Okay, this is where it starts to change. Yes, Sue is still up to her old tricks but I didn't like how the 2 part episode revolved around her obsession with Klaine as much as I think it should've been about the newbies coming together with Kitty to win the invitational. So this is my re-write of it.
The HurtLocker
"Noelle, are you sure about this?" asked Josh the next morning as he packed his suitcase at the Hudson-Hummel residence.
"Yes, go home Babe," said Noelle. "Rachel and Kurt need me still. My work here is not done. Jayce understands. It's not like my new album is on a deadline. If the New Directions have any shot of making it to sectionals, then they need TWO former Broadway stars to guide them. And one who is now a recording artist. Besides, YOU need to go finish your classes."
"Okay," said Josh. A horn blared from outside as he zipped his suitcase shut.
"That's the taxi," said Noelle. She followed him out of her old room and to the front door.
"Just a minute!" Josh called to the driver. He turned to Noelle.
"I'll call when I land, okay?" Josh asked as Noelle handed him his plane ticket.
"Okay, or text," said Noelle. Their lips gently met.
"Love you, I'll be back soon if you stay longer than intended," said Josh.
"Love you more," said Noelle. "Go, you'll miss the flight."
Josh nodded and kissed her again and Noelle waved as he put his suitcase in the trunk of the taxi and climbed in the backseat.
"Always hard to leave the Missus, isn't it?" asked the driver as Josh looked out the window.
"Yeah, but I'll be probably be back before she has the chance to come home to Nashville," said Josh. "She's determined to stay here and finish what we started."
"What's so important that she's staying here?" asked the driver. "My daughter is a big fan, I know exactly who you two are. I know she has a new album coming out."
Josh laughed.
"Well, it's a long story, and a long drive, where do I start?" asked Josh.
"An invitational? Like we did our sophomore year?" asked Noelle as Rachel and Kurt joined her at the kitchen table a short while later.
"Yeah, I think it would be a great opportunity for the three teams to showcase before we all compete at sectionals," Rachel said. "You know, give the other teams a sneak peek."
"Oh god, then am I REALLY glad I decided to stay longer!" said Noelle.
"I think the first thing we need to do is try and get that Spencer guy to join," said Kurt. "And convince Kitty to come back."
"You leave Kitty to me," said Noelle. "In fact, I'm going to call Harmony and see if she's busy this week and can come out here. Kitty and Harmony were best friends while they were here together. I think Kitty felt a bit betrayed that all of her friends left her to defend herself against Sue Sylvester. The others ran like cowards instead of trying to fight for the glee club."
"What about Spencer?" asked Rachel.
"I have an idea," said Noelle.
Monday rolled around and Noelle found herself back at McKinley with Rachel and Kurt. Noelle stood near the entrance to the school, waiting for Kitty to arrive. Soon, Kitty walked up the sidewalk only to see Noelle standing there with her arms crossed.
"Forget it Hudson, I am not coming back," said Kitty.
"Kitty, just hear me out okay?" Noelle said. "I talked to the superintendent and he gave me permission to steal you for the day. Come with me, there's something I want to show you."
Kitty sighed.
"Fine, but it's not going to persuade me, whatever it is," said Kitty.
Noelle smiled.
"Maybe, maybe not," said Noelle. "Come on."
Noelle led Kitty back to her car and Noelle forced Kitty to hand over the keys as they climbed in.
"Where are we going?" asked Kitty.
"You'll see soon enough," said Noelle.
After what felt like a long drive, Noelle pulled Kitty's car up in front of an old, rundown apartment complex.
"Where in the hell are we?" asked Kitty as Noelle parked the car.
"This is where Finn and I use to live," said Noelle. "Before we came to McKinley. Kitty, did I ever tell you the real story about my brothers and I?"
"No, no I don't think you ever told any of us newbies," said Kitty.
"I grew up for fourteen and a half years not knowing who my real father was," said Noelle. "Finn grew up knowing about his dad, because my mom was able to tell him all about Christopher and show him pictures. Do you know how that made me feel, not knowing who Burt was until I went to McKinley?"
