6x08 A Wedding
"No, no, no, they go over there!" Kurt directed to Puck as he and Mike were moving haybales around a barn in Rural Indiana. "MADISON! MASON! The microphones go on the stage! This is no time to have a sing off!"
"Kurt, Artie is the wedding planner, not you!" snarked Noelle as she and Josh carried chairs into the barn. "For Christ's Sake, if you're gonna help, don't stand there and bark! Grab some chairs or go hang the lights!"
"You'd think it was HIS wedding he was setting up," muttered Josh as Kurt scoffed.
"I can't help it," said Kurt. "You know weddings are my thing!"
"Then let Artie do his job and go help Blaine with the lights," said Santana as she dragged in more chairs. "We've got forty-eight hours to get everything ready and you're making things worse by acting like General Patton!"
Noelle laughed loudly as Kurt turned bright red and stormed over to Blaine, who was helping Rachel string up lights.
"Oh everyone, this looks wonderful!" gushed Maribel Lopez as she and Whitney Pierce entered the barn.
"This looks fabulous, it makes me want to square dance!" said Whitney.
"No Mother, no," said Brittney, pointing her finger at her. "Remember the last time you tried to square dance? You fell and almost killed Lord Tubbington!"
In the corner, Lord and Lady Tubbington hissed at the mention of this and resumed their preparation for their cat friends that were attending.
"Okay Ladies, can we go over details please?" Santana asked the girls.
"Sure," said Noelle. "This lifting is a man's work anyways and some people need to be a bit more productive." Josh scowled at her as she shoved the chairs she was holding into his empty hands and joined the girls over by the baby grand piano that had been transported over from McKinley.
"Okay, have you two decided on an officiant yet?" asked Tina.
"No, we haven't found anyone yet who will agree to perform the marriage and I think that's the only thing holding us back," said Santana.
"Wait a minute, what about my dad?" asked Noelle. "He's a congressman, I'm pretty sure he's able to marry people!"
"Doesn't he have to be a judge or be ordained?" asked Rachel.
"I think it varies by state and since it's going to be here in Indiana, it's the Indiana laws that apply," said Quinn.
"We should ask Burt when he and Carole get here," said Harmony.
"Did someone say my name?"
The group turned to see the Hummels arrive with the Finchel and Puckerman Spawn in tow.
"Yes! Dad! Are you an ordained officiant by any chance?" asked Noelle.
"Yes, I had to take a certification when I was sworn into Congress," said Burt.
"Great! Problem solved! Dad, will you officiate the wedding for Brittney and Santana?" asked Noelle as he handed her Christina.
"I would be honored," said Burt with a smile. He took notice of the seating arrangements. "Rachel, why aren't Jesse, Ethan, and Ella at our table?"
"Oh, I, um, didn't want to upset you guys," said Rachel, looking down. "It's going to be crowded enough at the table as it is."
"Sweetheart, it's okay, we don't mind if he's at our table," said Carole, placing her hand over Rachel's. "We adore him and those kids. I told you once before that Finn wouldn't want you to be alone forever and would want you to date again."
"Yeah, we're okay with it, really," said Burt, nodding. Rachel took a deep breath and nodded, putting Jesse and the kids back at the Hudson-Hummel table.
"Okay," said Rachel with a smile.
A short while later, Rachel was sitting outside the barn, waiting for the others to finish up before they retreated to the hotel for the night.
"Rach?" came a voice. Rachel looked up to see Quinn walking towards her.
"Hey, is everyone done?" asked Rachel as she looked up at the sky.
"Just about," said Quinn, taking a seat next to her. Quinn looked at her best friend with worry. "Hey, you okay?"
"Yeah, just thinking about Finn," said Rachel, looking up at the sky. "See that star up there?"
"Which one?" asked Quinn.
"Right there, that bright one in Sagittarius," said Rachel. "That's Finn's star."
"Is that the star he gave you for Christmas the one year?" asked Quinn.
"Yeah, he picked Sagittarius because he was going to name it after me since I was born in December, but he named it after himself since to him I was already a star," said Rachel. Quinn smiled and wrapped an arm around her friend.
"He's happy for you, ya know," said Quinn. "I honestly think he sent Jesse back to you."
