Bre's POV [Next morning]

I brushed my hair, wincing slightly as I worked out some of the knots. I looked groggily into the mirror and just stared. When did I get so used to my appearance? At least it's a lot better than my old boring brown eye brown hair combo. Sighing deeply I tried not to think about my past. I might have found it boring but I did still miss it. I heard Cass start to stir and looked out into our room, my fingers quickly weaving my hair into a braid. Tying the end with a hair-tie I moved out of the room as she stumbled into the bathroom.

Her hair is getting pretty long for her... I thought she said she had been trimming it. Pulling on my pants I was still pleasantly surprised that my new uniform fit so well. The door to the bathroom opened back up and I could hear Cass brushing her teeth and getting ready. I put on my shirt just in time to hear someone knocking on out door. Walking over I opened it up to find Hidan standing outside.

"Um... Good morning Hidan. Can I help you with something?" My brow furrowed slightly behind my bangs, my voice a bit skeptical.

"Oh good, you're already dressed. Come on, grab the rest of your shit and let's go." He snapped up the collar of his cloak, finally bringing it to my attention that he was even wearing it.

"What are you talking about? I have to go to Leader's office, I don't have any training today."

"I already picked up your fucking mission." Hidan shoved a folder into my hands and I opened it up, scanning over the pages quickly. Well this is defiantly Pein's handwriting. Oh, I'm trailing him and Kakuzu! Why didn't he just say that?

"Alright." I walked over to my bed and finished getting dressed, holding my hat and the folder under my arm as I followed Hidan out of the base. As we walked out he snagged his scythe from next to where Kakuzu was waiting for us. "Sorry I made you wait, I wasn't aware that I was going to be trailing you two."

He gave a deep grunt and pushed himself off the wall, walking ahead of us. "Just make sure to keep up, and give me that folder. I don't want to have to worry about if you might lose it."

"Yes sir." I jogged up to him and handed him the folder before putting on my hat to block out the rain. "I only skimmed over the file so could you fill me in a bit more on what it is we're doing?"

He glanced over at me with his strange eyes, making me look away. "It's nothing too big. I just have some bounties to collect on and you're only tagging along. So make sure you don't get in the way."

"Ok, I understand." I mumbled slightly and slowed down my pace so I was walking behind him instead of beside him. Tugging on my bangs I glanced over as Hidan moved up beside me. "Is this what you guys usually do?"

"Not all the time. Our main goal is to get the tailed beasts, but I have sacrifices and Kakuzu has to make his fucking money." Hidan watched me from the corner of his eye as we walked, and to my surprise actually kept my pace instead of walking past me. We trailed behind Kakuzu for a while, long enough that the rain had actually died down to a gentle drizzle and you could see the sun poking through the clouds in some spots. I moved my hand to my stomach, trying rather unsuccessfully to silence the loud growls it made.

Kakuzu looked back at me with a stern gaze and stopped fairly suddenly, making me flinch slightly. He sighed in annoyance before looking around. "There's no one around so we might as well stop and eat. We'll take twenty minutes, that should give you enough time to eat and rest."

"Ok, thank you." He pulled a smallish bag from under his cloak and took out some bread, dried meat, and a couple apples, handing Hidan and I one thing of each. Hidan rolled his eyes as he took the food and walked over to a nearby tree to sit off of the wet ground. I looked around for a spot of my own and frowned at the lack of semi dry trees, before walking over to where he was sitting.

"What's the matter can't get enough of me?" I blushed slightly as he smirked up at me, making him chuckle.

"Oh don't get a bloated head, you just have the only dry place to sit."

"Wow, blunt. Didn't know you wanted to sit on my fucking lap." Hidan grinned up at me perversely as I became more flustered.+

"I wouldn't sit on your lap if it would save my life." I glared at him defiantly and walked past the tree, happy to find another that was fairly dry. Sitting down I began to pull pieces off of my bread and nibble at them. I should have asked Kakuzu if he had anything to drink. Sighing heavily I continued to eat, at the very least glad that my stomach was full even if my mouth was dry. After what felt like only five minutes Kakuzu got up and looked over at us.

"Alright, breaks over. Hurry up." I scurried to my feet and brushed crumbs of food off of my chest, having to half jog to catch back up to him as he continued through the thick woods. I was careful about my footing as the trees around us grew thicker and was quickly noticing that my throat was getting dryer every minute. I reached a hand up and wiped at my mouth, swallowing to try and fix it even just a little bit.

"Hey, you know I was only messing with you and shit right?" I jumped slightly as Hidan spoke, only then noticing that he was beside me.

"Oh... um, yeah. Sure I noticed." My voice was a little scratchy at this point and I hoped that Hidan didn't notice.

"You're a really shitty liar. So sorry, I was only teasing."

I blushed slightly and pulled my hair into my face, tugging gently on my bangs. "Yeah, it's alright."

"So are you thirsty or anything? I have some water."

"No, I'll be, uh, fine."

"Again, you are a shitty liar." Hidan thrust his arm out at me, almost hitting me in the chest, and making me flinch. Looking down I noticed a fairly decent sized water pouch and took it. "You can keep a hold of that. It's not like I'll fucking die if I get dehydrated."

