Chapter III

Stepping out of the school grounds, Tsubasa turned back to face it. A smile formed on her face as she stared at the large school before her. Finally, she was at the one place that he would never even think to search. Ryoutei Academy, a night school that was created for celebrities, politician's children, and those of money and high standing. She glanced down at the new uniform set she was given with a small smile. Even though she had enrolled into the school under an alias, she was getting a full scholarship so she didn't have to worry about finances, especially for such an expensive school.

"Starting tomorrow," she whispered to herself the smile on her face widening before she walked away.

...

Stepping into the bar, a small smile formed on the brunette's face as she saw the others getting ready for another night. She could see Ai and Kazuki arguing about the signature drink and wine for the night. By the amount they argued, it was sort of amazing that the two were in a relationship. Then again, they when they weren't arguing, they were almost inseparable. Similar to what her parents had before she ran away. Tsubasa's eyes hardened at the thought that ran through her mind.

All because that woman ran away. He had turned into a monster, locking her away since she was nine years old, forcing her into isolation and never allowing her to leave that room. The balcony was the only way she was able to breathe in the fresh air and see the world beyond the confines of the large yet constricting room. Maids came everyday to feed her and clean and the tutors he had hired came everyday for a few hours to make sure she was educated. That was it. The maids, the tutors, and him. No one else.

Wait. Tsubasa paused as she suddenly remembered the few times that norm had been broken. A smile formed on her face as she started to remember the few times she had been able to talk to someone who wasn't being paid by that man. A boy three years younger than her with shocking white hair and red eyes. The hours she had spent with him made her feel hopeful, that is, until he found out about the secret meetings and had practically banned outsiders, even his own guests from ever coming to the mansion again. Instead, he moved to another mansion far from the one she was located. To further torture her, the maids and tutors that attended to her were constantly replaced with others to decrease her contact and to decrease the chance of her forming a bond or friendship with them. Guards always stood by the door and underneath the balcony incase she tried to escape. She tried, oh she tried. Multiple times she tried to jump down the balcony but was always caught, the guards not even budging as she screamed and begged not to be taken back to the room. No matter how much she begged to be let out, to see other people, he would never allow her to leave, only beating her every time he came to visit her in the room and then turn into a sweet caring father for only a second before leaving for weeks.

Thankfully, he had placed a grand piano in the room. The piano is what saved her. Whenever she fell into despair, she would compose new pieces or just play the piano for hours and hours on end. Music was what kept her sane for the six years she was locked up in that room. There were days where she would just compose, not eating or sleeping for days until she collapsed. When he tried to confiscate all the music she had written along with the piano, she had screamed and thrown such a fit that even a beating was not enough. After days of no food or water, she remained firm against him, finally making him relent and allow the piano to be kept in the room.

All that suffering because of her mother. The woman who betrayed both her and the man that she called father. Six years of isolation and torture all because her mother had run away from the life she had to live with her lover.

"Tsubasa-chan!"

Said girl snapped out of her trance when she heard Ai call her name from behind the bar. She glanced at the clock to realize that the bar would open in a few minutes before she scrambled to the locker room to change. Once inside, she placed her bag in the locker and her eyes widened when she pulled out a dark blue cocktail dress from the hanger in her locker. She glanced out to see Ai grinning at her before she motioned for her to change. Inwardly she thanked the older woman before she quickly changed into the dress and even put on the black flats with little blue bows on the end. She glanced at the mirror and a frown marred her face as she noticed the low neckline of the sweetheart cut dress and how the dress accented her curves while leaving her back bare for the world to see.

"Tsubasa-chan, you're on in twenty!" Ai announced walking into the room before she paused at the sight of the sixteen year old in front of the mirror. She smiled at the sight of Tsubasa, braiding her hair to the side while leaving some strands out to create an elegant look. From her appearance and the way she held herself, no one would guess that the girl before her was only sixteen and a first year in high school. Ai let out a small gasp as she saw Tsubasa slowly turn, her dark green eyes locking onto her brown eyes.

"Ai-san?" she questioned, making final adjustments to the dress and her hair before she slowly put down her arms and spun around. "Is this alright?" to which the older woman nodded her head enthusiastically.

"Its perfect! This is why you let me choose your dresses! Its like this dress was made for you!" she squealed when a hand bonked her head. She let out a small yelp before whirling around to see Kazuki staring down at her while holding back a laugh. A frown marred her face but before she could come back with a reply, the male bartender looked up at Tsubasa.

"Doors open in a few minutes, it would be best if you got to the stage now."

Tsubasa nodded at his words before she glanced at the mirror once more. She let a small smile grace her face as she stared at the girl staring back. She was no longer that girl who was locked up in that room for six years. No, this time, she was free. Free from the torture she had to endure, the isolation, the loneliness, and most of all, him.