"So does Noelle," smiled Rachel. "Quinn, I haven't felt this happy since before Finn died, and I didn't think I was ever going to be happy again. Jesse and I have been talking, and he wants me and the kids to move in with him, Ethan and Ella. Maybe even go back to New York."
"I think you should, and maybe you could try Broadway again," said Quinn. Rachel shook her head negatively in response.
"No, I think I'm going to become a stay-at-home mom if I do that," said Rachel. "I did Broadway, it's not what I truly wanted in life."
"Have you talked to Jesse about it? What if he wants to be the stay-at-home parent and wants you to go back to school or back to Broadway?" Quinn was looking at Rachel with sympathy.
"No, not really," said Rachel. "I'm more worried that it's not going to work out between us and we end up staying friends."
"He loves you," said Quinn. "I know he does. And he will never let you forget Finn or not let you still love Finn."
"You think so?" Rachel asked.
"I know so," said Quinn.
"Have you had any contact with your dad?" Rachel asked.
"No," said Quinn, shaking her head. "Mom says he married the woman he had an affair with but I'm not entirely sure that's true. I don't think he'll ever apologize for what he did."
"Maybe when we get back to Lima, you should try to go see him," said Rachel. "Maybe even take Beth and Alex with you. If my dad melted at the sight of MY four kids, I think yours will do the same with Beth and Alex. What do you have to lose?"
"You're right," said Quinn. "I'll ask Puck what he thinks."
"Ask me what?" asked Puck as he and the others came out of the barn, ready to call it a night. Each of the kids were asleep in someone's arms.
"Rachel thinks we should take the kids over to my dad's after the wedding is over and we're back in Lima," said Quinn. "Let him see his grandkids and hope he'll melt at the sight of our perfect family." Puck frowned.
"After how he treated you, I'm not sure I want to face the guy," said Puck as he shifted a sleeping Alex in his arms.
"I miss my dad, Puck," Quinn whispered. Puck saw the sad look on her face and sighed.
"Alright, we'll give it a whirl," said Puck. "Let's head back to the hotel you guys, it's late."
"Agreed!" said Noelle. "I'm beat."
"At least Superintendent Harris was nice to give you guys the week off of school," said Tina to the newbies. "He understands."
"We invited him to the wedding to thank him for all he's done," said Brittney. "I hope he's not allergic to rainbows like my dentist is."
The group looked at Brittney in horror as Kurt and Blaine silently growled.
"Do you think this goes?" Blaine asked Kurt as they got ready for the wedding. Both of them were in their white groomsman tuxes, but Blaine was trying to switch out his black bowtie with a rainbow-colored one.
"Just stick to the uniformity, Blaine," said Kurt.
"I'm sorry for ever doubting us Kurt," said Blaine.
"Me too, Blaine," said Kurt. "You know, Finn's death made me appreciate life a bit more and I guess I was scared that we were too young to get married."
"Your sister, Josh, Puck and Quinn proved that wrong," said Blaine as he fixed Kurt's tie. As he stopped messing with it, he looked at Kurt.
"You think we'll be okay?" Blaine asked.
"Yeah, we're good," replied Kurt with a smile. Before Blaine could say something, there was a knock at the door.
"You two decent?" came Carole's voice.
"Yeah, come on in," said Blaine. The door opened to reveal Brittney, Santana, Carole, Burt, and the Lopezes.
"I thought it was bad luck to see the brides before the wedding," said Kurt as he raised an eyebrow.
"Well, I've been doing some thinking, and Santana and I talked it over, and we want you two to be as happy as we are," said Brittney. Kurt noticed that Carole and Burt were holding two garment bags.
"Wait, what?" Blaine asked.
"What Brittney is trying to say is that we want you two to have the wedding of your dreams, and that we want to share our wedding anniversary with you," said Santana. "She wants you two to get married."
"Please say yes and just spare the rest of us years of misery," said Burt. "Live life to the fullest. Finn taught us all that."
"Seriously?" asked Kurt, looking bewildered. Blaine looked at Kurt and shrugged his shoulders.
"Why not?" asked Blaine. "What do you say, Kurt, will you marry me? Again?"
Kurt just stood there, speechless.
