"You ready Ash?" challenged Adam, a pokeball in his hand. Ash had arrived at a large forest that opened up to a large, grassy field near the route that lead to Vermillion City. Courtesy of Julia, who knew where the area was due for her and Adam spending a lot of time there, training for the Cerulean Gym.
While the two stood of on opposite sides of the field, Julia reading her book, but secretly keeping an eye on Misty as she played with Eevee through the endless fields pf grass that stretched for miles. The 4 year old girl was scared around her bug-type pokemon, especially Beedrill, but Julia expected such behavior from her. All the girls Julia knew, including her when she was younger, were scared of Bug-type pokemon due to their creepy crawly reputation, but in fact were gentle creatures that made great and loyal friends.
"Ready." Ash said, also holding a pokeball. He planned on using Tyrunt first. Even with all the raw power Tyrunt had at his disposal, he was very inexperienced. With all the mocked battles, that Ash set up for his team on occasion, showed that Tyrunt was more focused on charging head on, then thinking strategically and waiting for an opening.
"Tyrunt!"
"Ekans!", both trainers commanded, as both of their respective pokemon came out. Tyrunt eyed the area, before his eye landed on Ekans and he grunted with excitement.
Several, silent moments passed before Ash realized what happened. Adam was too flabbergasted to move. He just stood there, his eyes bulging and his mouth open. Several more seconds passed before Ash grew annoyed. Even more time passed before both of their pokemon to grow annoyed. Several minutes passed before Ash got impatient.
"Adam! Snap out of it or I'll it for you!"Ash said, in his famous dark voice, making even Tyrunt flinch in fear. Adam regained his composure and finally gave his first command.
"Ekans, use Bite!" Ekans darted towards Tyrunt, its fangs glowing with black energy.
"Tyrunt, use Hyper Voice!" Tyrunt began sucking in air, as Ekans continued darting towards him, until he released it all. The shock wave of sound sent flock of Pidgeys into the air, scared away from the loud roar. Ekans stopped dead in its tracks and began writhing around in pain, it eyes were shut as it tired to focus on attacking Tyrunt.
Despite the noise Adam, with his hands over his ears, he roared out his command that somehow Ash heard and miraculously Ekans heard. "Iron Tail!"
Ekans' tail glowed with a metallic glint before Ekans, with a pained expression, pushed forward and slammed its tail against Tyrunt's snout, effectively ceasing the attack and making a large bruise form on Tyrunt's face. Tyrunt staggered back a bit, his face contorted into a pained expression.
"Aim for his legs!" commanded Adam. Ekans swung its tail again, this time aiming for Tyrunt's legs. Ekans swiped its tail under Tyrunt's legs, making the young rock dragon fall flat on his chin.
"Finish him off Ekans!" Adam said, excitement in his voice. It was clear to Ash that he thought he was going to win this battle relatively easy. He would have to prove him wrong.
"Dragon Rage!" Ash said. Tyrunt, despite his pounding head and aching leg, launched a burst of blue energy from its mouth, that slammed and exploded into Ekans, sending the purple serpent a good couple of feet away from Tyrunt.
"Come on Tyrunt! Stand up! I know you can get up!" Ash encouraged, seeing his rock dragon try to stand up. His leg was heavily bruised and he was pained to put any weight on it.
'Damn, he wont be able to move with that, much less dodge any attacks. I'll have to finish this up quickly." Ash thought, seeing Ekans emerge from some tall grass. Its chest was bleeding and burned from the burst of draconian energy and a bruise was forming in the area.
"Boost Iron Tail with Quick Attack!" commanded Adam. Ekans sped towards them in a burst of speed, its tail encased with a metallic glow.
"Dragon Rage!" Ash said. Tyrunt formed the cluster of blue energy, but the attack was hindered by Tyrunt's injuries. Before they knew it Ekans was upon them and then its tail slammed on top of Tyrunt's mouth, closing his jaws on the incomplete Dragon-type attack. The ensuing explosion was contained in Tyrunt's strong mouth, who fell unconscious onto the ground, smoke coming from his mouth.
Ash sighed and returned his fallen pokemon to its poke-ball. Ash was to slow to think and relied on his most powerful attacks instead of actual tactics. He wouldn't make the same mistake.
"Mael!" Ash summoned his water dragon. His stoic form appeared in a flash of red light before he floated there, staring down at Ekans.