"Pretty shitty, right?" asked Kitty.
"Totally shitty," said Noelle. "I felt second best to Finn. And then, one day, I woke up, and I couldn't walk. And my whole world turned upside down. Come on, I want to show you something inside."
"Are we even allowed in? This building looks like it should be condemned," said Kitty as they walked up the path.
"Actually, it's being torn down next week and the building is being rebuilt," said Noelle. "My old neighbors are all being put in hotels for the time while the new apartment building gets built."
Noelle led Kitty up several flights of stairs and they reached the top floor.
"No elevator," said Noelle. "Imagine me after I was in the wheelchair. Finn carried me up and down the stairs."
"That's horrible," said Kitty.
"That's why we also moved to the old house," said Noelle. "It was more room and easier access for me. Because of my disability, I was now the center of attention with Mom."
Noelle opened the door to the Hudsons' old apartment and led Kitty in.
"This room over here on the left was Finn's room," said Noelle. "This room was Mom's. And this one was mine."
Noelle pointed upward and Kitty could make out Noelle's faded name scratched in the frame of the door. Noelle opened the door and led Kitty over to the middle of the room.
"Part of the reason why I'm here today is because I did something eight years ago before we moved out and I told myself I was going to come back for it when I was able to get it myself," said Noelle as she pulled up a loose floorboard. "When I found out the building was being torn down, I figured I needed to come get it."
Noelle pulled out a large metal lockbox. On the top read, "PROPERTY OF NOELLE HUDSON. IF YOU FIND THIS BOX PLEASE LEAVE IT WHERE YOU FOUND IT. I WILL BE BACK FOR IT SOMEDAY."
"Is that a time capsule?" Kitty asked in disbelief.
"Sort of," said Noelle. "It's my HurtLocker. Or as Mark Ballas called his one CD, HurtLoveBox. I was twelve when he joined 'Dancing With The Stars' and danced with Sabrina. I was both a singer and a dancer then. A few months after Mark and Sabrina got eliminated, I was diagnosed with MS. I never thought I was going to dance again, Kitty. So I started keeping things in this lockbox that were most precious to me. Memories mostly. And reminders to never give up the fight."
Noelle opened up her lockbox with a key she pulled from her pocket and Kitty gasped at all of the momentos in the box.
"This is who I was before my MS showed up," said Noelle. "This is why I joined Glee Club."
"Noelle, these are amazing!" said Kitty as she shuffled through pages of song lyrics. "You wrote all of these?"
"Yup," said Noelle. "I knew someday, I would be on a stage performing in front of hundreds or even thousands or millions. My fight was to be able to walk and stand on my own two feet again. Look at me now. In long-term remission and being able to live my life to the fullest."
Kitty continued to sort through numerous ticket stubs, wristbands, and photos from 2006-2008, until she came across a photo of a young Finn and Noelle. She was shocked to see who was kneeling next to Noelle as Finn towered over them.
"Noelle, that's Mark!" said Kitty. "But I thought you hadn't met him until your first Nationals! At least that's what Harmony and Tina told me."
"No, Mark and I had met before we came to McKinley. In fact, this was at the DWTS tour in Columbus in 2008, right after I found out about the MS." Noelle smiled at the memory. "After that, Mark and I became social media penpals. Five months later, we moved and this box was buried. When I went to McKinley with Finn after the move and we got to Nationals, I knew Mark was one of the judges. I sent him a tweet and told him I was going to perform "Complicated" for him and Sabrina as a thank you for being the reason why I never gave up performing despite my MS. I told him not to tell anyone should we bump into each other before the competition."
There was a brief pause as Kitty took in everything.
"I know how much glee club means to you, Kitty," continued Noelle as she started putting things back in the lockbox. "You're a star. You were meant to be on that stage and sing and dance or whatever your heart desires. We need you Kitty. You know what you're doing. We need you to show Jane, Roderick, Mason and Madison what to do. I even have Sam trying to recruit Spencer. Help us get the glee club back where it belongs. On top at McKinley like it used to be."