The guests were all seated, and the members of the New Directions, young and old, were patiently waiting for the brides to walk down the aisle. Even Sugar Motta and Rory had shown up to the wedding together. It turned out that Rory got his U.S. Citizenship after he graduated from McKinley and the two were living somewhere in California. Artie and Mercedes were next to the piano, getting ready to sing.
Mercedes:
At last
My love has come along
My lonely days are over
And life is like a song
Yeah, yeah
As Mercedes started to sing and the brides came into view, the guests gasped. Brittney was being escorted by Kurt, and Santana was being escorted by Blaine. But that wasn't the shocker. Everyone expected Kurt and Blaine to be matching the groomsmen in their white suits, but instead, the two were wearing black tuxedos.
"Oh my god," said Sam to Will. "It's a double gay wedding."
"My husband's in the bathroom and he's missing the aisle thingy." Whitney said to Emma, who was sitting next to her holding Danny.
Artie:
Mmm, at last
The skies above are blue
My heart was wrapped up in clover
Mercedes:
Wrapped up in clover, baby
Artie:
The night I looked at you (Mercedes: Oooh)
Hey,
Mercedes:
Ohoo
I found a dream, (Artie: Oooh)
Artie and Mercedes:
That I could speak to
Mercedes:
A dream that I can call my own (Artie: Call my own)
Artie and Mercedes:
I found a thrill to press my cheek to
Mercedes:
A thrill that I (Artie: A thrill that I)
Artie and Mercedes:
Have never known
Mercedes:
Yeah, yeah, yeah (Artie: Oooh!)
Artie:
You smiled
Mercedes:
You smiled (Artie: Oh)
Artie and Mercedes:
And then the spell was cast
Mercedes:
Yes it was... (Artie: Yeah)
Artie and Mercedes:
And here we are in heaven
Mercedes:
Oooo,
For you are mine...
Artie:
For you are mine
Artie and Mercedes:
At Last (Artie: Oooh)
Mercedes:
Yes you are (Artie: Mmm)
You're mine (Artie: Uhh)
At last
You're mine
Artie and Mercedes:
At last, ooh
As the two couples approached the makeshift altar, Noelle was staring at her brother in bewilderment, her jaw agape and her arms out in front of her in confusion.
"What is going on?" hissed Noelle as Burt joined the wedding party.
"We're getting married too," said Blaine, to the gasps of everyone.
"You're joking!" Noelle replied. "What made you decide this?"
"Me," said Burt, placing a hand on his daughter's shoulder. "A little reminder that life is short and it needs to be lived to the fullest gave them the right nudge. So let's get this show on the road, right?"
"Okay," said Noelle, nodding as she took her spot back between Quinn and Rachel, who were still aghast.
"Uh, dearly beloved, that's how you're supposed to start these things, right?" asked Burt. "Uh, twice in my life I've been lucky enough to meet the love of my life. And both of those times, I've married that love. And I knew I was lucky to be able to do that. But I didn't know how lucky until I had to drive over the state line to come here to officiate the weddings of these two loving couples. And I thank you guys."
Everyone smiled as the two couples nodded.
"Santana, Britt? Blaine, Kurt? I want to thank you guys for being so brave," continued Burt. "And so honest. And for standing up here and showing all of us that love and marriage is so much bigger than we thought it could be. And also so much simpler."
Burt turned to the guests.
"Love and marriage is when two people say to one another I love you because I love you. And I know this is gonna be one heck of a ride. But I don't want to do it unless I can do it with you."
He motioned to the couples.
"And now, the vows, please," said Burt.
"My husband's in the bathroom and he's missing all the vows!" Whitney said.
"Blaine? I'm a man who's always lived in the shadows. And everyone who's come into my life has always tried to pull me out into the sun or push me back into the darkness," said Kurt to Blaine.
"I've been bullied, outed and misunderstood," said Santana to Brittney.
"I honestly thought that I would never find real love," said Blaine.
"The world seemed so scary and confusing," said Brittney. "It was just too fast. It made me feel dumb just because my brain worked differently."
"And then you came along and even if someone had told me that it wasn't gonna work out, and that at the end of all of our struggling and all of our work, it would just end in heartache," said Kurt.