Turning back around, she smiled at the two bickering bartenders before she made her way to the stage where the piano sat. As she got closer to the grand piano, the smile on her face grew. Her fingers lingered over the wooden keys, something she had fallen in love with over the years before she adjusted the stood so that she could sit. In her head, a melody was already forming, a soft, clear melody that only made the smile on her face appear serene. Glancing around she could see the bar slowly but surely filling up for the night. Almost all of the people were dressed in formal wear, something she had forced herself to get used over the year. While on the outside, the bar seemed a bit, well, cheap or run-down, around 95% of the customers were of high class. Thus the pressure for a good live performance was important. Every night she was to play, she made a mental set list of songs in her head. Some classics, like Beethoven, Brahms, Bach, Mozart, Chopin, and sometimes, her own creations. Creations that she had never written down, but just came to her at the spur of the moment. Her music was like a never ending story, but instead of the use of words, hers was filled with crescendos, decrescendos, accelerandos, quarter notes, and eighth notes. A story that was created purely by her mind and fingers pressing on a set of keys that portrayed any emotions capable to the human mind.

Closing her eyes, she waited for the noise of the people inside to quiet down before the spotlight was focused on her. Once she felt the bright light illuminate the area around her, she slowly opened her eyes. Her eyes lingered on the keys before slowly, she placed her fingers onto the white wooden keys.

The sweet melody of Chopin's "Raindrops" filled the bar as everyone's eyes went from their peers to the stage. As the melody went on, Tsubasa inwardly sang the melody in her head. A crescendo in the next upcoming bars, the overall essence of the piece rang in her head as she played.

Standing from the bar counter, Ai couldn't help but smile as she watched Tsubasa play. Her eyes lingered to all of the people inside, all of their eyes on the girl playing the piano as if it were a part of her. She glanced up at Kazuki to see a serene look pass over his face as he silently listened to the piece Tsubasa was playing. She looked back to see Tsubasa smile with her dark green eyes brightening each passing second as she played on and on.

There was no doubt in her mind that she made the right choice when she had hired the young teenager a year ago on that rainy night.

...

The silence of the night was shattered by a small scream. From his place on the couch, Shu remained unmoving even when the whimpering of a female entered his ears. He slowly opened his eyes and glanced over to see his three of his brothers, the triplets, Ayato, Kanato, and Raito to be exact, staring at the sacrificial bride. He didn't even need to see their faces to see the hunger in their eyes. He glanced back to see his youngest brother, Subaru leaning against the wall, his red eyes narrowed at the scene before him. He could see the white-haired vampire's fists clenched against his body as he watched his brothers tormenting the girl.

Shu remained silent as he looked over at the only female in the mansion. Her black hair tumbled down her back in waves while her blue eyes were wide with horror. Her screams fell on deaf ears as his Raito licked his lips and knelt down next to the girl and lifted up her chin. From where he lay on the couch, Shu could see a thin stream of the girl's blood dripping down the two bite marks on her neck.

Raito smirked as he saw the horror in the girl's face become more prominent as he leaned forward and licked the falling blood off of her neck. He let out a moan at the taste. Her blood tasted better than the other brides from the past. Pulling back, his lime green eyes locked with horror-stricken blue before he glanced around at his brothers.

"I'm gonna take her for the night," a lecherous smile appeared on his face as he spoke and before his brothers, particularly Ayato, could respond, he grabbed the girl's arm and dragged her to his room, her screams and pleas falling on deaf ears.

Once the girl was gone from the room, Shu let out a small groan before he closed his eyes once more.

She was too loud. That sacrificial bride, he had given them.

...

It had been over six months since she was placed in that room. Well, placed was a nice way to put it, it was more like she was locked in, with guards outside the door. Her dark green eyes searched for anyone, anything to ease her loneliness before she looked down. There was no one, only her and the piano. She glanced back at the grand piano in the corner near the window, she could see the moonlight streaming through the windows creating a silver lighting to fall over the piano. Slowly, she walked over to the black and white wooden mass before sitting on the stool. Her fingers hovered over the keys as she glanced at the nearly full piece of paper on the stand.

Her first composition. A smile formed on her face as she started to press on the keys so that music filled the room. Her music, no one else's.

Too caught up in playing, she failed to notice the door opening before footsteps entered her ears. Snapping up, her eyes widened at the sight of a boy, a few years younger than her by his appearance, standing by the open door. His red eyes were wide as he stared at her, his white hair only accented by the darkness of the room.

The two children remained silent before Tsubasa slowly stood up and walked from the piano towards the door.

"Who are you?" she whispered, her voice soft and quiet as she slowly approached the boy. The boy flinched as she approached before he abruptly slammed the door as he ran out.

"No!" she cried but her voice fell on deaf ears as she heard the footsteps run away from the door. Her hand lingered on the doorknob but before she could even touch it, the door was forced open from the outside. Her eyes went up and widened in horror at the sight of him staring down at her, his brown eyes set in with anger before he grabbed her by her hair and shoved her into the room, away from the door.