"Okay, I'll do it," said Kitty with as smile.
"You will?" asked Noelle.
"You're right, why should I let Sue Sylvester boss me around and tell me I can't do what I love to do?" Kitty replied. "But if we're going to be the best of the best, we need to get around her with a secret weapon."
"What's that?" asked Noelle as she closed the box and locked it. Kitty picked up the box and carried it for Noelle.
"Sweet revenge," grinned Kitty evilly.
"Now THERE'S the Head Bitch in Charge I know and love!" cackled Noelle as they headed out of the apartment and down the flights of stairs. "What do you have in mind?"
"So Sue Sylvester's running the Invitational?" Rachel asked Noelle later as the New Directions gathered in the auditorium with Noelle, Rachel and Kitty.
"Yup, and I have a feeling this invitational is going to go on awhile," said Kitty. "I've been bribing Becky Jackson all afternoon for information."
"I thought she was at the University of Cincinatti?" Noelle asked confused.
"No, she's here, as part of her program curriculum," said Kitty. "She gets credit for being Sue's unofficial secretary as a lifeskill."
"Oh, like a work-study thing?" asked Rachel.
"Something like that," said Kitty.
"Where's Kurt? The Warblers and Vocal Adrenaline are already here," said Rachel as she saw Mr. Schue and the group waved to him.
"I don't see Blaine either," said Noelle. Just then, Coach Sylvester appeared on stage.
"Ladies, gentlemen, distinguished yet loathed alumni," started Coach Sylvester, earning a look of bewilderment from Noelle, Will, Rachel, and Sam, who had just sat down next to Kitty. "Welcome to this year's McKinley Show Choir Invitational. I am in charge, and these are my rules."
"Told you," Kitty muttered to Noelle and Rachel.
"Wait a minute, Sue, you can't judge an invitational!" said Mr. Schue as he stood up. "This is to get the show choirs prepared without having to be judged!"
"My school, my rules," said Sue. "And speaking of rules, I would like to outline the rules for this year's invitational. Rule number one: this year's theme is "old school. Rule number two: there are no more rules. Except that the New Directions have two hours to come up with twelve members as is the standard required members to be eligible to compete."
"Blaine is missing as is Kurt!" said Noelle. "You can't start until all advisors are here!"
"Oh well," shrugged Sue. "Vocal Adrenaline, you're up first!"
As Vocal Adrenaline headed to take their place on stage, Rachel turned to Noelle.
"Where are we going to get seven more members?" Rachel asked. "She's ruining the whole purpose of the invitational!"
"I have an idea," grinned Noelle. Before she could say what though, Vocal Adrenaline began their performance.