"I would've said yes," said Blaine.
"A thousand times yes," said Santana.
"I would've suffered it all just for the tiny chance to be standing up here marrying you," said Brittney.
"I'm a work in progress."
"I am a work in progress."
"I'm a work in progress."
"I'm a work in progress."
"You don't ask me to come out of the shadows," said Kurt. "You help me move away anything that's blocking the sun. It's time for all of us to walk into the sunshine together. Forever."
"Is that something you want to do?" Kurt asked Blaine.
"I do," Blaine replied.
"I do," said Santana.
"I do," said Brittney.
"I do," said Kurt."
There was a brief pause as the two couples took out their rings and exchanged them before Burt spoke as everyone grinned. Noelle was sobbing as was Quinn and Rachel.
"And now by the power vested in me by the United States Congress, and the state of Indiana and under a God who for sure if he believes in love, then he fully endorses the loving marriages of these two wonderful couples, I now pronounce you wife and wife and husband and husband. You may kiss one another."
As the two couples kissed, Noelle and Rachel let out a big and loud "WHOOO!" as everyone cheered and clapped. Doves were released outside the barn and the two couples smiled as they hugged one another.
CLINK! CLINK! CLINK! CLINK!
The clinking of a glass brought the wedding party and guests out of their conversations as Pierce Pierce stood up.
"Hello, my name's Pierce Pierce. And I'm Brittany's father. And I was just told that I was expected to stand up and give a toaster. But, uh, I just called Target, and they're closed, so instead I'd just like to say a few words."
He walked over to the two couples.
"Brittany? I'm so happy that you and Santana finally found one another. You look absolutely stunning in that gown. And, um, honestly? I can speak on behalf of my wife you're the prettiest one here. And I don't just think you're the prettiest. I think you're the prettiest by a long shot. I mean, if you look at all the other girls here, there's really no contest."
The girls of the New Directions looked at him in horror as Whitney walked over to Pierce.
"I mean, some of them are just downright homely. You know what I'm talking about."
"You're-you're blowing it," said Whitney. "And you need to sit down. 'Cause nobody is uglier than you without your clothes on."
"Knock it off," hissed Pierce and Whitney turned to sit down. He turned to the guests. "I was just informed that no one's ugly and to knock it off! In closing, I just want everyone to be really careful of the candles. Because with all that dry wood and hay bales, this place could up like a blowtorch. And we'd all be dead in minutes. So salut."
There was clapping from the guests as Josh looked at Noelle in horror.
"What the hell kind of speech was that?" Noelle closed her eyes in horror and shook her head back in forth.
Santana stood up and spoke next.
"All right, everyone, so, uh, at this time, we would normally be serving dinner," started Santana, "but, um, before we do that, we have a gift for each and every one of you."
"So, in case you're basic and you don't know, OTP stands for "One True Pairing," Santana continued as hats with OTP on it were passed around. "And I've been lucky enough to find mine with Brittany. And Kurt and Blaine were lucky to find each other. And so in the spirit of everyone here finding their OTP, please join us on the dance floor. And let's get this party started!" The guests and wedding party cheered as they put on their hats and Artie started to sing.
Artie:
One, two, three, uh
My baby don't mess around
Because she loves me so
And this I know for sho'
Uh
But does she really wanna
But can't stand to see me
Walk out the door
Eh
Don't try to fight the feelin'
Cause the thought alone
Is killing me right now
Uh
Thank god for mom and dad
For sticking two together
Cause we don't know how
Uh
Jane and Madison with the Wedding Guests:
Hey ya, hey ya
Hey ya, hey ya
Hey ya, hey ya
Hey ya, hey ya
Artie (Jane and Madison):
You think you've got it
Oh, you think you've got it
But got it just don't get it til there's nothing at all (Ooh)
We get together
Oh, we get together
But separate's always better when there's feelings involved (Oww)
If what they say is ("Nothing is forever")
Then what makes, then what makes, then what makes
Then what makes (What makes)
What makes (What makes love the exception?)
So why, oh, why, oh
Why, oh, why, oh, why, oh
Are we so in denial when we know we're not happy here?
Y'all don't wanna hear me, you just wanna dance!