"Ice Beam!" Before Adam or his pokemon could react a stream of light blue energy struck Ekans and ice began encasing Ekans. In mere seconds, the large snake was completely encased in ice.
"Hydro Pump!"After a second of concentration Mael released a stream of enforced water that broke Ekans out of his ice prison and slammed it into the ground with so much force that it made a small crater where the snake landed. It was no surprise that Ekans was unconscious. That attack had bent trees with pure force alone.
Ekans was returned back into its poke-ball and a small bird with two red wings and a white underbelly appeared. Adam finally revealed his quickest pokemon, Spearow. Ash had seen the small bird during training and it out matched any pokemon Ash had seen.
"Spearow Quick Attack!" The small bird suddenly disappeared in a cloud of dust, leaving Mael there alone. Seconds later Mael was rammed in his side by something before he was rammed against his back, then his front, and his side again. It was just a barrage of unseeable attacks that left Mael with quite a few bruises on his body, and he seemed dazed with the blinding speed.
Ash grimaced at his uselessness. In a pokemon battle, the pokemon was the muscle and the trainer was the brain. Without the brain the body was just a flailing mess of limbs and muscle. Without the body the brain was a useless organ ripe for eating. They needed to work together to become a working, living thing.
"Surf around yourself!" Ash said with quick thinking. Mael's eye glowed blue and clean water began circling around him. Soon, Mael had a revolving sphere of water around him. Moments later Spearow was caught in the water shield and was hurled out of it, it wings too water logged to fly anymore.
The water shield collapsed revealing Mael with a angry glint in his eyes.
"Ice Beam!" A beam of light blue energy darted forward, effectively freezing Spearow on the spot. It was clear who had won. Even if Spearow managed to get out of its icy prison, its wings, already waterlogged, would be too numb to move, leaving Spearow to face one of Mael's stronger attacks.
Then, a beam of red energy breached through the ice and retrieved the bird, before being sucked away into a Poke-Ball.
Luxio finally made his way onto the field. It would be Adam's final, but strongest pokemon. He would beat Mael, in his current state, with just one hit.
"Return." Ash said, Mael becoming a stream of red data that was sucked back into a Poke-Ball.
"Smaug!" Ash said, releasing his starter onto the field. He gave a loud chirp and blew a stream of fire at Luxio in challenge. Luxio gave a roar before its body began sparking with electricity.
"Spark!" Adam commanded. Luxio's fur intensified with electricity that charred the surrounding grass, and he began charging at Smaug.
"Dodge!" Ash said, as Luixo bolted towards Smaug. His starter had no attacks that could stop Luxio's attack so Ash would have to resort to a more tactical approach.
"Blow fire onto his feet!" Ash said. Smaug's fire was getting much hotter and more powerful, a sign of him evolving soon.
A stream of fire came from Smaug's mouth. It was more powerful than Ember, but not as potent as Flamethrower.
The searing flames cascaded at Luxio's feet, burning the grass and his feet. Luxio jumped away from the fire, but not without injury. Its feet and ankles were bleeding and charred and Luxio jolted in pain when he landed on his feet.
"Thunder Shock!" yelled Adam. Ash could tell that Adam wasn't going to make his starter move, not with those burns on his feet.
Luxio was engulfed in more intense electricity, and a lone streak darted towards Smaug. Before Ash or his starter could react, Smaug was electrocuted with dozens of volts of electricity. The streak of lightning continued on for a couple of seconds before ending.
Even after being electrocuted, Smaug stood strong, some electricity sparking around his skin, staring defiantly at Luxio.
"Dragon Pulse!" Smaug launched an orb of green energy at Luxio, who was blasted back a couple of feet.
"Metal Claw!" While Luxio was still dazed from the attack, Smaug, who's enlarged claws slammed into Luxio, and created a large laceration and bruise where the claws met flesh.
"Dragon Pulse! Aim for its wound!" commanded Ash, excited to win the battle. Another pulse of energy crashed into its wound, making it much worse. Luxio stumbled back, it shoulder was horribly injured. Flesh was burnt and shredded and blood flowed freely from the wound.
Luxio finally slumped down, unconscious from the pain.
This chapter is a pain. To read and write. I was in so much pain to finish this chapter that I even forgot my little "Lordofire here" greeting. I'm going to do what most authors do and post a chapter monthily. Hopefully the following chapters will be way better.