Clint:
We were at a party
His ear lobe fell in the deep
Someone reached in and grabbed it
It was a rock lobster
Clint with Vocal Adrenaline harmonizing:
Rock lobster
Rock lobster
Clint:
We were at the beach
Everybody had matching towels
Somebody went under a dock
And there they saw a rock
It wasn't a rock
It was a rock lobster
Clint and Vocal Adrenaline:
Rock lobster
Rock lobster
Vocal Adrenaline Girls:
Rock, rock lobster
Rock, rock lobster

Crack that whip
Give the past a slip
Step on a crack
Break your momma's back
When a problem comes along
You must whip it
Before the cream sets out too long
You must whip it (Vocal Adrenaline Girls: You must whip it)
When something's goin' wrong
You must whip it (Vocal Adrenaline Girls: You must whip it)
Clint and Vocal Adrenaline:
Now whip it
Into shape
Shape it up
Get straight
Go forward
Move ahead
Try to detect it
It's not too late
To whip it
Whip it good
Clint (with Vocal Adrenaline):
When a good time turns around
(You must whip it) (Vocal Adrenaline Girls: You must whip it)
You will never live it down
(Unless you whip it) (Vocal Adrenaline Girls: You must whip it)
No one gets away
(Until they whip it) (Vocal Adrenaline Girls: You must whip it)
Clint and Vocal Adrenaline:
I say whip it
Whip it good
I say whip it
Whip it good
Crack that whip (Vocal Adrenaline Girls: Whip)
Give the past a slip (Vocal Adrenaline Girls: Slip)
Step on a crack (Vocal Adrenaline Girls: Crack)
Break your momma's back (Vocal Adrenaline Girls: Back)
When a problem comes along
You must whip it (Vocal Adrenaline Girls: You must whip it)
Before the cream sets out too long
You must whip it (Vocal Adrenaline Girls: You must whip it)
When something's goin' wrong
You must whip it (Vocal Adrenaline Girls: You must whip it)

Move ahead
Try to detect it
It's not too late
To whip it
Into shape
Shape it up
Get straight
Go forward
Move ahead
Try to detect it
It's not too late
To whip it
Well, whip it good
I say whip it
Whip it good
I say whip it
Whip it good
As Vocal Adrenaline ended, the New Directions looked at the in horror, as did the Warblers. Mr. Schue looked over at his former students and saw the looks on their faces.
"Holy shit, we're in trouble," said Jane.
"No we're not," said Noelle. "To the choir room, stat!"
"And now, for our next performers, The Dalton Academy Warblers!" said Sue an hour later. The New Directions were still absent after retreating to the choir room and Sue smirked, thinking that she scared them off.
The Warblers:

The Warblers wasted no time and moved on right to their next song.
The Warblers (The Warblers):
You spin me right round, baby (You spin me)
Right round like a record, baby (You spin me)
Right round round round
Skylar:
If I, I get to know your name
Well I, could trace your private number, baby
All I know is that to me
You look like you're lots of fun
Open up your loving arms
I want some, want some
I've set my sights on you
And I have got to have my way now, baby
Skylar:
All I know is that to me
You look like you're having fun
Open up your loving arms
Watch out, here I come

You spin me right round, baby (You spin me)
Right round like a record, baby (You spin me)

Skylar:
I, I got to be your friend now, baby
And I, would like to move it just a little bit closer
All I know is that to me
You look like you're lots of fun
Open up your loving arms
Watch out, here I come
The Warblers (The Warblers):

Right round round round (I need your love)
You spin me right round, baby
Right round like a record, baby
Right round round round
Vocal Adrenaline and Will clapped unenthusiastically as Sue took to the stage.
"And now, for the New Directions!" said Sue. The curtain opened to reveal Jane, Mason, Madison, Roderick, Spencer, and Kitty sitting on stools. Mr. Schue, the Warblers, and Vocal Adrenaline along with Coach Sylvester gasped at what they saw next.
Sam, Noelle, and Rachel were standing behind them with Harmony, Heather, and Melissa.
"Wait a minute, what is this?!" cried Will.
"Loophole, Mr. Schue," said Noelle. "Coach Sylvester's rules stated that each glee club must have twelve members. She didn't say anything that the members had to be current students. Hit it boys!"
Before Sue Sylvester could stop the New Directions, she froze as the introduction to Roxette's "It Must've Been Love" started to play and Kitty and Spencer started to sing as the others backed them up.