"Father!" she cried as she ran to grab his arm only to have him slap her cheek. Her eyes widened at the stinging of her cheek before she looked up to see anger and hatred in his brown eyes on hers. Wordlessly, he closed the door, ignoring his daughter's pleas and cries.

...

Gasping, Tsubasa bolted up from the bed as she grasped her chest. The nightmares, no the memories of what had happened haunted her. She let out a small cry as she tried to stop her body from shaking. It was the past, her past. She had run away from it. From all of it. Yet, the nightmares still came, attacking her, making her relive those horrible moments.

"Why can't I be free?" she whispered to her self before she glanced over to the beside table and stared at the blue faberge egg on the stand. Wordlessly, she reached out for the egg and once it was in her hands, she slowly opened it and Pachelbel's Canon in D Major filled the room. She let out a gasp as she let the music calm her nerves before she quickly closed the egg, the music stopping as she did so.

Slowly, she made her way out of the bed towards the closet. Staring at the black uniform on the hanger, she drew a deep breath before exhaling.

Today was her first day at Ryoutei Academy.

...

To say school life was easy would be a lie. The minute she had been introduced, gossip and rumors surrounded her.

Who was she? Who were her parents? Why transfer in the middle of the semester? Why this, why that, countless questions were fired at her making her head spin.

When the other students figured out that she was a scholarship student, the snide remarks began. It began with them taunting her about her poor background and whether or not she had somehow forced her way into the school. The remarks got worse with each passing day.

Tsubasa inwardly gritted her teeth. Even thought she was at the school on a scholarship, her family, the family she had run away from, was a prominent family. Since she was six years old, etiquette and manners were pounded into her by her mother and many tutors.

Even though the teasing slowly increased, she chose to ignore them. She wanted a quiet school life, and the only way to have that was to show no response to the teasing and insults thrown her way.

Thankfully, she used the music room as her means of escape. Every time there was a break of some sort between classes, she would rush over to the music room and sit in front of the piano and just play. It was a way of relieving the stress piled up from her fellow classmates and the teachers who all pressured her.

It was a means of escape from everything in her life.

...

She was back. Shu slowly opened his eyes as he turned his head to see the figure in front of the piano, playing yet another piece he didn't recognize. Probably an original. His blue eyes remained locked on the figure before him. She was dressed in the uniform for the school, different from what he remembered when he first saw her. He remained silent as he watched again. For the past two weeks, she would appear without fail and play the piano for a few minutes to an hour, depending on how early she came before the bell rang signaling the beginning of class. She would always come during breaks to play, her fingers always moving against the piano in either a soft melody that gradually increased over time. He never saw her face but by the way her hair swayed with the music as her body moved along with the music, he could tell that she was enjoying herself. He could even hear her heartbeat from where he lay on the couch in the corner and he silently marveled at how her heartbeat could rise from playing the piano. Then again, music was everything to him as well, something he realized that she had as well. Beside her, she always placed a blue faberge egg with gold embellishments, something he also noticed after the first few days of her coming to the music room, his room in the school's to be exact. While no one dared to come to the room because they knew he would be here, she came, everyday without fail. By the way she carelessly came in every night, meant that she didn't even know that he was in there.

A smile formed on her face as she slowly put down her hands from the piano. Another piece, completed. She glanced over at the music box sitting on the bench next to her and she smiled. Picking it up, she traced the surface of the faberge egg before she carefully placed it back in her bag. Her head snapped up when she heard the bell ring, her eyes widening.

"I'm going to be late!" she bolted towards the door, but before she could exit, she stopped when she heard a voice cut through the silence.

"Who are you?" She froze when she heard the masculine voice coming from the other side of the room. Slowly, she turned around and her eyes widened when she noticed the figure laying on the couch, his head turned her way, his blue eyes never leaving hers. Dark green eyes locked with ocean blue and Tsubasa remained frozen when she saw the person laying on the couch's eyes narrow at her lack of response.

Shu paused when he saw a pair of wide dark green eyes staring at him. He had seen those eyes before, or a color that was very similar to that somewhere, but where? As he racked his brain for the answer, the girl remained silent before the warning bell ran snapping out of her stupor.

"I'm sorry, I didn't notice that anyone here," she started as she took a step back towards the door. Shu immediately noticed how her hand was on the door and he could see her glance from the door to the clock multiple times. He inwardly smirked at her struggle. She wanted to leave, she obviously didn't want to be late to class but because of manners or something like that, she was here, waiting for him to speak.

"Who are you?" he questioned once more, his eyes never leaving the human him. He saw her hesitate before she turned to the door. Her hand slid the door open a bit before she turned her head towards him.

"Tsubasa. My name is Aoki Tsubasa," and with that, she bolted out of the room with her school bang hanging on her shoulders. Shu watched her leave with a taciturn face before he closed his eyes and let sleep overcome him once more.

She was going to come back anyway, he might as well tell her later about his territory.
