A/N - Yesterday a load of Lenny fans from Twitter returned to FanForum and we had an epic conversation about Leonard and Penny getting a dog. We got all specific and then this happened.
"It's open!" Penny called from her bed in response to the knocking on the door of 4B.
"I need you to open it!" Leonard called back, his voice muffled slightly by the door.
"Leonard, I am in bed!"
"It's the middle of the day!" Leonard raised a brow at the door. "Come on, please?"
"Ugh, fine." Penny grumbled in agitation, hauling herself out of bed. "First he doesn't put the toilet seat down, then he texts that he doesn't have his key, then he can't even open the freakin' door himself. Might as well leave it wide open next time." Huffing, Penny pulled the door open. "Happy now, you lazy- what?" Eyes growing wide all of a sudden, Penny looked up at Leonard. "Is that... that's a dog."
"You are correct. This is a dog." Leonard nodded with a grin, gently stroking the small puppy he was holding in his arms.
"Is... are... why?"
"Well, you've been kinda miserable lately and you always said you wanted a dog." Leonard said, kneeling down and scratching behind the dogs ears as he lowered the over-awed dog to his lap. "And you were crying at that documentary on shelter dogs and how you wanted a rescue dog. So... I rescued a dog."
"Oh my God." Penny's hand flew to her mouth, heart beating wildly as her eyes filled with tears. Crouching down slightly, she stared at Leonard like a child who had just been told they were going to Disneyland. "Are you serious?"
"I'm serious." Leonard grinned, picking up the small puppy and holding out to her. "We are the proud parents of a pit bull puppy named Thor."
"Oh my God!" Penny squealed, taking the puppy into her arms with shaky hands and cuddling it gently to her chest as she sat down on the floor properly. She held it up again, making a kissy face at it while she sniffled from the happy tears. "You are so gorgeous! And your name is Thor! Look at your iddy-biddy-pibble face!"
"He's a little shy and scared, but he's not shying away from you - which is a good sign!"
"Did you name him Thor or was he already Thor?" Penny asked, before turning her attention back to the puppy. "Of course my husband got a doggie named Thor! Of course he did! Yes, he did!"
"He was already called Thor." Leonard smiled fondly and the joy on Penny's face. "It was just meant to be." At that moment, Thor gave Penny's face a cautious lick. "Aww, look at that! He loves you!"
"Of course he does, he loves me and I love him!" Penny nuzzled Thor, giggling when he licked her nose. "And I love Leonard, too, yes I do, because he brought you into my life!" Suddenly, Penny blinked. She held Thor to her chest once more, her expression blank - a stark contract to just moments ago. "I have to tell you something."
"Okay?" Leonard raised a brow in curiosity at her sudden change in tone.
"We should let the puppy inside and close the door so he can run around and stuff. His tail is beginning to wag."
"Umm, is that what you were going to tell me?" Leonard stood, before holding out a hand to help Penny up.
"No, no..." Penny shook her head. They went into the apartment and she put the puppy down. Leonard quickly ran over to close her bedroom door; Thor could explore that space later. The couple watched fondly as Thor tentatively ran with tiny steps around the living room area, sniffing anything and everything. Penny looked up at Leonard; perhaps the mellowness of the puppy would make this easier. "I'm pregnant."
"You - you're pregnant?" Leonard repeated, his brows raising dangerously high above his glasses.
"Yes."
Thor stopped to look at his reflection in the television from atop the coffee table before pawing at a magazine until it fell off. Leonard stared at Penny in shock while she watched the puppy take a clumsy leap onto the couch.
"So... I guess we have three children now." Leonard said through a dry throat.
"Three?" Penny's eyes went wide once more. "Leonard, there is only one baby in here. I think."
"No, I mean... the baby baby, Thor, and Sheldon."
"Oh." Penny nodded slowly. "God, you're right." Slowly stepping toward him, she smiled shyly. "But we can totally handle those three, right?"
"Right." Leonard smiled, taking her into an embrace when she was close enough. "Congratulations, Penny."
"A puppy and a baby in one day... not a bad turnout, huh?" Penny grinned.
Their faces fell when an unpleasant smell reached their noses, and they saw Thor sitting guiltily beside a couch cushion - on which sat a small, but no less offensively odor-spreading, pile of dog poop.
"Yeah... they did say at the shelter that we should let the dog around the apartment on a lead first and then take it straight outside for a toilet trip. But I was kinda distracted." Leonard admitted, pulling out a lead from his jacket pocket.
"I'm gonna have a baby that poops. Thor's poop is your problem." Penny stepped away from Leonard, holding her hands up. "That's the rule!"
