Bre's POV [ around 6am the next morning ]
Light shone on my face making my eyes sting. I could still feel heat from last nights fire and wondered if they had continued to add wood to it even after I had fallen asleep. Slowly I stirred, letting my body ache in protest. Sleeping on the ground had been such a good idea last night but now it was having it's effect. My back cracked loudly as I sat up, making me sigh in relief and finally catch Hidan and Kakuzu's attention. "Did I over sleep?"
"Not really. Do what you need to then we'll go out and hunt." I was confused with what Kakuzu was talking about until I relized just how badly I needed to go to the bathroom. My face flushed slightly and I looked around the cave. "There's a small branch off in the back. If Hidan tries to peep I'll remove his eyes."
"Hey! I'm not some fucking pervert!" I quickly scurried to my feet, my body still aching from sore muscles, and went to the back of the cave as they started to fight. A bit comforted by the fact they were being too loud to hear me I quickly did my buisness and walked back out. They continued to argue as I rolled up the mat Kakuzu had lent me, strapping it onto a bag that had been left near it. This must be mine... Why didn't they just give it to me yesterday? Maybe we're supposed to take turns carrying it. I'll make sure to ask later. Looking around I noticed that everything else had already been picked up.
Walking over I looked between the still bickering men. "Um... Kakuzu... excuse me." He shot me an annoyed glance and I frowned slightly. Why does he have to be scarier without his mask on? "I'm ready now."
"Alright, good." He pushed himself off the wall and walked out of the cave, Hidan and I following behind him. He pulled on his mask as we walked down to the woods. I let out a deep sigh as we walked and rubbed at my face, trying to wake myself up more. I wobbled slightly and was a bit supprised to actually feel Hidan reach out and steady me.
"Sorry about that, thank you."
"For what? Not letting you fucking die?"
"Um... yeah." I glanced back at him and quickly turned my head back when I saw him staring at me. Heat rushed to my face so I snapped up the collar of my cloak to hide it. "Thanks..."
"Sure... whatever." His voice wasn't harsh and it was almost as supprising as him staring. Kakuzu made an annoyed grunt and I hurried my pace, trying to be more careful. As we reached the bottom Kakuzu headed into the woods and I followed behind fairly closely.
"Try to keep quiet, I don't want either of you scaring off the animals." I could tell Kakuzu meant it as a threat and I ducked my head, too unnerved by him to respond. I tried my best to keep quiet as I walked along behind him. It didn't help my nerves any that I could almost feel Hidan's eyes on my back. Jesus christ, did I piss him off earlier? Does he want to kill me now? Did Pein send me out here with them so they could kill me!? No, no... I don't think he'd waste a uniform on me if that was the case... God this is so stressful. Taking some deep, silent, breaths I quickly calmed my nerves and racing mind, opting to just not think in this awkward silence.
It felt like ages until Kakuzu finally stopped near what sounded like a river and my stomach felt so empty I thought I was going to pass out. Just ahead of us I could see a small group of bunnies grazing and the emptiness turned to uneasyness. Does he expect me to kill one of them? I swallowed a lump in my throat as Kakuzu circled around the unexpecting animals. I couldn't do anything as I watched him pull out three kunai and in a unbelievably fast motion he threw them. I let out a small cry when I heard the dull thuds of them hitting their targets. My nails dug into my palms as I tried to push the emotions back down my throat. I knew we weren't just killing the rabbits for fun but somehow I still felt sick to my stomach as I walked over with Hidan to the rabbits corpses.
As I watched the animals I was happy to see that they had died quickly, I wasn't sure what I would do if they had been forced to suffer. Wiping at my face I took a deep breath and stiffened my body and jaw, staring as I watched Kakuzu begin to tie thin rope to their legs and thread the rope through a loop on his bag. This didn't seem a lot like a hunting leason... Just don't say anything. I don't think I can deal with another little animal dying right now. Just be glad you'll have something to eat later. Taking a deep breath I begain to follow the men as they walked off, neither of them seeming to care that the rabbits had died. I wonder if I'll even get as used to it as they are. If I can't even kill an animal how will I kill another human being?
