Chapter 18: Rematch
And so I, in two, weeks learned how to see with my ears. At first it was pretty impossible. My first attempts ended with me, running into Cell, into the chief, then straight back into Cell, and then into a really low poll. Yeah it hurts. But without another choice, I forced myself through it. And so I learned Echolocation.
I had gotten used to wearing my goggles and had kept them on all the time.
And so on the night before the last night: me, Cell, the chief, and my pokemon celebrated a little for my victory, with cake, and a couple cups of coco-cola. Actually it was a double surprise, since the chief had a little something for Cell.
"Cell," said the Chief. "I've gotten something for you, for your promotion!"
"What is it?" asked Cell.
The chief took out a few pokeballs. "These were pokemon for the rangers to choose! Though they're left overs. New ones will be coming tomorrow!"
Cell grabbed them all and the Chief said," Hold it! Only one!"
"Oh," said Cell. He pressed the buttons on the 6 pokeballs. I could figure out the Pokemon by just hearing them land.
A gligar, a sableye, a duclops, a treeko, a duosion, and a Dunsparce came out.
"Dunsparce, seriously?" I asked. "I'm not like anti-dunsparce, but a dunsparce is really a non-battle Pokemon…"
The chief shrugged.
"What do you think?" asked Cell.
"Hmm… Not the dunsparce." I said. I looked at their auras. "What kind of Pokemon do you want?"
"Well I don't know." Said Cell honestly.
"Hmm… Well that narrows it down." I said. "Battle wise I'd take the Gligar or dusclops. The duosion's a bit slow. Treeko hits hard, but he has no range. Gligar on the other hand can take a lot of hits. He might even has immunity. Dusclops can take many hits, but he's also kinda slow, but he has a lot of advantages thanks to his status effect moves. Sableye like Dunsparce is pretty weak in combat."
With that said the Sableye through a will~o~wisp at my head that I dodged by ducking.
"Alright I was too harsh, but you get my point," I said.
"What do you think," asked Cell to the Pokemon.
The gligar landed on the chief's head. The dusclops seemed like it had better things to do, based on its aura. The duosion had fallen asleep. And everyone else just stopped paying attention. The only one that seemed to be paying attention was the Sableye who leaned against the wall.
With nothing else to do, I started to drink my coca-cola.
"I'll take the sableye," said Cell.
I spat the coca-cola back into my cup.
"Why!?" I gasped.
"I like the buddy." He said, picking him up and letting him sit on his shoulder.
"He has a tendency of biting things," warned the chief.
"I only bite because I 'm hungry!" said the sableye.
I went ahead and translated that for everyone.
"I'll take him, welcome new partner." Said Cell.
The chief and I exchanged confused glances. Or well if he could see my eyes, we would've.
"Well here goes nothing," said the Sableye. I translated that.
"For justice!" said Cell excitedly, raising a fist.
The sableye looked at Cell with a frown.
"FOR JUSTICE!" shouted the chief.
"For saving the world!" I said.
"For idiots." Muttered Sableye from Cell's shoulder. I went on and translated that.
"No need to be a kill joy." Said Cell.
"I don't kill it, I bite it," said Sableye. I translated that.
"Well at least he has a sense of humor," said Cell with a shrug. "Let's get along."
I went ahead and started translating as he spoke," Listen I'm only bound by my ball."
"Well then let's release him, for justice!" said Cell.
"For justice!" shouted the Chief," is what I would like to say, but his Pokeball's broke. And releasing him is not going to be easy. We're still trying to get our hands on that Pokeball breaker, but unfortunately we're so busy, we can't get it. So for the time being we had him up for Ranger adoption. You sure, you still want him?"
"Yeah, we'll find a place to break him out." Said Cell. "Though they're pretty rare, since criminals can use them to steal Pokemon, and they're expensive. And they're painful on the Pokemon. Maybe another HQ has a machine."
"Thanks, and make it quick." Said Sableye.
"Then it's decided!" said Chief. "Cheers!"
"Wait how do you guys not have something like that if this is HQ?" I asked Chief.
"The HQ gets moved around. Imagine this as a portable Capital. A country would be stronger if the capital was moved from place to place, to keep it away from enemies."
"So this place, moves?" I asked dumbfounded.
"No! All Ranger sites are like this. But instead the people are the HQ. Certain scientists and workers work in a group and that group is named as HQ. Back then it used to be in the major cities till it was crowded with Wizards. So HQ came here where it's quiet."
"Interesting strategy," I said.
"Yeah, cool, right?" said the chief.
***The next Day***
We all had a meeting in my room.
"Cell I want you to go see your family." Said the Chief.
