It was a lot more difficult to get out of bed with Leonard's arm draped across her, Penny realized, than she had expected. He had told her he had often managed to slip out of bed without waking her even when she had her head on his chest and arm resting on his stomach. Right now she had no idea how he managed that. On top of that, he looked so adorable and she was so comfortable that she didn't want to move.
Granted, she was the one who had snuggled up to him when they'd gone to bed. In retrospect it would have been better for her to just roll away from him when he'd started falling asleep, rather than shuffle so her back was practically glued to his chest and their legs were intertwined - but in her defense her feet were cold and she liked the closeness.
Still, if she didn't get up now then she'd fall asleep and her entire plan would be ruined. And if she didn't do it tonight she didn't think she could keep it in for a whole extra day when she didn't have to work.
Carefully, she began to slowly scoot herself away from him. When she extricated her legs from the tangle, he shifted slightly but stayed asleep. If he was even a little awake he'd mumble or peek an eye open. Sitting up, she stilled for a few moments before continuing her slow journey out of the bed.
The moment she stood up, she felt it. Holding the back of her hand over her mouth, she suppressed a groan and heave before padding as quietly and quickly as she could into the bathroom. Feeling both hot and cold and unpleasantly sweaty, she closed the door silently before flinging herself at the toilet and throwing up. Reaching her hand up, she grabbed her phone from where she'd purposefully left it above the toilet and turned on the torch so she could see properly before cleaning up the mess, wiping at her face with a flannel and finally flushing the toilet. At least this way if Leonard woke up she could simply tell him she had needed the bathroom. Washing her hands, she shut her phone torch back off before exiting the bathroom.
Fortunately, Leonard was still fast asleep. Grinning, she tip-toed into the living room for the actual part of her plan. She'd expected the throwing up, given that it had become a routine, but it usually happened three hours later.
Closing her bedroom door to, she turned her phone torch back on and placed it on her dining table. She took hold of Leonard's whiteboard that was leaning against her bike and moved it so it was leaning against the side table beside the couch. Frowning, she stepped back. What if those equations were really important? Sighing, she grabbed her phone and took a photo of the board before setting it back down again.
Grabbing the board eraser, Penny knelt down to reach the surface better. "Sorry if this is work-in-progress baby," she said as she began to rub off the current contents, "but so is this."
Once the board was empty, she took a deep breath before picking up the black marker.
"Here goes."
All Leonard could do was blink. Not only had his board moved, not only had everything been rubbed off it, but it had a new message that he was struggling to process so early in the morning.
if
Leonard Hofstadter + Penny Hofstadter = 2h
and
3 positive pregnancy tests = 3p
and
two weeks of no 69 = :(
and
celebration = c
what is the value of b in the following equation:
2h + :( + 3p = b + (c - :( + 2h)
(ps. when you add c to :( it becomes very :) ... so you better figure this out before you go to work, genius!)
His blinking turned into staring, which rested his eyes for a bit before they started to feel dry and sore and he rubbed them beneath his glasses. He needed coffee, strong coffee. Leonard moved on autopilot to turn on the machine and find a mug before pouring himself a very generous amount. He took a sip of the hot liquid, the burning feeling running down his throat and esophagus waking him up. He returned to the whiteboard, heart racing.
It wasn't that he didn't understand what Penny was implying. If he wasn't in so much shock, he would chuckle at her attempt at creating an equation. It was a pretty good equation, and he appreciated her sense of humor as well as her creative way of telling him what he thought he was telling her. It was just very, very... unexpected. At seven in the morning. Right in his face before he even had coffee.
"Worked it out yet, genius?" Penny asked, a note of entertainment hidden in her voice. Her robe was tied loosely at the front and her arms were folded, one brow raised in expectation.
"Uh..." Leonard turned to look at her, no more words forming in his mouth than they were in his mind. "Umm, yeah, I-I think so."
"So tell me," Penny paused, suddenly feeling incredibly nervous, "what the value of b is."
"It's..." Leonard turned back to the board, frantically searching for any information that would prove his sum wrong or right without any doubts. It was a simple equation but all he could do was panic that he had drawn the wrong conclusion or read it incorrectly. Finding nothing, he turned back to Penny. "B equals... baby."
"Correct." Penny's hands dropped to her sides.
"So... you're pregnant."
Nodding, Penny took a step toward him. "Very much so."
"This is..." Leonard looked at her in awe, before putting down his coffee mug and wrapping his arms around her waist. "This is amazing."
"I know." Penny said quietly, smiling at him. "It really is."
"This is so amazing!" Leonard kissed her softly, feeling her fingers curl into his hair as she released a soft hum of satisfaction. Clearly she had been waiting for this moment for a while. "I love you."
"I love you too." Penny grinned. "I think we should get started on that brackets part of the equation."
"Oh, absolutely."
A/N - I don't really remember anything about equations but I feel this is one Penny could get on board with! Anyway, I thought I'd update this today since we usually get new episodes on a Thursdays but they are on Mondays for now so just filling that BBT-shaped void today with a little update over here :)