Fear began to ebb its' way back into my mind as I walked behind them. Soon I noticed that my pace had slowed down and I was nearly 20 feet behind them. I maintained my distance from them we walked, only getting a few sparce glances from Hidan to make sure I hadn't gotten lost. I was glad that they gave me my space as I tried to push all my emotions back into control.
I drifted in and out of my thoughts as we walked, keeping a small eye on not losing sight of Hidan's cloak. The sun shone down though the thick trees, warming up the air to a comfortable temperature. Every now and then I would spot patches of bright colors and notice plants I had never seen before. I can't really remember... other than the little gardens inside are there really any colorful plants near the base? As much as I can remember there's only green and grey. That in mind... these cloaks aren't really the best color choices. Looking up again I could easily spot the vibrant red of Hidan's cloak ahead of me. Letting out a deep sigh I picked up my pace so I was no longer walking far behind them.
"It's almost noon. We're going to stop here for a while and eat. Once we're done we'll head over to the bounty office and I'll get my next mission." Even though he didn't turn around I knew Kakuzu was talking to me. He stopped and looked around before turning towards me. "Turn around." I only hesitated for a second before turning around. I could feel him dig around in my bag before closing it back up and starting to mess around with something on the ground. Turning back around I saw him starting to make a small fire.
"How long will we be here?"
"About an hour so go ahead and entertain yourself until the food is cooked." I nodded and looked around before walking over to a nearby tree and setting down all my things in a nice pile. Once I was done I walked out into the woods and started looking for some pretty rocks to bring back to Cass. I still wasn't sure why she liked them so much but she did like them and I was sure she'd be happy to have some new ones.
"What you doing?" I jumped, not knowing Hidan had followed me. He chuckled slightly at my reaction and I shot him a dirty look. "You know you look suspicious when you're always so fucking jumpy."
"Well maybe I wouldn't be so jumpy if you didn't sneek up on me." I grumbled slightly and went back to look at the rocks in my hand, taking one and wiping if off on my pants, cleaning off some of the dirt. I slipped it into my pocket, a little annoyed that Hidan was still staring at me. "What?"
"You didn't answer my question." My brow furrowed as he snatched one of the rocks from my hand and inspected it. "Why do you have so many rocks?"
"I'm getting some for Cass."
"That's a pretty shitty hobby. What does the Whore want with rocks anyway?"
My frown increased and I snatched the rock back. "No one asked your opinion." Suprise spread across Hidan's face as I shoved the rest of my rocks into my pockets. "And her name is Cass, you don't need to be an asshole." His suprise increased as I turned and headed back to where Kakuzu was cooking the rabbit. "How much longer until we eat?"
"It will be done when it's done. If you want some bread or jerky then I still have some in my bag."
"No, I'll wait." I sat against the tree where I set my stuff and started to pull the rocks out of my pocket and cleaning them with some water and the corner of my cloak. Soon all of the rocks were clean and I had finished picking though the ones that weren't as great as I had thought. I kept ignoring Hidan as he watched me from by the fire. God how annoying. Why can't he just stop, doesn't he know it comes off as creepy? Letting out a deep sigh I shoved the cleaned rocks into my pants pocket. My stomach growled loudly from the smell of cooking rabbit, making me groan quietly.
I pulled my bag infront of me and opened it up, starting to shuffle through what was inside, hoping maybe I could find something to entertain me for a little bit. God there is like litterally nothing in here. How boring. My fingers brushed something smooth, like paper, and I pulled out the envelope that Pein had given me the other day. Looking it over I didn't really find anything special about it, just a plain old envelope that important documents would be in with the mail. Turning it over I pulled up the metal tabs and open it, taking the papers out so I could read them over. I guess it's better than nothing.
A branch cracked behind me and I tensed, looking up I saw both Hidan and Kakuzu looking past me with looks of suprise and maybe a little panic. As my palms started to sweat I slowly put the papers away and moved my bag onto my back before even looking around the tree. My jaw dropped and I started to slowly back my way over to the fire until Hidan was in front of me. There, not even ten feet from where I had been sitting, was a large black bear.