"Yes sir, thank you sir. But what am I going to do with Yoshi?" asked Cell.
"Let him stay here." Said the Chief.
"I've been here for a while and the girl that told you about me. Did you hide her?" I asked worriedly.
"No, well we offered it but she refused." Said Cell.
"It might be good to let you out actually," said the Chief. "Though you had your echolocation training, it's probably best to get used to walking around in areas where you've never been before. Cell will you take him with you?"
"Well I don't think my family minds, but umm…What about you Yoshi?" asked Cell.
I saw his aura and wondered if he really wanted me to go. He seemed nervous.
"I'm okay with it, but you sure you okay?" I asked.
He shrugged and said," I don't really care."
"Then it's decided go with him!" said the chief. "I'll see you guys soon. Good luck!"
"Thank you!" said Cell.
"We'll be back before too long." I said. "I have faith in my Pokemon!"
"Oh yeah and Yoshi. Remember you're not a weapon, you're a person just like everyone else. You don't need to put yourself through messes that other people wouldn't want to. Alright?"
"What do you mean?" I asked confused, by his sudden change in tone.
"Just say alright and remember your ol' chief's wise words! Now go!" said Chief pointing towards the door.
"Wonder what that was about." I said to Cell.
Cell shrugged and said," It's wise words though. Well here on out I'll be taking care of you. So if anything is wrong tell me, in a way think of me as your big bro!"
He put his arm around my neck.
"A bro, huh." I said to myself with a smile.
"You're still here?" shouted N's voice from the distance.
"Oh N! Why are you still here?" I shouted back towards him. Cell released me from his grasp. His aura seemed shocked.
"N! The person that worked with Team Plasma?" said Cell.
"Well that was me." Said N, standing a yard away from me. "Nice goggles by the way."
"Thanks." I said.
"And you two know each other how?" asked Cell.
"Well our Pokemon traded blows." Said N.
I nodded and said," Don't worry he's not drilling for info."
"Just a wayward looking for the truth between trainer and Pokemon." Said N.
"Huh, and what do you want Mr.N?" asked Cell aggressively.
"A battle." Said N.
"I didn't even think about that. Can you fight with your terrible eyesight?" asked Cell.
"No clue." I said. "Actually I can, now that I think about it. I can still trace auras and stuff."
"So then c'mon have a battle! I want to see the limit of two of my new additions to the team, and what better person is there, than you my rival!" He patted my shoulder softly.
"Umm…Cell how about we have a battle somewhere close to your house. That way once this is over I'll go there."
"Sure, I guess. Just keep yourselves out of trouble." Said Cell.
"Sounds good." Said N with a small shrug.
"I'll come back here in a few minutes," said Cell. "Please try to finish it up by then. N I leave him in your care. Please make sure he's okay. Alright?"
"Got it," said N. "Besides I have a very powerful Pokemon in my fourth pocket. I hold onto at least one, for emergencies, not to be used in battle."
"Understood," I said softly.
We had ended up in a park. Specifically made for trainer's that wanted to train, or battle. There were worn out training staves, weights, and other training equipment around the white box drawn on the soft powder like texture of the ground.
"If one of your pokemon faint come find me, this is the address." Said Cell giving me a piece of paper with writing on it.
"Uh…" I said.
"Have N read it to you. And besides if he's telling a lie, you can tell right?" he asked.
"You have a point, alright thanks. I'll see you in a few." I said.
"Good luck," he said sticking up his thumb. He turned around and left.
"Whenever you're ready," I said.
"Well then I'll start with my newcomer." Said N. "Go Roselia!"
He released a Roselia onto the field.
"Roselia," I muttered, tacking off my goggles. My eyes burned from the light. I hadn't taken off the goggles for the past couple weeks due to training. My eyesight seemed to have gotten worse.
A poison type. Scyther and zorua can sweep. Eevee can pass down status effect. I touched the ground softly and felt the grains of dirt. Secret power's effect was probably more like paralysis again.
If I tried to sweep right from the get-go with Scyther I can probably get through Roselia and maybe drill straight through the next Pokemon. But that's the limit if he gets poisoned. Zorua, can't take Roselia on, if she has leech seed. Eevee puts down statuses but this it's not like I need to tenderize N's team from what I see. The best order right now seemed to be, Scyther, Eevee, then Zorua.
"What are you waiting for?" Asked N.
"Go Scyther!" I shouted. I let Scyther into the field.
"My first battle with you, sir! Please take care of me sir." Said Scyther. "Just in case you're wondering, I know Fury Cutter, Wing Attack, U-turn and finally substitute."
"You shouldn't have said that, I think N can also speak to Pokemon." I said.
"Yes I can," said N with a smile.