Kitty and Spencer:
It must have been love
But it's over now
Lay a whisper on my pillow
Leave the winter on the ground
I wake up lonely, there's air of silence
In the bedroom and all around
Touch me now, I close my eyes
And dream away
Kitty and Spencer with New Directions:
It must have been love but it's over now
It must have been good but I lost it somehow
It must have been love but it's over now
From the moment we touched til the time had run out
Kitty with Spencer (New Directions):
Make-believing we're together
That I'm sheltered by your heart
But in-and-outside (In-and-outside)
I've turned to water
Like a teardrop in your palm (In your palm)
And it's a hard winters day
I dream away
Oh, oh
Kitty and Spencer with New Directions (New Directions):
It must have been love (Must have been love)
But it's over now (But it's over now)
It's all that I wanted
Spencer with New Directions:
Now I'm living without (Kitty: Living without)
Kitty and Spencer with New Directions:
It must have been love but it's over now
Kitty with New Directions:
It's where the water flows (Spencer: It's where the water flows)
Kitty:
It's where the wind blows (Spencer: Whoa-oh)
Spencer with Kitty and New Directions:
Where the wind blows
Kitty:
Yeah, yeah
New Directions:
Where the wind blows (Kitty and Spencer: Blows)
Kitty with Spencer and New Directions (New Directions):
It must have been love (It must have been love)
But it's over now (But it's over now)
It must have been good but I lost it somehow
It must have been love (It must have been love)
But it's over now (But it's over now)
From the moment we touched til the time had run out
Kitty and Spencer:
Yeah
Kitty with Spencer and New Directions (Kitty with New Directions):
It must have been love (but it's over now)
It was all that I wanted now I'm living without
It must have been love but it's over now
Kitty with Spencer (New Directions):
It's where the water flows
It's where the wind blows (Where the wind blows)
It must have been love (Must have been love)
But it's over now
Oh-oh
It must have been love (Must have been love)
It must have been love (Must have been love)
Kitty and Spencer:
Must have been love
The Warblers and Vocal Adrenaline clapped as the song ended and the new one started. Out of the corner of her eye, Noelle saw Blaine and Kurt run into the auditorium looking flustered and dumbfounded.
Roderick:
That's all I wanted
Something special, something sacred in your eyes
For just one moment
To be bold and naked at your side
Sometimes I think that you'll never
Understand me
New Directions:
Understand me
Understand me
Understand me
Roderick:
Maybe this time is forever
Say it can be, woah
That's all you wanted
Something special, someone sacred in your life
Just for one moment
To be warm and naked at my side
Sometimes I think that you'll never
Understand me
New Directions:
Understand me
Understand me
Understand me
Roderick:
But something tells me together
We'd be happy, woah
New Directions (Roderick):
(Baby) I will be your father figure
(Oh, baby) Put your tiny hand in mine
(I'd love to) I will be your preacher teacher
(Be your daddy) Anything you have in mind
(It would make me) I will be your father figure
(Very happy) I have had enough of crime
(Please let me) I will be the one who loves you
Until the end of time (Til the end of time)
Roderick:
That's all I wanted
But sometimes love can be mistaken for a crime
That's all I wanted
Just to see my baby's blue eyed shine
This time I think that my lover
Understands me
New Directions:
Understand me
Understand me
Understand me
Roderick:
If we have faith in each other then we can be strong
New Directions (Roderick):
(Baby) I will be your father figure
Put your tiny hand in mine
(My baby) I will be your preacher teacher
Anything you have in mind
(Hee) I will be your father figure
I have had enough of crime
(Baby) I will be the one who loves you
Until the end of time (Til the end of time)
Roderick (with New Directions):
If you are the desert, I'll be the sea
If you ever hunger, hunger for me
(Whatever you ask for), that's what I'll be
New Directions:
That's what I'll be
That's what I'll be
Roderick (with New Directions):
So when you remember the ones who have lied
Who said that they cared but then laughed as you cried
Beautiful darling
Don't think of me
(Because all I ever) wanted
New Directions (and Roderick):
I will be your father figure
(Put your tiny hand in mine)
I will be your preacher teacher
(Anything you have in mind)
Will be your father figure
Roderick with New Directions:
And I have had enough of crime
So I will be the one who loves you
Until the end of time
New Directions (Roderick):
I will be your father (I will be your)
I will be your preacher (Father)
I will be your father (I will be your daddy)
Roderick (with New Directions)
(I will be the one who loves you)
Til the (end of time)
As the second song ended, Noelle looked at Sue, who was in tears. Noelle grinned. Her plan to bring down Sue Sylvester was working. And now it was time for the coup de grĂ¢ce. This song would melt Sue Sylvester into a puddle of goo as it was by her favorite band and the lead singer that she had named her daughter after.