I took a small sip, then a full gulp before awkwardly tying the pouch onto my hip. "Thank you." Tucking my hair behind my ear I turned and smiled at him. Hidan blinked a few times before looking away from me and bringing his outstretched hand up to brush some of his stray hairs back into place. This blocked the majority of my view of his face but I could swear he was growing a little pink in the cheeks.

We walked for a long time, mostly in silence, but with the occasional conversation or the more frequent bickering between Hidan and Kakuzu. For the most part their fighting was rather amusing but now and then it would get a little intense and I would start to feel the need to pull away from them, so at the very least if they fought I wouldn't have as high a chance to be hit. We stopped four more times as we walked, using two of those breaks to eat more of our food. I don't know exactly how far we walked but it must have been a very long way. It was no longer raining and the sky was actually almost clear, save for the occasional cloud here and there. The sun felt good on my skin for the few hours I had it, so good even that I had taken off my hat and cloak, holding them to my stomach as we walked.

I'm sure Cass misses the sun. She was always a bit more outdoorsy then me. I wonder what she's doing right now... I don't think there was anyone else back yet for her to trail. Maybe they had her work with Zetsu... No, that wouldn't make any sense. If anything I would send her along with Kisame or Sasori. Someone who would keep her focused and she would have a use for following. I sighed deeply and looked up at the sky, admiring the vastness. I don't think I've ever seen this many stars before. I wonder if they're the same ones from home...

I slowly snapped out of my thoughts as I noticed Kakuzu was talking. "-as good a place as any. We'll go there."

"Yeah, whatever. Might as well. Don't see why we can't ever stay as an inn or some shit. But no, a cave is so much fucking cheaper." Hidan grumbled under his breath as he continued to shuffle behind Kakuzu. A cave?

"Are there bears in this area?"

"Why are you afraid of them?" I shot a small glare at Hidan, making him chuckle deeply.

"No, I just don't want to be attacked by a bear in the middle of the night."

"Bears a very rare in this area. And if there is one I see no reason why we can't kill and eat it." I stared at Kakuzu for a good few seconds, a little surprised with him.

"I... yeah, I guess that makes sense."

"And even if there's not, I'm going to show you how to hunt anyway. You'll need to find most of your food on your own out here." I nodded slightly. Soon we were walking up a semi deep slope on the side of a cliff. To my left I could only see thick leaves and the occasional flutter of wings, and to my right was mossy wet rocks that I was afraid I would slip on at any second. It actually made me really glad that Hidan insisted on walking behind me. I didn't even care that he was probably only doing it to stare at my ass. I was so grateful when we reached the cave but it quickly went away when I realized there was no bear.

Great, now I'm going to have to go all the way back down... Never thought I'd be sad that there wasn't a bear. Maybe I'll get lucky and he won't want to hunt in the dark. Hidan walked around me and looked around the cave before brushing away small rocks in one of the flatter areas. I watched as he sat cross legged onto the ground and fell asleep almost instantly.

"Drop off most of your things here Bre, we're going to need to get some firewood." I held in my sigh and nodded at Kakuzu, very disappointed that I wasn't aloud to sleep too. I was finally noticing how tired I was and at this point even the ground was starting to look pretty comfortable. I followed Kakuzu out of the cave and back down into the forest. "Try to only get mostly dry wood. And none that are attached to trees, they won't burn as well."

"Okay." I walked around the woods, not that bothered by the dimming light, and gathered branches that might have been a little damp but none I would count as too wet. It wasn't like this was the first time I had gathered firewood. I used to do it all the time as I was growing up. It was much cheaper to just find your own then to go out and buy some. Just in case I grabbed some dry dead leaves and pine needles and put them into my pocket before heading back over to the cave where Kakuzu was waiting for me, inspecting some mushrooms. "Are you sure those are ok? They don't really look edible."

"I was thinking of feeding them to Hidan. That way if they're poisonous maybe I'll get lucky and he'll kill over. But if not then at least we'll have something to eat." Jesus christ. That's pretty cold. Even though I couldn't see most of his face I knew he was smirking and it caused me to shudder slightly. "Alright, let's go. You head up first." I nodded quickly and rushed past him as he picked up his half of the fire wood. Once we got up in the cave I started making a fairly nice ring out of rocks and putting my kindling in the center. "Have you made a fire before?"

"Yeah. I went camping a lot as a kid. But I always had a lighter or matches to start up the fire." As I started stacking my loose twigs into a little X shape I looked down to see Kakuzu slide over a box of matches. "Thanks." He nodded slightly and left me to making the fire as he did something else. Once I was satisfied that nothing was going to fall over I lit the fire, actually managing to get it lit on my third try. "Alright, that's done. What should I do with the rest of the branches?"

"Just leave them in a pile with mine." I nodded and quickly stacked them up next to his and looked over to see him roll out a small mat. "I know it's not much but I figured since you aren't used to sleeping on the ground this would make you less useless tomorrow."

A small smile spread across my face and I could tell it make him a little embarrassed. "Thank you Kakuzu, that's really kind."

"Yeah... it's nothing. Get to sleep. Hidan and I will keep watch." I nodded and moved over onto the mat. Glad for the small amout of comfort it added and the heat from the fire. Before long I was fast asleep.
