yelled, tears began to spill over his cheeks. "I hate you Takashi!" With that, he cried as he ran out of the room.
"Honey-senpai wait!" Tamaki called out, chasing after him.
The twins slowly walked up to Mori, worried. "Hey, Mori-senpai..?" Hikaru spoke softly.
"That was harsh, are you gonna be alright?" Kaoru asked.
Mori looked deeply shocked and just stared at the ground as he sat up, staying where he was.
"Maybe he wouldn't hate you if you hadn't been so hard on him in the first place…" Hikaru suggested.
Yuuki paused for a moment before walking to stand beside the twins. "Mori-senpai…by any chance…are you trying to make Honey-senpai hate you on purpose?" She asked
Both twins shook their heads. "Why would he do that?" Hikaru asked.
"It makes no sense, that would be like the end of the world for Mori-senpai." Kaoru added.
Haruhi nodded in agreement, seeing where Yuuki was getting that idea. "Maybe because he's trying to punish himself."
"Mitsukuni has a cavity because of my carelessness. Twice I forgot to make him brush his teeth before his nap time." Mori spoke, a tinge of blame in his voice.
"Wait, no, that's not your responsibility." The twins spoke in unison.
Mori put a hand to his head, "If Mitsukuni has to get false teeth…"
"He's surprisingly pessimistic." Haruhi stated.
"I wouldn't be able to live with myself right now, if Mitsukuni hadn't thrown me to the ground." Mori continued, deeply upset.
Yuuki stared at Mori, realization hitting her. "Mori-senpai wanted some kind of punishment because he felt responsible…So he flat out refused a girl and made Honey-senpai hate him as a way to hurt himself." She explained.
"While that makes for a nice story and all…" Hikaru started, his tone colored with disappointment.
"It was just a little cavity. Can't get more pathetic than that." Kaoru finished, his tone the same as Hikaru's.
With that, the door to the clubroom opened a little, revealing a teary Honey who had heard everything.
Crying, Honey ran to Mori with a little push from Tamaki. "I'm so sorry Takashi! I'll never forget to brush my teeth again!" He cried out.
The twins looked to Tamaki who walked into the room, looking calm and a bit smug. "So, you figured it out too?"
"Yes, yes. Now then, everyone, please prepare for tomorrow's Valentine's Day!" Tamaki declared.
"What are you talking about? No one is going to give us chocolate this late." The twins spoke in unison, a bit annoyed.
Tamaki just smiled. "Didn't I tell you that I'm a French gentleman? We will have a different style of Valentine's this year gentlemen!"
Unsure of what to expect, everyone waited for the actual day of Valentine's to come around to see exactly what Tamaki meant.
On the actual Valentine's Day Yuuki was told to come at the same time as the other guests, and not a moment sooner. So, after an hour or two, since she refused to arrive with the other girls, she headed to music room #3.
When she opened the door, she saw as every host club member had their own personal bundles of red roses and were giving them out to each girl.
Yuuki looked around, surprised for a moment before Haruhi was in front of her, handing her a red rose. "Tamaki-senpai said this is the European style of Valentine's Day." She explained a bit sheepishly.
Yuuki smiled and held the rose. "Thanks Haruhi." She was truly grateful to have Haruhi as a friend.
"I think some of the others wanted to give you flowers too, so don't go okay?" The shorthaired girl told her.
Yuuki nodded in response before walking around, receiving a red rose from Tamaki, for being a good friend to his 'daughter', which she hesitantly accepted, then a red rose from Honey, just for being 'Yuu-chan', she accepted it readily because it was Honey-senpai. Kaoru located her soon after Honey was swept away by his clients, happily giving them flowers.
Kaoru gave Yuuki a red rose as well, teasingly saying how toys needed attention to. She lightly hit his arm at the joke and accepted the rose.
Without meaning to, she bumped into Mori's side.
"Oh, sorry Mori-senpai." She said, looking up to see he had given a flower to the girl he had rejected earlier. She looked very happy and was holding the rose close, her cheeks rosy.
Mori gently handed Yuuki a rose as well. "For you."
Yuuki smiled softly and took the rose from his hand. "Thank you senpai." She turned to put the roses in a safe place for the time being, namely in the snack room.
She managed to find a vase in one of the cupboards and she sets the flowers down gently inside it. It really wouldn't do to make them wilt now.
The creak of the door told her someone had also come into the room, so she turned to see a hesitant Hikaru holding a bundle of roses in front of her.
The awkwardness filled the room, and neither could look the other in the face.
"Look…" Yuuki said as she pulled out a small box from her bag and walked toward him. "I'm sorry for how I acted earlier…" She apologized. "I know you were just teasing, but I guess I didn't really appreciate that you were only teasing me."
Hikaru stared at the box for a moment. "What is it?" He asked, not really sure what to believe.
"Chocolate." She responded softly.
At this, Hikaru began to laugh, "Oh man, we're idiots."
"Look if you don't want the chocolate just say s-" Yuuki started, feeling like was making fun of her.
"I want it." Hikaru said with a smirk and took the chocolate from her hand. "No one else had time to give me chocolate, so this will be the only chocolate I'm accepting this year."
After a moment, his smirk slowly turned to a frown and he looked away, "I'm sorry too for being a jerk, Kaoru and Haruhi wouldn't let me hear the end of it when you ran off that day." He mumbled, loud enough for her to hear.
With that, he procured a red chrysanthemum from the bundle of roses he also had. Yuuki's eyes widened.
"Wait. What?"
Hikaru looked a bit embarrassed and looked away. "I asked Haruhi about your favorite flower, and she wouldn't tell me for the whole day okay?"
Now it was Yuuki's turn to laugh. She could just imagine Haruhi specifically telling Hikaru about it and constantly repeating that it had to be the red ones.
"Thank you Hikaru." She laughed and took the flower from him gratefully, her blue eyes meeting his amber ones. "This is quite out of character for you." She teased.
He shrugged, "Not really, don't let it go to your head and just take the damn thing out of my sight." The older twin grumbled. "Look, I have to go and give the rest of these out, and I'm pretty sure Haruhi is looking for you."
Without giving her a chance to respond, he turned and walked out, pocketing the chocolate he got from her.
Yuuki smiled and looked at the chrysanthemum in her hand, the petals cold but the stem a bit warm from Hikaru holding it for so long.
Her smile slowly turned to a frown the longer she stared at it, realization hitting her and hurting her. But it was okay for now, it was only a small ache.
"Why did it have to be you..?"
*Giri: literally "obligation" usually chocolate or candy given to family, friends, acquaintances, co-workers. Basically whoever you are not romantically connected to.
*Honmei: literally "true-feelings", usually chocolate or candy (which is significantly fancier than giri) that is given to a romantic partner or someone you want to be your romantic partner. (If you've got no idea by this point go read Ao Haru Ride, or Kimi ni Todoke)