"Well then I'll start this match, Scyther Substitute!" I said. He stood still.
"Roselia switch out! Go Monferno!" said N. he replaced Roselia with a monferno.
"Scyther. Wing attack!" I said. Scyther ran forward.
"Monferno dodge it and attack with flame wheel!" shouted N. Scyther spun and tried to hit Monferno with his wings. Monferno stepped out of the way and dove at him in his flame wheel. Scyther looked at me for my next command.
"Keep going upward scyther!" I commanded.
"Too late," said N.
Monferno flew straight into him and slammed scyther into the ground. The monferno jumped away towards N.
"It's probably fair to warn you, I don't think I can take one of those directly." Moaned Scyther standing up. He was saved by his substitute.
"What's wrong?" asked N sarcastically.
Scyther can't possibly attack him if that Monferno can counter like that. Zorua's quick sucker punch won't do the job. Eevee's defense is okay, but a monferno is sure to know at least one fighting type move. If only I could see better.
"Scyther I'm going to depend on you for this one." I said. I put my goggles back on and concentrated. "Scyther run at him."
"Basic combat?" asked N. "Monferno flame wheel!"
"He's coming at me sir!" shouted Scyther worriedly.
I stayed quiet. I can see the two in my head, by their footsteps. All I needed were footsteps. I can hear the sound of dust being kicked away each step. The sounds got closer, combining. I knew their footstep pattern. I could hear everything.
"There, jump to the left and counter!" I shouted, excitedly.
Scyther moved on my command and smacked Monferno out of his flaming ball. He slid across the ground in the center of the battlefield.
"That's so lucky timing, but it won't happen again!" said N.
"Scyther back up, get closer to me." I said.
"Whatever you say sir, but I don't like this plan." Said Scyther.
He flew backwards towards me. When he landed he was no more than a yard away.
"Like this?" he asked.
"Close enough. Remember to stay close after an attack." I said.
He turned around and realized. "Sir! You're fighting blindly, literally! What are you doing?"
"Jump left." I said, hearing an incoming inferno ball. He did as he was told and the monferno desperately tried to stop himself before hitting me.
"I know what I'm doing." I said.
"Yes but sir, this is madness!" said Scyther.
"Fly upwards." I said. He dodged monferno, as he passed right beneath his feet. Nearly singing it. "Hit him with wing attack!"
Scyther flew forward and hit monferno with his wing from behind his flame wheel. Knocking him out of it again.
"This is pretty cool." Said Scyther.
"I don't even know if this is an advantage, but, Monferno switch out! Go Sneasel!"
I could hear sneasel jump in.
"Scyther U-turn!" Scyther started to run forward as N said," Go Sneasel!"
"Wha-what!?" said Sneasel jumping into Scyther's incoming attack. Scyther hit with his blade and jumped back towards me. I sent out Eevee this time.
"You again." Moaned Eevee.
"Last time I lost because your friend Zorua wore me out. This time we're even!" said Sneasel.
"Sorry Eevee, you're kind of the best candidate to beat him." I said.
"Fine!" said Eevee.
"Sneasel, Ice shard!" said N. The Sneadel ran at Eevee, but I couldn't tell what it was doing.
"Eevee, yawn!" I said.
Sneasel ran into Eevee with what sounded like shards of ice, and in return Eevee yawned in its face.
"What, the…" said Sneasel. He rubbed his eyes. "I'm getting tired."
"Return Sneasel." Said N. "Go Monferno!"
"Eevee Dig!" I said. Eevee dug underground as Monferno appeared.
"Monferno return! Go Roselia!" said N. He replaced Monferno with Roselia.
"Eevee tackled her from the ground but it didn't seem to do that much damage."
"Ouch!" said Eevee, jumping back to me.
"Poison point," I muttered.
I better act fast, cause this match is now time limited.
"Eevee secret power!" I said.
Eevee ran at Roselia and tackled her.
"Ouch!" said Eevee again.
"Well you can't get poisoned twice at least." I said with a shrug.
"Roselia toxic!" said N. Roselia was forming a ball of toxic in her hands.
Eevee looked back at me for supervision when she noticed. "Are you… Are you fighting blind?!"
"Yeah I am, and sidestep to the right," I said.
She went the other way and narrowly dodged the incoming ball of poison she couldn't see while looking at me.
"My right!" I said.
"Oh right, sorry." She said.
"Counter with secret power!" I said.
Eevee ran at Roselia and slammed into her again.
"This isn't doing you any good." Warned N. "Roselia Synthesis!"
Roselia stopped and stood still absorbing the warmth of the sun.
"Seriously." I muttered. Scyther could get her. "Eevee return!"