Jane and Madison with the Wedding Guests (Artie):

Artie:

Ladies:

Jane and Madison with the Wedding Guests (Artie):

Hey ya (Oh-oh)
Hey ya (Oh, oh, oh-oh)
Hey ya (Oh-oh)
Hey ya
The guests cheered and clapped as the song ended. Dinner was served and the guests wined and dined for what seemed like an eternity before Maribel, Carole, Whitney, and Blaine's mom Pam took to the stage.
"Come on, come on, come on!" Maribel said to the moms as they made their way to the stage. She turned to the guests. "This party's on fire!" The guests cheered and clapped.
"And we whipped up a little number for you.," said Pam. "We have some very special guests: The TroubleTones!"
The guests whooped and clapped as the music began and Brittney, Santana, Mercedes and Sugar got up to sing along.
"Oh dear god, Mom's singing," said Kurt in horror to Noelle, who just grinned.
"You haven't REALLY heard her sing Kurt," said Noelle. "Believe it or not, she used to be just like us. Why do you think Finn and I had a natural canny for singing? Come on, let's dance you guys!"
Maribel:
Tonight's the night we're gonna make it happen
Tonight we'll put all other things aside
Give in this time and show me some affection
We're going for those pleasures in the night
Whitney (with the Moms):
I want to (love you, feel you)
Wrap myself around you
I want to (squeeze you, please you)
I just can't get enough
Maribel and Whitney:
And if you move real slow
I'll let it go
Santana with the Moms and the Troubletones:
I'm so excited
(Santana: And I) just can't hide it
Santana:
I'm about to lose control and I think I like it
Santana with the Moms and the Troubletones:
I'm so excited
And I just can't hide it
And I know, I know, I know, I know, I know
I want you
The Troubletones (Maribel with the Moms):
I'm so excited (Do what you do to me)
I just can't hide it (You've got me burning up) (Mercedes: Yeah)
Maribel:
I'm about to lose control and I think I like it (Mercedes: I think I like it)
The Troubletones (Maribel with the Moms):
I'm so excited (I think you get to me) (Mercedes: Yeah, yeah)
I just can't hide it (I've got to give it up) (Mercedes: Oh woah, oh)
The Moms and the Troubletones:
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh
Maribel:
I know, I know, I want you, baby (Mercedes: I'm so excited)
Maribel with the Moms and the Troubletones:
Do what you do to me (Mercedes: Oh, woah, yeah)
You've got me burning up
And I know, I know, I know, I know, I know (Mercedes: Oww, oww)
I want you, I want you
The room burst into a roar of applause and cheers as the Troubletones and the moms curtsied. Noelle hurried up to the stage and took the microphone from Carole.
"Mom, Mrs. Anderson, Mrs. Lopez, Mrs. Pierce, that was insane," Noelle said in the microphone. "I think you scarred Kurt and Blaine for life." There was a roar of laughter from the occupants of the room as Noelle motioned for everyone to sit down and the brides, Mercedes, Sugar, and the four moms took their seats.
"Um, so as one of the maids of honor, I wanted to say a better speech than that ridiculous insanity we heard earlier," said Noelle. "First off, if you don't know who I am, my name is Noelle Hudson-Koontz, and I am Kurt's half-sister. I had another brother, a brother who should've been here today to see his step-brother get married to one of his best friends. My brother Finn."
Noelle looked around the room to see that her friends' faces had grown somber. Some of the guests were too, as they had realized who Noelle was talking about. Jesse was rubbing Rachel's back in a soothing comfort as the Finchel Spawn napped in their strollers.
"Finn passed away last year after a heroic act of bravery," said Noelle. "He left behind a wife and four small children. He also left behind a legacy. A tough one to follow that is. Finn was the quarterback, and our leader at McKinley. The New Directions wouldn't have become the New Directions it is today with out him and Rachel. Finn, Rachel, my husband Josh, and I were living in New York when Finn died. Finn saved my life. I'm sure you heard on the news and knew about the recent events and revelations in the case. Anyways, um, I wanted to sing something for Kurt, Blaine, Britt and Santana, but first, I would like to ask everyone to raise their glasses and toast Finn! Finn, we miss you and it's not fair that you're not here Big Brother. We love you and thank you for helping these four find their way back to each other. To Finn!"
