A/N: The titular song drives the true meaning of the story here as we now see converging plots. Enjoy.
18: December 31st: 9:40 P.M. Academy City Regional Airport:
140 Minutes Until 2015.
"We'd like to announce our second to last call for all passengers of flight HA210, nonstop to Oahu, you may now begin boarding at this time."
With every row called off and the passengers by our gate growing smaller, my gut feeling sank. Index who at the point I had not told yet what happened was still in excitement. But as the passengers boarded and the amount waiting shrank to a mere 11. She could tell something was off.
"Toma? She's not coming with us is she?"
I solemnly shook my head. My fault for even accepting that ticket from them. I knew it should have gone to Fukiyose.
"Indeed when they announce last call were getting on. She doesn't want anything to do with us."
Actually just me, we sat down and looked outside at the plane. Hard to believe well be in LA by this time tomorrow morning. The date lines going to make things interesting. 2 chances to ring in 2015.
"There's a part of me that just wants this to end. Why can't I get zapper out of my mind?"
Index at that point came up behind me. "It's because you love her."
"If this is love, then I'd rather cut of my unlucky hand just to be with her than to have it and cause her to hate me."
Without knowing it the attendant announced last call. I motioned Index to follow me and we got in line. As far as I'm concerned, this may be the last night I'm ever in this city.
9:50 P.M. 130 Minutes Until 2015.
"A little faster Kuroko?"
"Sissy you know I can't do this well in the cold."
Our speed was paramount as we could see ourselves one second running across rooftops and the next sliding down slanted ones.
"Can't you get airborne?"
"Not in this weather sissy, otherwise we won't make it."
"Well were still a mile out, can't you speed this up a bit."
"Oh you always do motivate me Sissy."
With that her speed became great and almost invisible.
(Plane)
"Toma, was there anything you wanted to listen to?"
Index handed me the Gekota tablet and I opened up Pandora. Luckily there was a default New Year's Eve Mix. The first song that popped up did make me smile as the music kicked on.
"Oh Better Days, that seems almost symbolic doesn't it."
In more ways than one.
"And You Asked me what I want this Year And I try to make this kind and clear
Just a chance that maybe we'll find better days."
(Airport) 9:55 P.M.
The airport came into our sights with only 5 minutes to spare. I thought we wouldn't end up running into other hiccups, until Kuroko brought up a good point.
"Sissy, we left our ID's back at the party we won't be able to get in."
"Oh yes we will, Jump us onto the terminal roof."
"Cause I don't need boxes wrapped in strings And designer love and empty things
Just a chance that maybe we'll find better days."
We landed and dashed madly for the gate in question.
"So take these words and sing out loud. 'Cause everyone is forgiven now."
(Plane) 9:56 P.M.
The attendant then woke me up as I fell asleep in my seat.
"Sir, can you turn off the tablet were about to take off."
"Oh right sorry."
"Cause tonight's the night the world begins again."
I handed Index the tablet while the emergency instructions were being given.
(Terminal) 9:58 P.M.
"Sissy what's the gate number?"
"The flight is HA210 Gate 15."
"I need some place simple where we could live. And something only you can give.
And that's faith and trust and peace while we're alive."
Kuroko pulled out her phone and noticed one stark contrast.
"Oh no, Sissy wrong terminal."
Without saying another word we ran along the rooftops.
(Plane) 10:00 P.M.
"Toma why aren't we taking off its 10:00 already."
"And the one poor child who saved this world And there's ten million more who probably could If we all just stopped and said a prayer for them."
"Easy Index flights get delayed sometimes."
As the fasten seatbelt sign came on, I helped Index with hers before getting mine.
"Won't be long now."
(HA Terminal) 10:03 P.M.
"So take these words and sing out loud 'Cause everyone is forgiven now."
"Sissy I see the plane." We found the gate in no time flat.
"Can you get me in there?"
The next time we looked however it began to pull away from the gate.
"Movie it Kuroko!"
At that point we knew it would be a miracle to reach that plane.
"Cause tonight's the night the world begins again."
(Plane) 10:06 P.M.
"Toma, I'm scared."
"Just hold my hand Index we'll be in the air soon."
Index grabbed my hand as I could feel the plane move into Taxiing position.
"I wish everyone was loved tonight."
(Runway) 10:07 P.M.
"Sissy security has spotted us."
Kuroko noticed alarms going off and mobile units moving into position. By that point I didn't care what would happen.
"Keep moving."
We ran and teleported fast and hard to get close to that plane. Within a minute we ended up in front of it.
"And somehow stop this endless fight."
As we ran full speed to the incoming plane Kuroko spotted an opening and took it.
"Hang on Sissy this is going to get crampy."
"Just a chance that maybe we'll find better days."
I felt myself almost vanish as we grabbed onto the back of the hulking jet within a millisecond of having our arms torn off. And without realizing it she got us into the plane.
"So take these words and sing out loud 'Cause everyone is forgiven now
'Cause tonight's the night the world begins again."
"Sissy Hold on were taking off." Kuroko warned me as we lied face down in mound of baggage. I knew what was happening as we could feel our ears popping.
"Yes tonight's the night the world begins again."
It took another 5 minutes before we leveled off and Kuroko looked at me.
"Well you made it."
"Yeah, I guess I did."
I looked at her and hugged her tight.
"So what's going to happen to us now Sissy?"
"Kuroko, what do you mean?"
"Well, by the time you get back from LA, you and Toma will likely be in a relationship. I just wanted you to know that, if he is to you what you are to me I'm perfectly ok with that."
I wiped the tear away from Kuroko's eye as I could tell it would freeze within seconds from being this high up in the cold.
"Kuroko Sharai, you've always been my best friend and no matter what happens with Toma Kamijo, you always be the most important person in my life in addition to him, my parents, Index, my sisters, Uiharu and Saten."
Kuroko was about to cry again and at that point I shushed her.
"I think it's your time to go."
Kuroko turned to me and led me up to the escape hatch to the flight attendant galley. My face turned and smiled knowing it would be a while before we meet again. She smiled warmly back at me.
"I love you Mikoto."
"I love you too Sissy."
With that she vanished and at that point I knew this would be happening.
"Okay, let's get this on the road."
My climb up to the hatch was nuts. What was even more nuts was the lack of security. As I came onto the plane and closed the door I could see attendants up and down the aisles full of active passengers.
"I can't join him just yet."
When I could tell an attendant was checking for the door that appeared to have been opened, I snuck into the bathroom.
"Well, now I have to wait."
My waiting would be an hour and luckily there was no activity for the bathroom. By the time I came out passengers all around were sleeping. That gave me the chance to go find my seat.
"Row 14, row 14 row 14." As I got close I could see the amount of light as down to a minimum until when I came upon them.
"Aw."
Index was pressed up against the window while Toma had his head in Index's lap. I took my seat and fastened my belt. His black hair and pale white shirt almost made me chuckle as I leaned back to get myself a good sleeping posistion.
"Can't wait for you to wake me up."
With that sleep would overtake me and as quoted from a story I read on a creative outlet site someone made called Diverging an Alligent Insurgency.
"My new reality is now a go."
A/N: Only 3 more left.