"Go Scyther!" I said, letting him jump in. "Scyther use Substitute."
Scyther stood still. And watched Roselia take in light.
"Scyther Fury Cutter!" I said.
Scyther flew at Roselia and slashed at her.
"Roselia return!" He swapped out Roselia for Sneasel.
"Ha, easy!" said Sneasel wide awake.
"Ice Shard!" said N.
"Scyther U-turn!" I said.
Scyther jumped back as the substitute took on the damage and was destroyed. In that one second he flew back and swung at Sneasel for a good hit. He flew back towards me where I threw out what the. How did I throw out Eevee?
"Wha- you gotta be kidding me," said Eevee, in Zorua's voice, obviously talking about my goggles.
"C'mon we can win this. You're the most important person in the match right now, all bets are off if you lose here!"
"Yeah, right," he argued sarcastically.
"Ice Shard!" shouted N.
"This guy again?" he asked.
"Zorua, just please use sucker punch, just please." I said, out of desperation.
"Only cause you begged me!" said Zorua flattered. Sneasel impaled him with shards of ice, as Zorua hit him with his paw.
Sneasel was flung back. He shook his head softly, he was about to go down.
"Zorua Pusruit!" I said.
"Go Roselia!" said N.
Zorua hit him on the way out most likely knocking him out.
"And I'm awesome."
"Roselia, sleeping powder!" said N.
"Return Zorua, go Eevee!" I said throwing Eevee into the powder.
"Wha-." Said Eevee, un-effected.
"Nice one." Said N.
"Eevee, Secret power!" I said focused on the battle at hand.
Eevee rammed Roselia again.
"Roselia, Giga drain!" said N. Something flew at Eevee from Roselia's hand.
"Eevee, try to push through and use secret power!" I said.
Eevee was strapped down with what seemed like Vines and was sapped of her life. As soon as the vines let go, Eevee ran at Roselia and tackled her down.
Eevee fell to the ground, knocked out. I put her back in her ball.
"Go Scyther!" I said.
"Let's get through this!" said Scyther.
"Scyther substitute!" I shouted.
"Go monferno!" said N, doing the obvious thing.
"Scyther, wing attack!" I said.
Monferno jumped in on the attack and took damage. Monferno was thrown back at N, who caught him mid-air with a ball and brought out Roselia.
"This is it!" I said. "Scyther Fury Cutter!"
"Roselia giga-drain!" said N.
The vines wrapped around Scyther's substitute and scyther slipped out of them. Then Scyther lunged at Roselia and rendered her knocked out.
"Good game," I said falling to my knees. "Close game."
"I will beat you soon!" said N.
"You were pretty close. Had it not been for Zorua, listening to me, I think I would've lost." I said.
"Yeah," agreed N.
{Setsuna Damius' note: It was actually quite a pain trying to figure out what Pokemon would go with Cell. I mean the fast ones are Cell's types. But Cell seemed more like a name for psychic types. And ontop of that Ranger's tend to have electric-types. But to all of them I had to say no. (Don't ask, I was like: naww…. Nahhhh…eh… (Sucks teeth)… Boring! NONE OF THESE GO WELL WITH CELL! I WANT SOMETHING WITH A MEGA BUT WHAT DO I DO?)
Then it clicked don't make him start from treeko, make him start from Grovyle. Easier to evolve and work with! Grovyle's getting his mega too! But then I thought about and thought, I already have a story with grovyle… I want something different! Something psychic. Then I looked at my favorite psychic type: Reuniclus. (Don't doubt his non-trick room strength. I took down A LOT of people with this guy in OU). In the end though I wanted a speed team and when X and Y came. The game became too much for him to handle.
Right now I can imagine Reuniclus singing Hatsune Miku's disappearance XD (Well actually that's not funny that's sad…) Well since he's so slow, I'd leave it with the disappearance of Gakupo, slow-mo.
Well anyway back to the topic. Reuniclus is too slow for a ranger. He was originally supposed to be Yoshi's you know just to pay some tribute? But then as I'm writing this it clicked! Sableye! He's a favorite of favorites. (I think I already said it.) He's like my favorite Pokemon, next to Eevee. Seriously, when my friend sent me a video that Sableye got a mega evolution: I was pacing around my house in happiness. (I couldn't run, people live below me XD). I spammed my friend with smiley faces… And rainbows (to show even more happiness)… And shields in homage to the sableye… Yeah I get wild sometimes… I even found a few smileys that were rainbow colored shields… Okay I should stop. Besides that, he was my childhood favorite since Emerald, my first Pokemon game. (By the way, if you see Sneasel typed wrong as Sneevil, just know that yeah I used to play Dragonfable and yeah I often get the two mixed up. Lol)
