"...I've never even talked to him except for that time he asked me for a pen in class and he turned so red I thought he would spontaneously combust. I mean, sure, I can be a little intimidating, but I didn't know I was that unpleasant," Molly rambled on to Amy. "Moll, I think you need to just go up to him. Grab him, and kiss him right on the mouth." Amy said, purposely trying to rile her friend up. Molly gaped at Amy. "Have you completely lost your freakin' mind? Why would I want to kiss Denver? He's... He's kissed way too many girls! And he's not even that cute! Okay, he's cute, but he doesn't even talk to me, let alone like me. I would never kiss him... But do you think I should? How do you think he'd respond? Not that I'm thinking about kissing Denver-," "Molly! Shut up!" Amy screeched, cutting her off. Molly's eyes widened, and she turned red. She'd been doing it again, talking about Denver Pendagraft.

"Ha-ha, I know that sometimes I get carried away, but... God, Amy, I like him," Molly sighed. "I know Moll, maybe you should talk to him? What's the worst that can happen?" Molly was about to respond when she caught sight of Jace Redfern walking confidently in their direction. "Don't look now, babe, but I think Jace Redfern is walking over here, and I'm pretty sure he's looking right at you." Amy's eyes grew wide, "what?!" She turned around swiftly and saw him, her eyes catching his. Amy's pulse sped up, a deep wrenching formed in her stomach at the sight of him.

What the heck? Amy thought.

She didn't even have a chance to control her thoughts before she heard his voice; deep, confident, and absolutely delicious. And it was directed right at her."Hey, it's Amy, right?" His smirk was confident, cocky even, but the truth was in his eyes. She saw them. Really saw them. They were wondrous, inquiring, and completely focused on her.

Wow, so this explains the reputation with all the girls. Lord, have mercy. Amy thought, but something didn't seem quite right about that. She felt a tugging at her soul, like the answer was a little more complex than that.

"Uh, yeah, it's Amy. Jace Redfern, right?" A genuine smile lit up his mouth, "Yeah, it's nice to meet you, Amy." She went in to shake his hand, "nice to meet-," their hands connected and fireworks went off.

"Amy felt her blood rushing through her veins, she heard it pump through her ears. Her face lit up red and she was immobilized. She couldn't help the feeling of complete wonder and exhilaration that seeped into her.

"Jace, it seemed, had a different reaction entirely. Oh, his heart sped up and his blood pounded through his body. He was experiencing the Big Bang, but instead of the earth forming and taking place around the sun, it was talking place around her. This girl with big eyes and soft looking hair. But he immediately ripped his hand away from hers, startling Amy.

"His face was crazed and ashen, his breathing ragged, "uh, are you two alright?" Molly chimed in, clearly weirded out by her best friend and Jace."Uh, hah, yeah. I think I'm great, actually." Amy replied, slipping her hair behind her ear, and smile appearing over her mouth. That smile meant something him, and that scared him. A lot. "Uh, I, yea-, how did-," he glanced around. People were starting to stare. Confused looks crossed their faces and Jace realized he was losing control of the situation. He forced his breath to calm down.

He felt the blood rush black to his cheeks. He let out a breathy laugh. "Yeah, of course I'm fine. Uh-," he had to say it, had to get her to go away, "- that punch you gave to Mark was pretty impressive, I heard. Maybe we can hang out sometime and see if you're just as rough in other ways." The expression on her face burned his spirit. Utter shock, confusion, hurt, and surprise. "Excuse me?" Amy whispered to him. "Oh, c'mon hun, nobody's that innocent. You know what I meant." He plastered a fake smile on his face and winked at her. Amy couldn't believe it. She didn't know why, but it seemed all wrong.

He wasn't supposed to say that. He was supposed to say...

What? What could you possibly have expected him to say to you? She didn't have an answer for herself, but anything would have been better.

"What the hell did you just say?" Molly yelled angrily. "You're a disgus-," Amy cut her off, again. "No, Moll, it's fine. Why should we be surprised? It's just who he is, and probably who he'll always be."

As far as comebacks went, it really wasn't too bad, but it hurt more than Jace was comfortable with. "What can I say, I saw those legs walking by and just had to come meet the girl they belonged to," he said with less charm and more spite than before. "Well, now that you have, you'll have to excuse us. As soon as I saw you I just knew I'd need to go find a bathroom to throw up my lunch.""Amy spat out, angrily. "A crowd had begun to form and there were chuckles from around them."No, baby, that's not nausea, that's a different kind of fire entirely. I believe they call it emdesire/em." Amy huffed in anger, narrowing her eyes. "You know, not everyone feels that way about you. Maybe if you could get over yourself you'd realize that." Jace let out a loud, booming laugh, "Amy, everyone does feel that way about me. Look at me, what other option do they have?"

She couldn't believe she had thought, even if for a second, he might be any other way than what everyone thought. She had to get out of there, people were looking and whispering and she hated him for it. And she hated him for what he said. She hated him for being so predictable, and she hated that he was right. For the first time in her life, Amy wanted someone. No, she wanted him.

"I'm done here. There's nothing else to say." Amy turned her back and started to walk away, Molly following closely by her side."Ahh, the view from the back is just as good. Don't worry, baby, you can't hate me forever. They never do!" Jace called after her. She turned around briefly and her eyes caught his. Their breath caught simultaneously. Eyes burning into the others. He was challenging her and making a public spectacle of it. His eyes flashed, waiting for her to respond. Amy smirked, completely contrary to how she was currently feeling, and gave him exactly what he wanted. "Watch me." Their eyes connected once more before she turned back around and walked away.

Jace watched her go. He hated himself for what he'd said to her, and then, he'd started to enjoy it. He liked her feisty side and how she gave just as well as she got. But it couldn't make up for the feeling of emptiness that had taken place in his gut. He didn't want to think about what had happened between them, mostly because he thought he might know the answer, and he wasn't ready for that.

"Uhm, what the hell was that?" Molly demanded of Amy. "Ugh, I really don't know and I really don't want to talk about it." Molly was about to respond, but Amy gave her a look, "please, Molly, just let it go." Molly huffed in resignation, "well fine, but I've never seen that side of you before." Molly perked up, "actually, it was kind of fun!" Amy bumped shoulders with Molly as they both chuckled slightly. "Well, if Jace Redfern doesn't leave me alone, I have a bad feeling it's only going to get worse from here." Molly's face lit up in part excitement and part amusement."I cannot wait!"

Denver made his way into environmental science, smirking at a group of girls as he walked by. They were cute, but they weren't her. They didn't have white-blond hair, they weren't quite so slight, and they didn't have those piercing violet eyes. She was arresting and he couldn't help it. She stole his breath away and made his heart ache. As he walked in class his gaze focused on the only seat available at a double seated table. He strode over and pulled the chair out, looking at his lab partner. Violet eyes met his; alert, wide, and beautiful.

It was him. Denver. He was staring right at her, his eyes fixed on hers. His were greenish-brown, and completely beautiful. "Uh, hi," Molly choked out. "Hey," Denver responded. A few seconds passed before his mouth turned up into a smirk. Not an arrogant smirk, but a friendly one. Molly smiled back. "Guess we're lab partners," he stated obviously. "I guess so," she agreed. All the while their smiles growing bigger and bigger.

Thanks guys!
