Chapter 38-The winter lion

"so why did you call me, head captain?" Kenta Itsuki stood in front of his head captain looking as bored as ever

"I need you to retrieve Toshiro for me" she leaned back in her chair as she said it, "only you can do it"

"fine I'll do it, I need some excitement" Kenta turned and headed for the door

"I wanted to do it" Izumi appeared next to Momo, "Ichigo would be there and you know how much I want to kill him"

"don't worry I don't think Kenta can kill Ichigo" She assured Izumi

Izumi headed towards the door, "wait" Momo stopped her, "I want you to follow Kenta and make sure he doesn't get to carried away"

"fine" Izumi shunpoed out of the room

District 1 west

The two captains, now in full uniform, walked through a dense forest, "so this is your plan" Ichigo said as he followed Hikaru, "find each of the captains what if they've captured all the captains"

Hikaru just continued forward without acknowledging Ichigo's question, "do you know if we're anywhere close to where we need to be?"

"we're here" they both stepped out of the forest and were faced with a village that was completely frozen solid, everything; the people, the plants, the houses, everything down to the last detail was covered in ice

"what happened here?" Ichigo asked as he was about to step over the line marked by where the frozen grass ended, Hikaru dragged him back and pointed to his right, Ichigo could see a group of frozen soul reapers that looked like they were charging in to battle

"if you go in without raising you spiritual pressure you'll be frozen solid like them" Hikaru said frankly as he raised his and stepped over the boundary with Ichigo in tow

"who could have done this?" Ichigo looked around as the two of them walked through the frozen town

"it's obvious" Hikaru said with zero emotion, "Toshiro Hitsugaya"

"Toshiro wouldn't kill all these people"

"it looks like the villagers were already dead when it froze" Hikaru kneeled down next to a frozen body, "soul reap…"

Both captains felt the same presence and spun round to face it, "so where is Toshiro Hitsugaya?" he asked as his captain's coat settled in place

"so who are you?" Hikaru asked, getting up from his kneeling position

"I am squad 5 Captain Kenta Itsuki" his expression didn't change at all as he said it

"that's funny because I'm squad 5's captain"

"so your my failure of a predecessor" Kenta drew his sword from his hip and Hikaru drew his from his back, "I bet you couldn't even cut me"

"you wanna bet?" the two stared each other down neither one moving an inch

"sure I need a few seconds of excitement"

"Ichigo go find Toshiro" Hikaru broke out in to a run towards Kenta, "bring it"

Hikaru jumped and brought his blade down on Kenta's head but it was blocked and Kenta kicked the captain back, "that all you got, I seriously overestimated you"

"no" Hikaru shunpoed behind Kenta and raised his sword, "you grossly underestimated me"

Kenta shunpo'ed out of the way before he could get cut, "ha you're so slow and weak, I doubt you could even break my skin"

Kenta blinked and in that split second Hikaru shunpo'ed in front of him and cut across his chest, shock was visible on Kenta's face for a second before he went back to his usual expression, "it seems I broke your skin" Hikaru thrust his sword at Kenta's face, Kenta ducked and shunpo'ed behind Hikaru to slash across his back but Hikaru blocked it and kicked Kenta on to the floor

"that is it" Kenta stood up and gripped his sword in both hands, "I didn't think I would use this on a weakling like you but now you die"

"what you gonna do?" Hikaru asked raising his guard

"understand, Odayakanaumi" he twirled his sword in both hands and it turned in to a polearm like weapon with a light blue wrap around the handle

"so what does that do?" Hikaru asked

"it increases the power of my attacks based upon how focused I am" Kenta took a stance and charged right at Hikaru

"good" Hikaru scrapped his swords together, "awaken and illuminate, Sozo no ochita kamigami"

Hikaru's swords turned in to metal gauntlets, "been a long time" Hikaru cracked his knuckles before grabbing the blade of Kenta's zanpakuto then his arm and flipping him over his own head and smashing him in to the ground head first, "how was that?" Hikaru asked as Kenta sunpo'ed away

"as long as I stay focused I can win" Kenta whispered to himself

"you think you can win" Hikaru looked Kenta right in the eyes, "your nothing but a badly made 2 bit impersonation of me, you never had a hope"

Kenta snapped. He just stood there staring at him as anger grew on his face, "my whole life people have put me down and every time my bitch of a mother told me to not care and forget about it but fuck that I'll kill him, I'll kill them all" Kenta thought before screaming, "I'LL KILL YOU, YOU BASTARD"

Kenta took a stance and raised his spiritual pressure, "BANKA…" Izumi appeared out of nowhere and grabbed Kenta's blade, "what the hell are you doing here?" he asked through gritted teeth

"the head captain wanted me stop you from going out of control" she told him, "now let's go"

"we'll finish this later" Kenta and Izumi both shunpo'ed back to the Seireitei

"no way" was all Hikaru could think to say

While Hikaru was fighting Kenta, Ichigo was running round the village looking for Toshiro, he found the young captain in one of the houses, slumped against a wall and dazed, "what happened to you?" Ichigo asked as he check to see if Toshiro was okay

"they killed her and it's all my fault" he mumbled

"what are you talking about?" Ichigo asked as he shook Toshiro out of his daze

"I came here to protect Granny but so many soul reapers came and killed everyone" Toshiro held his head in his hands as he started to cry

Flashback

Toshiro had moved back in with his grandmother after the Seireitei was taken over, it had been years since then and he had heard nothing from anyone else. Toshiro had gone in to the forest to pick some berries for his grandmother but when he got back he saw some of the houses burning and soul reapers killing everybody, he broke out in to a run towards his house hoping she was okay. Toshiro burst through the door to find a soul reaper standing over his grandmother body, enraged Toshiro killed the soul reaper with his bare hands and fell to his knees crying over his granny's dead body, "hey found someone else" he heard a soul reaper behind him

"he's just some brat let's kill him" he felt his anger increase with every second and the ice growing around him began to encase the whole village and everyone in it at the time.

End flashback

"Toshiro we need to get out of here" Ichigo helped him up and they gathered his zanpakuto and other thing's he would need before they both walked out the door and found Hikaru

"you found him good, now let's get back to the cave"