Noelle: Don't know why
I'm surviving every lonely day
Rachel: When there's got to be
no chance for me
Jane: My life would end
Girls: and it doesn't matter how I cry
Kitty: My tears of love
are a waste of time
if I turn away
Girls with Sam and the New Directions boys: Am I strong enough to see it through
Go crazy is what I will do
If I can't have you
I don't want nobody baby
If I can't have you, oh oh oh oh
If I can't have you
I don't want nobody baby
If I can't have you, oh oh oh...
Madison: Can't let go
Girls: and it doesn't matter how I try
Kitty: I gave it all so easily
to you my love
Girls: To dreams that never will come true
Am I strong enough to see it through
Go crazy is what I will do
Noelle, Girls andSam and the New Directions boys:
If I can't have you
I don't want nobody baby
If I can't have you, oh oh oh oh
If I can't have you
I don't want nobody baby
If I can't have you, oh oh oh...
If I can't have you
I don't want nobody baby
If I can't have you, oh oh oh oh
If I can't have you
I don't want nobody baby
If I can't have you, oh oh oh...
If I can't have you
I don't want nobody baby
If I can't have you, oh oh oh oh
If I can't have you
I don't want nobody baby
If I can't have you, oh oh oh...
If I can't have you!
As the New Directions ended, Vocal Adrenaline and the Warblers clapped dumbfoundedly as Noelle and Rachel raced over to Kurt and Blaine.
"Where have you two been?! You miss Vocal Adrenaline and the Warblers!" hissed Noelle. "I'm lucky that Harmony, Melissa and Heather were able to get here on such short notice to help us!"
"It's a long story, another time," said Kurt as the Warblers and Vocal Adrenaline joined them on stage for the results.
"Okay, in third place, is Vocal Adrenaline!" said Coach Sylvester. She handed them some weird trophy.
"Second Place, the Dalton Academy Warblers!" Sue continued, handing them some weird bowling ball shaped trophy.
"And the winners, in which I don't know how they did it because they were sitting on stools, singing soppy music, and enlisting their alumni because of a loophole in the rules, the McKinley High New Directions!"
"This is kind of garbage," said Spencer a short while later. "That's not even a real trophy."
"It's a start," said Rachel as she put the trophy in the case. "From small things, big things one day come."
Just then, Kitty interrupted.
"Hold up, Rachel. I got this. Listen up, noobs." Kitty looked at the five newbies standing in front of her. "We just went up against the two best show choirs in the state. They were full of seniors who have been working together for years. They thought they were gonna come into our house and push us around. But now they all went home feeling like their willies are two inches shorter. Now, I expect to make fun of all of you at some point. Fat kid, gay boy, creepy incest twins, other girl. But I never want to hear any of you disparaging the things that we do as a team. Got it?"
"Um can I just say something?" asked Roderick. "I just wanted to say thank you to Mrs. Hudson and Mr. Hummel, and Noelle and them, for, you know, bringing us all together and helping us do so well up there. You guys are all really good teachers."
"Thank you," said Rachel. "As your teachers, we just want to say how proud of you guys we are. I mean, I never would've thought coming back here that I would step on a stage without disintegrating into a puddle, but thank you, guys, so much just for..." Rachel trailed off as she walked past the twins.
"I heard she tends to make everything about herself," Mason whispered to Madison
"Shh, if you're gonna say things like that to me, you need to use your psychic inside voice," replied Madison.
"It's just the beginning, guys," said Kurt,
"Got it?" Madison whispered to Mason.
"Everyone put your hand in," said Noelle.
"We're gonna lead you through an ancient Glee tradition," said Kurt. "All right, on three, give me an 'amazing'. Kitty, count us in."
"One, two, three!" said Kitty.
"AH-MAZING!" shouted everyone.