"To Finn!" chorused everyone as they raised their glasses. Noelle handed her glass to Burt, who hugged her, followed by Carole and Rachel and then Noelle headed over to the piano as Sam and Josh joined her. She spoke again into the microphone.
"And now, to my brother, my new brother-in-law, and to my best friends, I ask that you please take the dance floor for your first dance as husbands and wives. This is for you."
Noelle started to play the piano as Sam played guitar and Josh played the drums.
Noelle: I set out on a narrow way many years ago
Hoping I would find true love along the broken road
But I got lost a time or two
Wiped my brow and kept pushing through
I couldn't see how every sign pointed straight to you
Noelle, Josh and Sam: Every long lost dream led me to where you are
Noelle (With Josh and Sam): Others who broke my heart they were (like northern stars)
Pointing me on my way (into your loving arms)
Noelle: This much I know is true
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you
Yes, it did.
Sam (With Noelle): I think about the years I spent (just passing through)
I'd like to have the time I lost and give it back to you
(But you just smile and take my hand)
You've been there you understand
Sam with Noelle and Josh: It's all part of a grander plan that is coming true
Every long lost dream led me to where you are
Noelle (with Sam and Josh)Others who broke my heart they were (like northern stars)
Pointing me on my way into your loving arms
Noelle: This much I know is true
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you
Noelle, Josh and Sam: Now I'm just rolling home
Noelle: Into my lover's arms
This much I know is true
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you
Noelle: That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you.
A couple days later, Quinn took a deep breath as she and Puck walked up the steps to the home of Russell Fabray with Beth and Alex.
"I don't know if I can do this," Quinn muttered.
"Relax babe," said Puck as he smoothed down his and Alex's ties. The four were dressed in their Sunday best, Quinn wanting to impress her father and his new wife. Quinn had called her dad and asked if they could come over for Sunday Brunch to talk. He agreed, saying that he had some things he'd been wanting to tell her for a few years but was afraid to. Quinn wondered if he was finally going to apologize. She was surprised he even answered the phone.
Puck rang the doorbell and the door opened a moment later, revealing Russell Fabray.
"Hi Daddy," said Quinn.
"Hi Quinnie, hello Noah, please come in," he said, motioning for them to enter. Puck and Quinn entered the house and Russell turned to Puck.
"Hello Sir, how are you?" Puck asked, shaking Russell's hand with his free one as he held Alex on his hip. Quinn was holding Beth's hand.
"I'm just fine, Noah," said Russell. "Well, are you going to introduce me to my grandchildren?"
"Of course," said Quinn. "The little boy in Puck's arms is Alexander Finn and this young lady, is the reason you kicked me out. This is your granddaughter Beth."
"Hi," said Beth shyly as she hid behind Quinn a bit. Russell knelt to Beth's level. He couldn't believe this was the little girl that Judy had told him about. He spent the last three years wondering why he had done what he did.
"Hello Beth, I'm your Grandpa Russ," said Russell. "You are beautiful, just like your mommy. She looks just like you Quinn."
"Yes, she does, but she has Puck's smile," said Quinn. "And obviously Alex is taking after Puck. They both ended up coming out with little mohawks to no chagrin."
"Why doesn't that surprise me," muttered Russell. Just then, a short, brown-haired woman came into the room. Puck assumed this had to be Wife Number Two.
"Ah, Toni, they're here," said Russell. "Quinn, Noah, this is my wife Toni. Toni, darling, this is my daughter Quinn and her husband Noah, and these two are my grandchildren, Beth and Alex."
"Hello," the three adults chorused to the other.
"Well, shall we eat?" Toni asked. "Brunch is served."
As the group headed for the dining room, Russell stopped Quinn for a minute.
"You've become a beautiful young woman, Quinnie," said Russell. "I'm so sorry for how I behaved. I should have been there for you. And Toni helped me see the errors of my ways. Can you forgive me for what I did? The kids are beautiful, and I am so sorry I wasn't at your wedding. You two have really grown-up."
"Of course I can," said Quinn with tears in her eyes as they hugged, crying. "I've missed you, Daddy. I've missed you a lot."
"I've missed you too, Princess," said Russell.
