Ash's eye slowly awoken, only to close them due to the harsh sun of the morning. He slowly rolled over, his body aching from the previous day's battle and the night's hard sleep. His bed for the night had been the hard and rough ground, and with the precaution of having the Abominations ambush them, he had kept his new armor on.

Gary, Violet, and Ritchie were still deep in slumber, covered in the cool shade of the tree line. Smaug, Tyrunt, and Dratini were sleeping by the rest of his compainion's. Mael had opted to stay in his poke-ball, due to his floating ability not letting him able to sleep properly.

Ash slowly got up, and heard his back crack and pop in several places. He began moving the rest of his body as well, to get rid of the tension in his bones. After his little stretch session, Ash reached over and grabbed his new sword.

The glistening three foot long blade, shined in his hands. It was too large to hold it by his side, so Ash had strapped his scabbard to his back, to hold his sword. Such a grand weapon. He had thought his Grandfather's original sword was amazing, but the reforged blade that he wielded now, was the true form of steel art.

Seeing that he had a some time to himself, Ash began rummaging through the provisions that Fort Ozone had supplied them. With the major attack from Team Rocket, the Abominations, and the winged gray beast, Fort Ozone had been in a frenzy. It was too busy to bother Lt. Surge, so the four trainers had decided to just get some supplies and just leave so they didn't bother Lt. Surge.

He pulled out a freeze dry bag of beef stew and a pot to cook it in. Ash approached the dying fire and kicked away the grey ash from the fire. He placed several fresh logs on the embers, and he blew gently against it.

Ash watched as the black wood, breathed to life with orange fire, only for it to die. He blew more and more until, the charred wood was set a flame. The fire slowly began eating away at the neatly, alined, fresh wood until, a healthy orange fire.

He tore open the freeze dry bag and released it into the pot, along with a container of water. Ash slowly stirred it, watching as the dusty materials mixed with the water. Seeing that the future meal was throughly mixed, Ash turned his attention to another aspect of his meal.

He rummaged through the supply bag again, and he pulled out a can of Oran Berry Juice. He pulled out another pot, smaller than the last one, and headed back to the fire. He opened the can and poured the light, clear blue liquid into the new pot. He let it simmered in the pot awhile before he pulled out a spare mug and poured the hot drink into his mug.

Ash blew gently on the mug, before he sipped the hot liquid. Whatever sleep remained with Ash was chased away as he swallowed the sweet, scalding juice. He sighed as he poured himself some more.

Apparently, the smell of his cooking was wakening the rest of his companions. The shifting of armor and weapons, signaled their awakening. Seeing that others would join him, Ash pulled out several more essential eating utensils and began spooning helpings of stew for his companions.

For his pokemon, Ash pulled out several pieces of meat, and added some fresh berries to a dish and placed it to the side for his pokemon to eat.

Groggily, Gary and Violet made it to the fire, shortly followed by Ritchie. Ash handed them thier bowls of stew and mugs of Oran Juice, before he began cleaning up the pots, and putting dirt on the fire.

" If we leave soon, we could make it to Vermillion City by night fall." Gary said as he sipped up more of his stew, with noisy slurps.

"Good, I'm tired of sleeping on the ground." Violet said as she placed her empty bowl in the bag. Soon all of the newly wakened trainers had placed their empty dishes in the bag, and recalled all of their sleeping pokemon. Ash kept Smaug out, however, he had walked with Ash through most of his journey already, so why stop now?

After cleaning up the rest of their camp, the trainers were on the dirt path that lead to Vermillion. Nothing really happened. They just enjoyed the scenery; the fields of emerald grass, the ruby flowers, and the sapphire rivers that they came across.

By the time they made it to Vermillion, it was deep into the night and the stars were already twinkling in the night. It did little, however, to hide their surprise and awe.

Vermillion was massive. Its titanic wall stood tall and stretched as far as they could see. Large, gates of steel and wood, guarded their only path in, and even with the darkness they could see the outlines of guards, positioned high on the wall.

The hurriedly walked towards the gate, guided by Smaug's tail light, and beheld the great gates. Apparently the guards had seen them, probably because of Smaug's tail fire, and they opened the great gates and they revealed one of the most wealthy city of Kanto.

Vermillion was light. That was all Ash could say. Great lights shone everywhere. They lined the streets, all the houses, stores, and the massive port that, even from such a great distance, shone brightly.

Luckily enough, a Pokemon Center was right next to the wall and the tired trainers headed to the red and white building. The inside was the same as any other one they had been in, but it was a welcomed sight to them. The Nurse Joy, looked up at them and smiled at their presence.

"Hello. I'm guessing you are here for a room?" she asked, politely.

"Yes, please." Violet said, gratefully.

"Here are the keys, dear. Enjoy your stay." Nurse Joy said, as she handed a small key to Violet. On the grip, there was a room number, which lead them to their room.

It was much larger than the normal rooms that Pokemon Centers usually give. It had four comfortable beds, several drawers, a closet, and a large water tank to hold water type pokemon.

Ash and his companions each went to their own bed and began unpacking their stuff. It was a silent agreement. Traveling together was key, especially after the battle of Fort Ozone. The Beast of the Air was still alive, though hunted by Zapdos, and its minions still roamed the plains of Vermillion.

His body still ached from the Giant's attacked, his arm hurting the most of all. The bruise was turning into a yellowish tint, and it still hurt to move, especially while weilding his sword.

But Ash's thoughts didn't seem to work anymore as he climbed into bed. Slowly sleep ate away at him before he let his eyes droop.
